I’m in Suz’ country tonight… about 20-30 miles north of her location at Manzanita. Suz, if you are around, maybe my SO and I can get down to your location, have coffee!
Security guards for Alaska senate candidate Joe Miller handcuffed and detained the editor of the online magazine “Alaska Dispatch” on Sunday while he tried to interview the Republican nominee, according to multiple reports.
We are trying to figure out where to move. Portland has been a contender. Costa Rica is, too, because it is beautiful and cheap. We need cheap. But we don’t speak Spanish so we would have to learn. But tonight I just plan ole don’t want to move.
If my security acting as my agents breaks the law I get charged and or am liable right? What charges does the security guy face if joe Miller claims he did not give the order?
The security guard dudes said the reporter was stalking Joe Miller. Republican candidates are such wimps. “He asking me questions again. wawawawaaaa. Help Mommie.I can’t take another question that I can’t answer.”
A blogger asking questions is not a crazed fan of some movie star politicians are public figures and we the public expect them to be asked questions. If Joe can’t handle a blogger how can he handle Washington?
I have been researching neighborhoods and came to the conclusion that we cannot afford to live where it is half way nice. I don’t have to have fancy but just cannot do the beige carpeted apartment with a 1970′s kitchen. I must have seen dozens of those places for rent in Portland, all in the same area.
Tom Jones, what next, Cher and Gypsies, Pants N Thieves?
Sigh . . . victims of pop music . . .
I got some pop music to toss atcha’s all only none of you have likely ever heard of it, and I bet no one can identify left to right who these Eagles are, despite being The Eagles.
Rents are coming down everywhere. I have looked in the Bay Area and they are dropping significantly. Of course, not in Berkeley or SF yet. Marin has come down some. Sonoma county is a lot cheaper. Sacramento cheaper. People who are losing their homes are not renting but going to family or doubling up.
That’s true. It’s just a frustrating situation on all levels. I spent half a day in a bank (people sit on folding chairs until their number comes up) to deposit money. The roads are terribly bumpy, and I remember feeling like I was in a live video game driving at night avoiding the huge pits!
You’d need to really slow down. Everything takes a long time. Everything. But it’s a trade off. It is certainly beautiful and peaceful. Paradisey.
Read that blog. Jack is pretty good but has his Achilles heel. The water situation…paying a billion dollars to fix a problem non-existent is criminal, IMO. Jack seems to have written it off.
Hopfinger was reportedly pressing Miller on whether the candidate had ever been reprimanded for politicking while working at the Fairbanks North Star Borough in 2008. Alaska Dispatch and other media have sued for the release for records related Miller’s time at the borough. Various accounts of what happened next generally agree on this course of events:
Totally! Strange because my daughters are both adopted. Jossie is Italian/Irish, and Chryssa is full German. The boys look like my girls. Sam is dark complected and large, really sweet and funloving. Dan is blonde, a Brit, and more reserved but very pleasant. The girls hadn’t met each other’s boyfriends either. It was a wonderful day. My brothers, parents, aunts and uncles etc. were here too.
Private security arrests you isn’t that impersonating a police officer? Unless the security is off duty police but then arresting someone at a public event on public ground for asking someone who wants to be a Public Official questions seems like something the off duty police would get in trouble for.
I am originally an Oregonian, but now I claim French Nationality as I live in French Polynesia. I would like everyone to know that the French Medical Establishment is second to none even in the territories. I returned home after colon cancer surgery and 2 days after my arrival at home, I was provided with a primary health care provider, and full covered disability insurance that covers all my meds, treatments, transportation, and other expenses in relation to my treatment and this is for the remainder of my life. I became a French National in 1984 after being fully retired from the United States Navy. Of all the places I have ever lived, this has to be the finest. The people are superb, the government is very open and works with each and every one of us wether we are immigrants or native born. There is no sign of racism or bigotry or any of the things that go on in the USA today. I doubt that I will ever return again to the United States, and will miss a lot of things that Oregon has to offer, That doesn’t include the weather, Jeezbus Phreaques, or the quality of education in the state today. There are those whom I still love and respect, but most are long gone from this life and the state itself. Perhaps when the Country of Jefferson is formed and they rid themselves of all the bigotry, hypocrisy, and double dealing that I see going on there, I might just return for a visit…
I’ve lived all over Portland since 1964. There are some decent neighborhoods, but hard to find at decent prices. I don’t know what Teddy I know that Goose Hollow has found, but Goose Hollow, where he settled, isn’t exactly cheap!
I cannot control thisall ovedr laptop! It’s fucking
See what I mean? I spent 5 minutes typing and correcting this stupid paragraph!
yeppers, that’s what i love about this place, oldies i love, oldies i hate, wonderful stuff i haven’t come across before, lots of music here. And of course, kinda like football, trash talk is fun.
I did my twilight cruise at Pearl Harbor, and back from 1970 to the middle of 76 I was a DJ at KCCN…
Came down here on a business trip, met and married my wife and have been here ever since. I love Hawaii and will love the people and the music and culture for the rest of my life.
I live on Raiatea the original Hawaii and to me this is really the kick back place of the universe
no, but wait til the daily meeting tomorrow! heh. And i’ll be ignored, my supervisor is the major Green Bay fan. The rest of the team will give him grief.
Mary, I have to tell you that, as someone who “retired” to an English-speaking part of the US, for me there have been issues other than cost. [And the costs here in Maui are horrendous, as is the [non]-availability of decent medical care.]
Despite having visited Hawaii for over 25 years, moving here has been a nightmare. The lack of intellectual stimulation, the unavailability of people with whom to have a conversation or form a friendship, the lousy libraries, the rotten schools [both of which contribute to the low level of intellectual ability here] –> you can only go to the beach and/or watch sunsets so much of the time. And the lack of intelligent human contact is really killing.
I just advise, based on my own sad experience, that you spend some time thinking about what you do day-to-day in your current life, and figure out if that’s available where you’re thinking of moving.
Do you go to bookstores? [Are there any bookstores AT ALL, and, are they less than an hour's drive away?]
Do you go to concerts? [Is there entertainment provided by anything other than the same, boring "local" talent?]
Do you go to lunch or coffee with friends? [Are there candidates for folks who might become your friends?]
Do you volunteer? [Are there organizations who would welcome you as a volunteer, or are they prejudiced against "outsiders"?]
It’s very tempting to think that you could be happy walking on the beach and gazing at sunsets, but from by own experience, that’s not enough.
BTW, there are several books out about moving to foreign countries — going through each one and describing the pros and cons. Check your library — if you have one that hasn’t been closed by budget cut-backs — or your bookstore — if you have one less than an hour away.
LooHoo, Which Islands might you be interested in visiting? I can and will put you in touch with various local hotels/bed and bfasts, etc to make your vacation a whole lot more exciting and fun if you might be interested. I do not make a dime off of any place I recommend, they for the most part are friends and this is my country of which I am very proud and would be honored to provide information about our little corner of paradise…

