The Temptations — I Can’t Get Next To You on the Andy Williams Show, 1969.
What’s on your mind?
Aloha, Suz…!
ZED Evening How are you tonight Suzanne read where you got stormy weather…we are fogged in now, but most of the day was nice. Hello pups hope all are well.
Third? Fourth?
The mighty mighty Temptations!
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Quick Draw…
hey bb — winds still blowing but the rain should be just about done looking at the radar. you get out on the bay?
hey LL — gonna be old school r&b at late late night this week.. how’s va tonight?
I got some disappointment today.
nice rejection.
I’m trying not to think about it too much. Not easy.
Did you check out the breaching Humpback I posted last night on your blog? Above the water maybe 20 feet all tons airborne…like surveying the surface or just having fun being a whale.
aw crap wmd — which interview was that? at least they let ya know and in a nice way.
Btw, I kept up your fine tradition, Last nite, Suz…! ;-)
I inadvertently stumbled into the 100…! Good thing, Loo Hoo wasn’t around…! ;-)
love me some old school R & B, and glad to catch some of it tonight :-) VA is fine, summer is hopefully waning, can’t wait for fall though.
Did a 70 minute row in the fog…preparing for a race in the ocean pier to pier this Saturday. Hung in pretty well as I have a compass taped to the scull.
hahahahahahahahahaha *holding sides* dood that’s too forking funny
I grew up on the Temps!
Suz!
On the other hand the phone screen for a national lab position yesterday went well. I gave a heads up to my former boss at cisco, he got back with me and confirmed he talked with my prospective colleague.
hey newton — me too! how’s the west bay tonight?
It was the one I had a second round of interviews for a week ago.
I suspect that the interviewer that came 10 minutes late and didn’t ask me any questions, didn’t let me ask him questions and lectured me about the position had decided he wanted another candidate. But it’s pointless to speculate on it.
that sounds promising dood
That sounds promising, can Cisco use you?
my fave Temps song
Papa Was A Rolling Stone
I admit it – I listened to KSAN & KFRC…
Nice here.
I still got scolded, tho…! ;-)
Btw, I owe ya a shiny Hub Cap, any particular brand…? ;-0
temps and 4 tops — iirc i featured this one up top a while back
Jinx little fingers hooked…what are the odds first three words the same!
For the jukebox.
and kya with stephen matthew david top of the hill daly city?
Cisco is where the former boss is. They’ve had some positions that look good, but the HR folks seem to be intimidated by the fact I left because I didn’t fit the job I’d had.
good evening pups…Suzanne..!
beg
I have done contract work at DOE labs in the past. Working with brilliant people really brings out my best work.
hey ed — how ya doing?
Hi Suzanne! Feelin’ Alright? (Paul Humphries smoked his drums w/Joe Cocker’s cover).
Query, if y’all please, y’all: Maybe R&B got going bigtime in the 1940′s, so I’m wondering what’s the difference between 2nd wave R&B and Soul. Anyone think there’s any difference? I don’t.
Top notch folks always brings out the best – glad you’re still in the game dude.
Sorry to hear about the thanks-but-no-thanks, wmd.
Hang in there. It’s a really sucky economy right now. Mrs. Dr. BCT went through over a year’s worth of applications and interviews and rejections before she landed her new gig.
just fine Suz…working on a personal blog…new adventure for me..
Thanks for asking…and you?
Hey edve!
hey aitch — how ya doing tonight?
oof, running out of steam — busy couple of days at work, glad for a couple of days off now. Better run and get some sleep. Thanks Suz, and g’night all!
Sorry to hear you have to go through crap doors. Want some solace? That “with regards” in the rejection is semi-literate diction.
smoking drums
hey kelly — how’s denver?
hey bct — how ya doing?
Hello Christine…how are you?
g’nite ll
Oh god. Sorry for ya, wmd. But at least they were nice and held out the possibility of another job. Keep letting them know you’re interested.
Can’t hang, can’t stay, love ya, anyway.
Suz!!! *G*
Gotta GO Now!
Two Interviews, Up N Coming, Maybe.
I’m gonna give WMD a run for his money.
I hope!
*G*
Nite all Puppers, blessins to all y’all!
*G*
hey ce — didn’t see ya come in — how’s ohio?
was there..saw it…blew my mind…some details still hazy and crazy after all these years!!!
Doing all right and I asked ya first, but I understand – lotsa folks showing up at the same time.
hey loohoo — how’s socal?
hey larue — fingers and toes crossed for ya dood — and g’nite
tis a dark stormy night — the critters are curled up snoozing and i’m enjoying my evening :)
I hope you have better luck next time WMD…keep the faith…
you likewise Larue!!!
Well, a belated congrats!!
wow — how was woodstock dood?
The toob won’t play, but I know it like anything. The boy didn’t use matched-grip either.
http://www.sweetkarmadesserts.com/images/Specialty%20Cakes/SpecialtyAdult/congratulations.JPG
Yes there’s a diff.
Don’t confuse structure with content. The 60′s and later content offered more structural options, (but some sound a lot the same) AND also offers more tonal options.
There’s no guitar or Leslie growl in the ’40s like there is in the ’60s and laterfor one instance.
And, the singing styles? Totally different. Make one from the ’40s overlap a ’60s R&B singer. Nope!
some Marvin r&b
KYA Raydeo, 1260.
You continue to amaze and astound.
KEWB, Channel 91 Sports SCOREboard!
*G*
Heading home! See you soon!
santana soul sacrifice at woodstock is a fav of mine
Sure it is a bit stilted. They’re trying to say they like me.
I wrote to the recruiter, the hiring manager and the director that recommended me to express my disappointment:
I’m not holding my breath about getting any information back.
Yeah, ed, but you didn’t see that overhead camera shot until you saw the movie, did ya?
Yes, I was a Dr. Don Rose listener.
Ok, now I’m up.
WTF is yer question?
You want to confuzzle 40′s RnB with What?
And mix it HOW?
*killinme*
Know that yer messin with a one who knows.
Know. That.
*G*
ugh…
yep. I even shopped there once… twice.
from what I can remember…new car with 8 friends in it…abandoned for 5 days…wet, muddy, but all good vibes and happy…after the gig spent 2 days at white lake in cabins right off the lake and helped cleanup! Then off for a 7 day journey to arrive in San Fran, sunny California!!!
Wow. Nice. Working with brilliant people. Cool.
me too – didn’t he also do that sex q&a show that had the beachboys california girls as the opening music?
Yeah, you got way’s aboutcha that trenscend LLN.
Not that I’m any export.
*G*
Killin me.
hey spocko — how ya doing?
Michael’s tubs on Song Of The Wind – the Caravanserai album – is some of the finest playing I’ve ever heard (even if there are two tubbers going at it).
there’s a lot I didn’t see, but I heard a whole lot…it is difficult to describe and like I said…hazy memories, as in ‘purple’ hazy! Kept the unused ticket stubs for years and finally gave them to my oldest daughter, who promptly lost them…
Maybe have a chance to bring in an energy source that’s always 10 years away from break even.
I don’t like to say where I’m interviewing… kind of gave it away there though, just a bit cryptic in my reveal.
nite Christine…travel well…
KYA, Tom Campbell, with his Red Corvette.
Top of the hill, Daly City.
Years later, I was top of the hill, San Mateo.
91.1.
KCSM, FM.
*G*
Ok. I’m back up.
Let’s phookin dance, Puppers.
Who wants to rumble?
LOL
I may have missed that.
Rather, I hope I missed that.
You may find Juan Cole’s comments Obama’s speech interesting as I did. He did a comprehensive summary of the war and it’s impacts on the parties involved.
MIchael Shreeves, at what, 17?
Yeah, phookin schmokkin!
*G*
Pending… what’s a ‘Leslie growl’?
Go for it Larue…your’e on….
Michael at 20 actually…
Go Now!
Yeah, that’s what I meant.
Sigh, now I’m still here.
Thanks Suz, funny that jobs are opened up!
*G*
A Hammond B52 organ growl… one moment please

