He’s got a shot, thanks to The Quitter’s purge of Murkowski.
A new snapshot of the Senate race in Alaska, taken in the hours after Sen. Lisa Murkowski conceded the GOP nomination, shows Joe Miller running six points ahead of his Democratic rival, Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams.
The Rasmussen survey of likely voters shows Miller, a lawyer who is backed by Sarah Palin, with 50% of the vote and McAdams with 44%. The poll has a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.
And that’s Rasmussen, so it’s probably even closer.

What I love is that Miller the Twit has already spent $600,000 of Koch’s money while McAdams hasn’t had more than a few thousand to spend until this week – and McAdams is still within striking distance.
This is our chance to flip off the Kochtopus, the GOP, and the corporate/Emanuel wing of the Dems all at one stroke!
Oh, goodie. I’m kind of in the mood to flip someone off. Hiya PW!
Oh but vote for Miller because Democrats have been so ineffective! Even though McAdams hasn’t been a part of that. Even though he has never cast a vote with national implications, he’s got that D and we’re punishing everyone with a D. Aren’t we?
/s
Oh, so going with that argument, I should vote for Meg Whitman instead of Jerry Brown? I don’t think so. And, ugh, she’s ahead in the most recent poll. Double ugh.
Mornin’, BT, pups
Fillin’ in, are ya? LOL
Well, I DID include the snark tag. :)
Netanyahu and Abbas to Begin Direct Mideast Peace Talks
What a crock.
With Bibi the Butcher and the rest of the Zionists peace will only come to the Middle East when there are no more Arabs.
I just signed up to be a volunteer for Jerry Brown. I hope they call me. Gots to stay out of trouble here. :)
So what did you think of the debate last night? I think Carly “No American has a God-given right to a job” Fiorina is real piece of work…
I didn’t watch it. Do you think it’s available on line?
Who else was there?
Nevermind, I just found it. As much as I heard a lot of complaints about Boxer, there’s no way I’ll vote for Carly. Nope.

How long before Mexico becomes another Somalia?
Barbara Boxer
Smarmy unctuous Evan Bayh on my teevee this ayem…’til I turned the channel. Be afraid Democrats, its a ginormous tsunami of big wavitude this election year and Evan….
Hey, wait a minute, he’s the guy Obama didn’t pick for veep. Couldn’t have a little grudge damping-down, now could we?
Hey, at least the teabaggers will have a Libertarian Utopia in this hemisphere to tempt them.
So Whitman is ahead right now? I guess the $100 Million Plus of personal cash that this megalomaniac has spent so far has had some effect. She’s got another $50 Million of her own money on reserve. This doesn’t include the Citizen’s United cash that will undoubtedly flow in, either. We need to press hard for actual real debates. Brown will chew her up and spit her out…but he can’t do that unless debates happen.
Ooooh. Boxer gets a good one in right off the bat.
When she was ceo of hewlett packard, before she was terminated, actually, she shipped 30,000 jobs overseas. Ah, ha!
Mogadishu was a terribly poor and backwards place, even before it was torn apart by warfare. We went there in Early 80 and it was bad. Really no comparison to Mexico, even now. A rational Drug Policy here would go a long way to curing what ails Mexico. Of course, a bit of financial equality would do wonders, as well…
Um…another 15 minutes to half-an-hour?
Evan Bayh = Dan Quayle. And people badmouth Texas voters…
On democracynow they’re doing a segment about pay & leave rights for home workers (nurses’ aides & nannies) in NYS. (Disclosure: Think I would have been in compliance with new law decades ago when I employed a nannie.)
Now, if they’d left employers deduct expenses, that would be a help too.
Is Brown campaigning at all?
Surely the Kock brothers will be kicking in a chunk of change not to mention the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
I think, since he has such a smaller campaign fund, it’ll be good to spend it more at the end.
And smirking, smarmy little Billy Kristol will have another country to recommend that we attack. Gotta burn down the village to save it, doncha know…
Appears to be keeping his powder dry.
