About Firedoglake
Hi
So, I hear that much of the “Ground-Zero Mosque” stuff traces back to this charming lady:
(from the Wikipedia)
hey bb — how’s your bay tonight?
LOL! SUZ!
hey wigwam…. oh lardy *shrudder* the woman who wants to ride bolton’s moustache *nuther shrudder*
how ya doing tonight?
Hey Suzanne and BB!
Breathe deep and slow observe the emotions so they don’t drain your energy and spirit…easier said than done but it helped me overcome a strong attachment.
hey newton — glad ya liked it — how’s the west bay tonight?
I got tired of all the Mosque shit and decided to do a bit of digging. How the Hell can the right wing get the entire country to have fits over something so trivial?
Great. Another A/C day. That is two this summer.
they know what buttons to push because they have been priming those hot buttons for years
Damn! Only two. I have to give my AC a running start or it’ll never keep up.
I’ll give them this much: they’re damn good at what they do.
it hit 68 today — sunny for a change but the temp was basically what it has been when it has been overcast. starting to cool off a bit at night and starting to dip into the high 40′s from the usual low 50′s at night.
Uphill jog for 45 min with a view of the Rock half crowned with fog, hazy bay. After snacks and dry clothes rowed across the bay under the fog little windy and hazy. Lots of harbor seals, brown pelicans making interesting crossing flight patterns while fishing and seagulls floating in the high tide. Chili.
Too easy, too done, and you’ve been there.
But I have to, cuz all yer base belong to yus.
*G*
Teh Original Kittehs.
Whass up Puppers, I been grassin and pickin dobro from the computer.

If ya like da grass, dig it.
That’s downright “nippy.”
hey larue — how’s your ‘maters?
i’ve had lotsa browns on the bay this month.
Someone has set you up the bomb?
Makes you worry about the press for giving her a platform, no? How about John King???
ace of base
hey loohoo — how’s socal tonight?
Only through the press. It’s revolting.
I’ve heard she farts lil green footballs.
Or something like that.
Less about Pammy Wet Panties the better.
Harumph.
A grand infestation of ‘Fuck The Voter’s is at hand.
Every 2 years.
I tire of the game.
;-)
Anything to distract us from the fact that THEY are coming after our Social Security benefits.
polythene pam
It always cools down at night, but today was pretty damn hot.
I want to fight back, but even the Dems are in on it.
:)
We’re in our third in a month and a half.
And it don’t woik, and WE is hating the phook outta it.
I cleaned out the AC filter that was clogged, and did NOT get the response I wanted.
Tomorrow, I hit the maintenance shed, and ask the dude in charge to test our AC.
The phookin fan is weak, for the unit and our sq. footage (they replaced units with smaller one’s ten years ago) and as of now, I think there’s leakage of the coolant used.
Rent or own, it’s a constant struggle ‘gainst the elements.
And the wallets always lose.
Sigh.
sorry for fogetting you are down in socal wigwam…. are you near san diego or are ya in la land?
Damn yer eyes . . . lol
We hit 93F, a few breezes today, but nothing but hot heat evaporating up all night, and it’s still 85F inside, with AC on. Outside is a bit better, but no circulation to take out the rising heat from the day.
This is The Sacto I Recall.
Only, milder, so far.
I’m whinin, but, avec reason, mon seour!
*G*
Suzanne!…how are you…I sincerely hope all is well… :–)
la woman
hey edve — doing ok — how about you?
Thanks for askin!
Doin better that I am . . . grumpy as all hell in case ya didn’t catch it.
Low 90′s and they still are fruiting, all of them.
But we ain’t happy, and it’s ornery time here.
And we’re only whining cuz this is the BEST summer we’ve ever had, and we FORGET them 21 daze of 110F we’ve had a few times every year since we moved here.
Since ’88.
All of a sudden, we think we’re back in San Mateo. And THAT’S a phookin lie.
LOL
It’s been really nice here in SoÇal. Airco needed, but not really taxed.
I think of the Right as doing a really “good” season of pro wrestling-type scripting.
They just script it and they get people to push the talking points without ceasing.
We laugh and point and a few months later there’s some push back, but it isn’t coordinated.
You know the drill and the routine.
*G*
hey margot — how’s ohio tonight?
