From the President’s remarks in Madison, Wisconsin.
“We have made progress over the last 20 months. And that is the progress that you worked so hard for in 2008. Now, we didn’t get everything done. Sometimes people say, well, you know, this item is not done and that idea — well, I’ve only been here two years, guys. If you look at the checklist, we’ve already covered about 70 percent, so I figured I needed to have something to do for the next couple of years.”
Anyone else buying the 70% number?

About Firedoglake
O did 70% of what he could do.
The rest is too hard.
What are they thinking? Not snark, actual question. What are they thinking?
70%, 17%, whatever.
The desperation among congressional candidates for open seats is palpable.
I’ve gotten a half dozen fundraising calls in the last few days and you can smell the panic.
Does he count covering up murders at Gitmo in the 70% of things he accomplished?
In the words of the father of one of the victims:
And the punk is hectoring us to continue licking his boots?
Impeachment could be a very good thing. Buck Up Biden can follow it up with a new 9/11 investigation.
No.
Godo morning BT and thanks for the post.
I’m not even buying the notion that the any of the “progress over the last 20 months” is in any practical, discernable way the “progress that (any of us) worked so hard for in 2008.”
“I needed to have something to do for the next couple of years.”
That’s what I say about not fixing the fence.
Isn’t he the President?
Geez, democracynow is criticizing inviting the enemy to peace talks in Afghanistan, on the supposition that they are terrorists & warlords. On those criteria, the U.S. should be excluded also.
We need more 9-11 truther talk on FDL!
Mornin’, BT, pups
Sure am glad I don’t have teebee. I’m gonna be spared all the ads over the next 4 weeks.
My big question is while the Rethugs’ message is directed at the affluent and white voters are the Dems targeting the non-white and poor voters to any extent?
Show us your checklist, please.
If by that he means 70% geared for the wealthy, then it’s a low ball estimate but not unreasonable.
He really needs to have a “come to Jesus” moment and actually acknowledge and admit his shortcomings. I have to admit while Clinton was a total POS as President, when he was on the Daily Show a few weeks ago, he almost got me willing to vote for Democrats by acknowledging the shortcomings of the past two years. It wasn’t nearly the same way that Obama and others do it today, but seemed more down to earth and issue by issue. No sweeping pronouncement of “sure we didn’t get everything” and then move on to their criticism of the voters.
He needs to come clean and acknowledge what the hell he has (and hasn’t) done and how he is going to make it better. If he’d only do that.. but instead he stands on his ant hill of accomplishments as if he had changed the world in some fundamental way.
Sorry, still not buying it.
Oh, sure. Without question. Absolutely. Right on. You got it.
Is pres happy now?
And he lost their donations & votes anyhow. LOL on O.
first of all, he’s actually including his drug company back door deal, health care profit protection plan health bill as part of his check list
he’s actually including his gazillion dollar gifts to the banksters who stole from us in the first place as part of his check listro
that’s not all, here is something the most important thing nobody is mentioning
even if we take his rediculous “70%” figure as true, it does not give weight to each item and considers each item on their check list the same
for instance, if we want war crimes prosecuted we weight that in teh to 50 percent of importance, it would take half of everything else checked off to match that one that is not checked off
if we want all bail out funds to go into creating jobs and he gives jobs about 1/10th of the money and the rest to criminals, he does not get to check that off as one of his accomplishments
if we want a competitive health care bill and his bill impedes competition he does not get to check that off either
he is pulling bush/cheney/rove type of numbers game
remember reagan claimed he “lowered taxes” because the top 1 percent enjoyed a tax reduction?
this at the expense of everyone else paying more in taxes and having programs we already payed for removed
yet he actually said he “lowered taxes” and that’s the type of number game obama is trying to get away with
Yes, but they are OUR terrorists and worlords since they’re on the CIA payroll.
Dear PO
Where was the emotion and drives you exhibited at Wisconsin where you were going about you duties fro the last 22 months?
You can get passionate about an election; Governing? Not so much.
We got it. The position is important to you, as is meaningless check marks on some unpublished, imaginary checklist. Nothing else of substance matters.
“Vote for me, because the others are worse” Oh really? We cannot perceive the difference between you and the others. Perhaps you need different paymasters?
tee hee
I can imagine how well “peace talks” would go if nobody in the talks were your enemies
how obsurd
Yep but that didn’t make him stop trying by selling the rest of us out. SWome would call him tenacious, some would call him stubborn, I call him self centered and corrupt.