Does Mike Gravel still live in Alaska? If so, he’d be a good write-in candidate.
That’s one way of putting it.
I’ll let you know when the campaign calls/emails me. I don’t watch local tv shows, so, there may be commercials. Dunno. Haven’t seen any campaign signs out yet. i signed up for phone banking and admin work. I don’t know that I’d be good at door to door. I might punch people.
Let’s not forget the multi nationals that dumped toxic waste in and offshore of Somalia, (and almost certainly still are). To take away an already desperately poor nation’s only asset in the name of saving a few bucks is particularly loathsome. I’ll never understand the mind of a greedy person. Of course Christianity gives them a way out because all they have to do is renounce all of their misdeeds and accept Jesus on their deathbeds and all is forgiven!
This should make Carly happy. From Naked Capitalism:
Having Hollowed Out IT in the US, Indian Outsourcers Complain Re Difficulty of Finding US Staff
Jerry Brown asked Whitman to debate up to 10 times this summer, but Whitman refused (chicken!!). I think E-Meg has deigned to debate Brown 2 or 3 times this fall. Brown has been holding back on much advertisting until after Labor Day, due to the fact that he has much less $$$ money to spend than Emperess Meg. We shall see.
When they debate, Brown will crucify E-Meg. I think Brown has a good chance, thankfully. Otherwise, CA’s going down even more.
Get outcher boxing gloves!
I think FDL needs to do a bit more writing on that failed state just across the southern border. Lots of meat there. Just my opinion…and you know what they say about opinions, heh…
Bloody Bill will be for attacking Mars if he saw a buck in it for himself.
The Feds are never gonna give up the War on Drugs, regardless of what the states do. Don’t want to put all those DEA folks outta work now do we?
I like the way you think. Kicking works too, by the way…
Yup…and that nauseating smirk would never leave his face, either.
Hmph! Perry is still refusing to debate Bill White and I can’t help but wonder if there would be more squawking from the media of their positions were reversed.
He didn’t want to demoralize us before the election, just after.
We ought to dress little Billy up in a green suit and let him play General right out front of all of our Soldiers! He can have can even have a sword (unsharpened, of course) and take the point with his body instead of his mouth for a change. We all know how fearless he is, unlike us cowards on the left, who lack the resolve necessary to “Make the hard choices”…
Legalize weed and put them to work in a bong factory…or maybe let them do a little harvesting?
Just sayin’…
I read somewhere recently (prolly the section of American Theocracy on oil) that Somalia has oil, and the U.S. ‘humanitarian’ relief efforts of earlier years were a thinly disguised excuse to get the U.S. military on the ground there. Can’t speak to the truth or falsity of that report, but it wouldn’t be surprising if true.
Thanks for volunteering. If memory serves me, I don’t think Brown has run many/any campaign ads, although the Unions have run some kinds of ads that don’t count (somehow) as real campaign ads – it’s in what/how they say the message. So there have been some Brown ads on tv, although nothing like E-Meg’s overblown, unending ads.
I think Brown is also somewhat counting on Meg’s overspending to start making the voters mad at her. Part of Brown’s approach so far is to tout what a lavish spender she is. Plus there’s been stuff about her dubious relationship with Goldman Sachs.
Official narco thuggery….too big to fail.
Yep. Or, practice some martial arts moves. Plus, I’d get to vocalize. EEEE-ya!
Like he’d ever agree to that! Like the Bush chickenhawks, they could “do more good for the country by remaining behind”. I used to give out Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force recruiters’ cards to Iraq war chickenhawks I ran across. Gave away a whole lot of them.
Turning this senate seat to (D) would be poetic justice for taliban Sarah and her contemptible tea party.
They must not have found much. If they had, we would have stayed.
