The Vice President, in New Hampshire today.
At a fundraiser in Manchester, NH, today, Vice President Biden urged Democrats to “remind our base constituency to stop whining and get out there and look at the alternatives. This President has done an incredible job. He’s kept his promises.”
This again?
OK, let’s try this Team Obama.
I know you’re obviously doing focus groups on this stuff somewhere, but I’ve got to tell you. I’m your target customer and trust me — you’re badly missing the mark.
Just so we’re clear, here are a few examples of messages that don’t appeal to me at all.
“Wake up!”
“Get over it.”
“Right back at’cha. Right back at’cha.“
Yes, I do.
And none of these phrases motivate me to want to vote, canvass, give money, phone bank, blog, you know, generally take time away from putting food on my family to pull the lever for Democrats in November.
On the other hand, these would do the trick.
“We’ll fight to add the public option to the health care bill.”
“We’re getting out of Afghanistan.”
“We are pulling the remaining 50,000 troops out of Iraq.”
“We’re going to cut the approximately $1T annual defense budget in half and use the remainder to fund US infrastructure projects, including high speed rail.”
“We will roll back the Bush/Cheney executive power grabs.”
“We will repeal DADT.”
“We will fight for marriage equality.”
“We will reform the Senate and eliminate the filibuster.”
“We will make the Fed transparent.”
“We will legalize marijuana.”
Hope that helps.
Have a nice day.

About Firedoglake
You are whiny children.
•••
You are f***ing cowards.
Nice base.
Dude used to be quaint and quirky and funny.
It tested off the charts in Rahm’s office, although they did have to… edit it a bit.
The strategy to blame Rahm for everything isn’t going to be very convincing when everybody else sounds just like him and badmouths the base. Just sayin’.
It almost makes me wonder if the Drudgico guy is right and Obama really does want to lose the House this year.
I like your list much better.
A very good start.
May I vote for you?
Oh, and “We will not cut Social Security. Period.” would probably be good too.
I know that people keep saying this but it makes no political sense to me – therefore, it’s probably true.
It doesn’t really matter who it came from. Obama’s the one who said okay and ran with it. Is he really going to claim that his Chief Of Staff tricked him or bullied him into all his bad ideas?
I just can’t whine tonight as I have some sort of stomach bug that makes whining unpleasant. If I could pass it to Biden then he would have something to whine about.
Preaching to the choir Eli. I said earlier today on the Axelrod thread that it doesn’t matter who they blame, they are all complicit.
“We will keep our promises on ENDA”
“We will keep our promises on DOMA”
“We’ve issued a stop-loss order TODAY on all DADT-related discharges”
You got that right.
Drudge agrees with me?
I figure Obama wants to do everything Bill Clinton couldn’t — and that includes escaping getting investigated and impeached by a GOP Congress next year.
We’ll just start calling you Teddy Part-Drudge now.
“We will lower the Social Security full-benefits retirement age to 60 until the Jobs Emergency created by the previous Administration ends”
“We will double Social Security benefit payments immediately until American corporations stop stealing workers’ pensions through buy-outs and ‘structured’ bankruptcy”
“We have sent the Catfood Commissioners home — for good”
“We will stop using State Secrets arguments in court”
Blaming Rahm for the Progressive bashing and the back room dealing and the industry shilling, etc. is like Bush and Cheney blaming Scooter Libby for the Valerie Plame/Joe Wilson smear job. They were all involved.
“We will stop telling you to eat shit and like it.”
Bust the New Deal? No Deal.
spot on comment.
Obama will need a new devil to take the blame for his decisions – maybe “Hillary made me do it” or just “I must compromise given the 2010 election results”.
Some idiot from Politico (but I repeat myself) was on teevee saying that it was Obama’s plan to lose the House so that everyone could get a nice big fat taste of Crazy John Boehner as Speaker.
“I have asked for and accepted Timothy Geithner’s resignation as Secretary of Treasury.”
Promise to raise the cap on SS and no cuts to benefits and you’ll get my vote. Otherwise forget it.
Of course, Rahm did set a similar tone when he was running the Clinton White House. (Which is why the whole idea that Hillary would have been so much better makes me laugh; the Obama WH is Clinton redux.)
“And I have nominated Yves Smith to replace him in a recess appointment.”
Obama wants to thread the needle Clinton couldn’t — let Boehner go too far, just like Newt did, have the GOP freak flag fly, all so he can run against the do-nothing GOP Congress in 2012.
He thinks by keeping his dick in his pants he can escape impeachment, but he doesn’t understand the mentality of Issa or the relentlessness of media today, vs just Rush then.
“As head of the Democratic Party, I have asked Harry Reid for and accepted Joe Lieberman’s resignation as Committee Chair for the Department of Homeland Security.”