Out in the garden today and then doing some art…doin OK! Thank you!
Don’t worry. Ain’t a teabagger in town who’ll give up their social security benefits.
what kind of art?
I hate you for coolin down at night.
Ok, I just envy you.
Hate is the wrong woid.
Envy. Really, really envy, you.

I do ‘old school’ pencil and paper…and I spend most of my time at the computer with a ‘Wacom tablet…I really dislike ‘mice’…they feel like bricks and are not really sensitive to either drawing or painting digitally…just my biased opinion…after using a tablet and stylus for almost 10 years…
‘nuther grumpy
Those sound great. You going?
Ed, I play this instrument, for 30 years.
This one is a bit slow, and it’s only a 3 string one.
I play a 4string one.
But still . . . .

There were a few in the 60′s Folk Scare that did this in a more pop and modern way.
They were good, too.

staying home. gotta be here tomorrow night and then sunday is my first day off and my favorite day to just do nothing.
i’m thinking this week is gonna be a do nothing both days off — i need some down time and not crowds and traffic woes.
I haven’t done anything recently, and am an amateur, but I use a mouse. A brick is exactly how I’d describe it. Would love to have one of those Wacom tablets.
I’m fine hoss, thanks for askin.
I just tire of the sameness . . .
And the burdens.
And the failures.
And the death and dearth of the middle class, the class war, yadda yadda, yadda.
I long for a reason for change, besides my personal needs.

In response to Larue @ 46
Out of every 24 hrs, there’s usually at least one that is pleasant.

YOU!!!
Been a bit DESOLATE ya puts.
Show up once in a while will ya?
*G*
Exactly! But in the WWF, both sides are playing from the same script. And, I’m starting to suspect that the same is true in Washington DC.
Larue…
I literally fell off my seat dood! I have been playing dulcimer since ’69…Got my first one in Fairfax, California, made by a friend named Robbie Long. He introduced me to my dear and recently departed friend Laura Allan who played with David Crosby on ‘If only I could remember my name’ and Joellen Lapidus who made Joni Mitchell’s first dulcimer. I stopped playin for awhile, but still pick up my McFadden four string when the spirit moves me…
Is that you playin on that vid???
Hi Loo! Thanks for a reply of appreciation!
A fav camp jam.
I’m missing fests, and camp jams, guess it shows tonite in my comments.
LeSigh.
No, no. Get some special dispersant to get rid of that mofo. Check with BP. That shit is not lightweight.
popcorn shrimp — be sure to read the subtitles….
hey kelly — how’s denver?
Inland Empire, which is several degrees hotter than the beaches.
I. Waz. BIZZY!
I was on the road till last night; was sneak blogging a bit this evening. Belch’s sis-&-bro-in-law just rolled up this evening. They’re all night-night now, so I’m catching up.
ouch! had friends i used to visit in fontana.. brutally hot at times
Howdy ma’am! D is clear and cool. Good sleeping weather, prolly about 62.
Classic Suz…and to think it was done without those dang computer thangs!
This year has been unusually cool until the last few days. And it usually cools down by late Sept.
[thinks to self; hmmm, I'm in reverse Larue time. He showed up first, me 50 minutes later. WEIRD!]
hahahahah dayam dood, lets do the time warp
Dear god in heaven. Are you in Temecula?
Evening Suz and all. We had a big bear visiting the street tonight. Exciting, my first time ever to see one up so close!
Hi everybody. I had a remunerative evening. Traded eggs for a couple beers. Sold 20 CDs for $75 to tavern patrons and friends. One friend also asked me if I wanted some scrap copper – I’m taking in between 140 and 200 pounds of copper salvages from a big DC motor tomorrow, should be $220 or more.
WHOA! Never saw THAT animated version before!
Margot…
They can get expensive, but depending on your needs and your wallet, you can get a ‘Bamboo’ tablet with stylus for under 90 bucks…not exactly pocket change, but worth the money in my opinion…when I had some extra scratch, I got one for my son in LA and he said it elevated his comic drawing by several levels because of the ease and the ‘touch and feel’ of a pen.
hey bg — what kinda bear? how ya doing?
Hey Suz, LooHoo.
NH is verrrry dry. Hoping that Sunday will bring a day or two of rain. Brown crass, yellowing leaves, stunted corn. Need a rain dance for sure.
