Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin (Ret.) (source: Wikipedia)
Marcy and Spencer wrote earlier today about the report published by the Center for Security Policy; it’s a think-tanky piece (PDF) which puts a glossy spin on what can only be called propaganda.
And while Marcy was pointed in her criticism of the report, and Spencer appropriately skeptical about the old school-ishness of the work, neither of them may have known about a mass email sent out a couple weeks ago which presaged this propaganda.
I received the pathetic communication, addressed to me as “Defender of the Constitution.” I almost didn’t open it because it came in the same way as so many other far right Christian fundamentalist stuff, sent from a single clearing house which handles a polyglot of uniformly uncharitable and unChristian missives.
The wretched part of this email, besides the horrible anti-Muslim rant against the Park51 mosque and spin claiming Sharia law will infect us all: Lt. Gen. Willam G. Boykin (Ret.) is a signatory to this crap.
The same Boykin who worked with the Center for Security Policy as a “Team Leader” on the anti-Muslim think-tanky piece.
The same Boykin who has on numerous occasions made highly controversial and inflammatory comments denigrating Muslims or Islamic faith.
And the same Boykin who’s been implicated as a planner for secret programs using Special Forces during the Bush Administration in the War on Terror, as well as secret programs against Iran.
There’s nothing at all legitimate about a so-called report which relies on the input of world-class bigots like Boykin.
You can read the pre-report wingnuttery below the fold if you have the stomach for it.
Defender of the U. S. Constitution,
The Obama Administration’s Department of Homeland Security recently swore in two devout Muslims in senior posts.Arif Alikhan — a devout Muslim, as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development.
DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano swore-in Kareem Shora, a devout Muslim, who was born in Damascus, Syria, as ADC National Executive Director as a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC).
Was it not “Devout Muslim men” that flew planes into U.S. buildings 9 years ago? Was it not a Devout Muslim who killed 14 at Fort Hood?
And now the building of not just a mosque, but an Islamic Training Center near Ground Zero! The Imam is radical and blames 9-11 on the United States!
Even though we are for religious freedom, why should someone be against a Mosque at Ground Zero? Strangely enough, let’s look at the Qur’an:
1. Read Sura 18:21 and you will know WHY Muslims insist on building a mosque over Ground Zero (they also built mosques, as symbols of victory, over Spanish churches in Cordoba and Seville and Segovia, and Agia Sophia in Constantinople)
2. Kill Non-Believers. Sura 9:5, 9:3, and 9:29 of the Koran effectively commands Muslims to kill the non-believers
3. Democracy and Imposing Sharia Law. Sura 5:48 makes it clear that Muslims do not accept the manner by which men choose to rule themselves (i.e. a Constitution, laws, Democracy), but that the Muslims must rule over us “in accordance with God’s revelations to you” (i.e. to the Muslims). This Sura puts them in direct opposition to the Constitutions of all Western Countries.

Here is what their Qur’an says about:
4. Jews and Christians. Sura 5:51, 5:54, and 5:60 label Jews and Christians as “pigs and monkeys”
5. The Qur’an Supersedes All Previous Scripture. Sura 5:48 and 5:57 establish that the Qur’an supersedes all previous scripture (i.e. including the Bible and the Torah)
6. Later Verses of the Qur’an Supersede Earlier Ones (Sura 5:48). This means that the last Suras are what govern a devout Muslim and NOT the early ones. The latter ones are the ones calling for the killing of Jews and Christians.
In fact, you might also want to note that Sura 5 and 9 are among THE LAST THREE SURAS written. There are 114 Suras in all. To a devout Muslim, these commands are clear. We live in dangerous times.
On September 17 we celebrate Constitution Day in the US. Our Constitution is very much under open and surreptitious attack by the forces of Islam.
A resurgent Islam is threatening us not only abroad, but inside the borders of America.
The controversy surrounding the building of a giant mosque and Islamic community center at Ground Zero is but a mere manifestation of the insensitivity and organized campaign of Islam to change America. The families of the 9-11 victims deserve much respect—building an Islamic mosque near their death spot is NOT “respect”!

The Muslim Brotherhood, which was founded in 1928 in Egypt and pursues an Islamic fundamentalist agenda, has been actively trying to subvert the U. S. way of life for decades.