So who did you vote for – Clinton… or the other Clinton?
Evening, Eli.
Obama:
Is stupid?
Or is easily manipulated?
Let’s see …
No. Neither of the above.
Obama did exactly what he wanted to do. He made HIS base verra happy … and verra much wealthier.
Will Rahm fall on his sword? Going to Chicago to $ell the city to his buddy bidder$, piecemeal?
Will “they” all stop talking just like Rahm?
And who will “they” get to replace him? (The Bind Moggles …)
DW
Which was one thing that made me so very frustrated when Clinton and Obama were the only two viable candidates left in the primary season and the flame war erupted in the intertubez. How stupid! Do you want vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips or chocolate chip vanilla ice cream? The difference between them was tone and rhetoric. Period.
Evening, Bartoo.
I fear that another one of the respects in which the Obama administration resembles its predecessor is that our relief at the removal of one bum is almost immediately tempered by the appointment of an even worse bum.
great list bt … and i’m loving the additions in the comments tonight.
“Today, I am happy to announce the formation of the 21st Century Works Progress Administration, headed by Robert Reich, with a special appointment of Duncan Black as a Special Advocate for The Obvious About Getting America Back To Work.”
I’m thinking Lanny Davis or some other DLC conservadem neoliberal.
I really super seriously believe that Obama and his allies want to purge the party of liberals and bring the Republicans back to congress. To think otherwise requires me to believe that Obama is stupid. I can’t buy that.
Mark Penn!
Biden’s always had a way with words.
What the hell sort of message does it send when he goes on TV before an election and says, “hey, all you Democrats! Tell the other Democrats to shut up because their concerns aren’t worth a damn!” And in no uncertain terms.
What a winner of a message.
“I am appointing Paul Krugman to take over for Larry Summers as director of the National Economic Council”.
Impeccable wisdom, Eli,
One can’t even muster the audacious hope (really) that one might be wrong about that.
Bummers ubiquitous.
DW
UGH! I’d forgotten his name. Yep. Just so.
Why isn’t our IOKIYAD plan working????
I’m motivated.
Motivated to learn new curses in different languages, which I guess is not exactly what Biden wants, but it’s absolutely all I can do.
Yep. Even the kossacks have pretty much dropped the eleventyseven dimensional chess delusion they’ve been so desperately clinging to. Now they just don’t write up the bad sh*t coming from the administration. At least they don’t on the front page.
“Also, today I am happy to announce the 21st Century Civilian Conservation Corps.
We will create 2 million highly skilled jobs in the energy sector that will help us make a healthier planet, employ our fellow Americans, and reduce our dependence on foreign and especially oil imports of energy.”
Damn those Liberals, if they’d just STFU, nobody would notice that the country’s circling the drain.
We will disallow evidence obtained by torture.
Boy, never thought I’d say that in relation to any court run by the US, be it civilian, or a military tribunal.
Howdy ‘pups.
I’m almost to the point that I don’t care what happens in Nov. If they don’t care why should I and they need us a lot more than we need them and they know it. They’re the ones doing all the whining.
Fergawdsakes the scripts are lying on the shelves; immediately available to run with as the damn copyright has expired but not The Brand.
Conservative – means “keep shit the way it was; in 1860″
Liberal – actually means “free.”
Demonize and run from Liberal at yer peril, mates.
“I am happy to announce that we are withdrawing from Iraq and Afghanistan and pursuing diplomatic and economic solutions for the troubles in the middle east. Furthermore, I am issuing an ultimatum to the state of Israel to either halt ALL construction and settlement in the occupied territories or immediately lose all aid from the United States”.
And I sent this in to Countdown:
To: Countdown at msnbc dot com
Subject: Done With MSNBC
Date: 09/27/2010 08:25:51 PM
Keith,
Love your show, love Rachel’s show, but I’m done watching MSNBC since
Lawrence O’Donnell got a show. I watched him defend screwing the
American people out of SS based on the “fact” that the money being sent
in to cover SS is used elsewhere:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/8/31/897783/-ODonnell-Hits-a-Social-Security-Foul-Tip
This to me is an unpardonable breaking of the trust of the American
people by a Democrat.
Yours.
Glen
*clinks glass!*
I keep saying that they seem to be attempting to shame or bully me into helping them out but I’ve needed a job for going on two years and they haven’t lifted a finger to help me out. Coincidentally, my benefits will expire just about the time that election day rolls around.
1860???
More like 1800, no?
It was all like a wonderful dream…
Pick 1600 for all I care – I’m not quibbling.
1800 BC, maybe!
The Nov election is already over. I believe that at this point at least 95% of voters have decided and there’s very little that can be done now……maybe not on our wonderful propositions in Ca but for Congress.
