After hearing Mr. Gibbs’ remarks about “the professional left” needing drug testing, my blood began to boil. This diary is an attempt to share a slice of the middle America pie which has valid complaints about the job left undone by President Obama. Sure, Obama has tried — but when you are bleeding to death, a bandaid is little comfort.

Gibbs’ Walk-Back: Clueless About “In America” |
| By: emptywheel Tuesday August 10, 2010 11:40 am |
In a piece that had a lot to piss me off, the suggestion that professional DC hack Robert Gibbs should lecture hippies about what people “in America” think of Obama’s economic policies was the worst.
Maybe that’s because I’m out here “in America” and I’m still seeing a shattered economy.

Well, this is depressing.
Tribalism is the Last Refuge of Political Scoundrels, Including Robert Gibbs |

Maybe Gibbs should stop and revisit some of those campaign speeches and ask himself if the guy in the oval office looks like the guy on the campaign trail. He might figure out why people are upset, and it’s not just the “professional left.” According to Gallup, Obama’s approval ratings among Hispanics was 73% in January of 2010 and is now at 54%. That’s largely over his failure to fulfill the promises he made about immigration.
Are they the “professional left” too?

Justice has been discarded in favor of political expediency at Guantanamo, as Judge Patrick Parrish has allowed Omar Khadr’s confessions to be admitted into evidence in his military commission trial. Included among the confessions is one obtained by convicted torturer Joshua Claus under threat of rape and/or death for the then 15 year old suspect.
Lightning Round: A Guide to the One-Day House Session |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday August 10, 2010 6:59 am |
The House will open for business at 10am EDT, for consideration of the state fiscal aid bill, which the Senate passed last week. The plan is to vote on the rule for the bill, then general debate, followed by a final passage “early in the afternoon.” It’s unclear whether the Republicans will offer a motion to recommit, but we know they are going to put forward a privileged resolution to give themselves a two-month vacation after the elections, lest the House actually work to pass legislation in the lame duck session. That will get a vote today as well.
A Win for Warren? Mistaking a Nomination for an Appointment |
| By: emptywheel Tuesday August 10, 2010 6:11 am |
Given what happened with Department of Justice OLC nominee Dawn Johnsen, a rumored nomination is a long shot from getting the position. Proponents of Elizabeth Warren for Consumer Financial Protection Bureau would best be skeptical and refrain from celebration until Warren has been confirmed.

At some point, you’d think some of this “time are tough, let’s help the rich” stuff would backfire on the GOP.