Michael J Smith at stopmebeforeivoteagain.org calls Obama Obie, and somehow it sounds just right.
I wonder how peace talks would go in Israel would go without their enemies at the table
I think everyone would be in agreement though and I guess that can’t be so bad
how about ob0?
The new American Exceptionalism. By O (R):
Exceptions from the rule of law, binding treaty obligations, rules that govern other nations, and from its citizens welfare.
It’s the bind you get yourself into when you demonize the enemy and aver that you know better than anyone else what another country should be because you are morally superior. Esp when you’re not morally superior.
http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/socdemo/voting/index.html
Do your research.
Which is kinda why the Israel-Palestinian situation is still what it is. By labeling the Palestinian leadership, that was duly elected by the people btw, as “terrorists” and refusing to talk to them and by allowing our “friends” the Israelis to unilaterally break agreement after agreement, it’s no wonder Arabs in the middle east hate us. It has nothing to do with our “freedom” and everything to do with our hypocrisy and war mongering.
Obama’s remarks are really funny. I think he’s laying out the ground work for his next career, stand up comedian.
Yeah, I want to see his “checklist” too, and compare it to his campaign promises. I never heard from Obama or OFA until the other day, when I got an OFA email over his signature. Imagine if he’d have been sending those regularly to his base while Max Baucus/Liz Fowler were destroying the public option and single-payer. Or if he’d have been sending them explaining how republican opposition was making it difficult shut down GITMO.
Instead I get an email urging me to vote, so we can have a congress that continues to build their resumes as future K-streeters and ensure continuity of his do-nothing administration.
Obama’s use of the “bully pulpit” has been to jerk off the American public into thinking he’s some kind of Democratic hero while he’s selling us all down the river and telling us to shut the fuck up about it.
I take a moral stand against their kind of morality
there, I said it
Of course we are morally superior. Ask anyone with a Medical Bankruptcy or whose job was outsourced to China, or who had their home lost to foreclosure.
I try to avoid moral stands as much as possible.
People were promised a loaf of bread and are now being told that a handful of croutons should be enough to satisfy them.
Well, ya know, if they only worked hard enough, they would have made it to the top 1% wealthiest in the U.S. Everybody can do that.
Anyone else buying the 70% number?
Since that 70% including an on-the-ground repeal of Roe v. Wade for all women who don’t have at least $1000 lying around and I have yet to hear the President explain his actions as anything else, he’ll have to go on without me. No whining. Just …no.
Not interested in registration numbers. Teebee ads aren’t the only thing going. I want to know if the unemployed, underemployed, and working class voters of all stripes are being targeted by mailers, town hall meetings etc.
the great thing about croutons, you use stale bread to make them.
that’s what we were given, stale bread
Only in Obama’s America could we have the scenario Rachel Maddow put out there the other day: A Chinese executive riding across China in a comfortable car on a high-speed rail train to an American factory, reading in the International Edition of the Washington Post on his iPad about how North Dakota was having to unpave roads because they couldn’t raise enough tax money for maintenance.
Thanks for that, Barry.
you know, I remember during the first two or three weeks of the 0′s presidency I predicted a huge loss if thinks furthering bush’s bailout for banksters was an economic stimulous
everyone LAUGHED and LAUGHED and laughed
I do not want this man in office, I want a republican doing these things so we can mount an oposition, hard to opose the captain of a team you thought you were on, you either support him or leave the team, which is what he’s forced too many of us to do
I actually got a “job Offer” from somebody in China yesterday who advertised for an “administrative assistant” but it turns out that they want me to launder money. They want me to collect money from their “customers and clients” and cash the checks and money orders and then turn them into Western Union moneygrams and send them to China. The compensation? Just some vague promise of between $500 – $2,000 per month and when I say vague promise, I mean it was sort of not even that, just their guess at what I might make. These kind of ads should be illegal. People like this advertise them as real jobs but they are not and turn out to be nothing more than a waste of my time and effort. Same with schools. I can’t tell you how many times after filling out an online “application” some school or another calls me and thanks me for my interest in continuing my education and for the low, low price of $_____, I can enroll today.
