Funny how the the White House, which ran a rather impeccable election campaign in 2008 seems to not really even care, or shrugs its collective shoulders, over the 2010 election.
Looking at the latest Gallup latest ballot polling there appears to be a point where the generic numbers really changed in favor of the Republicans. Somewhere around mid-August. Wonder what happened then?
Speaking publicly for the first time since he disparaged the “professional left,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said he stands by his comments, has no plans to resign and that he fully expects progressive voters to go to the polls in 2010.
And how is “Beltway Bob” doing on the prediction front?
The newest Gallup numbers show Republicans with a staggering 25% advantage in voter enthusiasm.
I’m sure there is some eleventy-dimensional chess move to come. For example, Gibbs will soon announce that Obama has cut the budget deficit by having the Government sign an endorsement deal with Purina Brands. Ladies and Gentlemen, say hello to the “Friskies Debt Commission”.

Obama broke the “funny hat rule”. Does that mean he’s not running for a second term? Expiring minds need to know.
Sure as hell, BHO is not going to do anywhere near as well in 2012 as he did in 2008. Between Gibbs, Simpson, and his disdain of “politicking” he’s dug himself quite a hole. In fact, it’s so deep you can’t see the billboards touting his achievements.
How sad, he had such potential after eight years of Preznit Decider Guy and Darth Dick and he pissed it away in less than 24 months.
No, I still don’t think the WH wants to have even more opposition to absolutely everything that’s good for the public, and even the minutes of the previous day’s proceedings. Yes, the alternative is that they’re strangely oblivious to the politics it takes to get things done.
Far from “impeccable,” Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign was silly and presumptuous beyond belief–marked by inflated rhetoric, lofty self-comparisons (Obama is Lincoln; Obama is FDR; Obama is MLK, etc.), and even religious imagery. All in all, it was an embarrassing time to be a Democrat. Glenn Beck did an excellent parody of Obama’s Presidential campaign in his recent DC rally.
Obama is doing nothing to help the Democrats in the upcoming elections because Obama cares not a turd for his fellow Democrats. Obama’s sights are on padding his resume and winning reelection in 2012.
As the 2012 elections approach, Obama will probably throw the progressives a bone. He will do something mildly liberal, to inspire lefties to vote for him one more time. Of course, if he wins a second term, he will be more of a flaming neocon than ever.
Springtime for Gun Guys
The touch of seaweed in Seafood Sensations makes all the difference.
Why ask why? Eat Friskies Dry.
Obama’s just keeping the seat warm for the next Republican dictator. He hasn’t even changed the decor, carpeting, or drapes in the Oval office.
Isn’t he going to tout the “Great Iraq War Victory” to get our patriotic juices flowing again ? USA, USA, USA.
We’ll take the victory and they get to bury their dead and figure out how to use depleted uranium in their arts and crafts.
Good morning, pups. It’s just Brooks and Herbert, since Mr. Cohen is off today. Bobo is being even worse than usual. In a revolting piece of crap called “Nation Building Works” he actually has the unmitigated gall to gurgle that though Iraq’s achievements remain fragile and incomplete, its progress must be acknowledged. The thing is unspeakable. Mr. Herbert, in “We Owe the Troops an Exit,” says there is no silver lining to the war in Afghanistan, and its toll — in dollars and in lives — is growing.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got a selection of bagels and cream cheese. Yesterday evening it was “cool,” only 86°, so we actually got to sit out in the garden for the first time in months. After reading that Bobo turd I have to go and take a shower. Have a great day.
When I look to the right of the comment box ,I see an ad with a picture of Dick Armey .
What an awful thing to see when first waking up!
I’m the eternal optimist ,I keep HOPING that Obama will bring about the CHANGE he promised.
Who knew everything was peaches and cream in Iraq.
So oil production is up…of course the mercuns want all that oil and there is no embargo so no surprise there I guess. Ah yes cell phones very useful if you are one of the more than 4 million Iraqis displaced or two million Iraqis forced to move to Jordan, Syria and other places due to mercun carpet bombing. And internet service, how useful if you are trying to locate your relatives or friends “missing” in Bagram or Guantanamo. And only 15% unemployed, half as much again as in merca and merca is in deep shit.
