SUZE!
ooops. did i scare everyone away by yelling?
NDFG! how’s your garden?
sorry …. please come back!
naw, they either don’t know its up or are watching the toon….
not bad, but fall is here :tantrum: so i spent today photoshopping a map for my mom.
No!
hey Suz, ndfg
Evening folks. Here’s a song for Jesse James.
feels like fall here too — tis a crispness in the air that the sun can’t chase away
hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight?
hey mr why — how ya doing tonight?
I’m not bitching, because we finally got some summer weather here.
But I’m glad it cooled off slightly.
You all fog and wind up there?
sunshine to everyone’s surprise (including the weather dood)! supposed to be cloudy tomorrow and then possibly rain…
sunshine blue skies
It got crisp here today. I got all into Go Buckeyes! mode for half a second, and I hate football.
hey margot — thank goodness ya snapped outta it! how’s your holiday weekend?
Howdy, folks!
hey loohoo — how’s socal tonight?
Great, hope yours is too?
Hi Loo Hoo, NDFG, Newton, everyone.
September Song (willie nelson)
september (earth wind & fire)
Margot – wanted to say hey – this was such a cool link you dropped last night
What a great cartoon! I’d missed that one.
It’s still really comfy temperatures here. Hot from noon to fourish.
autumn leaves
Good evening, Suzanne, how’s your lovely bay tonight?
We’re having cooler weather tonight, after some swell sunshine today; Art in The Pearl all weekend, spent lots of the day with my fellow (!) Portlandians enjoying terrific art in the North Park Blocks. You recall the area? We walked there from our diner lunch?
glad ya liked it loohoo
hey teddy – how did you like your first art in the pearl? i do remember our walk through the pearl — fondly :)
Do You Remember, baby, last September?
see you in september
I had to go play it again..what a gift he had!
Now that it September, 2010, Colin Powell speaks truth.
frankie
neil
Then there’s the sad September event…
His deputy Lawrence Wilkerson has been tending this ground for years for him.
too bad powell didn’t speak out when it mattered — i lost so much respect for him
He could have been the difference if he walks out and finds the nearest camera.
he had the camera when he gave that forking report to the united nations
Hi Suzanne and everyone.
hey wigwam — how ya doing tonight?
More than one – that may well have been the widest broadcast of any UN session to date.
Me too. I had actual question marks in my mind when Powell made his presentation. What’s ever become of Scott Ritter???
no kidding. imagine how different life could have been if he had told the truth when the truth mattered
I certainly don’t remember a televised UN session before. Or since.
For inappropriate reasons, I had a great deal of respect for Powell at that time. In fact, I had a picture of my wife and me with Powell hanging on our family room wall.
I respected him mostly for his “Powell doctrine”:
So, I expected that those criteria had been met before he recommended invasion of Iraq. God, was I a fool. And, that was the second time, because I bought into the Bay-of-Tonkin bullshit.
Shame on me!!
When Powell became the SoS pick, I breathed a sigh of relief – at least there’s an adult to keep the wacko’s from running off and doing something crazy.
Shame on me, too.
beginnings
me three
he was the only one i trusted to keep a reign on those fuckers and instead he let himself be used and tossed under the bus as his reward for going along
Holy smokes, good one!
A few weeks before the invasion of Iraq, a business associate of mine, who lived over in Escondido and died about three months ago, challenged me on my comment to her son that I felt we should probably go into Iraq and take away Saddam’s “toys.” She suggested that I should look up the stuff that Scott Ritter had written, etc.
In fact, I did so. I went through everything, including his sealed indictments for child molestation, or whatever, which I realized at the time might be trumped up. Where my logic failed was my faith in the integrity of the New York Times, and my misplaced faith Bush was listening to his father and his father’s advisors, who had recommended and decided against invading Iraq in 1991.
Thank you. That makes me feel a lot less stupid.
Evenin’ everyone.
Suzanne, yesterday I was going through some old negs and found a set I did at your bay back in the 70′s! Didn’t remember even shooting them!