I think that the understanding between Obama and the Wall Street/K Street crowd was laid out well before the November 2008 election: “If you fund my campaign and if I’m successful, my administration will betray its base to such an extent that they’ll never be a problem again.”
Not this unemployed person.
President Obama says he keeps the “70% list” in his pocket. Rolling Stone failed to ask, but I am hoping one reporter will ask him to show the list.
Wishful thinking, I know.
well, like I keep saying, we’re not really “the base”, we happen to be the majority of the party AND the majority of americans
that point elludes the president, they are trying to make progressives the lepers just like they made liberals the lepers
rolling stone is usually pretty good, I am surprised they didn’t ask to see this “list” and challenge what he checked off
Looks like he succeeded in that.
Thanks. At least you understood what I was talking about.
Not a bit of it!
He can practice his one-liners on his soulmates from BushCo while sitting in the dock at The Hague.
I hope jane starts pointing out that the people referred to as “the base” in the democratic party are the majority of the democratic constituents
I really hope they stop using that term “the base” to describe us, they need to start using the term “the majority” of the party
“While Clinton was a total POS as President.”
I keep forgetting: no one hates Democrats more than progressives do.
Actually, Clinton has a long list of accomplishments which would please any progressive. The poverty rate went down, for example. Obama’s not going to match that one.
There are a few who carry huge chips on their shoulders for varying reasons. Usually gets in the way of seeing things clearly.
The cool news for today, (actually it was yesterday but it’s official today), the discovery of Gliese 581g means that for the first time we know of a planet with roughly the same surface gravity of Earth, in a stable orbit smack in the middle of the habitable zone around it’s parent star. It was discovered using the radial velocity method so details on it’s composition are unknown right now but it’s mass would indicate a rocky world like ours. Also since the otherwise useless Democrats managed to pass SB 3729 without changes, it will almost certainly mean that the James Webb space telescope will go forward. In a few years we could be seeing images of the first Earth like world outside our solar system. What an exciting field that would be to be in.
No doubt about it, We on the left have made an air-tight case that President Obama hasn’t delivered on Candidate Obama’s campaign promises.
But, I say, whose interests does it serve to just snipe the guy for the next 33 days?
For us to go negative – no matter how ‘right’ we are – and not offer an actionable alternative vision, imvho, is to simply court disaster.
Let’s hope it never happens, but in the event of another Terrorist attack, imvho, we’re exposed to getting lumped-in with the attackers…
Without a vision of a better America, and an articulated path for getting there, we’ll be perceived by many, if not most, as acting in pure ‘bad faith.’
Well, other than “teebee” is WAS English…. :)
Good morning, pups. I was offline much of yesterday so just getting caught up (retirement leisure? whazzat?). Peter Daou has a “sequel” to his post about Obama and liberal bloggers that made such a stir earlier:
Liberal bloggers are bringing down Obama, part II: It’s NOT the economy, stupid, it’s Obama’s character
I heard something about that. Really cool. I’ve got Hawking’s new book but haven’t started it yet.
I don’t even think it has to asked in a hostile way. Let’s look over the list, evidently the President still has it, and go over it point by point.
My Spidey sense tells me he has no such list, but it could have also been an invitation; President Obama probably wanted to show the list and RS failed to take the bait. In either case, let’s hope someone asks him to show the list and Obama allows the list to be posted so we all can read it.
Then we’ll know what universe our fearless leader is living in.
Uh no, PolitiFact has him at 24.4%
Mornin’ All
My first impression also and it is the kind of doublespeak that let’s me understand that he can stand there, say this stuff and tell himself with certainty that he is not a liar.
Like that’s going to happen.
Or they could have bought more lottery tickets and gotten there with a little less effort.
The meme that everyone wants to be a richtard is pretty funny.
Clinton’s disastrous economic policies, like NAFTA & repeal of Glass-Steagall, did not explode the economy until after he left office.
There are even bigger implications now. With the discovery of Gliese 581 g and Gliese 581 f, that brings the total in that system up to six known planets. This and the fact that we are now up to 492 extra solar planets indicates that planetary systems are very common around main sequence stars. If that’s the case, then the estimated number of planets in the universe being greater than the number of grains of sand on the Earth is too low.
Don’t forget his impact on deregulating the media. He was a disaster and along with Reagan the primary reason the U.S. is where it is today, in the toilet.
