The fight for marriage for gays and lesbians is gaining support in every state and even among prominent Republicans, and the National Organization for Marrriage rallies this summer have galvanized marriage equality advocates.
Climate Skeptic Bjørn Lomborg Reverses Himself on Climate Change |
| By: David Dayen Monday August 30, 2010 6:30 pm |
Bjørn Lomborg’s “friendly skepticism” of man-made global climate change obviously made him a target in the scientific community, but he also got a lot of mainstream pickup as the kinder, gentle face of denialism. Lomborg never specifically denied the existence of climate change, but accused proponents of exaggerations and said that mitigating the effects wasn’t worth the expense. That’s what has changed.
Specifically, Lomborg favors investment in clean energy, including R&D, and geoengineering options.
FDL Movie Night: Cowboys and Indians The Great Diversion |
| By: Lisa Derrick Monday August 30, 2010 5:00 pm |
Tonight’s filmmaker Danielle Agnello comes to us with two films, her first feature Lime Salted Love, a dark surreal look at loneliness and the things we do to avoid it and the dark secrets that got us there; and her just completed short Cowboys and Indians: The Great Diversion which shows up anti-immigrationists as morans.
Lime Salted Love was written and co-directed by Danielle who also co-stars in the film. It’s tragedy of love and secrets, very different from Cowboys and Indians which shows the idiocy of Tea Party/Minutemen types with their own words.

Koch Industries Has Financial Stake in Derivatives and Pharmaceuticals, Not Just Oil |
| By: David Dayen Monday August 30, 2010 2:30 pm |
Koch Industries and its two leaders, Charles and David, are not only out to destroy progressivism and restore Republican dominance in Washington, though that’s a side benefit. They are out to protect their company’s financial industries, which run the gamut of practically every major policy the Obama Administration has tackled this year.

| By: Kevin Baron Monday August 30, 2010 1:40 pm |
The Small Business Administration released its Procurement Scorecard late Friday afternoon, showing that once again, the government did not achieve its mandated 23 percent small business procurement goal. Several weeks ago, I made several predictions about this, lets see how accurate I was.
Libertarian Party Denies Murkowski Potential Ballot Line |
| By: David Dayen Monday August 30, 2010 12:50 pm |
Over 25,000 ballots remain uncounted in the Alaska Republican primary for US Senate, where Tea Party candidate Joe Miller leads Sen. Lisa Murkowski by about 1,688 votes. That makes it at least possible for Murkowski to overtake Miller. Conflicting reports show that those uncounted ballots would either hurt or help Murkowski’s bid, depending on who you believe.
