ZED to you all especially Nahant! S)

oh well!
Here’s a song from Van Morrison for your Just Say Now campaign.
CT the man, how is the waters off of the great Islands in the midst of the Pacific Ocean? Seen any whales with calves lately?
Congrats, BB…! Sorry, Spur…! ;-)
Van is the Man…! ;-)
Aloha, Mr Why and LLN pups…!
This is just about the coolest thing I’ve seen in awhile.
Good evening CT…
not surprised by Suzanne capturing the Grand Prize…after all we are talking about the undeniable, uncontestable, and fiery fingers of the keyboard: “Queen of the YouTubz”
I saw a pod of humpbacks doing some aerials, just outside of our bay’s breakwater, the other day…! ;-)
wasted time looking for the ? :~) (different computer)
If you think about it, in a reasonable world “Let it be” would be a conservative anthem.
Just a thought.
I still stand in awe of her prowess…! ;-)
another Van ‘gem’
Shatner’s LSD is so execrable he’s not in the running I guess.
Aloha, Hannibal…! It’s been awhile…!
Yeah, not as long as my previous absense. I was on here a little last week.
Oh, for the want of a reasonable and sane world….sigh!
I must be spending too much time on Fark, as I totally read that wrong.
Anyone watching “The Choir on PBS? I’m in love, love.
And can I just say that Ezra Klein is no godamned good. At all.
OH Dear!
1970 one of my best years the Beatles Maharishi years what’s not to like about a five part harmony chorded like Carol King. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHV3I5Q2MX0&feature=related
Hello Christine,
Have you ever had the opportunity to see them in a live show? I am sure you would enjoy that very, very much!!!
Breaching like this near Vancouver Islands? What a joy the oceans harbor!

Next time someone on the right complains about the liberal “Nanny State.” Just remind them of this shit.
early mopheads :–)
Just seeing a replay on BBC which we love. It makes mecry!
What disappoints me is that there’s no real live footage of Van on Utube…! I’ve scoured it numerous times…! 8-(
Cross Country Skiing on Mt. Bachelor…and to think it was 100F about a week ago!
http://www.ktvz.com/news/24813693/detail.html
Me cry!
Aloha, Wmd…! Like I said last nite…! He’s not famous for his singing ability…! ;-)
I agree…very scarce…if any…
I have his entire collection of music on CD’s, and a few DVD’s of performances…but the UTubz’s are sorely lacking for such a musical icon!
Really? I found a fair amount.
This is my all time fave Van tune…! ;-)
Aloha, Kelly…! How’s the Front Range doing…? ;-)
Like Britney is… think we’ve been here already. No question Britney’s performance is also execrable.
like in… it was so beautiful it made meecry a wee bit! perfectly fine sentiment :–)
Same here.
Hey tut
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgCXXmefjAw Brown eyed girl?
Likewise CT…there are a few that come close, but ‘Into’ just speaks to the heart and soul…it was the featured song at my youngest daughter’s wedding when her and my son-in-law did their wedding dance at their reception…very touching memory!
It’s a bit warm, somewhat over the usual. The trees have that tired summer look. I think we’re in for an early fall/funky weather change soon, like maybe a snow in September!
But who knows. I’m almost always wrong.
Aloha, Newt…! How’s your Bay…? ;-)
Oh edve, I’m a huge crier. And I LOVED the Choir. We are watching a rerun now

nice here, and a very good music night at the lake
Tupelo?
Moondance?
Into the Mystic?
Days like this?
Them – Gloria
CT…one of my next in line favs with Into the Mystic
There is some, but when you consider the catalogue of the man’s output over the decades, there certainly is not many or enough IMHO! He is up in the top ten of all time rock/pop musicians…that is some heady territory!
Had another phone screen today. Very interesting work. I down sold myself repeatedly (told them frankly I left Cisco because I hadn’t performed at the level I was hired at because my experience hadn’t matched the work)… and they’re still interested.
Love that ‘Days like This’…! ;-)
Hi CT, all!
Because
I like this acapella version.
Fingers and toes crossed for ya…!
Aloha, Margot…! That is sweet…! ;-)
VM probably the only full-bore ‘crossover’ in every genre (I think he considers himself a Jazzman).
One of the greatest one record projects of all time.
40 Some Years Ago
Still solid and fresh song to song, start to finish.
Wow – get out the skis. No snow in our part of Alaska yet, but that might change next week. Ms. ET headed out to the Yukon-Kuskokwim area for ten days next week.
