Thanks for the Senate seat, Teabaggers!
The latest Public Policy Polling (D) results suggest that Christine O’Donnell faces an uphill battle in her race for Vice President Joe Biden’s old Senate seat in Delaware. In a poll of 958 likely Delaware voters conducted this weekend, PPP found that Democrat Chris Coons leads O’Donnell 50 percent to 34 percent. [...]
The principle challenge O’Donnell faces is convincing Delaware voters that she is qualified to be a U.S. senator. According to the PPP survey, 49 percent of the electorate doesn’t believe that O’Donnell is fit to hold public office. In head-to-head matchups, Castle would have garnered 30 percent of Democrats, 64 percent of Republicans, and 45 percent of Independents, compared to 54/16/27 for Coons. We see very different numbers for the O’Donnell/Coons race, with O’Donnell getting just 13 percent of Democrats and 36 percent of Independents, with 61 percent of Republicans backing her. Even if she manages to get Republicans to come home, she’ll still trail Coons (who will presumably get a number of undecided Independents and Demcorats).
And the Palinization of the GOP continues.

About Firedoglake
From the State of Delaware’s Elections website with 100% reporting:
Verifiable Paper-Based Absentee Results:
CASTLE: 54.7% – O’DONNELL: 45.3%
Unverifiable Election Day DRE (Direct Recording Electronic) Machine Results:
CASTLE: 46.7% – O’DONNELL: 53.3%
Details…
It is impossible to prove that a DRE engaged in “counting,” let alone that they accurately counted the vote.
Think of DREs as electronic black holes where votes disappear, never to be seen again.
Teatard O’Donnell:
Link.
There were people who felt that way regarding Coakley’s run. With a good portion of the media behind Republicans and the Tea Party, I think anything can happen, no matter how big of a moron O’Donnell is. Look at all of the crap that’s already in the Senate.
God knows we couldn’t have won it for ourselves.
Take it up with the citizens of Delaware.
I agree that it’s not time to celebrate winning Delaware’s Senate seat. That being said, it’s apparent that with O’Donnell’s win, Coons has a chance to win that he wouldn’t have had if Castle had taken the primary.
I’ll skip the video BT. It’s far too early for Tweety.
Mornin’, BT, pups
From NYT
Republicans Get a Partner, but Who Will Lead?
Gonna get me some old fashioned popcorn, none of that awful microwave shit.
It’s always too early for Tweety, imo.
Agreed.
I clicked the video without really thinking because I wanted to hear Coons. Tweety played it pretty straight. Just one unsuccessful interruption that I can recall. I’d rate it safe for viewing.
From the Rachel Corrie Foundation website
Somebody at the White House got to Steny Hoyer who just hours after being open to a “compromise” on tax cuts for the filthy rich is now saying no way. I guess health insurance companies and pharaceuticals are all the Obama White House wants in it’s pocket.
And I have an extremely low tolerance.
It’s still Tweety.
Most of the U.S. electorate are low information voters that get their “news” from the corporate media, if not Fox. They’ll dance to the tune given to them and in that world all things are possible, even what the left thinks is impossible.
‘Morning, everyone!
Love how the Mean Girl, who won the primary in part on anti-gay smears against Mike Castle, tries to imply that Castle and Coons are the mud-flingers. Coons deftly parries her videotaped bullshit. Plus, he doesn’t let Tweety interrupt him! He finishes his own sentences before responding to Matthews. Polite yet firm.
Coons says he would have voted yes on both HCR and FinReg, but that he would call for watching the effects of both bills so that they can be revisited if necessary, and that there are parts of both bills he disagrees with. Sounds like a statement tailored to appeal to both those of us in the base and to moderate Republicans.
Tweety asked if he’d asked Castle for his endorsement. He said that he had talked with him the night before but didn’t bring up endorsements as he felt that Castle needed some time to process what had just happened.
I think he makes a nice contrast to Mean Girl and her wackiness, and Delawareans will see his calm (bordering on dull) divinity-school demeanor as reassuring by comparison. I hope that the NRSC and/or the Koch brothers waste a ton of money on her, because he’s going to win this in a walk.
Former Florida Republican Party leader Jim Greer:
Waiting to hear from Mike Castle. These same people fed the wingnutty base which ousted them. Jim Greer was the one that turned Obama talking to school kids into a nationwide scandal. “Moderate” Mike Castle went along with every single filibuster that the Republican leadership insisted on. I think “moderate” Voinovich went along with all but one. Now Castle has lost his seat because he believes in science. You reap what you sow Mikey. Hope you like it.
Hell, even Baucus is on board — now THAT’s a real shocker being as he’s the fifth generation of a wealthy ranching family.
Maybe they can finally read poll crosstabs?
New York had black box voting problems and I have a problem with unauditable elections.
Think the last land slide election was rigged to firewall a 60+ majority in the Senate? I do.
Yup, yup, and yup. When it counts — especially on judicial and other nominations — the GOP’s “moderates” go with the party line every fricking time, even when it pisses off their folks at home.
I’m hoping that Dem candidates all over the country make the Koch brothers’ funding of all this craziness part of every campaign speech and literature.
One of the reasons Coons was polling so low is that he’s trying to be a blue dog. The divinity school thing is new to me but not surprising. If the Democrats had run a progressive, they probably could have faced Castle and won.
Yeah, and told him you’re blowing our cover, asshole. Stop it. We cave LATER.
Greer hasn’t said he made a mistake with those comments but has said he looks forward to Obama doing it again. He really got burned by his original comments.
NPR certainly hasn’t. The corporate media including NPR are allowing the Kock Bros to fly under the radar. Maybe they think the baggers makes the “races” more entertaining. After all it’s all about the entertainment, don’t ya know?
NPR really sucks.
Yes, even racism is entertaining.
I agree that elections should be auditable and I respect the work of Brad Freidman but I don’t believe in WTC “implosions” and so forth. The science presented in those theories is all wrong so I have to look at the source in this case. I believe that the voting machines can fudge around at the margins of elections but my belief that they can be used to affect outcomes took a huge hit when somebody (republicans), torched the warehouse in which the Harris County voting machines were stored.
Exactly! There won’t be a vote until after the election anyway. Not the final vote with the “compromise” in it.
Yep and once again the Bush cronies that ruined it are STILL IN PLACE!
The Rs bring fear, anger, hate, and resolve to the battle.
Barry brings a speech. No wonder we’re fucked.
Well, like I told a friend last night; this ta party thing disturbs me because once these ideas enter the political discourse, people get used to them.
Demint worries these tea baggers are too “conservative”

