No zed. Just missed. 2 hour on site interview today. Strange company, they don’t do market research before producing new products. The work is interesting, but I’ve not got a lot of faith in how they come up with products.
Manager was cagey, said he’d let me know after he and the other 2 people review their impressions but no time frame. I’m sending a thanks for the chance to talk with you email tomorrow, will hit on a few things from my notes.
Had terrible scare this morning. Sara called from Vegas. When she got home from work this a.m. she found Luke (BF) almost unconscious. He is diabetic and his sugar had gotten low in the middle of the night. The bed looked like he had been having seizures. And he had a big gash on his head. He had no short term memory ability and couldn’t remember the last two weeks. She took him right to the E.R. They kept him for about five hours, did a scan and films and sent him home.
In my limited experience with head trauma you don’t send someone home that early. They also gave him morphine right away. WTF? I thought you were supposed to watch someone really carefully regarding their cognition. You cannot do that if they are full of morphine.
He has no insurance. I think they sent him on his way before they should have.
If you have a window that opens into a room with another window on another wall it looks like a fly through. Have you opened your curtains or cleaned the window
holy shit mary — sounds like they did a quick look, patched him up and sent him home. obviously he has a concussion with that memory loss. judas forking priest that is messed up
weather doodette forecast a heat wave fri sat and sun with temps in pdx in the 90′s and 70′s here at the coast. said the hot east wind is gonna start to blow through the columbia river gorge and heat things up.
when i was a teen, we had robins that flew into the house — turns out they were drunk from the pyracantha berries that grew as foundation plants along the front of the house.
Sara also said that a woman came into the room and asked for $250 to treatment. Luke was in no position to respond having short term memory loss. Sara told her they didn’t have $250. The lady then said I will take whatever you have. Sara gave her $25. I have never heard of such a thing.
If I do get an offer I need to tell other company that… I’ve got a lot better feeling about how they do business. i really have a hard time seeing how a a company gets to $500M in revenue without knowing their market.
Sara is a nurse. She just started her new grad training so she doesn’t have much experience with the E.R. She has to go to work tomorrow night. She said she knew something was wrong before she got home.
A long time ago, I was a junior in college, living in the dormitories. I ate dinner in the Commons in a big hurry. I had a rehearsal that went to 6 PM and a genetics lecture at 6:30 PM. I grabbed what was sitting on top of the serving area — barbecue something or another.
I got back from class about 9 feeling poorly. I started puking my guts out around 9:15, the dry heaves started not too long after. My roommate went and got the RA, who called the Head Resident, who called the on-call nurse at the Health Center who called the physician. By this time, it was near 11. The doctor said, “Take him to the ER.”
In the ER I was given a paper to sign before I could be seen/treated. I was in no condition to read the document, and I was told that it was just a consent form. What it was, was a promise to pay. Oh, and there was a consent for treatment there too.
Fortunately, I was still covered by my Dad’s health insurance.
I guess that’s the good-news, bad-news thing. The good news, she knows what she’s dealing with and what to watch for. The bad, she’s got to take care of her classes.
But this ‘system’ is soooo screwed up. He should have been admitted and kept under observation. And he needs to figure out how his blood sugar got out of control.
Luke has had diabetes since he was four. Apparently, the longer you have it the less able you are to feel the effects of it. He has been having problems for a year now controlling his blood sugar. He needs an subcutaneous glucose monitor but cannot afford it. He lost his job a year ago and has no insurance.
Spent the afternoon visiting apartments we DIDN’T rent. Made the right decision, as it turns out. Gotta get rid of these empty boxes though. Do you know how hard it is to get people to take donations of once-used moving boxes? Nobody wants ‘em. Also spent the afternoon hoping good hopes for Kelly and the Coloradans, to no avail.
This is gonna be a tough fall, folks. More people in pain with even less care from DC. And we’re gonna get blamed for everything that goes wrong, you just watch. Keith Olbermann certainly took himself out of the line of fire tonight.