The Third Reich was supposed to last a millenium, but it didn’t last 10 years. The clowns in charge then wound up in the dock at Nuremberg.
Stranger things have happened.
Yeah, love NAFTA. WTO. His selling the US down the river with globalization. Yeah, he did a great job.
I’m sure exploration/investigation of this new planet will be put on the fast track to provide the masters of the universe with a way out when mother earth turns with a vengeance on the parasites that inhabit her.
At 20 light years away, I don’t think colonization is going to be an option until we learn how to bend some rules of physics.
There you go again with your librul biased facts.
And, the politicians have the nerve to call getting the trains to travel at 90 mph “high speed rail” in North Carolina. seriously??
That’s on the fast track also.
hey! I was that naked lady trying to pull on her bathrobe as you pulled away from the stop sign this morning – sorry to have missed you
We know what the effects of NAFTA, WTO etc have been. The question is what can we do to reverse those effects. WTO, thanks primarily to the anti-capitalists, is in its death throes. What do we do about NAFTA et al?
Does anyone else make anything of the fact that Obama goes to what is probably the most liberal college town in America to get a crowd of young supporters to show up? You know, college students????? Who aren’t yet looking for jobs?????? Who aren’t supporting themselves?????? Who are relatively healthy????? Who are still on their parents’ insurance policies????? Who aren’t supporting a family or trying to keep a house?????
Hey, why not go to a REAL town and make speeches to real people who work or are looking for jobs?
Seriously dude, what’s up with that?
Are you serious?
Really are you serious?
Progressives and the left understood one simple truth the last 20 months it is the ECONOMY STUPID!!! OBAMA is the one that went off in LA LA Land
The one thing that made FDR a genius is he knew in a Depression, there is only one issue the Economy. FDR focuses on that issue and became the greatest USA president ever.
On the other hand you have Obama who has bail out Wall Street, sort to make Health Insurance Richer, by forcing all of us to buy their crappy product. Obama double down on the Bush wars, that are now his Wars. Obama plans to cut Social Security this winter. Obama has endorse the idea of spying on americans and killing americans.
Again I ask radiofreewill are you serious? You really want us to believe Obama gives a Dam! about Progressives.
Like Mrs. Huffington said it is time for all progressives to realize that Obama is not that into the Middle Class and Progressives, he like being a republican more.
Welcome to the Hope A Dope by Obama “radiofreewill”
70% ???? LOLOLOLOLOL
I suppose you could get to 70% as long as all you do is count up the “names” of the bills that were passed and don’t worry about the actual content of any of them.
I don’t believe it was the most liberal college town in the US. I believe that would be Berkley, CA.
The Third Reich punks wound up in the dock at Nuremberg because they lost their little war. In a war with a current rival, the U.S. will lose. Hence, seeing the punks-in-charge in a dock at The Hague is not such a far-fetched idea.
Hey! This is a nice family place.
Remember if we fire up the base and hold back the evil GOP horde, Obama will reward us with SS cuts and restrictions.
GOTV!!!
NAFTA? Build a wall with no gates on the US/Mexico border.
No drugs can come North, no Guns can go South.
That is a stretch, asserting that we could be lumped in with the Cheney mob.
hence the (fake) bathrobe reference :D
Uh no, PolitiFact has him at 24.4%….
That’s about 70% of the 33% that Obama did not negotiate away…
The 33% that is much less than half-a-loaf…The first 50% was given away to corporations before negotiations started, the next 16% was given to Rs for their support.
See? That was easy: 70% of what corporations & Rs wanted. You voters? Fucking Retards.
Well maybe but still I don’t think there is anything to worry about right now. Without a power source, any possible FTL scheme is still fantasy. Fusion isn’t self sustaining yet nor will it be enough energy when it is and so far we’ve managed to create enough anti matter to release about the same amount of energy found in a box of matches. I’m not going to lose any sleep over the fate of Gliese 581g.
Seriously, Obama is like a doll they wind up at election time, so he can say things like “I’m all fired up!”
If one thing has become clear it is that Obama is in office in order to make speeches, do photo ops, and very little else. He’s not “into” Progressives, working class people, or really much of anything else, except being the first (and probably last) black President.
Obama is a figurehead. Someone else is running this show, and it’s the poeple behind his election. My bet is on the Goldman banksters who are pulling Larry Summers strings.