It goes straight to the heart…and the beautiful simplicity of
…pure poetry of the soul….
What’s the fireweed look like? IIRC it is a harbinger of snow.
It’s also great on the Love CD/DVD.
Her again…Because
*heh* Evening Hoss…! I’ve owned several forms of that Album over the years…!
The fireweed is peaked and it is very, very wet. Six weeks.
Nice Margot how you be…well and happy me hopes.
An Irish bluesman/jazziteer/folky-rockster/r&b soulster, croonin/balladeer songman and icon!
Aloha, ET…! How is she getting there, bush plane…?
Van & the street choir
Sort of a relay of smaller and smaller bush planes.
Great vid, with The Band.
Early Van
LOVED that band!
*G*
Yep…likewise…wore it out along with Astral weeks…the Cd’s are still survivin thank goodness…and the iPod..
Evenin Larue…what’s cookin dood?
I just about wore out my old tape deck replaying that song, singing various parts, until one of my sons made me a tape that looped it endlessly. Has a pretty meditative effect I think.
For months I drove with out a radio or any music in my car and Dona Nobis Pacem was my calming song.link
Not a bad song on that album.
Legendary work, start to finish.
40 years old now.
40 years ago today Sargent Pepper taught the band to play… Tubas, French horns and of course vocals…let me intorduce to youe the one and only Billy Shoe….what would say if I sang out of key! Maybe for your Now campaign.

Best of Luck to her…! That’s clear on the other side of the Denalis…! *g*
Not everyone has a Beatles recording in their ‘collection’, but surely everyone has something Van.
The whole menu to the right is a delightful flashback.
It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue is epic.
*G*
Mod a little help on the link 75 por favor
Thanks for that! I’ve missed hearing her before now. What a voice.
*G*
Line ‘em up, there’s hundreds going back to Them.
*G*
Hey folks!
Just finished watching Mad Men. Interesting. But the show that I really liked was Friday Night Lights.
I think you may like these folks…
Refresh and you will see it repaired.
It is the most impoverished part of Alaska. She’s working as a mentor to 1st and 2nd year teachers out there. Ms ET loves it.
Always assumed that was a ref to the invention of the LP phonograph, I mean, like, y’know?
Aloha, Spocko…! I like ‘Rubicon’ myself…! ;-)
Oh man…that’s an understatement for sure!!!
Wassup, Ed!
Working on a rewrite of a food post I did a few years ago.

Stop by and get sauced with me!

I did Stocks, yesterday. How to, what kinds, things to use, techniques, etc.
Interspersed with some kitchen nostalgia and behind the scenes commentary.
Man I love the food, and making it now, but that shit’s young people’s work.
*G*
It’s her Phiwwy accent.
Her Signature Piece
I think you would be right there AitchD…the man’s music has flowed into many a listener’s ear!
Awesome job…! God speed…! *g*
That far inland would be the Cree Inuit, then…?
Thanks for responding ET. I didn’t even rate an aloha tonite…..
I have a friend now in Anchorage, doing well so far, but probably coming back in late Sept as it is a temp Federal job. I envied her because I would love to come back to AK!
I saw the storm track over that part of the Cascades, but never dawned on me that it would actually snow!
Wow. Yes I do, thanks so much.
Today I called the FDA. I called four different people to follow up on an email. I started thinking about what bullsh*t it is that the FDA, like the EPA, have sold the health of our children out to BP because of the desire for the “spice to flow”.
I’m working on a piece that I’m afraid is too “arty” when I want to be hard hitting. Maybe when I actually have my calls with the FDA and can confirm some stuff I’ll start with some hard hitting stuff. I know that the people I’ll be talking to aren’t the bad guys. But what I’m doing is drawing a parallel between the EPA after 9/11 and the FDA after the oil gusher.
Ha! That sidebar menu led me to the live YT version.
Ah what the heck, for those of you who missed it. Full On Personal Blog Whoring!
*G*
Thank You! What would you do if i sang out of Tune can’t stop…get high with a little help from my friends… do you need anybody and so on
That was released in ’67.
Moondance in ’70.
And Pepper’s is one of those epic projects, still, also.
They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
;-)
Dang, I didn’t even see ya enter…! My humble apologies Starbuck…! Aloha, even…! ;-)
I will check it out! We have completed all our series and now have to watch them a WEEK a PART! Instead of 3 at a time on DVD. It’s terrible! :-)
Preparing and serving food is some hard phookin work dood…been there at various times of my life outside of family and personal cookin, and it can take ya to the wall…but I know you and others have done the big cookin gigs and they must be the show stoppers…
A month or so ago my son went through doing some journeyman prep work on a catering gig for 1500…I conveyed to him that even though I loved him dearly, I thought he was wacko!!!