That sux. And as a diabetic, it won’t cost him more than a small fortune to get health insurance outside a group setting. And in a small group setting, employers aren’t going to want to touch him because he’ll blow their underwriting history out of the water.
I’ve decided this White House doesn’t care about me or the people I care about. They have an entirely different constituency than I care about. They are, in fact, evil.
Oh, yeah, they can go out for recycling, or I could pay their cost to store them for a year. We don’t have room to keep them here, and self-storage isn’t cheap as it turns out. I’d like to see them go to a charity, a womens shelter or emergency teen house or something. Maybe that’s wishful thinking, but they seem useful to me.
If I can’t find someone tomorrow after five days of research, they go in the bin though.
Good for you, the some-blue. It’s early morning in NC, but I understand. 80 degrees now at 1:47. Every day is hot, most days also humid, some days oppressive. You have to live here in summer to know how evil that peculiar institution of slavery was. Otherwise is just a history-book abstraction.
Native New Yorker, moved – was moved – to Pittsburgh at 7 1/2. College years (10 of them) in Ohio. Working years in Pittsburgh. Moved to Charlotte in 2003, took early retirement as a bribe so my sister’s and my widowed mother would move from FL to Charlotte where her daughter, granddaughter and three great-grandchildren live. She was decaying and couldn’t live by herself, as such, but wouldn’t “be a burden on” her daughter and granddaughter. But it was okay if she burdened me. Hey, it’s why mothers want a son! So I/we moved her to Charlotte. She made it to 90 1/2. Passed on the same day as Ray Charles.
Hi Mary bad luck. Can they go to a different medical facility that will exray for contusions. Seizures in diabetics also cause the blood sugar to drop even more. Can he communicate now? All the best to them, Vegas is bad news to me.
THAT DVD I have and watched. I think of Joan Crawford and her 150-proof vodka when I hear that. That’s a positive. I used to play my Eagles records and enjoy the green Chartreuse (110 proof).
I judge a society by its pizza, its FM radio, its universities, and its museums and galleries, in that order. Charlotte is oh-for-four. I think it sucks.
I decided that before he took office when he agreed to give the farm away to Paulsen and the Goldman people. The increase in police power, surveillance and executive powers firms the oligarchy powers of the reich wing. Those trillion took away food stamps, education and safety net before they were on the congressional table. He played hardball with any progressive policy. The poverty we are seeing is a growing cancer on our democracy, Sadly he could have been our hero, Badly that is not his nature he is a Chicago panderer.
My roomy for a few years in Pgh is from Chattanooga, a very great rock drummer, a Hollywood script doctor, a playwright, and freelance writer. Never heard him whistle Dixie, not oncet.
Good. I got asked to do Virtually Speaking on Thursday night. It’s on Second life and Blog Talk radio.
I’m going follow up on the worker health via the big spill, but also the methods that the corporations use to work the media on this disaster.
I’m going to point out how they are working the “all better now” and why the media will fall for it unless someone is pushing new stories every day, and why we can’t expect the media or the states to do it.
Miss Suzanne, I have a favor to ask, if you would be a dear? Little Feat’s drummer, Richie Hayward, is fighting for his life right now, waiting and hoping for a liver transplant. I’m not a Little Feat fan (Mothers & Zappa, sure), but I figure the Pup cohort includes many of Little Feat’s die-hard-core fans, and they may not know about Hayward’s dire condition (although he can and does still play). A friend informed me, and also pointed me to the Little Feat website, where there’s a donation button to help Richie out with expenses and costs.
Could you mention Richie and Little Feat again in another comment or reply, and also embed an excellent YouTube video of the band with him playing? (I don’t yet know how to embed a link with my own words for the link.)
(The Little Feat website opens with a brief “Get Well Richie” video.)
*with fingers rubs left cheek upwards* I know how to return a favor.