Or Blackhawk down…
I forgot about that debate and accidentally tuned in right at the very, very end of it. I’m less thrilled with Boxer these days, but I simply cannot abide Fiorina. I own HP securities; Fiorina ran HP into the ground and stocks plummeted. Why Rethugs think Fiorina’s this great “business mind” is beyond me. HP shareholders got the joy of paying off this incompetent millions to leave the company.
Now Fiorina wants to get on the public dole via a cushy Senate job + excellent benefits, so that she can downtrod the voters and scratch the backs of her wealthy pals. UGH!!!!
I got into a lot of confrontations with military age chickenhawks at BayWalk through the years. Each one had more excuses of why they couldn’t join the military than Carters’ got pills.
Yeah…. they’re good at that. Just make sure to take away their matches first.
Handing out recruiters’ cards sure shut them the f*ck up around Austin.
I saw you mention chicken Perry’s refusal to debate, and I thought immediately about chicken E-Meg. E-Meg hides behind her million$$$ of ill-gotten gains bc she knows she’ll fail in any debate with Brown.
Well, Good Morning to you and all….I’ll try to be nice.
Wish I’d have thought of that.
And when the inevitable question about why I wasn’t serving came up and I pointed out that I already had, that provided an even more effective baffle to their faces.
A blast from the past.
On edit: I embedded a link in Carter’s pills, which seems not to show up inside quotes, but I think it’s clickable.
Comes out without even thinkin’ about it. *g*
You can catch the whole thing here.
Worked like a charm. Hand them an Army card and when they throw it back in your face, suggest the Navy might suit them better and hand them one of those. Or Air Force. Or Marine Corps. Those people didn’t have a teaspoon full of guts among the whole lot of them.
I resemble that.
Almost anytime the USA provides “humanitarian aid” to some poor nation, you can bet the underlying motive is to rip them off in some way. It used to be done (and sometimes still is) via “missionaries” who were sent in first to “soften up” the natives.
Somalia is such a mess, though, the numbers may not have panned out to make it worthwhile/profitable.
Only hugs for you, Bev.
These “people” like Miller creep me out that they are even in the races shows how far right this country is going.
I fear the some will slip thru while we’re not looking.
How did Palin get so much power?
McAdams better tighten up on his public speaking and stop saying “you know” so much. No, I don’t know, tell me.
‘Dragon’s great with metaphors. Nicknames too. I still laugh uproariously every time I hear the phrase “short ride”.
Thanks! Have you listened to it? Any summary?
Astonishing, isn’t it? I assume Palin is partly paid off by the Kochs, who seem to be the guiding hand behind the Tea Party. The Kochs have been searching for that “winning formula” for years, and it would appear that they’ve hit pay dirt, I’m sorry to say.
Yes, I’m learning that. Better to learn late than never.
As for development of Somalia’s oil, U.S. attention during Clinton got shifted to Balkans and putting in military bases there to protect pipeline routes.
I’ve only know one person from Sitka and she said that a lot too. I wonder if it’s a regional colloquialism?
I started to read the transcript. The mister’s watching Washington Journal, so I’ll have to wait until later to listen.
Gosh, I’m excited. I hope the Brown campaign calls me. Action being the antidote for despair. Without a job, I’m getting really bored, antsy, cabin fever.
Why thank you….got it. I’d sure like to see an answer to Kassandra’s Palin question? We can blame her start on McCrazy, but not the power of her appeal. Yikes…Of course, I didn’t understand Nixon or Reagan, either.
She quit being governor and went out on a paid speaking tour. She makes the other plastic talking heads look brilliant. The perfect spokesmodel. While not very bright, she’s easily controlled.
i hope they call you soon bc I’m sure you’ll do a good job. Have you thought about volunteering at a food pantry? I’ve done that and found it very worthwhile, and usually they’re always needing volunteers. Just a thought. Best to you.
Nicknames come from all those years in the Navy. Everything had a nickname. On an LST everything was a “you-all” and you knew exactly what the other guy was talkin’ about. “Go get me a you-all.” Strangest thing.