I will check it out for sure…I did not watch the speech…I have a very defined aversion to glorified and manufactured fiction…that excuse horror and agony…if a soldier gave a speech…I would listen out of respect…
You, person, go find some Les Paul devices, or some Les Paul devices.
Ya Humbugger, Ya!
*G*
Good. I’m in the south bay caring for my FiL who is just back from a nursing home following his back surgery.
I fixed up the railing on the bed and I’m going help him with stuff.
Today I cooked two meals and tomorrow I’ll cook a couple more so my MiL has a break.
hey transp — nicely done — how ya doing tonight?
Now, that’s a whole different thang.
And Growl.

The merlot kicked in bigtime, obviously.
Subsequent to my query and KC’s reply, I read the wikipedia entry for ‘Rhythm and Blues’. Interesting…

Another jukebox contribution.
Good Suzanne! Just remind me to listen to some Al Green and I’m all good.
: )
How are you? Very well, I hope!
Seen her. With that song, ’70′s something.
Oakland Coliseum All Star Jazz Show.
Hated that song.
Still do.
But, I got to hear many others, including Ella, Eddie Harris N Les, and many more for a few years at that venue and show.
*G*
SoCal is great tonight, Suz. Still no air-co, which is totally weird for Aug/Sept. I’m enjoying the break in utility costs, both water and SDG&E!
B52? I thought that was a bomber. I’ve played with keyboarders (more jazz-flavored) playing B3s with Leslie’s. Synths just don’t quite make that sound…
happy 100 wmd!!!
This might explain a bit…

There was one unique NY Catholic Boy Cat.