Obama deprecates the Democratic base the way Generals Betrayus and McChrystal deprecate Obama. Of course these are the worst generals ever who even predict they will not win these wars for decades. But Obama is just their puppet as our military dictatorship becomes consolidated, with a weak, corporatist figurehead.
It may be that the details of Obama’s deal with PhRMA selling us out for corporate support, is impeachable. Certainly the unconstitutional theft of our freedoms is impeacable. Or giving a President the power to murder anyone, steal anyone’s property, imprison anyone indefinitely, and the neo-con’s favorite, torture.
These criminal wars and criminal police state must stop as they are making me poor. The only jobs available are jobs that support Obama’s wars. An R Congress with impeachment? That is so Eleven Dimensional. I am sure Obama would ask for a bipartisan solution.
I was thinking 1600 is probably about right — the Divine Rights of Kings and all that nonsense. Speaking of outmoded theories of sovereignty…
… two million jobs every six months …
Man I loved this BT post.
Good evening all!!!
Normally like all of BT’s posts, but this one really got me. I hope it wasn’t all snark.
There was way cooler gods and dinosaurs then. So, I dunno.
Yeah!
I realize that such a view isn’t popular with the base these days, but as someone who worked his butt off for Howard Dean startin’ back in July of 2003, all I need to motivate me can be summed up in just three words:
Speaker John Boehner.
I also grimace at the thought of Rand Paul as Chairman of the Budget Committee.
We got six weeks to take down the Republican Party. Then we can go after Lieberman, Ben Nelson and the rest of the Blue Dogs.
Not true. I believe that they could fire up the progressive base still but that would require courage hitherto entirely absent from the Democratic Party and especially this incarnation of it.
I think you ought to run for President, Margaret.
You’d have my vote in an instant.
And I imagine that once folks got to know you and your barbed humor, they’d vote for ya too.
I know, ya wouldn’t take the job if it was offered to ya, but the problem is that … anybody who WANTS to run things should NEVER be allowed to.
DW
Damn you should be in positions of power. World would be so much better.
Loooorve me some BT posts. Always.
I can counter that with four words: “Majority Leader Steny Hoyer”. I have to be honest, I don’t see a lot of difference except in rhetoric.
Rand Paul and Sharron Angle, should they be elected, won’t be given leadership positions anywhere near the levers of power. They’ll be the GOP minstrel show to keep the rubes amused.
Exactly.
And, BT, great post tonight, thanks.
WooHoo! That’s two votes for me for President!
Kind of the Senate’s version of Batshit Crazy Bachman?
Margaret, you will note that OldFatGuy and I have said the same thing.
Tis not mere happenstance.
DW
Make that three votes
Guess I owe ya a drink good sir.
Whatcha havin???
Yeah, let’s face it, DeMint, Cornyn and Inhofe are pretty boring….
I’m going to bring this term back into vogue:
Vichy Dems.
I’m Resistance.
We’re not voting Administrations this bout, so let’s be clear what’s at stake. Vichy or Resistance.
May the Vichy wither and become powerless.
I did notice that. That’s why I said I had two votes, (three now with BargainCountertenor).
Pass the right to organize and the right to be fired only for just cause. Say no to the WTO. Tax speculators. Keep capital here.
Fire ken salazar.
Lower SS and medicare age.
Stop your assault on teachers and public schools.
Just pick one.
Won’t happen. He’s a neo liberal yuppie arrogant sob.
Unusually, tonight’s Colbert Report >>> The Daily Show
I like the term Vichy Dems. Soooo appropos.
[You've always had me vote!]
Let’s raise a glass of pure H2O … to the kind of human beings that we need in political office, in “power”, OFG.
;~DW
Speaker Hoyer? Is there some reason why Nancy Pelosi would not continue as Speaker? I realize there would be a vote, but the thought of Hoyer as speaker never crossed my mind. Interesting…
I’d take Hoyer over Boehner though.
Actually, since de Mint and Cornyn are up in the leadership that might give the lie to Teddy’s forecast.
Although I’ve got to admit the thought of O’Donnell at the National Zoo watching monkeys trying to evolve into humans is so amusing … no… must… not… encourage… idiocy.
Makes me think of cold potato soup. Which might be somewhat appropriate.
Try again. I said majority Leader Hoyer, which he is.
That’s a lot like “I’d rather eat a tire rim than nails.”
There are no condiments or garnishes that can make a shit sandwich palatable.
WooHoo! That’s four! Add about seven zeros and I’m in business.
Hey, the Booman Tribune “A Progressive Community” has noticed.
http://www.boomantribune.com/
Right? So true!
Very Cool Post Obama it seems want to blame us because after the big build up of Obama Mania well the guy just could not perform under pressure and he is now blaming us for why we are less than impressed, less motivated to vote for him.