I’m not an expert on anything, but, my feeling is that she appeals to a certain type of tea bagger. As much as I dislike “generalizing”, when I’ve seen photos and interviews with those people, they don’t appear to have, um great self confidence. Now, along comes Sarah, with her hair and her outfits and her strong attitudes and she identifies with those people. And, they think, yeah, she speaks for Me! Something like that?
Well, the CIA gets most of it’s $$$$$ from importing illegal drugs. Probably (undoubtedly) part of the Afghan strategy.
so, no, I don’t think anything[s going to be legalized.
Martinez has opened her big mouth in NM and opined that medical marijuana should be illegal. So, I expect DEA raids on those facilities.
Martinez is so corporately funded, Diane Denish better start flapping her lips too.
The Citizens “Untied” thing is really going to have to go if we’re ever gonna have a real voice in this country again
Ah yes; forgot about that.
The missionary thing goes back centuries; was begun by the European imperialists. Like the Catholic missions in North & South America. Allegedly meant to “convert” the heathens (said heathens being treated mostly as slaves), but mainly a cover for the gov’t to ultimately grab the goodies (i.e., Inca gold, etc).
Same old, different century. Beware missionaries bearing Bibles…
They funded the anti christ’s rally, too, didn’t they? I figured Murdoch, but then found out it was the Cock brothers…with daddy’s money
Yes, I’ve been aware of how missionaries did a lot of the grunt work for colonial powers.
On edit: Don’t forget the Wahhabis bearing Korans, drumming up canon fodder for the jihad. Particularly important for U.S. ‘covert’ war after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
I just thought of something. Hugs, Not Thugs. I could set up a little booth and give hugs to people who promise to vote for Brown.
Conversion at the point of the sword and then, slavery.
sorta feels like it’s happening here too.
Don’t you’ll get all sorts of losers who just want to grope you. ;^)
Well said…I think someone wrote here about the confidence/know it all of sociopaths….convincing, I guess.
Good analysis. Plus Palin’s handlers have been very clever about co-opting the “feminist” label for Palin. There’s a wide swath of middle-aged Repub white women, who always feared and disliked the feminist movement because it’s so identified (mainly by the media) with such “sinful” things like abortion, gay rights, etc.
These white “Christianist” women want to think of themselves as Christian feminists though, so Palin really struck that chord, too. I see that with my siblings who always hated what I guess one could call “mainstream” (or liberal) feminism. Mind you, most of these women don’t work, but they want to identify as strong, independent types of women. Et voila: Palin. She doesn’t work, either, and gets paid LOT$ of money just to be Sarah. What a role model. Ding, ding, ding: a winner.
Or, maybe not losers…she cute.;)
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

Namaste
Did you see the college student interview video clip from Beck’s rally? Yikes.
Yes, same thing. Of course the Wahhabis bearing the Holy Q’uran just make it easier for the USA to identify them as “the enemy.” Why how convenient…
You’re too kind. (blushing)
Yesterday I heard Dr. Laura referring to “feministas”; not quite so bad as Rush, but certainly the attitude you are talking about. I am really surprised that has so much potency when there clearly have been changes and progress on behalf of women. And Sarah is such a hypocrit…she certainly is quite independent; not submissive, I’d opine.
No, my tolerance level is very thin these days.
Gotcha. You’ve heard of scary smart? That video was a good example of scary stupid.
RM did some excellent pieces last summer on the Koch’s funding of the Tea Party movement, esp the shrieking Town Hall junk. And yes, the Koch’s provided primary funding for the Beckerhead rally, but Pirate Murdoch provided loads of free advertising for it (at the least).
Father Koch was a big Bircher. The brothers Koch have been trying for years to gin up a movement to enable them (the Kochs) to rip off even more than they do now. Guess the ‘Baggers are only happy to assist the Kochs at grabbing even more resources and making even more money at the expense of the rest of us.
Loser bait for sure. Now she could restrict it only to wimmin………..
So hard to keep track. They used to be freedom fighters, now they’re emenies. Who coulda guessed.