In November 2008 a Federal Court for the Northern District of Texas found the defendants guilty of raising $ 12 million in donations from trusting Americans to the Holy land Foundation. Holy Land Foundation turned out to be a front for collecting and sending money to Hamas, an organization based in Gaza and classified as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government.
During the trial, a vast array of secret documents of the Muslim Brotherhood came to light, which the defendant acknowledged as original. They laid bare the Brotherhood’s use of “front” civic organizations. One of the documents produced and acknowledged as original was an “Explanatory Memorandum” authored by Mohamed Akram, and dated May 22, 1991. The memorandum calls for the Muslim faithful in America to engage in “a kind of Jihad in eliminating and destroying Western civilizations from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house…”
It refers to the need to present “Islam as a civilization alternative” and states that “It is a Muslim’s destiny to perform Jihad…” The Federal Judge on this case was so outraged by the evidence presented that he ordered the list of 302 Unindicted Co-Conspirators to be published on the Court’s web site. You can still find it there today on the Internet.
Europe is slowly, but steadily, being Islamized!
Are YOU prepared to allow the same to happen in the United States?

Our Order and its predecessor going back to the 11th century AD, always made protection of Christians and our Judeo-Christian culture its main purpose. Will you help us with your contribution, so that we can help those in the United States who can raise awareness of the danger confronting us and our Constitution?
Will you help us with your contribution so that we can help Christians
abroad who are under persecution, often very violent, because of their faith? Will you help us with your contribution so that we can continue to perform a function in support of Christianity that started almost 1,000 years ago?
Will you help us with your contribution so that we can oppose the building of a mosque at Ground Zero?

This is extremely serious. It’s not just about ONE mosque being built near the 9-11 catastrophe, it is about Sharia Law not stopping until they overtake each and every government on this earth. That is what their own Qur’an orders them to do! Thank you so very much for your concern. Thank you for taking time to genuinely care about this world-ALTERING situation that we are confronted with. I pray that you, too, will have the compassion of Christ,

This email still makes me feel all squidgy and disgusted. What a dishonor this guy was to the uniform.
rayne!
lard love a duck, this dood is forking insane with hatred.
I can name a hell of a lot more devout Christians who have killed a hell of a lot more people than I can devout Muslims.
I hate Sharia Law and any kind o’ Trial Lawyers period! /s
Disgusting.
If Muslims wrote this about Christians Boykin would be outraged.
What bugs me about these people is that to them, Sharia law = bad but fundy Christian law, (which is just as backward and barbaric) = good. WTF is the difference which set of fifteenth century laws we live under since they seem determined to make us fear one and embrace the other?
both sets try to keep women subjugated and voiceless.
Boykin seems to live on a steady diet of false outrage. I find it outrageous.
The real Enemy we are Facing… is Boykin and his krewe.
Good gravy, how many millions have been killed in the name of Christianity? I just don’t remember from all my years in catechism and Catholic schooling when Christ’s teachings were overturned by Leviticus-like ethics?
Marcy’s right that the Center for Security Policy made shit up, in an effort to create a bogey man who could be denied civil rights; Spencer was right that the Team B approach the Center used has already been proven juvenile and inept.
But they give too much credit to these folks when they count a Class A whackjob like Boykin as a contributor to their work. They were trying to reason with a psychotic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Hospitaller
Protestants becoming allied orders with a Catholic military group I thought this was wingnut fiction.
Yes that he passed a psyche exam to get into Delta Force thats an outrage.
I spent several years attending Catholic Sunday School and many times they spoke of slaughter done in the name of “god” reverently and with awe. I kept asking if god was all loving, why was it okay to slaughter people? Seems like though god was all loving and all forgiving, there were a whole lot of exceptions to those rules and they all involved brutally killing the transgressors. It made me anti theist.
Yep. That too. That’s one reason why people like Palin and O’Donnell piss me off so. If they want to walk down a path into perpetual servitude, then the least they can do is not insist that I go with them!
It seems like an excuse to run around and play in uniforms with capes, to belong to a religious organization like this.