Very cool evening tonight. Great sunshine. 20% chance of rain tomorrow.
hey starbuck — how cool! i imagine it still looks a lot like it did back then — how ya doing tonight?
Scowcroft got no run at all, or just enough to keep him bottled up thinking he was getting through.
Poppy shows it in his face – he is simply mortified.
I don’t even want to think about Powell, except for Powell’s Book Store, and it isn’t Colin.
Time to go back and look again, this time with the digital. The earlier ones are b&w as well.
Arabs were treated the best ever in American during Poppy’s presidency. In fact, I trashed my entire I/P book shelf in (absurd) confidence that that bullshit was behind us. Silly me.
OMG, I missed this entirely. via wiki:
Another September…
give me a hollar when ya do and we can snag a cup
I remember reading that Powell said, “I’m not reading this, this is bullshit.”
Your on!
*sigh* i don’t think we are gonna hit the 100 tonight…..
OMG. More Ritter.
How did I miss this?
A Sunday Smile
I do as well.
Wilkerson described it as, paraphrasing, ‘a Chinese menu – pick whatever you can sell’ sort of thing.
Sure we will. Chin up! It’s been a slow day all around…holiday weekend, and everyone is just sick about the state of EVERYTHING!
Yup. IIRC, when I looked at that shit in early 2003, there was more than one incident, and both resulted in sealed cases. A conspriacy? A crazy guy? Certainly, the establishment has a motive here. How to judge it?
And then again, his proclivities don’t make him wrong on the question of WMD in Iraq. So what credibility do we give what he says vs what Judith Miller says. She and her colleagues are also well regarded experts. They’ve publshed books (“Germs”) about the research of Dr. Death herself whose germ-warfare threatens all of humanity.
And certainly, if we go in:
Good evening, Suz. Evening, pups. Fall will be in the air here in the Mountain West on Moday, acccording to the weathermen.
We will if I keep running off at the fingers.
And Wilkerson has been so sharply critical of BushCo that he is a complete outsider to their branch of the party. He is so brutal on Cheney, it is eye-popping.
hey pastfed — how ya doing tonight?
Wilkerson is an American hero. Bless him for speaking out.
I lost any and all respect for him after viewing the Un speech. He knew it was a bunch of lies. He dishonored his oath of office and his military oath with that speech. Worse, he betrayed our men and women in uniform with that speech; the direct result being 4600 dead and thousands of life-altering physical and mental casualties. Not to mention the millions of Iraqis dead, tortured, wounded and torn from their homes.
If he had any sense of honor, he would have *edited in moderation* after that speech.
***MODNOTE: let’s not go there please***
I never quite understood the idea of invading a country with weapons of mass destruction. Especially the troops weren’t given protective uniforms. And even if they had been,,,how do you survive in 115 degree heat in them??
Ah, here it is – Wilkerson brings out the pick-axe.
Wilkerson on Cheney, right out of the box.
Good, suz. It was in the 90′s today. Summer’s trying to hang on.
Hello, pfu!
I love Wilkerson. Wonder if there’s any chance he’ll run for office? Where does he live?
It turns out that he had no sense of honor. If you look at his involvement in the Mai Lai Massacre coverup, you’ll see that we should never have had any respect for him.
~~ModNote: Folks, we are just not going to go there.~~~
It was reading what Ritter had to say about the WMD issue that clued me into the whole Bush & Co. charade. Scott truly deserves a lot of gratitude, I for one sure am greatful to him for his honesty.
I don’t know. I think Powell was being the good military guy of following orders from his commander in chief. He may have been skeptical, but you don’t raise to his rank by bucking orders.
Hi. Loo Hoo. Good to see you, how’s the San Diego weather lately?
It was a blast — people here are so NICE.
And the art was very charming.
I am regretting the sauerkraut I had on my polish sausage, though. I know better, but I simply cannot resist!
Per the Wikipedia:
I don’t know where he lives. But if he is half as smart as I think he is, he will stay as far away from electoral politics as is humanly possible.