Much like Bush all hat no cattle. Laura and Michelle both must have stories of boredom to share I bet.
Wicked! High speed trains? I’d be happy with any type of functioning passenger rail service. Can’t seem to be able to master basic service, let alone what the boffins abroad seem able to come up with.
It is said that true leadership is recognized by others … and such leadership is most welcome in times of genuine crisis, when it makes all the difference in the world.
DW
You should look up Diebold.
Cheers my good man.
I sometimes imagine how much better life would be with decent, caring human beings in the positions of power. Life will never be easy or without pain, but when it’s intentionally made harder and more painful by those in power, well, that’s just as wrong as a football bat.
CHEERS DW, may the right kinds of folks (like Margaret) rise to the right positions!
Remember when South Park had an election between turd sandwich and giant douche? Trey Parker and Matt Stone are prophets I think.
She said Majority Leader Hoyer (which is what he is now), not Speaker Hoyer. And the main difference from Boehner is a thick coat of orange paint, but go ahead and keep pretending otherwise.
This is a new story?
You can’t get high-speed rail when you’re busy subsidizing airlines and trying to kill passenger service.
I’ve lived through too many Republican guminits to let them have the keys back now. We’ve had to claw and scrape just to claim a few inches of ground.
Ain’t givin’ it back.
They forget Newt won his Republican revolt running against the first President Bush almost as much as he ran against us change from within means you have to take out the old order.
Don’t have to. I’m fully aware of that little situation. I’ll be honest, I’ve actually thought of running for office but I think it’s pretty pointless given my personal life.
America!
F*** Yeah!
Sorry, friend I blame it on sleep deprivation from a bad cold.
Well and truly said, OFG.
Cheers!
;~DW
Ah yes, the ol’ “keys back” Democratic talking point for this cycle. Next we’ll be hearing the ditch cliche….
So amusing. The foulpatchoullismellingcommies who do so much of the work ain’t gonna sit home. Oh no. They’ll vote. Can’t stand not to participate.
It’s the “Boo, man…” of the world who will cry “Foul. This shit is foul. I got bowling league tonight. Fuck it.” who is gonna bail on participating.
Excellent list of things they should say but never will, BT.
Alas, Team Obama is conducting their focus groups at Daily Kos. For good measure they’re probably contracting Research 2000 to do their polling.
The Veal Pen does not merely whine, it also squeals.
I guess it’s vote for Giant Douche…
As long as you don’t wear a diaper or tap dance under toilet stalls, you would probably be fine.
What’s up?
You came around my Seminal post on the same topic complaining about the ‘new’ aspect.
Yes, it’s ‘new’ in the sense that it’s ‘news:’ both things happened today. Is there a specific objection to these posts, or are you just stuck on ‘new?’
Just curious
You won’t hear that from me. To be honest, I would have preferred Al Gore and Howard Dean in the White house instead of Obama and and his chief of staff.
Gotta go with the cards that were dealt.
What the hell is wrong with your personal life?
You are courageous, funny, honest, compassionate and wise.
What ain’t ya? That ya think ya lack?
Forgive me, Margaret, just honestly curious.
I am convinced that the rest of us need people just like you.
Hell, I think we deserve people of your caliber in office, in “charge”.
DW
LMAO! No, I don’t do either of those. I am a bit too anti theist though.
If there isn’t room for those who are not yet ready to chuck the Democrats altogether, the ‘fuck’em until they act club’ is going to be very, very small.
Edit: addressed to no one in particular, especially not PW.
Bailout for Wallstreet as we lose our jobs and homes how come the banks aren’t lending to homeowners? How come the NeoHoover free market Obama?Bush approach is not creating jobs. 10% unemployment is like a gunshot wound the Doctor removing the bullet but not stopping the bleeding.
You assume that we aren’t living in a Republican Government now. May I point you to Robert Gates for starters. Ben Bernanke for next.
Then, there’s all the US AGs that are still around from the Bush admin. Then, there’s the DOJ, what with last Friday’s ruling, and their reprehensible defense of DOMA (pedophiles and incest.)
You assume there are keys to give.
Unfortunately your few inches of ground is likely facing foreclosure.
Whether it’s an incomplete flush or a busted straight, it’s still a sh*tty hand and isn’t going to win you anything. Best to discard them or fold and limit your damage.
Think about what Joe’s been saying, though: I imagine he’s talking to Obama’s real base, the banksters who bankrolled his campaign, and not us at all. I mean, really, why are THEY whining? They got EVERYTHING they asked for.
Pffffft! That’s better than dating on top of a Satanic alter.
I am anti theist and I got thrown out of the Navy prior to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, (though I was neither asked nor did I tell).