But it also provides a veneer of faux authenticity that older Christians might accept too willingly, the kinds of folks who grew up respecting the Knights of Columbus and other quasi-religious community organizations.
That’s part of the danger with Boykin — he lays claim to several layers thick of patina used to access trust of older voters.
Not at all. When you can have Jewish Christians, (Christian Jews?), then I suppose anything is possible.
I remember when it was the Shriners riding around in their little cars, wearing their little fezzes and spooning their brand of hate around. What is it with retired military officers?
Heh. I wonder if that was the secret program against Iran you just described?
Send in a bunch of Shriners in fezzes in tiny cars to mine prospective routes to nuclear development sites…
Jon Stewart apparently just announced a big march on DC scheduled for…. GOTV weekend, just before the midterms, when his audience needs to be getting their friends out to vote, not par-taying in Washington with other fans.
Stupid.
gotta get greeted with chocolates and flowers
Yeah, that’s pretty colossally stupid.
It’s this kind of stuff which separates the politically active from the punditry — folks who know how democracy actually works would never dream of scheduling anything on weekends September through the first week of November during an election year.
And pundits party all the time.
Evenin’, all-
Holy jumped-up Jeebus on a cracker, I got that same email a week or so ago. Kept it just to show people what sane people are up against in this country.
Hey, bet that was the problem in Iraq!! No Shriners in fezzes in tiny cars, therefore no candies and flowers!
We should put David Petraeus on this right away. Surely they can buy off the Taliban long enough to keep the supply routes clear so that we can get the Shriners into Afghanistan.
You do that too? I save them in a folder when they show up. About one in five emails I will get something via my family email account from my parents asking me, “Did you get an email like this? Is it true???”
Then I leaf through the wingnut email folder, find the one which probably turned into an ugly chain email, pick apart all the bullshit arguments in it with Snopes, then write an explainer back to my folks and copy all their stupid friends: “This email got to you via these people, who lied about this, this, and that, and here’s the sources which explain the lies. Have a nice day and lose my email address.”
They must have taken my request to heart because they didn’t ask me about the Boykin email.
It could make the difference in California, on Prop 19.
Hope he reconsiders. Maybe in time for the West Coast re-run?
Good Evening Ms Rayne and Firedogs -
It was this whackaloon I thought of when Scahill’s “Hunting People for Jesus” in Afghanistan story broke –
somewhat embarassed to admit I really didn’t know him outside of the Bush era – good lord, that’s the kind of career that could make a body believe in the black helicopter crowd’s conspiracy theories.
jesus, can’t decide whether he’s Shiva Goddess of Death or Jethro Bodine
This was an email, not a snail mail? With luck, then, my very elderly mother didn’t get it. She gets the most amazing wingnut mails – I throw them out before taking in the mail when I’m there, but that’s a drop in the bucket of crap stuff she gets. Don’t know how much she believes – we can’t talk politics, so we don’t.
and I should add – knowing what I’m reading now, this mofo should be watched 24-7, catch his ass with a Ghorbanifar or one of the other usual suspects, we’ll know what’s up with Eye-Ran
Oh gosh yes, Teddy, that would be great if he rethought that and did it in CA to help get the youth vote out for Prop 19.
Yeah. My first thought was, These people are still fighting the Crusades. A friend of mine, as a joke, signed up for updates from some wingnut-hive with my email addy, and I now get all kinds of shit I would never have believed if I hadn’t seen it.
It’s amazing how ignorant one can be and still attain flag rank.
Oh, I don’t think the choice has to be mutually exclusive. This guy is whacked enough to be Shiva Goddess of Death and Jethro Bodine along with a couple other personalities with a persecution and a savior complex.
Get the Thorazine, stat!
Man oh man, I hope your mom doesn’t write checks out to these kinds of dopes when they ask for money.
During my last gig working for a news outlet, one of my team went dumpster diving outside a conservative political organization. They found all kinds of un-shredded trash including handwritten, desperate-sounding letters from elderly folks saying, “I only have $20 left this month, I hope this is enough for now,” or “Here’s a five-dollar bill, it’s all I have.” So sad, and to find their names, addresses, other personal information in the trash, tossed with so little regard for them.
