John McCain’s campaign for president is moving into the stretch run.
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Friedman, Kristof and Rich in a surprisingly depressing collection. MoDo says “The Poodle Speaks,” and writes about Tony Blair on W., Dick and the mess they made in Iraq. The Moustache of Wisdom is a bit pettish and snappish today. In “Superbroke, Superfrugal, Superpower?” he snaps that America has gone from being the world’s superpower, with guns and butter for all, to being the frugal superpower. He says to get used to it. Thanks, Tommy, you butthead. Mr. Kristof addresses “America’s History of Fear,” and says hysteria about Islam is but a modern echo of past American worries about Catholics, Jews and others. Mr. Rich says “Freedom’s Just Another Word,” and that President Obama’s bloodless speech on the “end” of the Iraq war showed how the whitewashing of our recent past is well under way.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got French toast made with challah and a hint of cinnamon. I’m off to feed the porch kittehs, have another cup of tea, and then I’m seriously considering crawling into a hole and pulling it in after me for the rest of the day. Have a great one.
Oops. Just shoot me now.
Thanks, Elliott, and Marion, and who needs school? since they teach you how to think and that makes us dangerous?
Chris Matthews concludes what you tho’t he would, Pres.O. is the superego, so he earned the superblame. Nyah, nyah, and his invitation didn’t get there yet.
Forget the past ten years, see, that’s just quaint when we’re sitting around telling what we prefer to hear.
I want someone to write an honest piece (like Rich?) that the USA is not a country of peace. Get on with a little truth. Good Morning.
Hooray!! McFlightsuit the 2nd. is on Faux. Has it really been two weeks since he lied his ass off on the sabbath?
People around the world already know that, with the exception of large swaths of the U.S. public of course.
As we send manufacturing jobs abroad, the military is becoming the job market, as well.
Rich is right and after Mr. Bipartisan’s failure to hold the previous administration accountable, his doubling down on Afghanistan and his high praise of GWB he is the Whitewasher in Chief. The most duplicitous politician in U.S. history.
Yep…I am quite interested in this country “getting it”. Maybe by example Powell and Bremer could go to do serious rebuilding in Iraq. Along with W, of course.
If anyone would prefer listening to honest discussion turn off the tube with it’s pampered and privileged Beltway Brahmans and listen to Jessie Jackson’s call in radio program, “Keep Hope Alive.” No BS or propaganda.

I wonder if they’re going to bring up Rick Scott?
Good morning everyone. Anyone going to the 10/02/10 rally in D.C.? I’m making plans right now. If things work out (and they should) I’ll be there.
Any links on the rally?
I’m seriously considering it.
I believe Ed Schultz has all the info on the 10/02/10 rally.
here”s one:

Really need to listen to “Keep Hope Alive.” They’re taking it to Obama!
http://620kpoj.com/main.html
I woke up with six emails from the Center for American Progress in my inbox, none of which had a subject. Either their system’s been hacked or they’ve resorted to sending out spam to tell us all how wonderful Obama is. Obviously I didn’t open them because the former is the most likely.
And P.S. why does firefox not think that “inbox” is a word? But then I see that firefox doesn’t even think that firefox is a word…
Thanks.
Don’t think I can be there, tho. I’m going to D.C. tomorrow, tho.
I found those too — Gmail sorted them into my Spam folder, and I simply deleted them without opening them.
I have a separate Gmail addy that I use when I sign petitions and it’s amazing how many emails I get from liberal websites as a result. I go in every few weeks and just delete them. I had more than 100 last night.
See a bunch of you this afternoon. Take it easy. Outta of here…B
Remember before the Glen Beck rally when they called marches lame? Hmmm, must be another example of IOKIYR. Nonetheless, I thank him for making rallies meaningful.
Yeah, I never open untitled emails, especially when I get a whole lot from the same place all at once. Their server must be infected.
Good morning all.
Did I see correctly? ONE union rep on Labor Day weekend? Unions have been truly castrated.
Out on the road today,
I saw a BLACK FLAG sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice Inside my head said,
“Don’t look back. You can never look back.”
I thought I knew what love was
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but-
Thanks for Henley, Elliot. Seems like a lot more is over than just summer, doesn’t it?
That’s not all. I have a project for you tomorrow. Everybody who gets out and about on Monday should look around. You’ll see store clerks working and home builders and there will be many manufacturing places open tomorrow. Not for the bosses though, just for the workers with just enough supervision to keep them at it. Labor Day was designed for the workers but like everything else, management has usurped it and now people who actually do labor will be the only ones working on Labor Day.
Sorry. Pet peeve of mine.
For something completely different:
“: Cindy chats on Liberty Radio with Scott Horton of Antiwar.com, a site devoted to the cause of non-interventionism and followed by libertarians, pacifists, leftists, “greens,” and independents alike, as well as by many on the Right who agree with the opposition to imperialism. This is not just an idea from the political left.”
http://cindysheehanssoapbox.com
Got that right.
I listen to every single Scott Horton interview on antiwar.com. It’s the single best source for informative news on U.S. foreign policy. Horton is a libertarian, so he sometimes goes off on that subject, which people here may find offputting. But when it comes to subjects like, for example, every jot & tittle of how the U.S. has f’d up Somalia, you can’t beat Scott Horton. And he has guests from all over the political spectrum, including the other Scott Horton (intl human rights expert who is leading the investigations of the ‘suicides’ at Gitmo by self-strangulation followed by hanging themselves with their hands tied behind their backs; Glenzilla, etc.
Labor Day was a creation of the Fed. gummint because the thought of U.S. workers marching in solidarity with workers around the world on May Day was just too frightening.
Mornin’, Elliott, pups
I’ll be in Gainesville next Saturday with St Pete for Peace and a number of churches and other groups to hold a vigil at the scheduled Qu’ran burning. I understand the church was denied a permit to have a fire on their grounds but the church says they’re gonna do it anyway so this should be interesting. Civil disobedience works both ways.
I’d tried listening, but the subject had switched to Detroit–and the proposed downsizing of the city, and not one of them had a clue as to what they were talking about. The mayor and others in Detroit want to pull the population into denser residential areas in order to deliver services and utilities more efficiently. Jackson was going off on some notion that Detroit was somehow giving something away or somehow “gentrifying.”
I love participating in May Day celebrations with my big red flag.
I’m going to try to be there.
Where are you coming from?
Detroit and New Orleans are the canaries in the mine of U.S. urban and economic policy.
Wonderful!
Looking forward to your reports. Hope you all show up with fire extinguishers.
Morning everyone
The book burning is beginning to have a very negative impact on public opinion around the world.