No mention of the cost to the people of Iraq while merca excised it’s might and the MIC made billions killing innocents so bushy and darth could get off while being whipped by condy. No mention of the over 100,000 innocents slaughtered by mercan troops and contracted mercenaries.
I guess if you are truly mercan money is all that counts, well that and killing off a slew of non-christians, thanks Bobo for your insights into why merca is truly a wonderful place with just the right ideals to force on another country. Nation building my ass.
he certainly is proving the trojan horse, administer republican policies and usher in republican control of legislation
how the hell are we gonna climb out of this?
I sure hope the democrats are planning a powerful primary challenge
Well up is down, and down is up in the White House. Remember who the Chief of Staff is, and that this is the same group who kicked Howard Dean to the curb. The COS thinks his brillance was responsible for the Democratic gains in Congress in the past two elections and the fifty state strategy and Bush’s unpopular policies were nothing.
Oh, and he rewrites history.
Hard as it is, Rahm Emanuel continues to ignore they lost Congress in that election and how unpopular NAFTA was and continues to be.
It would seem that the democratic power machine is doing their utmost to marginalize any potential opponent to Oh Bummah! witness the unrelenting smear campaign on Andrew Cuomo in the NYT, the continuing disparagement of Dean, the damning of any politico that raises a voice in opposition to the WH message, the threats to those politicians that had the temerity to voice their opposition to the Insur/Pharma dealing, the lack of support for Feingold….the list is long.
No, the democratic machine would rather a GOP schmuck than a REAL democrat but then again the democratic machine is just the corporate machine and we are all being fucked by them.
hard to find one thing wrong with that post nomolos
sad times ahead, possibly worse then the bush years as the tea partiers have gained purchase
The Tea Baggers will not be a threat unless liberals and progressives decide to sit out the midterms
It is time for the Latte Day Saints to stand up and be counted.
Good morning all.
Funny. I’ve been typing that for weeks, only I would also apply it to every D candidate for federal office.
cnbc is ‘discussing’ that in detail this morning, as well as the generic D gap. Roger Altman, Clinton’s dep treas sec, sez W tax cuts, for everyone, should be extended a year or two. That’s how far right any discussion on the economy has become (not to mention foreign policy, but that’s another topic). Not at all surprised to hear tax cut extension talk, and think there’s a good chance it will happen.
We shouldn’t be so hard on Gibbs, He is just the messenger delivering an incoherent message from the political geniuses in the WH.
We shouldn’t be so hard on Gibbs, He is just the messenger delivering an incoherent message from the political geniuses in the WH. Time to smoke out the author and pen the strategy and the outcome on him.
Exactly. “They” win by making sure that we don’t have a choice. IMHO, we had no choice in the last presidential election, and “they” had won even before the primaries. So long as they could keep Kucinich from being seen as a viable candidate, they had won. So far as I can tell the rest of the field were owned or, in Ron Pauls case, harmless to their interests.
Was that a cod piece I spied? O’s aping W more with every passing day.
Or maybe something as simple as setting a good example for his daughters. Cripes, people…
Settin’ the stage to blame the victims, I see.
Mission Accomplished.
It look’s like a modern day Dukakis tank helmet.
I’ve got my bike helmet in storage. Bought it and wore it when I was teaching my kids to ride, too. It’s got a “Geeko” cartoon sticker on the side, with the Geico mascot wearing glasses and a pocket protector.
Sometimes a bike helmet is just a bike helmet, but sometimes it’s a little more.
The “silly hat rule” was never broken in two years of Obama campaigning, for any reason. And the Neanderthal teabagging engineers I work with were having a field day mocking the helmet yesterday.
Obama can’t say he’s not running for reelection in 2012, his term is officially over the day he makes that announcement. The helmet kind of makes the statement he doesn’t care about reelection, and that gives me pause.