And, in further bad news – this is getting worse and worse — from my local newspaper, referring the Texas Board of Education (sigh. no doubt you’re familiar with their idiocies regarding evolution and American history):
This isn’t even on their agenda – the books in question are not used in Texas schools. They have no reason to be doing this – they just want to get in on the burn-the-Koran/stop-the-ground-zero-mosque action that’s getting all the current attention.
mwaah !
really, all those major ops and fucked up almost all of them in spectactular and deadly fashion
again, somewhat embarrassed I was unaware but I am gobsmacked by what I am reading
That’s weird – not sure why the link broke the margins. In any case anyone wants to read it
i’m not seeing a link in your 35 tejan
Not O/T – We live in the Republic of Dogbert
Boynkin has long been a H8′r Boinker.
I’m not surprised at this and Englehardt, Cole, and many others including Raimondo have been on Boynkin’s case for a long time.
He’s inhuman and not fit for the uniform.
Thanks Rayne, for keeping this up front about the inglorious bastard.
Re writing checks – I’ve seen her checkbook – only one of them has gotten any money from her, and it’s small amounts which she can actually afford. She’s not living on social secuirty alone, thank dog.
Can’t remember which one – something claiming to be trying to save social security, I think. I noticed last year that a lot of them come from different named organizations led by the same woman, whose name escapes me.
When I first noticed this, I thought about trying to explain to her why the begging letters are lying, then realized they stop just short of outright lies. Besides, Mom was in the hospital at the time, which was why I was there.
That’s cause I deleted it on edit – it was way outside the margins, for some reason. Sorry. Shoulda just deleted the whole thing, I guess. See 36 for the link to the San Antonio Express-News article about the whackaloonery (word stolen from a TBogg commenter).
a possible silver lining in that story, tejana
their earlier exploits this year are said to be what started tanking Perry’s numbers among so called sensible, establishment Repubs
yeah so go ahead TEB, remind everyone he’s empowered the loons.
Oh, definitely on topic — but Dogbert has a redeeming quality, he’s cuddly and smart.
Unlike Boykin.
For some reason I’m thinking Boykin was shown the door, but I can’t recall if that was the case or not. Might have been subtle pressure, too — “Nice retirement you got there, Boykin, shame if anything happened to it…”
i think it may have been the long word with all the -’s ….. i’ve noticed margin trouble with those kinda words before…
“I was posting false information on the internet.”
*G*
Nice one, hoss.
*G*
Thanks, Kelly. Entertaining, though slightly depressing.
Saint Dogbert for president!
Another great Dogbert moment.
You know, I used to find Dogbert more entertaining when I was a corporate drone and actually knew Dogbert-types in Human Resources.
Now that I know there are Dogbert-types in government and military, he’s a much more grim character. Almost too realistic to be funny.
Egg-zackly.
The Dilbert Principle isn’t really applicable in government and military. The higher they are promoted the more destructive they become.
Oh ratfood, you almost made me choke on my popcorn laughing.
It works in gov’t and military in exactly the same way it works in corporations.
Ken Lay, John Snow, Dick Cheney…you get the drift.
*G*
Yep – thing is if Dilbert would just whack Dogbert with the paper (media) a couple times, and stand up to his craven boss, Dilbert’s world would be a bit different, wouldn’t it.
Jamelle Boulle at TAP almost managed to say that today.
Imagine….
Eventually, the Fellowship would count some of the military’s top leaders among its members. They include former Joint Chiefs Chairman General David Jones, Joint Chiefs chairman General Richard Myers, former Marine Corps Commandant General James L. Jones, Iran-contra figure Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North, and, perhaps even more controversial than North, Army Lt. Gen. William “Jerry” Boykin, the military head of Defense Secretary Rumsfeld’s intelligence branch. In 2003, Boykin, in a speech to the First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, Florida, referred to the United States as a “Christian nation” and, that in reference to a Somali warlord, he stated, “ I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol.” The reverberations of Boykin’s comments were felt around the world. But his allies and Fellowship compatriots, Rumsfeld, Myers, Kansas Representative Todd Tiahrt, and most important, George W. Bush, refused to condemn him.