Yep. See mine @ 12.
PolitiFact seemed a bit generous imo. It looked like they counting compromises as promises kept?
Probably right!
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 1,307
US KIA Irak: 4.424
Iraki and Afghan casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2010: 33,728 and counting

have NO morals. ( Visible that is )
There that clears it up a bit.
Don’t know how that will help the small farmers who were run off their farms so the jefes could bring in all that cheap GM corn.
I had this sinking feeling when I realized that if Barack Obama decides to turn into Ronald Reagan II, those of us standing on the square with the No More War signs are toast.
In the attempt to make sense of the raids on peace movement folks and seizure of their documents, I think Mr. President has poured blood in the water by criticizing the left and that the FBI sharks see that as a green light to harass those they have always seen as ‘traitors’.
Yeah, I’m serious – and I’m making a challenge to you, too.
I’m not saying that we should cow-tow to Obama.
I’m simply saying that not proposing a better way to go is purely destructive.
What should we do?
The article at sciencedaily is a good read. The planet is tidally-locked with its star, so the side of the planet that always faces the star is broiling, the other side of the planet is frozen; with a temperate strip in the twilight zone. I figure that would create some awesome gale force winds.
“If you look at the checklist…”
What checklist is that? In any case, it’s not my checklist. On my checklist, he’s failing badly. Ongoing wars, massive military spending, massive, increasing inequality, poverty out of control, gay rights, Social Security… fail, fail, fail, fail, fail, fail.
And if the GOP wins, they’ll do the same thing. What a Catch-22!
This is splitting off the peaceniks too. Taking sides in a civil war. Hmm.
Maybe Ann Arbor.
Don’t forget: Not experienced with the continual let-downs of life? Not really grown up enough yet (not saying youth is a bad thing. youth is good. I just wish youth wasn’t so exploited) to understand what it’s like to be the heel?
Did you forget your snark tag there?
“I keep in my pocket a checklist of the promises I made during the campaign…”
Maybe he should write it on his hand so the press can try to photograph it somehow. Show me the checklist!
Obama’s role is to convince the uninformed that baby step reforms, an erosion of civil liberties and a shredding of the last vestiges of the safety net are in the interests of working and middle class. With a dumbed down and naive electorate that is more knowledgeable of celebrity gossip than in power politics it’s really quite an easy job.
Reply to JoeFish @30
“Obama’s use of the “bully pulpit” has been to jerk off the American public into thinking he’s some kind of Democratic hero while he’s selling us all down the river and telling us to shut the fuck up about it.”
Great time to use the “bully pulpit,” to make an example out of Jim Demint, rather than jerking us around. Demint’s actions are over the top! No fair minded person can understand why Demint would protect BP?
I wonder if any parliamentarians in England provided cover for Standard Oil of New Jersey after SO of NJ, provided additives to the Nazi’s so the aviation fuel they derived from coal gasification, would provide the necessary potential energy for the Luftwaffe to conduct “The Blitz,” killing thousand of British civilians!
So Mr. President here is a clear example of how a corrupt foreign corporations is protected buy an elected member of the US Senate, to the detriment of the republic. I suppose the business interests of a foreign corporation, BP, trump the “general welfare,” of the republic?
Time for a little “Chutzpah” Mr President?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chutzpah
“In Hebrew, chutzpah is used indignantly, to describe someone who has over-stepped the boundaries of accepted behavior with no shame. “But in Yiddish, chutzpah has developed ambivalent and even positive connotations. Chutzpah can be used to express admiration for non-conformist but gutsy audacity.” Leo Rosten in The Joys of Yiddish defines chutzpah as “gall, brazen nerve, effrontery, incredible ‘guts,’ presumption plus arrogance such as no other word and no other language can do justice to.” In this sense, chutzpah expresses both strong disapproval and a grudging admiration….”
http://www.iahushua.com/WOI/us_nazis.htm
U.S. CORPORATIONS AND THE NAZIS Interesting reading in more ways than one!
Simply trying to connect some historical facts with the dots so Americans have a better understanding of what is really taking place in America today, some perspective!
“punk,” “impeachment!” Settle down there! Your sounding like a wingnut. Nonsensical is what your rant is. Grow up! Or are you…?
The only positive that I can imagine happening from the WI rally is that it may help Russ get enough votes to beat RoJo.