I was calling Bill Clinton a Republican President in his first term. Like I don’t know these people are pwned from the get go. My point is that from 2003 on I knew that the change we seek would take more than three election cycles.
It’s kinda like we should keep buying dinner for the Dems because they picked up the tab once 50 years ago.
I’m going to go to bed good people and dream of all of you voting for me. Maybe it will be a good dream and in it I can restore some Progressive values to our nation. Oya!
I guess the $6.4 trillion question is which promises, and to who?
Actually, friend, my few inches of ground is about to alter the course of civilization…but that’s for an open thread.
Are you beyond prototype?
Newt and the wife he divorced in a hospital bed with cancer, Rush Viagra and going to the Dominican Republic with the 2nd or 3rd highest AIDS rate in the western hemisphere probably to get kids because Craigslist doesn’t advertise that. Sarah Palin the Katie Couric interview what could be more embarrassing than seeing that on tv?
If you run the entire Lake would back you.
Ya got my vote!
Late Nite threads are always open. Do tell. :)
Aw hell, that religion thing is overrated and I suspect that reasonable people are more aware of that every day.
You sound like an ideal “change agent’ to me.
Get ‘em thinking, stir up their brain cells, make ‘em come alive!
You do that naturally, correct?
Time to be all that you can be.
Think about it, Margaret.
Start where you are.
You want a job, and we want you to work for us.
Because we trust you.
You engender trust, its a gift … and a powerful one.
Tell me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.
You run for office and we’ll all rally ’round!
Guar an teed.
DW
You know, that behavior makes me wonder if there isn’t a letter in the Resolution Desk to each incoming President. Something like,
Dear Mr. Newly Inaugurated President,
Remember all the stuff you promised the plebes on the campaign trail? Forget it. Forget all about it. We really run this country, you don’t. And don’t you forget it.
Sincerely,
The Military-Industrial-Pharmaceutical Complex
I’ll let ya be in my dream if I can be in yours. Wishing you golden slumbers, Margaret. :)
It’s tempting in all seriousness. I doubt I could be a viable candidate but Lord knows Obama and the Democrats need a serious challenge from the left.
Actually, I’m almost on the other side of the Polarity Burst!
Gay Groups might rally around you. As far as God goes Reagan never went to church his reason I think was terrorist attack despite him being the most Popular GOP President in my life time.
Of course that makes me wonder just how popular he really was.
Wow! That’s quite a humbling statement and I thank you for it. :)
Goes without saying. Presidents mortgaged their souls a thousand times over before they became viable candidates.
Secret Promises made to shadows the same people who made Bush President.
I love science.
Support a Woman’s Right to Choose.
Repeal any restriction on women’s reproductive right s from the health care bill
No, Margaret, thank you.
It’s merely true.
DW
I’ve been invited to present my research at a gathering of music therapists and other scientists at the NY Academy of Science next March.
*adjusts lunatic tin foil*
No. I think that the Resolute Desk is designed to EAT Democratic Presidents, (once no one is looking, and the Prez is in the Oval Office alone for the first time) and spit out a Repub clone, and to amplify authoritarianism in Repub Presidents via wood lasers.
Srsly.
It’s going to take a wider sample to prove this, but my impression is that the human electromagnetic field is conscious in and of itself.
Cool beans!
The Stepford Presidency.
Fantastical cool, AT.
Can you hint a wee bit more, that we might have more of a clue?
DW
If your serious I’m sure you could raise some cash here. Granted the economy has hit us all but you could also get volunteers and we do issue and opposition research for fun and better than any political consultant.
We do replies to political attacks as good as or better than anybody even the other Lefty Blogs…plus we are free.
Seconded!
Thanks for adding my two cents worth to the list momcat. I’m getting just a bit crazed with the regression.
Risking stepping on my joint here, but if I remember correctly, you lost your partner going on two years ago. That is very sad, considering how far you have come.
Feel free to go print yourself some WHINE buttons, Joe.
It makes sense…
The CERN super collider is looking for the “God Particle.” The Polarity Burst, which I discovered, near as I can tell so far is an access to the “God Wave.”
Mary did a post comparing an abused wife to the Dems Biden is like an abuser blaming us for his failure’s and then trying to punish us.
I say trying my Niece in kindergarden hits harder.
Only in eleven dimensions.
Good god. It’s like watching “Being John Malkovich” at this point in my life.
I’ve moved past snark, and only getting to grumpy territory, so I should just adjourn and find the Comedy Channel.
Bon Nuit.
Diary please I don’t want to miss that send it to me on face book if you can.
Ooohhh. Cool.
We had 26 wonderful years together. I deeply regret that she’s not gonna be here when I complete my experiment.
I’ve remarried on Christmas Eve and in the process gained 4 children.
