To “reclaim the civil rights movement.”
Yes, because in the good ol’ days of Washington civil rights rallies the original “owners” knew how to march!
But the other news is that now the world’s proudest defender of a First Amendment cafeteria plan, Sarah Palin, will be helping Beck (and the NRA, in honor of MLK, of course) reclaim the civil rights movement as it used to be…a place for white conservatives to speak of the joys of saying “N-word”, the insensitivity of “Muslims”, and the need for funny shows like “Amos-n-Andy” to come back. Hey, while she’s at it, maybe Palin can reclaim contralto from Marian Anderson?

About Firedoglake
Has he no shame? I will be interested to see if any authentic contributors to actual civil rights turn up for the event, and if they would be allowed to speak.
Good morning, Ruth. Ted Nugent’s going to be there. He’s foursquare for your right to carry firearms. And your right to all the Bud you can hold. And then a few more cans.
These are important civil rights for this non-tea party tea party rally.
Gov. Sarah Palin is extremely popular, and her presence at any event assures a large , enthusiastic crowd.
Sarah Palin will be there. Did you miss that?
Will the freedom to booz be celebrated with free booz, tho? Brought to you by the fokes who made the civil rights movement necessary.
Good morning, pups. Bobo and Mr. Cohen are off today, so Prof. Krugman is flying solo. In “Appeasing the Bond Gods” he says the policy elite are making a strange argument in demanding that we engage in human sacrifices to appease the anger of invisible gods.
Here he is.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup for breakfast. It’s Friday, which is good. It’s payday, which is better. It’s payday, Friday, and no Bobo to slog through, which is BEST. Have a great day.
Which reminds me that I noticed in press coverage of the
notGround Zeronot amosque thatboth the New York Times and the New Yorker refer to the ADL as a “human rights organization”.
Which makes Abe Foxman the MLK of our day. Or something.
Thanks, Marion, it’s no doubt a surprise to Krugman to discover that the majority of self-professed economists, or business reporters, are promoting the short term interests of corporations at the expense of the actual health of the consumer economy – which ultimately is a sacrifice of the economy. No, it makes no sense, except in promoting themselves in the short run.
At least two members of Beck’s Meth Militia will be no-shows at the rally.
Okay seriously. Pardon me while I do some thinking out loud. What I’m thinking is the whole “mosque” thing is being perpetuated by Rove and friends, while the Dr. Laura thing could/should be perpetuated by The Dems…. Mosque=Dr. Laura. However, it was an independent, watchdog type internet site that busted Dr. Laura and WE still don’t know who’s funding the Mosque thing. Enter Mr. Beck. Seems to me politico’s need to be at this Beck “Honor the civil rights movement” thing with camera’s rolling ready to POUNCE on the first wrong spoken word at that rally. Apples for Apples. Then maybe Rove and friends will call off the dogs on the mosque thing after playing back some of the soon to be Beck footage. Whatever. That’s if the Dems had a coordinated play book. But they don’t.
Politico, a.k.a. Koch Inc., will no doubt find much to air, like its report on Ethics committee investigations that left out the era of right wing dominance during which the committee was left inoperative thru lack of staff and members.
By “large , enthusiastic crowd,” do you mean something like this? Palin’s underwhelming ticket sales
Talk about insensitivity, Howard!
In all seriousness though if this event doesn’t fizzle it will burn with bad vibes and actions. It could go either way.
I think it is simpler than that. I think we have an ever loving big war machine that ‘owns’ big media and both of our established political parties. Breaking that log jam is why I argued for the creation of the Tea Party.
Don’t believe me? Watch any TV interview of military brass. ‘Reporters’ like David Gregory show their early training by the CIA as child sex slaves to these very same people in every move they make, every word they speak. I find it revolting to watch so I don’t.
Mind Control: The Ultimate Terror http://www.umsl.edu/~thomaskp/offline4.htm
People like Glenn Beck fit in as part of the propaganda arm of this slave making war machine.
I find him interesting because as we develop a new progressive political party to counteract their machine of death, he does everything he can to expose and discredit us, thereby creating a sort of in-reverse advertising agency for what we do. If we could figure out how to work the crazy controls, we could put it towards our own goals very nicely.
Mosque=Dr. Laura. There is pure racism on both sides of that equation. It is based on Beck’s white people feeling like they are able to impose their ‘sensitivities’ on others (without the slightest actual concern for being sensitive to those they impose upon).
I don’t really know where Glenn Beck is going with his big message, but I do suppose whatever he is up to it will eventually be revealed. (Maybe as a joke I should send him some golden tablets …. hmm, what to say? What to say?)
I’ll put 10 dollars on MLKs zombie pulling itself out of it’s grave to walk up to beck midspeech and beat the **** out of him.
Zombie MLK would try to eat Beck’s brains but ZMLK would smell the meth fumes coming out his ears and know that Becks swiss cheese mind would poison him.
ZOMBIE MARTIN LUTHER KING HUUNNNNNGRRRRRYYYYYYY!!!!!
Beck’s brainwashed masses will see no conflict in this rally and will believe that they are absolutely correct in their message. And Dr. Laura is a victim, too, also.
I am no longer surprised by anything these facists do. They are facists, and they are supported by loads and pallets and buckets of money from the wealthy zillionaire facists, like the Kochs.
Yes, the Owners’ Rally. Put the Uppity back in its rightful place.