It used to be a swamp. It is now a cesspool.
it was a strange kinda culture shock when i moved up here — i’m sure i was going on and on about how nice everyone is but it really did startle me.
Agreed. Thank you.
What Poppy is mortified about is that W soiled the bed for Jeb, and he won’t get to be pappy to two preznits. Maybe not.
And, we’re hosed unless we can get bright and good people to dive in.
You may be right about that.
I would not call Poppy a ‘patriot’ in the classic sense, but he is a sharp enough tool to know when one of his offspring has shit the bed for the family name.
Which not coincidentally would make him the most lustful benefactor of the historical rewrite they are attempting.
Good sauerkraut is indeed irrestible. And yes, it does leave a bit of trauma behind.
I imagine there will be a Legacy Project for W just as there was for Reagan — look at their pushback on the Iraq War this week! By 100 years from now, Americans may conflate the two Bush presidencies (let’s hope there are only two!) and recall them, together, much more fondly than they should.
Guess I’d never have made a good general, then. The right choice was obvious – Let’s see, do I tell the lie that my criminal commander in chief and his sociopath vp & cabinet good want, or do I save millions of lives by refusing to do so?
A good military commander does not sacrifice his soldiers for a lie.
Pretty cut and dried if you ask me.
It’s not funny, perhaps amusing is the word:
The GOP in Congress is pounding the crap out of 43 on domestic issues except for the tax cuts, and telling anyone who will listen that Obama needs to genuflect when 43′s name is spoken for the wars he has in front of him.
Weather’s been incredibly cool this summer. Unusual…
I had a wonderful reuben yesterday!
oh lardy, i’ve tried but i just can’t stay awake any longer folks. sorry to bail early. thank you for letting me hang with ya tonight
g’nite and have a great holiday weekend (yay labor!)
Where? Max’s up here has gone waaaay down hill… :-(
nite suz
Good Lord. Do not let there be a Jeb Bush presidency.
Nite Suz
When I was young, I ordered a reuben sandwich once, not knowing that sauerkraut was part of the it. Love corned beef, but can’t take the sauerkraut…
Nite, Suz. Have a great Sunday and Labor Day.
NDFG!
My heroess.
*G*
I believe that without the correct proportion (read mountain) of Russian dressing, the kraut is a little dominant.
It’s a new place in Vista called the Yellow Deli. It’s owned by a religious organization…kind of a cult, I guess…where everyone has a speciality and gives it to the church. They have a farm in Escondido, so all of the meat, veges, eggs etc. are from the farm. The place is absolutely beautiful, all built by the church. Everyone does their part.
Makes me want to be a hippie again.
Sweet dreams, Suz. Hope you get a holiday weekend!
Any Pups still up?
I Got A New Diary Up.
Festing, Camping, Labor Day
I got another one coming Sunday about Sauces, and Food Sunday stuff.
Hope all y’all will tune in to both.
And now, back to Suz’s LLN, and HER stuff!
*G*
Cuz she rulez.
*G*
Gawd, that place is a dream. The sandwich must have cost a fortune!
Happy 100, Loo Hoo!
Good evening, Larue. You just missed Suz.
I love it. It’s a love/hate thing. Really, sauerkraut is nothing more than cabbage sliced and laid out on butcher paper with lots of salt applied. Really easy to make, though I only did it once because the “aroma” is significant!
Dang, she’s one of the best.
I’ll have to catch up with her at her place.
awww *blushes* i got absorbed in cleaning up an old map in photoshop, i musta felt the outrageous compliment vibes thru the ethers.
oh my, i also love sauerkraut. Putting a lot of caraway seed in it helps with digestion.
I think it was $6.50. Came with homemade chips and pickle. The inside of the building is just as incredible. Every detail is complete. Just like nothing I’ve ever seen. The bread is homemade, and even the cola and root beer is homemade. Incredible. It’s like I’ve stepped back in time and forward in time simultaneously!
Thanks!
Flavor too, I bet!
Escondido.
Where John Hartford sang of avacado’s whilst sittin on their hills.
Or was that someone else.
Hadda be someone else.
Hartford was from Ohio.