You are welcome, and congrats on 100!
Pulling a Suz are ya tonite!
Tommy and Dark Side of the Moon are some other epic productions…! ;-)
*G*
OK I’m busted twenty years ago today but the art on this album is like Peter Max
On the Anthology DVD, Paul talks about their composing of A Day In The Life, and the “I’d love to turn you on” exclamation point. He says something to the effect of ‘I says to John, “Whoa! Do you realize what we’re saying?” You know?’
Oh yeah.
Oh shirt…! Oopsie…! ;-)
SPLHCB is part of the Cambridge UP Handbook series.
It’s contagious disease!
Oh, well, could be worse.
have it in the backgound nice Timbali’s (drums)…somewhere here and now a sweet trumpet petty nice
Kudos to you spocko…dealing with those cats requires great courage and patience…and anything that has to do with the AgriCorp/Food industry is absolutely full of land mines. I have been working on a personal blog as a newbie and when it is completed I intend to purge a lot of experience and things I have learned about our misplaced reverence over this country’s food mindset!
Aloha and Waqaa!, Starbuck
With all respect, Huh?
With a little help from my friends
evening, firegolds
Aloha, PPD…!
Evening, PPD
A Different It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue
Country Gents in the early 60′s were the beginning of what’s called ‘newgrass’.
Charlie Waller and John Duffey were two of the most grand voices ever.
This version features them both, and some 3/4 part harmony, too.
Charlie Waller on lead. Duffy that HI Tenor. Really Hi. Man had a huge range.
There’s a version that Seldom Scene did later on in the early 70′s, where John Duffey just KILLS it, with 4 part harmony. Not on youtube. I’ve got a couple of live versions of it, with the original Seldom Scene lineup.
Fine, fine pickin and sangin.
What’s that? The Cambridge thing?
Moi has it at chez AitchD and listens @ 24 bit DAC.
Many many many live versions on Toobz (she’s been in Europe this summer), some show her playing and chording and picking that bossa nova thing. I’ll learn it soon.
In a contest to determine the penultimate cover, this might be the standard – the way the Shatner covers stand alone as the worst.

I’m all smiles now….
I’ve decided to take on that Bach-Busoni Chaconne, and this after hardly touching the piano for the past ten years or so. So painful, getting back into some semblance of playing, and having to master crossed hands right out of the gate really pushes the envelope. Very tricky!
Some superfine hammerin’
Are they part of the Chipewyan…?
hiya CT & margot
Thanks. Edve please drop me your email so I can add you to the list of people I alert when I post this one. Also I’d like to see your blog when it is ready. I always have more to learn. spockosemail at gmail com
I’m formulating my plan. I have found that you need to do multiple things because you never know which one will “hit”. And have multiple narratives ready.
Last week David Dayen did a story about how some food safety changes have been made after people have gotten sick and died. But what if you didn’t want people to get sick and die? What if you KNEW, with the certainty of a time traveler from the future, that unless some changes are made people are going to get sick and die from the air at ground zero.
Well I’ve been traveling in time. From September 12, 2001. And I’m here to tell you that what happened on April 20, 2010 is going to lead to great sickness and ill health.
How would you go about saving lives and the lungs of the clean up workers?
Now far would you go to save the health and lives of anonymous Gulf Seafood eaters who got sick because the FDA did what the EPA did and said things were safe when they weren’t.
And now… The Beatles!
Fred was a good friend of mine back in the day when he was starting ‘OM’ the organic merchants organization which was an early attempt to certify organic foods…indeed we lost touch over the years, but he is still going strong. I remember when Fred was literally preaching about the dangers of sugar consumption and he had some wicked battles with the naysayers and the powers of the time…
Fred is good people…him and Paul Hawken did a lot to form ideas and the spirit of what the good food movement was all about… Paul was instrumental in the establishment of Erewhon foods company!
Thanks!
Ok, can’t help muhself, and it IS LLN, where off topic is teh thang!
Ben Eldridge, banjo
John Duffey, mando
Tom Gray, dawghouse
Phil Rosenthal, git
St. Mike Auldridge, dobro
Wait A Minute
Duffey, at his finest. He’s singing hi tenor in the chorus with Phil singing tenor, and St. Mike takes the baritone.