No, not a chance in hades.
I’m good. I’m not on youtbuve anywhere.
I’m also limited to minor and modal.
Richard Farina is my idol. Hope he’s yers, too.
NO one played like him, still.
And he played simple.
Some cats in Santa Cruz in the 60′s n 70′ were hot, as they build and played chromatic dulcimers.
Force and D’osche.
Robert Force I think, and he’s been a HUGE influence in dulcimer camps and work books for decades.
Al D’Oschee has passed, but he was huge.
The two of them popularized the method of playing a dulcimer (be it 4 or 6 or 12 string) in the guitar position, with chording done OVER the top of the instrument.
I’ve never been able to do that, I play in my lap.
Some Info
Love Force and D’Osche.
*G*
hey wmd — a productive day! how ya doing?
happy 100 edve!!!
I’d taken CDs in to SC earlier turned down the used record store’s offer. Glad I did!
we need one here too… been a month or more without rain. things are getting crinkly
Wow! I had a bear experience when I was about 8 at Yellowstone. Makes a definite imprint on the brain!
Ahhh, shaddup, you rock, and you rule.
Just elucidate, will yas?
*G*
Time for me to crash.
G’nite, All.
One of the CDs that sold for $4 tonight.
the day i moved into this place, i was driving over cape lookout bringing in my first load and saw a black bear cub sitting very patiently by the side of the road. after i passed, i saw him cross the road in my rear view. i figured it was a good omen
What happened? Where did it go?
g’nite wigwam
Dood – some news for you. Minor IS a mode!
What you think of as a major scale is the Lydian Mode. The minor is Aeolian.
Each step of a scale has a corresponding mode, and they all have icky GREEK NAMES!
Nite wigwam
Dang nab it! This is getting to be a habit…probably means I am gonna get abducted by aliens from space or somethin..
It was black, very good looking, big–hundreds of pounds I suppose. I guess it was a black bear, but maybe it could be a brown one?? I saw it going through the neighbor’s garbage across the street, but I guess it did not groove on that, so it ambled off up the street. Soon enough, it appeared with a big white bag of garbage which it took across the street, and it sat under some trees sampling whatever was in the bag. Eventually, the police came and frightened it away.
Little Momma ALWAYS talks about the bears, but she has never seen one until tonight. It was very exciting.
Suz & PDX pups – NORML conference is in PDX Sept 9-11.
they all fell down at the end
Heh – I’m a sucker for the Lydian Mode, and the BEST EVAH explanation of it is from Belgium…
I sense HUGE bbq and deck funz?
*G*
Good to hear from yas.
Send recipes!
*G*
or that it is time to head to vegas or buy a lotto tix
wow
kewl.. thanks wmd
Richard and Mimi…yes! Favs…and Jean Ritchie – old tyme…
I never got used to the stand up and strum gig espoused by
Force and d’Ossche…but I learned some stuff from their
classic ‘In Search of the Wild Dulcimer’…
lap playin is the style while tappin the feet!
You N Ornery Bastard should swap goodies.
You two got a lot in common.
Us folks need to share in them cases.
Let him know.
I’ve enjoyed every NORML conference I’ve attended. Good speakers, and a lot of fun activities besides the conference sessions.
I’m just a nut for wild animals. Last weekend I saw a big golden eagle. It flew just a few feet from the window where I was sitting. Then it just rode the air around the canyon below. Again, never saw such a thing here before.
Two weekends in a row–I feel so lucky. Really crazy, all the time I have ever spent here, and suddenly two big nature events in a week.
Too kewl, words fail.
My older backpacking experiences with bears don’t match up.
Too kewl.
*G*
I’m headed over to SJC to sell copper tomorrow morning. I wonder what copper is selling for now, haven’t sold scrap for a long time.
Why thank you Suz…
that’s putting a pos spin on it…now let me go raid my penny jar!! :–}
i love having bald eagles for neighbors. we get occasional deer on the property, a bazillion birds, and the brazen huzzy raccoons — saw what looked like a coyote walking across the mudflats by the point on day at low tide but the only time i’ve seen a bear was the day i moved in and that wasn’t on this plot of land.
