Glenn Beck’s various endeavors are so superficial and insincere it’s difficult to understand those who fall for his scams. America, of course, has a long tradition of hucksterism. We are a credulous folk, ready to believe in any old snake oil despite the fact that they always fail.

An Emerging Rupture in Iran |
| By: niloufar Sunday August 29, 2010 8:38 am |
With the predominantly foreign fantasy regarding a ‘Green’ Iranian revolution basically over, it is easier to focus attention on divisions within Iran’s dominant political factions. A rupture appears to be manifesting itself more and more between the followers of President Ahmadinejad and Supreme Leader Khamenei.

Yes, that is Sparky the Sun Devil and the small turd next to him is John McCain. As you may have heard, the Arizona primary was last Tuesday and McCain squeaked by the “serious challenge” of gasbag extraordinaire J.D. Hayworth. McCain beat Hayworth by 25 points; this and other news and notes from the Arizona primary election.
Disgust: on the Lonesome Rhodes Trail to Tortureville |

Glenn Beck has kept his promise to bring 100,000 plus “teabaggers” and other assorted right-wing and racist reactionaries to Washington, D.C. in a supposed commemoration of the 1963 March on Washington, which culminated in Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I have a dream” speech. the right-wing can mobilize tens of thousands and bring them to D.C., while the left is mired in electoralism, i.e., concentrate everything on elections, and leave the streets to the demagogues.

Late Night: All’s Changed, Changed Stupidly — A Fatuous Inanity Is Burped |

I didn’t watch or pay any attention at all to the Developing Story of the Glenn Beck Million MOPE* March, perhaps because I’m not a superannuated paranoid Caucasian crank afflicted with an overdeveloped persecution complex and uncomfortable underpants that constrict excitingly whenever I contemplate “socialism.” Why, I’m not remotely superannuated! (The rim, it is shot, execution-style.)
Loss of Hope for the Economy Spells Wrong Kind of Change for Democrats |
| By: Jon Walker Saturday August 28, 2010 7:00 pm |
After watching so closely Washington politicians argue like children, and line their donors’ pockets through technically legal corporate welfare programs, while generally ignoring the huge economic crisis at hand, I can’t blame any American for a lack of hope right now.
Does It Really Matter if the Republicans Take Back the House? |
| By: Jim Moss Saturday August 28, 2010 6:00 pm |
Something’s different about 2010. Try as I might, I’m having a hard time getting excited about the fall campaign. It’s not that the Democrats are now on the defensive, or that the Republicans have succumbed to the Tea Party lunacy, or even that all of the Congressional gains of 2006 and 2008 might be undone. What’s gotten me so indifferent is the growing realization that these miderms don’t really matter. And in retrospect, neither did 2006 nor 2008.