If you watch the Muhammad Ali-Karl Mildenberger boxing match of 1966, Ali never sits down between rounds, and he dances a boogaloo in the ring, alternating steps with jabs. It’s a thing of beauty. It’s a wonderful document of when the music changed, and when the world also changed.
hello Margot…how are ya?
Serve Me Right To Suffer.
Oh damn that’s the blues.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iYdFNkEq0Y
I remember…I weep every time I see Ali these days…what a great spirit!!
Btw, Suz, I was wondering if you, me, and Lurk comprise a 3-judge panel, 2 votes needed to advance, etc… For a weekly Sunday Best/Worst list(Top 5)…? And look at the proposals from the Lake for future lists…? Food for thought…? *g*
Anyone thinks it’s cake to play a hip tambourine never tried.
hoping not to be off topic or insensitive or unsourced or out of date or something elusive that can be claimed to be along those lines:
Lisa Murkowski has conceded to a guy the Teabaggers are going to shove in our faces for the next 62 days.
You can make a difference.
Hot Dayam… 200 and Zed…? ;-)
When he was in Calgary to fight Chuvalo, he was at a radio station where my lifelong friend was the deejay du jour. He had Muhammad put on headphones and played some blues for him. “Aah. That’s real nice.”

It is raining a lot. But it rains a lot in Forks, Washington too, so….
it’s a Shame!
hi edve, I’m ticked that I’m late to the party here but otherwise fine! I had a cursor that wouldn’t scroll, had to reboot, and so on. How are you?
been raining here all day….
If only it weren’t so true.
Lisa Murkowski will not go in that direction, though. She is even more pissed than I am. I’m pissed at my own family. Murkowski is pissed at the Crazy Woman. We’ll see if she endorses someone or nobody.
my money is on nobody
Best chance for a chance U.S. Senate pickup for the Dems in a generation.
Havin some fun with Suz’s LLN…sorry to hear about the cursor problem…Computers…great when they work…a pain in the arse when they don’t!
Alright…I fully empathize…! I just hate to say ‘the panel of impartial judges’ *wink* …determined that…! With a straight face, mind ya…! ;-)
mine too, but payback up here has more history than I could recount in the next day or so.
then don’t say it… pick the one you like best and say that is what it is. or have the pups pick their fav
CT…just impersonate a panel of three judges and your ruling is the law…ya know like Scalia does on the SCOTUS… :–)
Oh, that moment… Oh those Nights
Is doo-wop considered Motown era music?
not much to do during those long winters but think and think some more? or because of the sorta small town every one knows pretty much everyone kinda thing?
I sincerely hope you know I was snarkin …
Damn, that’s a nugget, good job.
Paid in Full.

We lived in a town up here for seven years where everyone lives in the same huge house.
I like the linky…very cool!
*heh* I did want to have some veneer of impartiality, M’dear…!
I actually think it is in a class all it’s own, but I could be mistaken…
If there were a Nobel or Pulitzer or Peabody for WHAT-IT-IS it would go to Suzanne. No one else would get a vote. And I realize I’m understating things tremendously.
’bout time for me to head out folks — had a long day today and i’m tired early — my apologies. please don’t let my leaving early throw cold water on the party
g’nite and thanks for letting me hang out with you guys tonight — hope to see ya tomorrow night
Maybe Smokey made doo-wop evolve. I don;t think there’s a bright line that separates until the 70s.

Thanks, feel silly mentioning it… Now when lightning struck and fried my phone line and computer a few years ago, that was a Big Deal.
Sleep well, Suzanne!
I was tempted to be truly blatant and aver Sic Semper Tyrannis…! ;-)
Suzanne..it’s been fun hangin with you…Thanks so much for this party…
sleep well and pleasant dreams
Quite the chatty bunch in here tonight.
Hiya Pups.
Aloha, Suzie…!
G’thud Suze.
Evening, Busted…! ;-)
Just wondered. At a college radio station I used to listen to, they had a Saturday night oldies dedication show, and mostly it was used to send out love and longing from prisoners at the state pen to wives and girlfriends. There was a lot of doo-wop.
((Suz)) thanks!
Good evening CTuttle, how the hell are ya?
Tyrannicallis supercalifragilistic
That’s awesome, thank you!
: )
Busted…what’s up dood??
Got a bit of a headache, going to finish my beer and fall down, go thud here in a bit. Thought I would swing by and say howdy.
The insurance adjuster said “At least no one was hurt”, right?

Hey Busted
Nite edve

Hi honey.
G’nite edve.
No, they said I could pay my deductible and I said I couldn’t afford $500 so…I went without a computer for about a year.
Might as well follow those with more sense than I have, g’nite y’all.
Sweet dreams.
I have a doo-wop CD box set and a R&B box set, lostsa overlap even in contemporaneous years. P.s.: my staff secretary and her olman did an oldies radio show every Saturday night. WIthout fail they sent out a dedication to me and my olady when they played the Chantels’ Maybe.
Yer clock’s fast… GN, ed.
If you knew me then I could’ve done you a favor…
G’thud, Busted…! Always a pleasure to see ya…! ;-)
Sweet.
I’m following the g’thud people. Nite all