Hey, Greg B., awfully pitiful here in SoCal. Glad I have an alternative place to live.
i try to be in touch with my inner pollyanna — sorta trying to make up for all the years i was in touch with my inner bitch
Glad to see you’re making it be hook or by crook!
bgrothus…
where I live in Northwest Jersey…black bears are as common as leaves on a tree…they sure love garbage if you happen to leave it unattended and not in ‘bear proof cans’… but where we live is their neighborhood…we are really the intruders. We found that if you learn to live with them and respect their habits, they go their merry way…
The cubbies in spring are just way too adorable…but don’t cross the mama!!! Big time trouble!
Looks like around $3.27/lb. Not sure how clean it has to be, probably pretty clean.
Know the modes, hoss, sort of.
Modal, IS minor, is it not?
Minor, IS modal, is it not?
Theory wise?
*G*
Ok.
Some modal is major.
But still.
Ah shit, I got not enuff theory.
You do.
*G*
Modes
This I know.
*G*
Hi Folks:
Anyone going to the free “they might be giants” show at Stern Grove on Saturday in San Francisco?
hey spocko — how ya doing tonight?
I KNOW there’s a Richard Farina tune in Lydian, that’s on Youtube.
But you will have to find it.
And find the MOUNTAIN SOUND.
Cuz that shit rules, hoss.
*G*
I know some people see bears and such all the time. It is just so rare for me. The game people have been killing most of them this year, and there have been problems with bears attacking people at camp sites. The police here seemed to be very cool. For a moment, I considered calling the police, but I thought better of it. Bear was not hurting anything, and he definitely gave the neighborhood something to talk about.
Black bear…totally good omen!
$3.27! wow that would be really great!
I was thinking about $1.50
Damn…I’ll remember that and never make a comment that might conjure up that former self…(as he says to himself: wahoo boy, watch out!) ;-o
I bow, ‘In Search Of’ was beyond what I can do.
Richard, and Mimi, and Force and d’Osche and such, were huge in my time.
I’m so long gone from most of it.
What a trip to hear you are a lap picker.
And strummer.
Dang!
*G*
i used to joke that i could go from zero to bitch in 6.3 nanoseconds….
They can definitely be a real problem where camping and other activities conflict with their habitat…and they are definitely very scary in attack mode…you cannot out run them, and you cannot stare them down…the big ones are way too powerful!…
…but they are bears being bears!
Looks like that’s the commodity price – scrap is around $1.90 for the clean motor windings I’ve got.
My sister had some stuff she wanted to donate to a thrift store, so I took it to the Animal Humane thrift location. There was a woman ahead of me who dropped off a whole box of laboratory glass. I took a look at the box and asked how much they would take for it. After making a comment about “meth,” the guy said $10. I gave him $20. I took the box to our store, and the manager said he thought we would triple my $20.
We don’t get a lot of lab glass any more, and it is always a good item.
I just used the internets to find the price of scrap copper. That is the ball park, from a quick search. I don’t know if you sell it to a scrapper if they will pay you as much, but who knows? That seems to be the price.
Hey remember how Suzanne suggested we do something to get the TV show Jon Stewart or Colbert involved in the question of “Will Mrs. Obama feed Sasha and Malia Gulf Seafood?” Well it turns out Steven Colbert did something about eating Gulf seafood on Tuesday. Jim White mentioned in his post today.
I did work on a diary for Seminal. I’m doing it as an open letter, but that might be lame. I did the research and found out that
1) She cooks for the family a few times a week
2) She started the organic vegetable garden.
3) Her “Let’s Move” is her attempt to get healthy food and exercise in kids.
But if I call up the White House and ask the deal will be “which experts will she go to for advice.” She might have to go to the FDA as the official group to show that “the government things it is safe, so we, as your representative in government need to trust the FDA, therefore I will feed gulf shrimp to my children (even if the FDA isn’t testing for a number of things and they weight limits for safety are for someone my husband’s size not the size of my children.)
What would be good to have would be a source in the government who disagrees with the FDA. Someone like the Surgeon General.
I gotta get, my best to Suz, Kelly and Ed.
Bless ya folks, be well, and a big hug to you and yours.
From me and mine.
As Kelly sez, *smooches* ya pups.