It’s probably tidally locked but as I said, since it was found by the radial velocity method, details aren’t available. Still it would create a wide range of environments around the terminator line.
Yes, I buy the 70 percent figure. 70 percent of nothing is still nothing.
With the official announcement, I expect more telescopes to be turned that way. Hopefully that will bring more information about the planet.
“We are starting to wonder whether Congressional Democrats lack the courage of their convictions, or simply lack convictions.”
“… permanently defined and enshrined the previously inchoate impressions of Obama as a man whose obsession with conciliation rendered him incapable of taking an unshakable stand in defense of his principles.’
Very good analysis. I started questioning the ‘courage of his convictions” after the FISA reversal and the evidence that he has none has just mounted since then.
Sooner or later every leader must draw the proverbial line in the sand and say, “this far and no further”. I’m still waiting.
They still won’t be able to directly image it. Maybe the James Webb telescope will be able to but that hasn’t been launched yet.
To be redundant: 70% of what? What list? 70% of sh*t is still sh*t, not shinola.
Agree with a much earlier post, if Obamaco could “come clean” about their glaringly poor performance and state with some confidence how they plan to effect “real” changes, I *might* be willing to listen.
Bashing me because I’m not adulating at Obama’s feet for giving away all of MY tax dollars to super wealthy banksters, Wall ST & the hedgefunders doesn’t cut the mustard. Still not buying what Barry’s trying to shill.
Yes, it’s childish of me but still I am frustrated by not having pretty pictures! I wanna see it now now now!!
Whatever became of the idea of building a space-based telescopic array? From what I recall, it would be an array of a couple hundred telescopes, arranged in an orbit around the sun, between Earth and Mars.
Such an array would be best able to image objects “above” and “below” the Solar System. The tilt of the Solar System in relation to the Milky Way is very fortuitous for such a ring array of telescopes.
Rats. Just got paged. Gotta run and fix somebody’s computer. Later all!
I say take the President at his word.
What he has done, he has meant to do.
Bad compromises on the stimulus -he meant to do that, means to do it more. Sold out the public option, and made bad compromises on single payer, the anti-trust exemption, effective cost controls and competition in HIR -he meant to do all that, and means to do more. GITMO -and the new place in Afghanistan -meant to -more to come
eroding civil liberties even more than Bush-like increasing spying on innocent americans as well as being judge jury and executioner to whoever he says -meant to -more to come, protecting BP -lowballing the flow rate from the beginning, restricting the access of journalists, saying it si all gone, restriction scientists from getting to the Gulf as well, -not to mention all the environmental shortfalls -more to come -meant to -punting on DADT, and think of how many times the Democrats have cut food stamps…etc etc etc
the basic signal is, I meant what I did, and I’m doing more!
Saw AxRod on LawDo (MSNBC) – pretty sad. Not as bad as that putz the runs the congress re-election or whatever, that guy totally sucks (like worse than a bad joke). That blond haired guy that looks like a younger LawDo.
Comcast is buying NBC, can’t wait for the new shows & QOS anti-netNeutral.
But the Elmer Fudd Theory of Electoral Victory will save everything!
Only a little OT.
I’m traveling and don’t have good Internet access, but I did see a NYT story about donations to Dems from Soros and others. Interested in”progressive results” are down.
So all that sucking up to the insurance companies and drug manufacturers may have had an opposite result?
Who could have predicted . . .
I hope Jane or someone will find time to do a story on this. It proves the point FDL has been making.
Clinton had the good fortune to live in the White House during the beginning of the era of the Internet. Obama, not so much. All the name-calling about Obama on FDL obscures one obvious fact. The consensus ideology of Washington DC, Obama’s ideology, neoliberalism, has been revealed in its full inappropriateness today as never before. Neoliberalism’s defenders no longer have “the economy” as an excuse.
Well, you know, 24.4% of a loaf is better than no loaf at all ;)
Thus this parlor game: getting all the Internet activists to admit that their tactics all end up in the on-all-fours posture, pleading before the Emperor while the Emperor’s handlers run the show.
You might as well just devote your time to your local Food Not Bombs. Do something real, rather than spend the day typing messages into your computer.
Any hopes of getting out to stay?
I clicked on LoDo, too, bc sadly in my neck of the woods his idiotic shill, uh, show is on at time when I’m most likely to watch tv (which is very little these days).
