I also wanted to work in a comparison of Beck to the Hutu radio broadcasters who told their listeners who to kill, but couldn’t quite pull it off.

But much as I support it (encouraging advertisers to take their money elsewhere), is it really having any effect? I read somewhere (maybe another thread here) that 296 of Beck’s sponsors have pulled out, but he is still polluting the airwaves. Rupert has very deep pockets. I suspect if he had NO sponsors running commercials, he’d still be ranting in his time slot.

That’s actually Pike’s point. Yes, advertisers have pulled their ads from Beck’s show, but they’re still advertising on *Fox*. So Murdoch just has to carry one hour of revenue-dead air.

He might be willing to carry 24 hours of revenue-dead air to keep Beck’s hate flowing, but we won’t know until he has to make that choice.

The world has gone crazy, I guess. Who is it listening to Beck? I think much the same of Laura Ingraham as she promotes–with scorn and ridicule–her Obama diaries with real hits at Michele. I am not suggesting anyone has to support a Dem or the Pres….but the tone and cruelty are not acceptable.

In Glenn Beck’s world, the Chamber of Commerce deserves our gratitude, support and even $$$, while the Tides Foundation deserves terror, destruction and death.

Yes tax cuts for the rich so help small business as big business uses the tax cut profits to move jobs to China and undercut small business costs.

There really is no collective voice that is defining them as what they are; Uncivilized and unfit to be included within a civilized society. They should be shunned. The Becks and Gingrich etc. The latest for me is I am appalled once more; this time by the GOP female candidates and their filthy sexist attacks on male Democratic candidates.

I am uncertain what voices can be most effective. It is not likely productive for the Democratic Party to take lead as it might just inflame the politicization more. If there was any spirit left in the women’s groups they could be effective. Where are the voices of the churches?

So many of us have really been so beaten down and intimidated I don’t know what it will take.

But this is not about politics. It is really a primitive assault on our very civilization.

I cannot stomach watching Fox to see who advertises. It would be a great service if someone could list the companies that do advertise. I would be glad to write those companies and let them know that I will not do business with them as long as they continue to support Fox. I have a feeling that there are lots that would join in that kind of boycott.

I agree that we need to be strong in our convictions and refusal to be intimidated. But in my opinion to take up their tactics is to surrender. And I agree we all should in our various ways oppose their behavior but make our case by not behaving as they do. This really can’t succeed as long as the conflict is presented as it is in the media, today as just differences of opinion among roughly equal points of view.

I recently did a very unscientific survey of the public Facebook pages of 80 high school classmates from my suburban Dallas graduating class of 1983. Fully 40% of them were blatant supporters of Beck, Palin, Hannity, O’Reilly, Dubya, and the rest, and the most fervently right-wing were the kinds of high school jocks who were notorious for beating up people for fun on the weekends during high school and now bragged about their gun ownership.

Awesome. My girlfriend and I have kind of a soft spot for that song.

I can’t believe who from my school became teabaggers/Beck fans. Not just obvious bullies, but gentle sweet people too. It’s bizarre, I don’t know how they can reconcile that kind of hate and cruelty.