SE Portland around 37 th I don’t know about volunteer organizations and local Oregon politics now. But there are some firepups in the area who could help you with that.
I used to live in Sonoma. I loved it. I have a ton of friends there still. Maybe we could go back there. But it is so expensive. When I lived there I had a fairly large income. Not now though.
Sacramento is nice I just don’t live in a neighborhood where I have much in common with folks. Since we have to move perhaps we will just go into midtown in Sac. Fortunately, we have two or three months to figure it out.
No we’re due south of Hawaii the same distance south of the equator that Hawaii is north… Although our northern islands the Marquesa’s are almost on the equator and to the north east of the Society islands.. We have the same time zone as Hawaii and the Hawaiian People are originally from Raiatea (the isle I live on) although the dialects are different…
Thanks. I won’t be going anyplace for a while, just got back from vacation. If you have some links handy, I’ll bookmark them, but please don’t go to any trouble.
Mauimom: “day 5 with no adult contact” we are hear for ya!
In today’s book salon I offered to help the guy who was the author. If he can convince his publisher I will be a help not a problem that is. He is new to this stuff. I know book PR people and they love it if the author has help.
Most have 39 clients and no time.

Can private security do that if I hire guards can they handcuff anyone?
Hi mary, ctuttle and everybody. I’ve been to Costa Rica a couple of times. It’s just beautiful and the people are so nice.
Aloha, Margot…! How are ya this fine evening…?
We are trying to figure out where to move. Portland has been a contender. Costa Rica is, too, because it is beautiful and cheap. We need cheap. But we don’t speak Spanish so we would have to learn. But tonight I just plan ole don’t want to move.
Very strange, isn’t it?
Hippo Birdies to ya, M’dear…! ;-)
Poor infrastructure in Costa Rica. Ours is crumbling, the theirs just doesn’t exist outside of major cities.

Thank you! I got to meet both daughters boyfriends for the first time today!
Belize next to Costa Rica they speak English and are part of the British Commonwealth so America doesn’t bother creating coups.
Yea, that is what all of the expat sites say. Rotten roads. But the health care is really good. I can get insurance for $60 a month.
*heh* Us old farts get set in our ways…! ;-)
Careful about Portland, Mary. Bad stuff about city council going on.

YVT posting there.
Strange I was wondering how long you have to hold a person against their will for it to be kidnapping?
Well…? Do you approve…? ;-)
Hawthorn district SE Portland around 37 street the old hippie district has character but is expensive and going yuppie still good food good bars.
Momentary restraint is sufficient in most cases, TCU…!
Then why are we not hearing Joe Miller is in jail?
Further out in Se, better prices but degenerating crime rates.
Damn! My laptop sucks!
Because it’s Alaska, and the State Troopers already walk a political tightrope…! ;-)
The security guard dudes said the reporter was stalking Joe Miller. Republican candidates are such wimps. “He asking me questions again. wawawawaaaa. Help Mommie.I can’t take another question that I can’t answer.”

Maybe the bad economy might bring down real estate prices a bit I be SE had a bunch of homes that were flipped and now are in foreclosure.
I wonder just what question Joe Miller was to afraid of to answer?