I agree, the tea partiers are not a threat, it’s the candidates, both republican and democrat who are scared of them and actually bow to their insane rants about taxes
those people are the problem not the tea baggoneers
Swim is up.
Let him waste his money here. I think it’s fabulous.
Shrugged is right.
He thinks he’s Abraham Fucking Lincoln. Except this guy frees the Bankers.

Obama, Gibbs etc. know what they are doing. That “professional left” comment was intentional. They want the Dems to get crushed. How else can you explain it? Is it that a GOP congress will push through more business friendly legislation, less kabuki required by the admin to get their big pay day when they move over to the private sector in 2013? It’s the only thing that makes sense.
Actually, you don’t need to bring in 11th dimensional chess to understand why a presidenct in Obama’s position would treat with relative equanimity the prospect of facing a teabagger majority House in 2011. The antics of the new majority in the 1995 House are arguably what revived Clinton’s propsects for winning re-election in 1996. The teabaggers, if they get the Huse majority to play with, can pretty reliably be counted on to indulge in antics much further out there, on any scale you might use to measure extremism. Add in the inevitability factor, the idea that the House Dem majority is beyond salvation at this point, no matter how smart and hard the president exerts himself to preserve it, and you have another reason to not be seen as so unrealistic and/or ineffective as to put forth a big effort in a cause that goes down in flames despite your best effort.
This is, absolutely, not to say that this sort of “smart” strategy is actually very smart at all. There is a very real possibility that the teabagger House will play nasty, as in 1995, but, that they will learn from 1995, and they will play constitutional hardball effectively this time. No clumsy, bludgeon instead of a scalpel, govt shut-down over the budget this time. This time a budget sent up by the House that very selectively fails to fund only the specific programs and personnel that the baggers want gone, and not the operations of the govt as a whole. If they do this right, they could leave Obama and the (presumably) Dem Senate with a govt shut down as their only way to pressure the House to send up a budget that restores funding to the disputed personnel and programs. The House won’t be the ones threatening to shut down the govt unless their budgetary priorities are met. They will have sent up bills authorizing all the critical govt functions, these bills will be there waiting for the Senate and president to act to prevent a shut down of such vital functions. The Dems will be put on the spot to make the case that this or that obscure (to most of us, but red meat to baggers) program or administration official is so vital that they have no choice but insist on their funding being restored, or they will block the funding for the vital functions until the House relents.
Such a “smart”, triangulation redux, strategy will only really prove as smart as it did in 1995, if we can count on the Republicans to make the same mistakes they made in 1995. That’s not a good bet, to my mind. A determined majority of the House majority could do quite a bit of damage playing constitutional hardball.
The legislature in general, and the House in particular, was designed to hold all the high cards in any confrontation with any other entity of govt in our system. They have so rarely asserted those “show-down” powers for so long, they tend to defer to the presidency so much, that we tend to forget just how powerful the legislature is. But they’ve got the power of the purse. Should a House ever use that power, they could knock all the conventionally “smart” thinking into the trash can overnight.
I am laughing. Perhaps you might have considered using “espied.”
Our political institutions (Democratic and Republican Parties) are now privately owned. You don’t have to know who is pulling Obama’s strings to know he has strings. People who continue to support the legacy parties are sheep (easily misled). Whatever else you do or don’t do, you MUST boycott the legacy parties. The folks who own the parties have already disenfranchised working Americans. If we do not resist we will all be impoverished subjects of a Police State.
If it’s Purina, it will have to be dry cat food — since the canned keeps going up in price and there’s not all that much protein for a human. After housing and utilities, medicines, there won’t be enough left for canned food.
Want moist food? It’ll have to generic. The really fishy smelling stuff….
Diet time for retirees!
Or, would that be “Hurry up and die” time for retirees?
Why eat cat food when cats are plentiful?
*Gasp!*
Alf, is that you?
Progressives need to vote in November and then immediately begin work on STARTING A NEW PROGRESSIVE THIRD PARTY that will shove out the Republicans, who have fallen off the right wing altogether into crazy land and have been replaced by the Democratic party as the de facto party of the status quo resistant to change conservative American.