Escandido was not in his mind.
Who wrote a song about eating avacado’s from a bag in Escondido?
?
How ya doin, ma’am?
*G*
Hard to believe. I just read a sauerkraut recipe – amazing process.
I’ll make it a point to read your post later on. Looks interesting.
The making of a good Reuben, is an artform.
I won’t got too deep into it, aside from the marbled rye, home made pastrami, mama’s sourkraut recipe, and the origin of the DRESSING used.
No, I won’t get into all that.
*G*
*tummygrowlinindangit*
one of my aunts makes a big crock of sauerkraut every year. I am a lucky farmgrrrllll when she gives me a couple of jars.
The Labor Day Post is a hoot.
I’m an avid picker, sanger, fester and foodie.
The Holiday’s brang me to my dreams and delights.
*G*
This holiday, is fuckin killin me.
I’m not there, now.
LeSigh.
*stillbitchenafterallthesemonths*

*G*
Well Teddy, you have the Polish Festival to look forward to (very authentic) at the end of Sept, but before that you have the various Octoberfests. Don’t miss the Mt Angel version.
Lots of kraut, and potato pancakes and, and…..
ok larue, here’s another. our local boys, Trampled by Turtles, playing The Darkness and the Light on that Blue Plate Special show.
That Strawberry Music Fest looks like a good time. Recognize some of the names – Railroad Earth (have a CD of theirs); Ryan bingham & Dead Horses (just read a review on him, he’s playing locally – I think last night). Seen Eliza Gilkyson at Moab Folk Music Festival about 8 years ago. And of course, Arlo. Seen him about 6 years ago at a loal amphitheater – actually got to meet him briefly.
I forgot the Verboort Sausage festival. First weekend in Nov.
I did not buy any of that sales pitch ans was especially hot to hear him Carry Bush’s baggage to the UN that day. The whole run up to the wars was a dog and pony PR show, The general that ran the Desert Storm Swartzkoff warned us too.
In the ME countries setting up one group over another like trying to get Ms Bhutto elected in Pakistan or setting up Shites in Iraq is insanity by definition. Destabilise and terrorise is the USA policy (Honduras and on and on) Just please read
Naomi Klien the rise of Disaster Capitalism. Any good person can be turned with pressure and money. It is Capitalisms business plan to take resources to keep the engines of industry rolling. It is the religion of the last two centuries Ike called it the Military Industrial Complex. It runs on wars and Isreal is our partner.
evening, Suz – firegoogles
We are not going to the truth? What has FDL come to? What are ruke MOD guidelines? Millions died because Powell lied. Where did he go there?
I am presenting our local Board of Supervisors with an award as they are big on giving awards. It will be a large bar of Ivory soap on a plaque..The liars award. By the way it’s not that I am an anti war activist its that the vile low life acts that take place in a war are reprehensible and used to intimidate and decimate those that don’t support your contentions as the maker of war. I read the war stories in history book in Junior High for Pete’s sake so did everyone else. Shame on anyone that support genocide it is inhumane bad karma. The USA security machine knew the 9/11 attack was imminent and let it happen we trained the freakin pilots!!!
Hi PDCUS how’s are things with you? Good I hope.
Hi bb. The mod’s note was not about curtiling discussion on Powell’s culpability, it was in response to my comment at 73 about what Powell should have done after his betrayal. The mod was right to edit my comment, in keeping with FDL policy.
I guess the honorable Japanese have deserted that practice long ago. I went out for a 70 minute row in the fog. Ahisa, doing no harm, is a wonderful standard. Thank you for the clarification. I woke up at One and read the comments and am grateful that Wigwam, Newt and others have realized they can be taken in…the Devil is a shrewd and cunning spirit that can lull you then jump your reason that is why we all have to be always alert. The media has a fog of distractions to mislead us consciously for their masters purposes. En Garde vigilance or destruction. We are watching our world of freedoms desimated in our own time. The following gens have to live a restricted life.
When I do a hard work out I wake up in the night and have to eat had some so food will say pleasant dreams. Peace