So that Ted Stevens crash. I went to Daily Kos to find the conspiracy theory about it and was surprised not to find any, I thought they were know for running those :-)
Okay, here is my theory. Stevens hurt lots of people when he got busted. And those people remember, they know that small plane travel is standard in Alaska. They just waited until he was going to a very remote place.
But here is the kicker, he wasn’t the main target! Someone else on the plane was the primary Target! Steven’s was just a secondary one. I will tell you who the real target is when you subscribe to my newsletter.
“Spocko’s Secrets from A Parallel Universe!” Now available! Note the newsletter is in PGP format, send your public key to me and I’ll send you a copy in 256 encrypted format. Don’t for get to use the TOR server to mask your IP address!
Keep watching the Sky!
and its really easy to drop a link in the comments without having to learn to embed it
go to the site you want to link to (ie the utube of the song you want) and copy the url at the top of the page (i use my right mouse button and click copy) and then come back to this page and type what you wanna say — be sure to leave at least one space after the last word and then paste (again i use the right mouse to paste) and then click on that submit comment button
Did not get time for the bay. Today was BOS day for public comment. Crashed early then read the comments on Massacio he does such a great job and elicits a lot of interesting comments…got here 45 late. I amm suing the CA Coastal Commission and starting a safe parking lot, mentoring/Intern programm for homeless families with kids. takes a lot of thought, research and collaboration….I am swamped!
it really is easy aitch and fdl is a a reader-friendly site — hell, when i first came here, i didn’t know how to do any of it — and look where i ended up :) late late nite threads are the best for learning how to do that kinda stuff. loohoo has the bestest ever directions on how to embed a url but i figured you would like to learn the easiest with the least amount of steps
My brain surgeon relative lives in Charlotte and some other cousins. Safe neigborhoods are expensive. Has the highest per capita murder rate in the USA last time I looked.
The FDL site is very friendly in a Macish kind of way. I tried and succeeded the ‘block’ quote reply first time, figured all the other menu-reply items work the same way, and there’s always ‘Preview’.
Hey, bb. Didn’t know that about the murder rate. It is a ‘pretty’ city, though. From 100 feet up, you’d think it was a huge forest. Some areas/neighborhoods are deserted, waiting for expressway expansion. I think the traffic engineers studied Silicon Valley’s roadway system. What I see new here is what I saw in SV.
Erm, that’s the trickie I said I can’t do yet. I can cut/copy/paste better ‘n Bat Masterson or William F. Cody. No left/right mouse button, ever. Presently a trackpad very much like the iPhone’s tactility.
What really sucks about the way the states suck up to big business. BPs strategy of dispersant worked. Visuals sell fo too many people. Who is going to go out every day and put the real face on this disaster? Not the media. The states want tourism.
They are like the mayor in Jaws. “we can’t close the beach!”
Because they will lose revenue.
Suz can you believe the interns in Santa Barabara go out and find homeless camps bring them sack lunches so they are welcomed and try to get them to let them help them with housing, jobs and services like food stamps and SSI applications. This is an arduous task. Hopefully college interns volunteers will have the backbone to do it.
may be the police can help us locate the camps. The food banks and shelters should be easier.
I have no idea. Before, housing construction and all the attendant markets with it were booming. That stopped, period. A major shopping mall went bankrupt last year, but it still operates (I guess). A new multi-million dollar per condo high-rise went bust last year. I don’t read the local paper, don’t watch TV, don’t talk to anyone. Bank of America and Wachovia (now WellsFargo) are headquartered here. Thousands of K-!2 teachers were let go. Charlotte is on the short list for hosting the Democratic National Convention in 2012.
I spent 2 hours in Second Life today getting set up. the interface worked different than stuff I had used before and it rinsed me that not all interface conventions are obvious. Great thinkers like Don Norman write about all the design failures in some modern interfaces and tells people, it is not your fault that the interface sucks.
Nice tune. How are you tonight, Suz?
No zed. Just missed. 2 hour on site interview today. Strange company, they don’t do market research before producing new products. The work is interesting, but I’ve not got a lot of faith in how they come up with products.
hey mary mac — i’m doing ok — how’s sac tonight?
hey wmd — how’s the mt tonight?