*G*
So that is why people are stealing copper out of old houses?
g’nite larue
Yepper. Around here there have been thefts of the copper off the roofs of supermarkets. They actually had to close a couple of stores because all the refrigeration was down after this sort of a theft, while people were shopping!
‘Night, mook.
Larue…
My friend Laura always used to tell everyone…just play…it matters little if your just strummin or a freakin virtuoso, it’s what it does for you inside…I never forgotten her words and she was damn good…up there with the pros.
These days I get great satisfaction just pickin for my grand kids…it’s a hoot!
Play on brother…enjoy!
iirc colbert did eating gulf seafood generally — i think it is a natural step for his show to take it futher — specifically asking the white house as you want asked — have you tried contacting his show?
Hey, bb! I’m all screwed up on the chain here. I’m doing really well, and feeling rich about ditching the mortgage payment. How are you?
A good nite to ya hoss…be well!
Holy crap!
See…my fears were justified! :–)
spocko, there were photos of Obama and all eating seafood down there last week. They are really trying to help the fisherfolk. But I don’t think I would like to eat it.
i’m retired and am a much mellower person now
The stores had to ditch all their frozen foods, dairy, etc. It was wild. People were just shocked that the shelves were bare.
I might. In my research I found Samatha Bee did a piece on how Michelle Obama’s organic Garden upset the pesticide industry so she got a pesticide guy to talk to her and condemn it.
The organic garden was HUGE in the media. I decided the right person to question is Mrs. Obama, not the president or the presidential chef (although they both might have some views on the topic)
The issue is really about splitting hairs. I read a lot of FDA and EPA info about the testing and what they did and didn’t come up with based on where they did and didn’t test.
that’s really brazen — but i could see folks seeing folks on the roof and thinking they were maintenance or repairmen since it was daytime and the store was open.
Interesting. do you remember where and when this was?
I’d like a link.
you see if Obama was eating the seafood he might be okay as long as he only eats it once a week. The girls are smaller and they are more sensitive to heavy metals as well as other compounds.
If she is truly in touch with feeding her children healthy and she in any way adheres to an organic lifestyle in the slightest way, it would defy logic to feed her children tainted Gulf seafood…unless her husband tried to convince her of the necessity of a PR induced scenario!
Oh, man. You’re too smart! Makes me appreciate being on the same threads as you!
I knew some people who re-painted a billboard so it said “Heather Wilson smokes crack.” They did it in broad daylight, just drove up in a truck with ladders, white painter clothes and climbed right up and “fixed” the sign. It can work, for sure.
Whew! Mellow is good…very good!
Speaking of “precious bits of metal” I shall now tell a story on myself. Happened yesterday.
I am an aging, yet hard core punk. I was original, yet conservative. You won’t see any of my tattoos when I’m wearing long pants and a polo shirt; the first tattoo was in ’77. I had both ears pierced multiple times before 1980. Did the nips in ’88.
Did I say I was aging? So those are def not prominent features any longer; in fact I wear no jewelry and am very plain looking these days. Except…
I was at the Spokane airport yesterday, late afternoon, coming home to Denver. It’s a small airport and the security guys were quite yakky. “Hey we have a new machine, so make sure you have nothing in your pockets..” bla bla bla.
I asked “What new machine?”
“Body Scanner.”
[pause...]
“There’s metal on my cock-ring; that’ll make it go off, huh?”
[silence]
I just reached in my pants, and threw that sucker in the bin with my shoes.
The ensuing silence was deafening.
Hah!
tis amazing what ya can get away with if ya do it in broad daylight and are acting like you are supposed to be there doing it
teh google. Here’s just one link, all have the same idea, good promo but is it Really Safe?
dear pups…it is almost 3 am on this coast, sleepy me
bids you all a goodnite graced with pleasant dreams
peace!
hahahahahah *grabbing inhaler* hahahahahah
ohmystars kelly
g’nite edve
I always wanted to change a billboard. I had one planned out and seriously was going to do it. But I didn’t.
“WD-40, Sir?”
I bet they gave your bin a wide berth, lol!
I wish!
the BLF
The fisher men WANT comprehensive testing. They want more tests on everything.
As I read the EPA tests on seafood I found out interesting stuff.