LoDo was interviewing the Ax-man. Like LoDo’s idiotic “interview” of Levi Johnston the night before (Levi Johnston? Like, why do I care about Levi???), I watched LoDo and the Ax for all of 30 seconds. The little I heard was more of the same bad excuses for why ORahma wasn’t “doing more” with LoDo fluffing the Ax.
I think I’d rather pound a spike thru my left eyeball than watch LoDo.
It seems as if the intention of LoDo’s show is to be the quasi-leftwing alternative to Fox & Friends. NO THANKS!!
But despair is so fun! Are you sure you want to ask this question here?
People lose the stupid when the money starts to run out.
I’m trying.
And I’m doing something real this November. Not voting, unless for a third party.
When they get tired of democracy, y’know, the Supreme Court annuls the results and Katherine Harris is rewarded with a seat on the CFR.
…and the portions are so small!
(rimshot)
There’s Barry wasting our time again with another base-berating speech … If the Administration was part of the real economy, they wouldn’t have time for this nonsense.
He has completed 70 % of all the things he’s wanted to do for his base ( the Big Corps. and their wealthy owners.) Yes, he’s 70% there and with our help ( not showing up to vote and encouraging others to do the same) in electing a GOP congress this fall, he’ll make the remaining 30% and then retire ( or be Impeached or both.) In any event he’s doing what he was hired to do and our voting him into office with a different list of things we all expected of him is, and has always been largely irrelevant to this man and his gang.
I’ve been associated with Food Not Bombs since 2003.
Things are great for the Corporatist elite and their employees.
Exactly! The beauty of it is that the cheering crowds don’t get it do they?
What did W. call them? The “have-mores”?
Now we just need everyone else here to join!
The main problem is that many cities, including St Petersburg and Orlando, have passed ordinances against feeding the homeless in public parks. It’s also difficult to obtain food discarded by supermarkets since they now would rather throw it away in dumpsters kept in enclosed spaces. We have had some success in getting smaller stores to give us food they would normally discard. Many cities in FL have waged what amounts to full fledged war against the homeless, driven mainly by small business owners in the downtown areas.
Unfortunately, he hasn’t done anything on my checklist. Since he’s trying to convince me to vote for Democrats, that’s something he might want to consider at some point.
:-) So, what he might really be saying is: I’ve done everything Corporate Organized Crime and our War Criminals wanted which is 70% of what was on my list. As for the 30% I promised you, well, no. As for what’ I’ll be doing the next two years, I’m waiting for the list from Corporate Organized Crime. You can send me a list of what I could do for the great majority of Americans. I’ll say I’ll do those then I’ll trade them away just like I did the previous two years.
That’s way, way, waaay low. In terms of fucking his supporters and betraying his campaign promises, it’s closer to 98%.
Ah yes, Florida. I’m amazed they haven’t illegalized picnics yet, since picnics would be covered by any ordinance against eating in public parks.
ha ha ha…ahhhh the all powerful Jane….once again Jane sees vitory in the defeat of the Democratic majority …..yeah Jane your the base alright.
How’s that Elmer Fudd Theory of Electoral Victory workin’ for ya?
I have looked at those lists that show campaign promises vs. those kept.
Somewhat misleading if you count every promise equal to every other promise. For example, a writer once claimed that Biden was pro-labor as one year he voted something like 6 out of 7 issues for the labor position. But the one law he voted for that year which labor opposed was “welform reform” which have a devestating effect on people compared to the laws labor wanted ratified. Same with NAFTA which Biden voted for.
Others on those lists mention promises, which to me, just furthered the military-industrial robbery of American taxpayers. His war and Pentagon policies are bad.
Others on the list he had absolutely nothing to do with like Lilly Ledbetter. He signed a bill passed by Democrats which he was not the mover and shaker on. I am sorry, but this is what should be everyday norm for a Dem president. Not going to get into this blind loyalist habit of attributing everything good without attributing to the people who did the shovel and spade work to make it happen.
Again, content of those lists. Should we give Obama a check for Afganistan, health care, civil rights, etc??
I’d be interested to see this broken down for Obama. The main campaign tactic for 2012 will be to praise his big resume.
O is really dyslexic. The teleprompter really said 07%, and he read it as 70%. This explains everything. I feel better already.