The closing harmony will make ya cry.
Big load, Spocko. If you have the ducks lined up, go for it. I’d love to see it when it’s finished.
Joyce Carol Oates says she was inspired by Dylan’s song to write her “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?”
Me too…! ;-)
Wow you pulled that from Woodstock! I like the line near the end.. “I got to get myself together” great tube enjoyed every minute Joe rocks.
I hear you loud and clear spocko…the scene is such, that what we see on the surface of food related news and other health catastrophes attributed to the events you mentioned is bad enough, but then pale in comparision to what is purposely and deviously hidden behind thousands of other small and seemingly insignificant events that are going on day in and day out…mostly lost in the wash and unreported…
I will contact you and will definitely let you know when the blog is completed!
One of the comments on that version wasn’t too flattering.
Exquisite! In person next to it must sound something like Tibetan bells, reaching into a part of the brain nothing else can reach or get to.
So far as the EPA, look into the heavy hand they are using to force all municipal water systems into heavy expense for filtration and storage whether actually needed or not. In Portland, with one of the worlds best, cleanest water sources, we are looking at 1 Bil or so after all is said and done.
Dylan’s version? Oates’s story? What? What? Which? Which?
I guess that’ll be your nomination next Sunday, eh…? ;-)
The guy who made my mountain 4 string dulcimer back in the late sixties, told me that with lots of instruments and definitely with some of the stringed ones, that certain notes reach an angstrom level that has varying resonances in the brain…whew…it was technical info but cool and made sense…
The one which was posted in post 120.
Remember Gail who handled that Erewon line from Boston for him you may remeber Fred with long hair and beard here free ebook http://www.naturalhealthyellowpages.com/health_ebooks/the_zen_of_running/ Fred was a bout solutions never a whine he rolls up his sleeves and goes to work this is a very nice piece in poetic style with nature scene sand witched in done in Hawaii looking out over the cane fields to the Pacific. A gift to me of running and when I told him I gave my savings away to help a bunkhouse for tree planters he just said that it was good to give. He gave us the health food industry that is a very big gift! So hats off to Fred! Glad he is your friend lives in Middle town CA give him a call!
Not surprised really…I am at odds to understand how they can still have the unmitigated gall to have ‘Environmental Protection’ as part of their call letters EPA… a most cruel joke…who the hell do they think they are protecting?
reach an angstrom level
Pretty neat allusion, since angstroms have to do with light. I try to reverse that process. From light to sound.
That’s what I was thinking last night.
Sweet!
Been in love with those since back in the early 70′s when I first heard one.
I’ve HAD one since ’02, but it’s sat by itself. The dobro just took over, got them both at the same time thinking I could DO both.
Too much work!
Hmm, may be time to take it out, dust it off, and see if I can even TUNE it.
*G*
Well, my friend had just returned from Tibet, it was 1974, we went over to his place (his parents’), he struck a bell next to my ear. I didn’t know there was such a place in my brain until then. It was only that one time. Those bells are expensive.
People here are putting up a fight. The thought of having to add cancer causing chemicals to counter man made alterations to a sound water source, well it boggles the mind!
Thanks!
Looks like a ‘really big shew . . ‘ ;-)
I’ve experienced that as well.
Next we have a didgeridoo in the gut! Quite amazing to have it actually pointed at you!
Huh, I’ve never heard of her.
Nor read her works.
Just did the wiki, wow, may have to visit her works!
Thanks!
The Fred I knew was a ‘long hair’ like meeself…unfortunately I have not been in contact with him for years, but so glad he is still doing the good things. Fred was definitely one of the ‘roll up your sleeves’ good work ethic problem solvers…and his Zen of Running is still a classic and free…bless him…I will definitely try to buzz him and reminisce…
I think I remember Gail…we may have worked on a logo together for Fred…things were a little fuzzy in those days…I do remember Boylston Street in Boston…that was a good food mecca…
*heh* Again… Shatner became famous as an actor… Britney, believe or not, became famous for her supposed singing…! ;-)
E P A Environmental Destruction Agency They gave the green light ot Deepwater Horizon
the Mtn Top mining ops and much much more…the coporations own it.
Well, getting on to midnight and Cinderfella has to grab his cowboy boots and slope…
Nite all…..
Thank you Starbuck for the clarification…my ole brain probably confused his info on measurement of sound with light, although maybe certain sound produces light…everything is possible, but maybe not probable…
thanks for the gracious correction…well noted.
Sleep tight, Starbuck…!