1) One test is about lethal rates on the seafood for 48 and 96 hours.
if it doesn’t kill 50 percent of the seafood in that time it dies.
what about 7 or 10 days later? One toxicologist said that in his studies of 7 and 10 days later with a chemical that pasted the death rate was 90 percent.
2) The issue of “bio-accumulation” in the seafood isn’t clear if they aren’t testing for heavy metals that are in the deepwater crude. They are testing with Lousiania Light sweet crude (mmm tasty) and that is not the same as the oil out of the Deepwater well.
3) The Plumps are 30 miles long and haven’t gone away. When they shut off an area of the Ocean from fishing a lot of it is based on the surface look, not underwater.
4) They are counting on smell of the oil to tell them what they need to know. But what I don’t know is do they do smell tests on EVERYTHING or just a sample? The reason I ask is that in the case of Mad Cow they test a percentage of the cows, something like one percent. When a company that sold beef to Japan was asked to test 100 percent of the cows so they could buy the beef the beef industry was told not too since it would set a bad precedent for the industry. The plant in Nebraska closed down since they couldn’t seen any beef to Japan anymore.
LOL! I KNOW!
I’ve SO gotten away with it before on the old machines! But the full body SCANNER?
“Sir, we’d like to talk to you about yer, um, genitals.”
Not a SQUEAK!
LOL!!!!
There weren’t enough 10-foot poles, hunny.
I am SHAMELESS in that regard. I just put it in my pocket after it went through the X-ray machine. Ho hum.
LOL!
hey openhope — how ya doing?
You could just so easily be an underpants bomber. . .
I just burst out cackling! That is too damn funny. Kelly you DA MAN!
Night edve, thanks for the thoughts. Sweet dreams!
They probably put on their gloves and took that bin somewhere special. They will get it out when they want to “punish” some poor person and have a mighty laugh over it.
Who said I was wearing underpants?
Aging. Punk. Rocker.
my fake knee will get me manually wanded… or so i’ve been told.
i’ve not flown since before 2001 and been through a few metal detectors (concerts and courthouses) since getting the TKR in 2003. i tell them up right up front that i gotta fake knee and that i will beep and sure enough, i have
NOthing comes between you and your. . .uh. . .bomb.
Oh, you BAD BOY !!! It’s not the Denver of my childhood, that’s for sure. Back in the day. They would have so beaten the living piss out of you.
Probably can’t shoot at mailboxes on a wild Saturday night anymore.
Thank Progress!!!
“Manually wanded” could be nice, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Kelly…no way! You actually did that at airport security??!!!
Hi Openhope.
“That’s our Kelly!”
/tag line for the new sitcom LLN.
“He’s a former punker with a cock ring. She’s the daughter of Emily Post.
Together they fight crime and teach people table manners.”
the taint?
It was the Spokane Airport dahling; I was flying HOME to Denvah.
Puh-lease, I know those TSA freaks in DEN. Lard, about 2 years ago last fall I said “Buenos Dias” to the boarding-pass-fuhrer and he about went through the roof! I don’t mess with the Denver crew at ALL anymore.
Yes.
Evidently there’s a reason why there’s no Colorado Firedog meetups at my place.
gotta always be safe sane and consensual yanno
Oh, same as it ever was. Do you guys still have a Norad base ? Cheyenne Mountain.
LOL!
You forgot:
Fight for the 4th Amendment and body jewelry for ALL AMERICANS!
It is or it taint.
happy 200 loohoo!!!
Now, as I recall, you put up a video with a babe licking book and were excited about the literary content.
Have you and Kelly ever thought of working on a video to get the Youngbloods attention. In a political way.? :]
Crap, I got my phone a tiny bit wet earlier tonight, and it seems to be on the blink. This is the first time this has happened for maybe 10 years. . .I keep hoping it will fix itself, but so far, not.
is you is or is you aint
Take the battery out, STAT! And leave the cover off and dry it all out!
Gotta go -always a hoot to hang with you all.
Live Long And Pester!
I’ll try that, I already took out the battery and tried to make sure it was all dry. Then I put it on the charger hoping it would generate a little heat. I also put it near the stove hoping that would help to dry it out, in case there was water in it. Truly, it’s not like I dropped it in the toilet.
Thanks for the link. I just read the whole story. It was a perfect story for me.