Soon afterwards, Boykin’s Pentagon intelligence group was discovered to have been involved with the torture and sexual molestation of prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The sexual molestation of prisoners included male and female teens being held in Iraq.

[Picturing Obama thwacking Rahm with a wet newspaper while telling him to get his ass back to Chicago...]
Yeah, that’s a kicker, ain’t it? How many of those folks were involved in some way with promoting the run-up to Iraq and the subsequent war crimes which followed?
The Dilbert Principle states (emphasis mine):
It’s not possible in government and military to promote incompetent people to a position where they do less damage. House or Senate leaders, President, Joint Chiefs… the harm they do is almost incalculable.
Of course if constrained to middle management… Head of FEMA, maybe?
Yeah, pony’s with horns on their heads, too.
Feelin a bit sentimental tonite?
*G*
Why not post the link?
More sedimental in my case.
Time for me to hit the happy hay. Thanks to Rayne for LN duty. Wishing a pleasant evening to all.
I’m trying to say that the Dilbert Principle isn’t.
The leaders of corporations have been elevated to roles that allow them to torch most of the global economy and corrupt the rest — witness AIG, Goldman Sachs, Halliburton, Blackwater, so on.
They end up in government as senators, presidents, advisers, cabinet members including secretaries of defense and treasury — like George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, John Snow, so on.
If there is a Dilbert Principle, it only applies to small business which is not part of the military-industrial complex or the financial industry.
g’nite rat
*waves to all*
OK, NOW I’m off the phone and everybody else in the house is tucked away and can pay full attention. Whew!
I’m in total Dilbert end-of-the-3rd-quarter-mode; GAH! Carving out blog time is a challenge!
Dang! – ta ta rattykins!
Wasn’t it the Christians that went into the Holy Land where the Muslims lived-you know-their homes and over centuries tried to conquer it? Just cause Xtians didn’t prevail they have this weird anxiety about Islam. Of course, seeing the buildings come down on 9-11 over and over and over didn’t help to change this anxiety. You would think that all 1.27 billion believers in Islam were in those airplanes.
Adams did limit the principle to (mostly) middle management.
I only ever worked for small to medium sized business and in my experience the incompetent fucks in middle management could do a lot of harm. I often described them as people who excelled at at nothing except shameless self-promotion.
In light of that I must conclude that the Dilbert Principle might be amusing satire but doesn’t accurately describe the real world. An alarming realization since I learned everything I know from cartoons. :)
Still fighting the Crusades…That’s exactly what I thought, too.
Must attract a certain kind of crazy.
You learned a lot, though, must read a diversity of cartoons! ;-)
Having worked for three Fortune 100 corporations, will tell you that us corporate drone-types loved Dilbert. There are so many permutations of pointy-haired boss out there it boggles the mind. Oh, and evil Dogberts and Catberts abound. I think I actually married Dilbert, sans glasses.
But having worked for some doozy CEOs of same corporations, must say Dilbert Principle isn’t an absolute law. It’s more of method for the really evil who rise to the top to move their weaker competitors out of the way. You can so see Cheney doing it, can’t you? That’s exactly how he managed to get himself selected as Veep.
I was avoiding the seriousness of Dogma by going all Dogbert. But now I’ll let it rip!
These frikking Dogmatists, by which I mean have one part of belief but about 1,000 parts of dogma are, recipe freaks, who just want their favorite ingredients in the cake we’re all supposed to eat.
They can take their whacko, dehumanizing, women subjugating, gay fearing, science hating, universe-made-in-six-days, minority bashing, Southern Strategy, supply sider, tax freak, tea party, jihad, apartheid, control freaky bullshit and put it where their lunar cycle calendar dictating of events don’t shine, and I mean the LOT of them!
I got news for them – they left that frikking cake out in the rain! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfL7Gk7Fpes
yep.
Amy Ridenour, perhaps?
The woman should be in prison, it’s amazing how she escaped the Abramoff “prosecutions” such as they were.
Here is a good resource for keeping track of these neocon hate groups. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t use it today as the links beyond the home page seem to be under some kind of attack. I have notified them. http://www.rightweb.irc-online.org/
That Boykin is one pig-eyed sack of shit. He and his ilk have done more damage to the US than bin Laden himself.