Who do you think is behind the expensive mandated water treatment stuff?
Dar Williams’s original “As Cool As I Am” was a defining moment…
G’nite Starbuck…
I think I am ready to lay me head down also…
Thanks for a great LLN CT and sweet dreams and good rest
to all you fine folk!
If she weren’t American she would have the Nobel by now. I wouldn’t put her anywhere near Alice Munro or Margaret Atwood, her contemporaries, who are so far superior that I can’t even think of a simile for it.
It’s not so much that the EPA collectively ‘green lighted’ them, it’s more a case of all the Bushbots that were political appointees that told the EPA to ignore the evidence and rubberstamp those projects…! 8-(
Aloha, edve…!
He had the most eclectic spiritual employees from Sufi, Buddhist, Yogis to Shlomo Carlbach followers and Vietnam Vets. I had a small job but was amazed that he had a complete library in the store and all comers were welcome to read their concerns. He opened a granary across the street and provided fresh ground flour daily. He had a place near the beach and he encouraged us to run. I joined the Nigmapa Acenders and Integral Yoga Institute. I we refuse the poisons oferred by the oligarchy we can kive long healthy happy lives serving one another.
One thing I’ve learned is that this food safety issue isn’t suffering from underreporting people ARE writing about it, but as Dday pointed out only big events and death lead to change. And as I have said the “right people need to get sick for people to notice.
The people right now promoting Gulf Seafood don’t want to think they are poisoning kids.
During the pet food crisis of 2007 I read about a bunch of sad angry people who feed “heathy” pet food to their pets. It killed
Them. That makes them even angrier.
One of the other challenges is to get the scientists to make
Serious noise. They don’t want to Put their reputation on the line for a prediction. To accuse the FDA of unsound science.
And so if the talk to the media they come across as weak.
We predict that there will be 11,000 cases of cancer following the eating of gulf Shrimp 4 times a week for a year. They would be attacked as
Trying to scare people,’and overreacting. The media would go to the “official source” the FDA and they would poo poo their concerns.
8 years later 11,000 have cancer. “nobody could have predicted”
So I say we push the issue now and force the FDA to change their testing protocols and open them up to the public
Look up WIC Wastewater Industry Council and like water lobbyist for the corporations that profit from foisting these technologies on communities. They buy the regulatory agencies that make their technologies a requirement (Privatizing) Look at Felton CA who bought out the for profit European Corporations operation there they lowered their bills by 50%. Look at Austin’s billion dollars water works proposed that Green warrior commented on a few days ago. Hope that helps.
Talk to Oprah she tangled with the meat industry.
Want to know about the EPA call National resources Defense Council or Kennedy who is on their board. The toxic chems that Big Chem puts out are the main causes of cancer and endocrine disrupters which they dragged their feet on classifying over 80,000 back then, NRDC took them to court and forced them to restart the program http://www.epa.gov/endo/ check it out we are swimming is a sea of toxic chem that are polluting drinking water aquifers, watersheds and rivers and oceans.
Don’t meant to seem argumentative but what the hell why spoil a reputation that I spent a life time building. S)
In 1990 Paul Brodeur wrote a 2-part series in The New Yorker about the innumerable cancers linked (caused by!) to low-level electromagnetic radiation, primarily emitted from high-tension wires and electric sub-stations. The science had been reported in a Johns Hopkins medical journal. Upshot? The electric power companies had more lawyers and money, they argued that the (very obvious and deduced) linkage and connection couldn’t be proven.
Pups-
Officer Todd Young of the Fremont, CA PD has been upgraded to serious condition. More surgeries await.
Blood donations can be directed through the American Red Cross.

*heh* Ya won’t get an argument outta me…! ;-)
I shall bid ya’ll another fond adieu…! Mahalo for ya’ll’s comments…! *g*
Aloha Oe…!
Mahalo, Lurk…! Hopefully the worst is behind…! *poof*
The thing is that it’s not my science I’m pushing. It’s the NRDC.
I didn’t write the letter to the FDA, they did.
One of the things I’m going to do is take all this scary stuff to the doodies who are pushing Gulf Seafood out of a sense of wanting to help.
I also want to draw parrellels between the EPA of ground zero air is okay and the FDA of “the shrimp are fine to eat”
Macca at the peak of his songwriting and vocal talents. Nice. His vocals here are effortless. One of the most talented singers of his or any generation.
so glad i stopped by after getting home from work. This is good news! sending more healing vibes *lays hands on monitor*
