At the end of a rocky week, newly chosen Senate nominee Rand Paul (R-KY) has canceled a planned interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” citing exhaustion. It’s only the third cancellation from a major guest in 62 years, the show’s Executive Producer Betsy Fischer said in an interview this afternoon.
When he says something, you know he means it.
Republican U.S. Senate nominee Rand Paul claims in a new TV ad that he does not support higher deductibles for Medicare and that his Democratic rival, Jack Conway, is “deliberately distorting” his views on the issue.
But Conway has released a video that shows Paul repeatedly suggesting that there should be a $2,000 deductible for Medicare patients.
He’s for limited government, period.
“Do you think there ought to be a law against having, using the prerogatives of your position and your power, of your job, to have relations with an intern? I think that’s disgusting.”

As a native of Kentucky living away, there are a lot of people who refuse to accept Rand Paul as a Kentuckian.
As witness some of his various foot in mouth actions in discussing things about the state and not knowing what he was talking about when he made the statements.
Frankly, it wouldn’t hurt to have someone pushing to dismantle the Fed in Congress.
As for the rest of his ideas, there’s Somalia, or, for that matter the US within a few years, as the Administration is pursuing Rand’s dream of an unregulated privatized utopia, without being as frank as Rand.
Nah, Bunning couldn’t hit the hustings when he last ran for re-election in ’04 so doubtful he would try it for another person.

Fair enough, the constructive part was supposed to be what I posted before, when I suggested that stories like this are pointless and fdl should stop running them. To me that would make fdl a better site, so to me it was constructive.

BT’s post (as a lot of them are wont to do) points out the hypocrisy of a politician running for national office. IMHO if our media did MORE of that we wouldn’t have half the assholes we’ve been stuck with in national office over the years.
The more people find out that someone running for political office is a lying hypocrit, the better. Therefore, BT is doing a service. One for which I and many other are grateful. That he does it with a bit of snark just makes it that much better IMO.
My problem with BT is that he’s pointing out the hypocrisy of the R’s, more so than that of the D’s. He is in effect shielding and making light of the hypocrisy of the Dems.
Well certainly it is good to point out that politicians are hypocrites, on that much we agree. But (a) everyone here already knows that, (b) it doesn’t take an endless cavalcade of posts like this to say that politicians are hypocrites, and (c) why is it that every time I see a post from Blue Texan he is going after a republican? It comes off as incredibly partisan and… well I can’t think of a better description than two minutes hate. Everyone starts high-fiving one another and telling one another how awful republicans are… it’s like an echo chamber and I think it is bad for the site, as must be clear by now. My $0.02.

Nobody said that “no one ever criticizes Democrats” on this site. The closest anyone came to saying something like that was saying that Blue Texan–one writer–mostly goes after Republicans. For what it’s worth, for me the primary draw to this site is Ms. Hamsher, and that has a lot to do with her beautiful absence of partisanship. I can’t imagine her doing what Blue Texan does, can you?

Speaking stictly & only for myself, I welcome most of BT’s posts with open arms because I am dead sick & tired of the corporate-owned rightwing media either giving Republicans/Tea Partiers/Libertarians of Rand’s ilk a complete pass & never really questioning such “politicians” in any kind of serious way; never really holding their feet to the fire; and furthermore, treating them as if their outlandish & frankly outrageous “positions” were “normal.”
“Politicians” like Rand Paul, Sarah Palin, Sharron Angle, Trent Lott, and so on, having been “made up” and bankrolled by Karl Rove & his merry henchmen, doing Lee Atwater’s “Southern Strategy” on steriods and bankrolled by tax cheats like the Koch brothers.
Yet the so-called “mainstream” media – even more laughably called the “liberal” media – treats these charlatans & clowns “seriously,” as if their ever-changing “positions” and their ridiculous antics and paucity of intellect are “serious positions” to have. These rightwingers are never held accountable, never called on their lies and b.s., never treated as the ridiculous intellectual cretins that most of them are.
So, for me, BT can just “bring it on.” It’s one of the few places around, that I’m aware of, that actually calls these charlatans on their stuff, points out the unending mendacity and hypocrisy, and their utter moral bankruptcy and intellectual paucity.

Rand Paul forced a group of NKU Theater students who were preparing for a performance into the hallway in their underwear so he could could have the room for his privacy before the debate !
Teachers/Staff & Student Performers were totally stunned, teachers protested to no avail. It turns out that it was a booking error by the university BUT the insensitive way the students were forced into the hallway goes way beyond reason. The reason given that the kids were so forcibly kicked into the hallway was so that Rand Paul’s catering staff could have time to prepare his meal !
Apparently the teachers did all they could BUT the Paul staff was unreasonable.