1) The Moonie Times who were doing the, “One the one hand, on the other hand” stuff.
It looks like the PR offensive to push the seafood as a political topic has already sailed and Obama has come down on the side of trusting the testing. Was HIS shrimp tested for Corexit and heavy metals? I’ll bet.
Well all the shrimp be tested? I don’t think so.
When I was doing the research on the Pet food Crisis of 2007 I was stunned by the lack of actual testing of stuff as well as the way the testing mades all sorts of assumptions. I was also amazed by all the ways that the big food industry works the scientists and the refs.
Did you know that 5,000 people die each year from food borne illnesses?
g’nite kelly
Night, Rebel.
And more people die from infections they caught in hospitals too, IIRC, hospitals are the Worst places to go to get well.
I had giardia last year. It was horrible. I told my doctor I thought that was what I had, he would not believe me. Dr. Google had it cold.
just look at the egg recall story — half a billion eggs now recalled
The whole chicken and egg business is about as bad as it gets. A few years ago I got a survey call from one of the big chicken producers, Tyson or one of those. I started to tell the person who was asking me the questions if she knew about how they cut off the beaks and such. She was horrified, had never heard the horrors of mass chicken production.
time for me to head out folks. thank you for letting me spend a wee bit of time with you tonight.
hope to see ya for sat nite toon tomorrow nite. tis a good one
g’nite all
Yeah, I think the numbers are much higher, just not researched and put together. Kidney failure can take years to kill you, but the moment it starts, your life as you knew it is over.
Nite Suz, thanks for being a great hostess, I’m off too. Nite spocko and all.
Yeah I saw that. We ate 36 eggs from a batch that was recalled.
I just sent Mrs. S off with a batch of Featherbed Eggs to a “girls weekend out”. I also made her a vegetable compote for fish and a pan of homemade brownies. I wanted her friends to know that her husband isn’t a world beating revenue generator, but can cook.
Night, Suzanne. Thank you for hosting in a time of personal angst. I don’t know how you do it.
Sweet dreams.
Good night Bgrothus and Suzanne.
I’ll just go off and read some more information about tainted seafood.
night openhope, speaking of personally angst. I’m wishing you and Mr. OpenHope well. Tell him your latenight friends are sending good mental vibrations his way.
Oh, man. That’s just what I was doing.
Night, Spocko.
Reading about tainted seafood, I meant.
Thank you for the good vibrations.
I love FDL and recommend it to people all the time.
However, these same people often come back to me and ask “What’s with the Muppet obsession over there? Are you absolutely sure about this place” Then I have to do some fast talking.
Good morning all.
Hi eCAHN
I think I have a few butterflies.
(((demi)))
Butterflies are beautiful. Are they monarchs? *g*
Everyone will be very nice to you. No reason to be nervous at all.
Good morning. Must be too early for everyone. Marion should be popping in any minute.
Surfing around and everyone is still talking about the Mosque. Unbelievable what power the lunatic right wing holds. It’s all thanks to FoxNews, Rush et.al. We need a progressive news show. I can’t help but think that if we still had Phil Donahue doing the show he did 20 years ago, things would be different. Of course, people would have to have access to it and with companies like Comcast blocking some networks, there’d be no guarantee.
Did I miss something?
That whole topic and the way it has been handled in this country has just pushed me over into a state worse than despair. I think the U.S. has truly lost it.
demi’s hosting PUAC in 15 minutes. And she lives in SoCal, so it’s a real sacrifice for her to get up before 5am to be wonderful to us.
It’s not a sacrifice. It’s a pleasure!
We should at least acknowledge how early you got up!
Looking forward to it.
Thank you, thank you. Actually, this week I’ve been suffering from insomnia, and, well, you know how that goes. Fortunately, I really enjoy afternoon nappies.
Oh boy, oh boy.
I like afternoon naps even when I’ve had a good night’s sleep. *g*
hey perry — late late night is where we let our hair down and de-stress from the politics of the day. tis a time and place to cut loose, to recharge our batteries so that we can fight again the next day.
muppets have a long history on fdl — going back to when it was just jane and christy writing.
i suppose your buddies won’t like our saturday night cartoon late late night posts either *sigh* do they also object to the music posts the other 5 nites of the week?
tell them to stop by and say hi — i don’t bite.