I once got an email Q asked of a U.S. general on CNN, one of those ‘military’ advisers (aka pentagon propagandists) the cable networks use. It was: The short history of U.S. foreign policy is that our friends become our enemies and our enemies become our friends. What will happen with our current ‘friends’ in the ‘Stans?’ How soon before the U.S. runs into trouble with them?
Of course the general said the U.S. and the Stans were going to be BFF.
All those rightwing hate media personalities have spent the past 2+ decades dissing and deriding feminists. Remember how insanely hateful they all were about Hilary.
I think white “Christinist” women are conflicted though, esp those who are better educated. They clearly see the gains made for women via the feminist movement; many have daughters now in the workforce. So… the PTB had to find some kind of substitute role model for this crowd. And Sarah fills the bill.
Palin is a total hypocrit. But she’s like that awful Phyliss Schlafly creep, who alwasy dissed feminists and wanted all women to stay home barefoot, pregnant and submissive to their hubbies… except for her. It’s ye olde: do as I say, not as I do.
Yeah there was a “feminist”mole on HP the other day urging us to vote for wimmin regardless of their party affiliation. I notice she only pushed republican wimmin even if they are running against Dem wimmin.
We spotted her right away and sent her packing.
A Camille Paglia type. UGH
Well-said: Phyliss is a perfect example. Nice looking, etc and mean.
BFF? Your pop culture quotient is going up!
I’m off. Be well.
I think it may have been different in the days of yore – Ghengis Kahn & Alexander the Great. But these days it almost feels like it’s all manipulated “from above.” As in: there are no real enemies anymore. The PTB across the world just determine where the wars will happen bc it enriches the upper 3% worldwide.
Of course, there are some exceptions to that, such as Somalia, but not many. It’s all a big 3 Card Monty game, imo. Just to make $$$. No one cares who gets killed or how many; it’s irrelevant. Just about $$$.
I spend too much time online. *g*
Gonna start my day as well. Bee Good.
RevBev — you take care, dear.
Nice working with 20-somethings so I don’t get left behind and end up sounding like a fogey.
I’m all for supporting women candidates but not unconditionally just bc they’re female. GACK. Look at who we’ve discussed this morning running in CA: Fiorina? E-Meg Whitman? No thanks. Those 2 women will set back the lives and livelihood of poor and middle class women in CA (and elsewhere) if they get in power. That logic is specious. Good for sending that person packing!
I DO spend too much time online. Outta here, folks. Later. Have a great day and keep up the good fight!! And don’t let the bastards grind you down.
Har! Except when you say things like More than Carter has pills. Then, you’re nailed. Or, like Faster than Grant took Richmond. Or, Faster than butter melting in the sun.
I really like it when you’re brief. Lilk “Horse Shit!”.
Thanks for the good words today, you.
Glad to you’re still around….when I see your Namaste, I get the message that I am probably running late. See you folks later. B
According to McClatchy, Bayh is against letting the tax cuts for the wealthy expire — seems to think the rich will spend all of that extra money in this economy. Clueless. He is my senator and I loathe him.
Democrats unlikely to repeal tax cuts for the rich
I’m only verbose “live and in living colour” (NBC announcement when colour teebees were new over the NBC peacock spreading it’s tail). *g*
Yeah, well, I’m foot draggin’ and late. So are you. *g*
It’s a filler, like “um” only more annoying.
I’ve made it clear that I’m not voting for Democratic incumbents. But, like the folks who like to call me a nihilist, or not serious, or nuts, you’d rather belittle the argument than make a suggestion that’s even slightly less, um, nihilist, unserious, or nuts.
As for the race at hand, if McAdams is really a progressive, he’s worth supporting. If he isn’t, he’s on his own. And in the 117 comments here, I haven’t seen a single mention of what McAdam’s politics actually are.
“More progressive is better” is a good message to send, as long as we are actually sending it, rather than just voting out of fear.