Thanks for the kind thought.
Diary. I’ve also PWNED the End of Civilization in cyberspace.
Congratulations!
Thanks for replying, AT.
I went back through the thread to follow what you’d been saying … amazing, yet more than plausible, so far as I’m concerned, consciousness and what comes from where … you are onto seriously significant “stuff”, essential “stuff”.
More “power” to ya.
And, please, if you’ve time, write some diaries to keep us informed and fascinated.
On edit: Ah I see you’ve anticipated me @ 168.
Thanks.
DW
Thanks. I’m overwhelmed to have hit the Happy Marriage button TWICE!
Trying to click to read but I get a bing search then I can’t open the highlighted article
Late to the party, but have to throw my towel in: it was as if Biden (with his charming but threaening smile) said: “We’ll lie to you, disappoint you, sell you out, but, hey, shut up and vote for us.” I’m just very, very tired of the Dems. What’s the point?!
Looking forward to hearing about your presentation.
It sounds as if your life is good right now and I hope it just gets better. We’ll be proud of you.

Since no one is punching back the crooks, they are getting their way.
I think I’m going to head out and watch Team America: World Police.
Later, folks.
The point Biden put his foot in his mouth again but the WH agrees with him. Stupid gives us opportunity I smell weakness.
The Bing link is to show that I’ve reached #1 on 3 search engines for the End of Civlization as we know it. I’m kinda proud of that.
words you will never hear from obama but ought to: (and i voted for the trickerator!)
I NEVER SHOULD HAVE RUN FOR PRESIDENT IN THE FIRST PLACE. I WAS SOOOO LACKING THE NECESSITIES, SOOOOO UNQUALIFIED, SOOOOO UNPREPARED FOR THIS JOB. I QUIT!!!
~~~ModNote: Please refrain from the all-caps, as it is very difficult to read ‘shout’. Thanks.~~~
Oh I get it now very Cool!
I would seriously like to believe that Biden is just being a good soldier here.
It is getting more difficult.
Axe had to make a fucking DVD for Obama to watch of all his campaign promises about health care to counteract Rahm’s influence, he says, and he still lost the argument. So, yeah — there’s a reason Obama kept former CIA director Gates as SecDef: he had to. He’s a pawn of powerful forces, and he hasn’t the courage to stand up to them for the people who elected him.
It seems to me that the WH is getting really worried. When one of the 2 major parties sends e-mails asking for “just $5.00″ something is seriously wrong.
He was smart enough slick enough he fooled us he just lacked Principles and a Spine. But I agree 100%.
weigel predicts that if Jerry Brown wins the California governorship he’ll announce his challenge to Obama the very next day.
OK we can hope VP’s do get sent to do the dirty work so its possible.
Its that bad I must have a cold that level of weakness I should have smelled from across the room.
They always have. The question is, is this the case now?
For all his foot-in-mouth tendencies, I like Joe, and I sense a certain reluctance in his message.
That in and of itself may mean nothing at all.
It’s nothing Obama hasn’t said himself, though — remember ‘groaning and griping’ from last week, out of Obama’s own mouth? And ‘professional left?” And ‘needs to be drug tested?’ — both from Gibbs, who was probably closest to Obama on the campaign trail.
No, this is what Obama thinks of us, and his underlings are currying favor with him by saying it out loud more often than he can afford to, being that he’s the President of ALL of us, even the left.
Can we trust Weigel? Is Jerry someone we can support?
I’ll believe it when I see it. On the bright side it would give the Dem establishment somebody to dump on besides we the lowly libs.
I’d feel better about Jerry if he had at least remained neutral on Prop 19.
Have a wonderful night, folks!
If I were part of Whitman’s camp, this is one of the many lines of BS I would ‘impart’ to a willing scribe.
How long do you suppose until Obama’s internment camps for liberals will be completed?
Jerry Brown fan, here. I’ll show up at the polls this fall just to vote for him.
G’nite AT. Think it’s lights out for me too. Splendid evening to all.
I doubt a Brown run for prez. He’s already 72 !
Even the left? funny we got him into power we did the push back on every GOP lie during the campaign so they never had time to spread.
We showed up at Town Hall Meetings. We researched issues for hours until we knew them better than Obama’s people than the GOP’s experts did.
It takes work to govern it takes no effort to fold every hand and give away everything with a compromise.
I think I’ll start calling Obama pigeon, Fat Pigeon I want to play poker with him Bush and Bill Bennet.
Nite:)
Damm we do need to start thinking of names though.
Never fear. Joan Walsh will ruffle her feathers and say a few “Well, I never. . . s” and then dutifully tell us all to vote for the party again.
Boehner may have a problem.
