But I may have to worry! Those hot inland temps contribute to sundowners. The coast cools and draws the hot inland temps. The hot air comes over the mountains and rushes down the slope, creating friction and raising the temperature to higher than what it was in the desert.
I’ll be on Steens Mountain in the SE Oregon desert in a couple of weeks. Indicated temps running 85 to 90 about now, but drilling down to actual temps at 8 to 9000 ft indicates 20F cooler. I thought we were going to see a bit of winter by then.
My friend in Anchorage reported a dusting of snow this morning.
We get that even this time of the year in Portland with an east wind that can heat up both the interior and the beach. Mountains to the east of both cause the same effect.
I’m the opposite. If I have to take heat, give me dry. I grew up in Chicago and I hate heat and humidity. With that hot east wind it is DRY! But then we have forest fires as a result.
Not much chance this year. It was muggy today at about 70F.
We had an Alaska version of Indian Summer up through last Thursday. One of the best Septembers I can remember. Then it all came crashing down.
Ms. ET flying out to villages to mentor young teachers in the morning. Each week she goes out there, the weather she has to fly through to get to towns that have been there 5,000 years but have no roads, gets more dangerous.
Good evening, all, sorry to miss most of you on the previous thread, guests from out of town called me away from the computer. Hope all is well, hi CT!
I was down in the south bay visiting the in-laws. It was warm but pleasant.
On the way back I listened to This American Life. The title was Life after Death.
We got back and went out to BBQ we were almost hit twice trying to park the car. My adrenaline went up. The air in the car was recycled and the windows had fogged up. I had to get out of the car right away. It was kind of creepy. I kept thinking about the TAL stories we just heard of someone getting killed in a car crash and kids getting killed. If I wasn’t driving I would have had a beer, but I definitely wasn’t going to have one after listening to the stories.
You know I’m trying to write a TAL pitch. The problem is that I just don’t know if the story fits.
They do stories that are funny and sad.
I have to remember that just because they reject my story doesn’t mean it’s bad, but doesn’t fit their format. Plus I’ve had my story told. But as I see the rise and bias speech against Muslims and the gleeful rise of tea partiers. I keep thinking I should talk again about how to go about making hate speech unprofitable for corporations and bad for brands.
The equation that hate speech toward Muslims is okay needs to be changed. And felt my methods worked in a way that didn’t restrict speech but made the sponsors of the speech aware so they could decide if they wanted to associate with this.
I feel we have so few tools to use when we have a rw media that has few limiting factors.
I remember that one. Funny quirky. I think my story could go all sorts of directions. When I’m depressed I think of what an idiot I didn’t monazite this. And how it has taken up so much of my life with no financial gain.
Other times I’m proud.
I wish that the action would have resulted in finding a “home” for my work.
But the forces of conserative propaganda are well funded the forces of good need to sell t-shirts to each other to survive. :-(
Zed!
Tuttle!
Too hot to think. Sundowner conditions in SB and it’s 89° right now. Temp went up about 15° in the past two hours.
This time last night there were 20, 30 posts!
that maintenance thing is a killer
It’s cooler in Death Valley, under 80.
There seems to be a stuckness.
Sunday syndrome. We’re all cranky that tomorrow is Monday.
It’s a very strange phenomenon. A friend who lives 1/2 mile away is not feeling the same thing we are.
I am nothing if not full of stuckness.
Went to the Edgefield October Fest this afternoon. Complete with belly dancers.
Belly Dancers? OctoberFest?
Not to worry! 111F tomorrow in Death Valley, or at least, China Lake. The desert really cools off!
The last time I was in the desert – in Tuscon – let’s just say I’m not going back there without my portable nuclear-powered humidifier.
What a frying pan.
CT has left the premises!
Surf’s up, or what?

Ha! ET! Just mentioned Anchorage. Did you see the snow?
We get that even this time of the year in Portland with an east wind that can heat up both the interior and the beach. Mountains to the east of both cause the same effect.
I can deal in the humid. I love the muggy.
Orlando, Dallas, Austin.
The dry – Tucson – is a killer.
Hell, I grew up in perpetual 90% humidity and 68 degree temps.
F***ing California.
100 degrees tomorrow. 64 right now. If it didn’t get cool here at night I would live somewhere else.
Howdy folks!
Hi Mary!
I can see snow from my house. It may be Russian. None here yet, though. 37 degrees F, blowing 15 to 25 mph.
I’m the opposite. If I have to take heat, give me dry. I grew up in Chicago and I hate heat and humidity. With that hot east wind it is DRY! But then we have forest fires as a result.

I grew up in 90% humidity and 90 degree temps. Sucked. Except I didn’t know it cause I had never lived anywhere else.
Hey Starbuck!
In ’93, I drove from SF to Tucson to see a sister.
I was constantly wet and hydrating in the car.
I got out of the car in her driveway, and within a half hour, I had a bloody nose.
Hadn’t had one of those in years.
My humblest apologies, ya’ll…! I swear the NSA has it in for me…! 8-(
Aloha…!
Just so long as it isn’t Russian to get to the lower 48!
NSA? Uh oh!
Maybe that Israeli Stuxnet worm penetrated my Windows system too…! Pbbbl… Newt…! ;-)
You running nukes for Iran these days?

If it’s ok with you, I’d like to do a temperature meld so that we can enjoy the benefits of each other’s world.
Good evening, all, sorry to miss most of you on the previous thread, guests from out of town called me away from the computer. Hope all is well, hi CT!

Aloha, Teddy…! Will ya be my first Fire Pup that I meet if Abercrombie wins…? ;-)
Uh-oh…! Did I chase everybody away…? 8-(
I had to actually wear long pants and a sweatshirt today, there’s a definite chill in the air. Dropped 30 degrees from last week.
Hi CT, everyone.
No, but I am going to go to bed. The overkill last night from that Polka contest still needs rest!
Jealousy, CT. or it may just be bed time for most.
Pleasant dreams, Starbuck…!
*heh* A legend honoring a legend…! ;-)

CT, you could meet ME. Only an island away.
I feel for you. Those TAL stories are so well done that you feel like you’re part of them. When it’s a tough story, it’s really hard.
My Isle or your Isle…? ;-)

If Sarah Vowel’s father’s cannon fits, I’m sure you could make the grade.
Edit – this link goes straight to an mp3 player.
I apologize for not garnering even a hundred comments tonite…! I shall bid ya kind folk, a fond adieu tho…! *g* Aloha Oe…!