A small town midway between Syracuse and Albany.
I hope you outnumber the book burners 100 to 1 !
Millions are disappearing from the unemployment rolls as they stop job search
On Jobs, U.S. Now Ranks Worse Than Similar Nation
For many unemployed workers, jobs aren’t coming back
Happy Labor Day.
I’m coming from Mass. thinking of taking the train.
I gotta find a place to stay, and I don’t know a thing about the area
Well… they’ve been giving these canaries CPR instead of fresh air.
I’m ab0ut 6-7 hrs away. Plan on leaving from work Wednesday, drive a few hrs and stay somewhere cheap. Arrive in DC Thursday and enjoy the Capital for a couple of days before the rally.
I plan to use Priceline’s ‘Name your own price’ for a hotel in DC. Amazing bargains.
Try Code Pink, they had some facilities not long ago anyway;

wingnuts not quite getting the concept of redbaiting.

heh I was born and raised there and the last time I was there couldn’t find my way around. That was pathetic.
I got an e-mail from the DNC today , a survey they asked me to fill out. So I did, the survey also asked 3 questions.
I gave them plenty to read this morning and it sure wasn’t good!
Screw the Dems. Are they really any different than the Repubes? The only difference is a D instead of an R
OK….. done venting now!
At the Lincoln Memorial last Vet’s Day, had a problem because you no longer can drive all the way around it and take the bridge to Arlington Cemetery. So many roads closed off.
you’ll appreciate echidne’s list
Would it be better to stay outside of the City and commute?
I thought of driving but was afraid of getting stuck in a massive traffic jam. Can’t afford to take more than a day or two off right now.
A D is an R without legs.
No idea. I’m taking my GPS and hoping for the best. Will probably get lost.
That’s right on. Heard a clip from Obama’s radio address yesterday. Too bad his words don’t translate into action. Telling the working class how important they are while cutting them down at the knees.
Missing: Fire Obama.
There are buses being used to bring people in. I don’t want to go that route. It’s so far that I thought I’d make it a vacation but if my plans don’t work out, I’ll look into one of the buses.
Sounds a lot like what I wrote
The Tea Baggers aren’t the only ones who are angry.
I’m hoping that millions show up,geez all we’d need is a small percentage of the unemployed to show up and we’d have millions
Metro connects with some rail stations;

Should be many motels in those areas.
and a spine like a wet noodle
Has anyone been watching Amanpour? How’s she doing?
She’s an improvement but needs to free herself from the Villagers; I like think that rather than come in guns blazing, she’s working on incremental change –I could be wrong
I’ve seen a couple pieces that say that the reichwingers don’t like how she holds their feet to the fire when they come up with their stupid shit.
Good.
G’morning Elliott, eCAHN and friends !
Namaste SD !
well you stagger in late ;)
et un beau matin de vous
Namaste Petro!!
Almost got Caturday done for today. Got pancakes on da brain but am prolly gonna settle for French toast. Lazy.
This is good news. Keep the faith.
Namaste
I also think Amanpour is starting out in a good direction. She is so capable and I have to say I found little to criticise and much to admire about today’s round table.