Starting now, I will spend my time, money, and talent to get push the rotting, maggot-infested Democratic donkey off the political stage. That party has not only outlived its usefulness but is a continuing obstacle to progress.
And, we should.
Cool the GOPers will be like sharks smelling blood on one of their own.
Oh, my, that NEVER occurred to me!
I am confused about the public relations thinking behind Biden’s statement I think the plan is to Sister Souljah us.
But we are the majority view on the issues most important to voters, despite the Main Stream Media’s attempts to shape public opinion our view is winning despite the Media’s constant barrage of propaganda.
When did the news become Propaganda like the Soviets used to have? Is an extreme level of Propaganda from the news a sign a state is failing?
Late, Late Night FDL: Carry On My Wayward Son
” To frame this crisis around a debate on economic theory misses the point entirely. To even blame it on greedy bankers, while essentially accurate, also misses the most vital point.
This crisis is the direct result of a strategic economic attack on the existence of a middle class and democracy worldwide. The stock market and economy have become weapons of mass oppression manipulated by an imperial banking cartel to impose order and exploit the masses. This crisis boldly represents the manifest evolution of the fascist spirit reasserting itself as the dominant ideology.
Any fairytale notions of the United States being a democratic republic built on the rule of law have been utterly dispelled. As a nation we have been bred and conditioned to be dangerously naïve to the darker forces which operate beyond the spotlight of the mainstream media. We have been blinded to what has been developing throughout the world.”
We already handed the party both houses of Congress and the Presidency. And the party’s crowning achievements have been to dramatically increase the surveillance state and dump on our civil liberties, spend massives amounts of money rescuing corrupt aristocrats who created the economic mess in the first place, and do practically nothing to create jobs. Why on earth should we give a shit about them now? We already came as close as we probably will ever get to giving them the opportunity to implement real change and they’ve rewarded us with the catfood commission. Why on earth should we continue to care about voting for them? I think it’s time to take a hard look at figuring something else out.
I agree that’s his/DLC plan and I agree the GOP will take him out hard either before or at the ’12 election.
That presumes we haven’t had the econ collapse that will devastate us all in ’11 as the business real estate bubble collapses fully as unemployment skyrockets in the next 12 months and consumer spending disappears.
thank’s Mod!
I have never been an advocate of cutting off my nose to spite my face.
It seems many have forgotten the lessons of the 2000 election and the 8 years of bitter tragedy that followed.
But, but, the highspeed trains might not require as much security, so then where would Homeland Security be?
And if we cut the $1T for war, how would Diane Feinstein’s husband make his money?
And if the Democrats delivered their promises, how could their corporate sponsors thrive?
Do you honestly believe that Liz Fowler and Wellpoint would not be writing the same health care bill if the GOP were in the driver seat? The Democrats passed Romney care and subsidized the health insurance industry for decades to come. Do you really believe there’s much difference in the legislation corporations write for the country when one party dominates?
The difference between them was tone and rhetoric. Period.”
I agree as to Foreign policy – and it was a turn-off for both in my world – but with Obama we got all that Islamic world love that Hillary would not have started out with – a small plus.
And on domestic policy there would have been even more of a difference – Hillary is far to the left of Bill – and far to the left of Obama – and has shown she is ready to take on the corporations and not just write them welfare checks – a large plus in my world.
1993 bill died because the corporations did not write it – and Senate egos wanted their name on a corporation written bill – but for the record the party with the majority did try to write a bill that was not written by corporations.
It died because the corporations knew it was easier to kill it and it was more profitable for them in the long run to kill it. After the long run, lobbyists simply wrote the bill. It didn’t really matter which party finally had to respond to an outraged public and put a bill together. The lobbyists would be there to make sure the bill was to their liking. The establishment political parties are irrelevant.
To answer your question: Yes.
There may not be as much difference between the two parties as you would like, but there is a measurable difference. That difference is reflected in most of the legislation enacted by this Congress.
You and me both. I’ve just moved into being openly hostile toward people who have half-baked ideas and talking points.
Whatever microscope you’re using to view the difference between the parties I just can’t see through. All I know is that a Democratic President is claiming the right to kill US citizens and defending it in court. I don’t know how I can look myself in the mirror and convince myself that it is somehow justified to vote for such a politician.
It’s been a procession hasn’t it … first gibbs, then obama, then axelrod and now biden. They’re much more interested in deflecting blame than the mid-term elections.
The entire globe is shifting and redefining itself. We have for a long time expected the political side to right itself in a recognizable way. It has not and it will not. The big question is will we do this in a civilized, life affirming way or in a brutal, artless way? Is there time left to mold the pressure building in a way that is to our advantage? Are we smart enough to out smart the bad guys?
I think it will happen in ‘a brutal, artless way’, and will probably be more the result of neglect than hands-on.