I guess he couldn’t say “batshit crazy white supremacists”.
Man! If the cons think they’ve got “government intrusion” in their lives NOW>>>>>>>>
I worry about my nation which gave away it’s rights for a perceived strong man who was as stoopid as they are…..and could “have a beer with”

Namaste dear.
Nice Polite Republicans.
The thing is that the popularity of the Teabag Party is falling pretty dramatically. Soon the only people left will be that hard core group of people who still supported Bush and Cheney at the end. Between 20 and 25 percent of the overall electorate. That may be enough motivated voters to win some primaries but it’s not going to win them much in the generals.
Well, if the Romans found murder in the arena entertaining surely the U.S. public can find entertainment in racism, war, hunger, poverty, or disease.
Fine if it stays with the GOP, but if the US gets Palinized we are in serious doo doo. We don’t take that possibility seriously enough, seeing it as an obscene joke, but if things get bad enough, people may go for that gal on a white horse. A. Hitler is a case in point.
Absolutely. I’ll bet a whole lot of the German people who stayed home on election day in 1934 had wished they had gone to the pols by 1937!
Blue Texan,
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A “TEA PARTY”…………………
Palinization of the GOP? Wrong answer. There is NO such thing. Palin and her supporters are still the Nazi Germany, Ghengis Khan, Stalin, and Mao wing of the Republican party, with a pinch of anti-establishment added to them to taste. Look at the positions and policy prescriptions of the “mainstream” Republicans (if such a thing exists) and the so-called “Tea Party”. Both factions believe in the same things and are essentially going to bring you Cheney-Bush policy on steriods to the forefront…………..
coons comes across to me as another blue dog dlc democrat… he’ll be voting with repugs if elected…
I really did not expect the confrontation between the tb’ers and the rino’s to get this ugly this early.
But, my oh my, palin taking on Karl Rove and Fox news taking on Karl Rove!?
Are they stupid or just that arrogant?
As long as there’s someone to blame…yeah
I take it seriously, esp after Beck created his “Black Robes”.
The guns are starting to swivel inward.
Yes.
No, it’s just another way to get Rove back into the spotlight. He’s ready for another round of harming the country
Don’t forget their Christ.
You mean I can only pick one, not both?
Re the “Palinization” of the USA: I agree. Whilst we decry her & her cronies, aka Beckerhead, here, a lot of citizens kinda ignore it all. That’s fine, but the racist T-party nastiness & lies ends up being absorbed by many almost as if by osmosis. And then it seems “normal” to some, who start spouting their dreck as “truth.” It’s a concern.
Go for broke! Choose both.
Ironically, many of the T-partiers I know came to loathe W at the end bc they truly feel that Bush was “too liberal.” I kid you not. They have “reservations” about Cheney, but “liked” him more than W.
Bernie Sanders was just on C-span Washington Journal. He was like a rock star, only one caller was negative. It is amazing what straightforward talk gets you…
As another post here stated, I agree that Coons is probably Blue Dog & will be almost guaranteed to vote R consistenly, especially now that he running against a totally rabid T-party nutcase. He’ll feel obliged to prove his conservative bona fides if he wins.
My point: even if Coons wins, what have progressives gained? Yet again: not a d*mn thing.
“Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups.”
- Phil Steffen
I’ve noticed that too, but so far the TV box has managed to keep the baggers in the headlines, as if the tea party is the majority.
I think that’s just theatrics, to make them seem more moderate than they really are. “Look at us! See, we’re attacking that extremist Karl Rove! We’re not so bad, you can trust us!”
That as well. But the days of treating the “Tea Party” as some sort of stand-alone movement should be long forgotten. There is no tea party they are merely the extreme rightwing of the GOP gone off the reservation from the establishment playbook.
Kassandra,
Let’s adopt all “GODS”, starting with the following:
Odin, Thor, Zeus, Hercules, Osiris, Hera, Isis, Athena, Frigg, and Amora the Echantress………….
