The important election news so far tonight.

Attention Democrats: If you want to campaign on something that appeals to American voters across the political spectrum, how about campaign finance? Overwhelming majorities of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans believe that large corporations and their lobbyists have more control over our government than they do, and want to see candidates who will give us our government back.

We have primaries taking place in three states Colorado, Connecticut, and Minnesota. There is also a primary runoff taking place in Georgia. There is important top ticket races happening in all four states tonight. For information about all the races to watch tonight click here.

BP makes their money from drilling for, and selling, oil, and so their continued viability in running that business affects whether they have the cash available to pay out the $20 escrow fund for compensation to those hit by the oil disaster. But the deal between BP and the government apparently makes that explicit, and in particular their Gulf of Mexico drilling operations; future drilling revenues are BP’s leverage to permit more exploration and drilling.

By every measure, Cadet Katherine Miller has been an exemplary officer candidate. But because of the military’s discriminatory policy towards homosexuals, she resigned, and the Army lost exactly the sort of person it needs more of.

With relatively few defections from the caucus, House Democrats passed a bill providing $26.1 billion dollars to states for their Medicaid programs and education budgets, by a count of 247-161. All Democrats but 3 supported the bill, and all Republicans but 2 opposed it. The specific tallies will be released shortly.

Earlier, Democrats passed the rule on the bill with more Democratic defections, 229-173.

As I wrote earlier, if the White House is wondering why Americans are disappointed with Obama, it’s isn’t because of the criticisms of the “progressive left.” They can find the answer in the gap between what he sold himself as during the campaign, and the policies he has affirmatively pursued as President.