To be fair, and for reference, I am a Golden State Warriors fan.
Base, stop whining! (H/t wayoutwest on Teddy Partridge’s Delightful New Biden Message diary.)
exactly. whenever I get to talk to the youth, I make sure to mention that their time of idealism and activism should not be wasted on the Donkey Party, in any way, shape or form. The illustrative examples are numerous and strong, Least Worstism is an utter waste of time, and is fading out generationally. The last time the Democratic Party was a force for anything good is as distant as the Civil War to 20-somethings, it is pure irrelevant history to what the Party is now.
Heh.
Good points, Blue. If those bullshit lines were devised in a focus group, then the group was made up of smartass ConservaDems. Also tired of Obama’s “I wake up every day thinking of the middle class” line. Horseshit. Sounds like Bush’s old “This is hard work” line. Quit whining, Joe? Up yours, old fart.
At best, Obama (and those he’s surrounded himself with, including Biden) is hardcore neoliberal. At worst? Just from the past few days, he’s taking a crap on education, teachers, and unions. Today’s news, he wants to make wiretapping even easier to read all your Internet communication.
Couldn’t agree more. Total waste of time, energy, and will just lead to disappointment and apathy. I’d point them towards non-party affiliated local groups and NGO’s. ACLU, Amnesty International, Food Not Bombs, any community spaces where local political minded people (and maybe one of Obama’s undercover FBI agents) meet.
Too bad the guy who runs ZeroHedge fully believes in Austrian economics (or some variant of). I read ZeroHedge, but only for some critical perspectives on current economic news, not for his/their solutions. This copy and paste is from another person, David Degraw, who I don’t know much about.
If this president has kept his promises, then why the other day did Clueless Joe Biden cite tobacco and hate crimes legislation as their big achievements? How about this Joe, you know damn the promises that you and Obama made explicitly, implicitly, implicatingly, etc and you kept none of them. Don’t you get it Joe? Sometime during the Bush era a lot of Americans woke the fuck up and guess what Joe? Either you are too stupid to realize that or you too stupid to realize that you are not so fucking persuasive that you can lull them back to sleep. Either way, you are one stupid fuck.
I fully expect to be whining for a long fucking time Joe. SO GET THE FUCK USED TO IT.
No, it would have to be prior to the signing of the Magna Carta. So that’s June 15, 1215. Of course the Democrats have already helped TAKE us back to pre-MC days, by abolishing habeas corpus.
Nice to see that PDQ Bach didn’t live in vain, by the way…
Here are 2 more that would appeal:
1) We will fire the deficit commission and oppose
any Social Security cuts
2) We will veto any attempt to extend the Bush
tax cuts to the wealthy
Yes indeed, it was a choice between a Republican disguised as a Democrat (Hilary) or a Democrat with aspirations to be a Republican (Obama). And this is the problem with all our elections. We appear to have a choice but in fact they are all in the same party whose agenda is let’s get rich forwarding the agenda of Wall Street and the six major industries, and let’s not forget the military and screw the American people back into the Dark Ages. And surprise, surprise, here we are again! We can vote for Democrats who despise us and are busy screwing us or we can vote for Republicans who despise us and want the opportunitiy to screw us more.
At first I thought this idea was too paranoid, but now I’m coming around. It’s just hard to believe that a party seeking election would go out of its way to insult and alienate its base. “Vote for us you whiners and retards.” I’m inspired now. These arrogant masters of the universe see us all as ignorant rubes. We are inconvenient ingrates who just won’t accept the ‘new normal’ as our just desserts. But you know what really chaps my ass? When Obama arrogantly lifts his chin up like Il Duce and tells us all the problems he faces are ‘complicated’. Too complicated for us rubes to understand and too complicated for him to understand and fix either. It’s all a scam and the coming election is just a fight for who will become head scammaster.
John Edwards anyone? Yes I know he’s a womanizing scumbag but……
We have all heard both Democrats and Republicans preach change – lets clear that up – what they want is to go from the other guys way of stealing your money and rights of freedom – to their way of stealing them!
The two party system is broken and has been for decades! It simply does not work for the American People. We need to stop enriching the few at the cost of the many.
Congressional Oversight Commitees – What a joke! – Criminals overseeing Criminals.
Perhaps we should test these people on our Bill of Rights, Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
These politicians have forgotten that they work for All of the American People and not the Special Interests of a few.
That’s the only thing that makes sense.
Since I’ve long said that Obama is a closet republican, and that he also drank his own kool-aid on bipartisanship, this would be the perfect scenario for him.
Undivided government — POTUS & Congress both rethug, uh repub.
Only problem for him is that they will still hate him on that side of the aisle.
For the nation it’s lose-lose.
Just sayin’.