Ahh thanks – this tune is very Eureka Spring-ish, and I’ve missed his voice here.
hey kelly — how’s denver tonight (besides pissed off)?
Hey Suze.
Do I need to write a diary on voting systems?
Very serene music. I like it a lot.
Had a few beers after interview. Waiting for my cat to come home now.
hey bct — i would love to read a diary by you on voting systems! how ya doing tonight?
hey margot — how’s ohio tonight?
Town’s a bit hot, and I’ll get over it.
any idea when you might hear?
A few more honest words…!
Aloha Suz…! ;-)
steph said it had been really warm. she said she got some torrential rain and that it got hot again.
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Manager was cagey, said he’d let me know after he and the other 2 people review their impressions but no time frame. I’m sending a thanks for the chance to talk with you email tomorrow, will hit on a few things from my notes.

We HAVE had some righteous storms.
There’s this other weird thing. Belch and I have lived here 10 years.
Birds, all kinds, Robins, Sparrows, Finches, Grackles have been flying into the windows of our house in the East.
Never happened before. Ever. Just this year, and it happens every day since just before 4th July.
Every day – SMACK! And 5 have broken their necks doing it.
beautiful song, Suzanne.
Sitting on the shore of Lake Chelan in eastern Washington, watching the sky clear of clouds, thinking of my best friend’s mom, after her wake today.
Had terrible scare this morning. Sara called from Vegas. When she got home from work this a.m. she found Luke (BF) almost unconscious. Kinda hot. It’ll be fall soon.
yikes — how bizarre kelly. never heard of such a thang
hey et — i’m so sorry for your loss.
If you have a window that opens into a room with another window on another wall it looks like a fly through. Have you opened your curtains or cleaned the window
holy shit mary — sounds like they did a quick look, patched him up and sent him home. obviously he has a concussion with that memory loss. judas forking priest that is messed up
I’m pretty good, thanks. How’s you?
We put tape on the windows to compensate for any glare/mirror thing.
And took down the bird feeder over in the Redbud.
It’s just weird, as if they all got stoopid somehow, in one season.
Why morphine? Yeah I thought the same thing. It does sound like they wanted to turf him out quickly.
weather doodette forecast a heat wave fri sat and sun with temps in pdx in the 90′s and 70′s here at the coast. said the hot east wind is gonna start to blow through the columbia river gorge and heat things up.
yuck.
I’ll adios. I’m not good company right now.

Morphine for what?? With the memory problems, he was almost certainly concussed, the scalp wound also suggests concussion.
I hope Sara can stay home with him for the next 24-48, or get a friend to sit with him.
g’nite kelly
If I do get an offer I need to tell other company that… I’ve got a lot better feeling about how they do business. i really have a hard time seeing how a a company gets to $500M in revenue without knowing their market.
Maybe that is Kelly’s problem. Some kind of drunken bird issue. AA-Aeronautic Anonymous
Sara is a nurse. She just started her new grad training so she doesn’t have much experience with the E.R. She has to go to work tomorrow night. She said she knew something was wrong before she got home.
strange that it is only on the east side of the house — we had robins coming in any open door or window — not just those on the front of the house.
I hope she took some careful notes, or can recall and write them now. This is so far from right, I hardly know what to say.
Hey, Suzanne Bay-Be! See blue skies today? Hey shining Pups from sea to sea!
The song – we used to say, That is so heavy(!)
I have.

words for the white house press secretary and those he speaks for
hey teddy — can you put them out for recycling?
the general — and the lead up to it — are gonna be rough. i fear you are right — we are gonna get the blame no matter now.
That sux. And as a diabetic, it won’t cost him more than a small fortune to get health insurance outside a group setting. And in a small group setting, employers aren’t going to want to touch him because he’ll blow their underwriting history out of the water.
What a country!
I’ve decided this White House doesn’t care about me or the people I care about. They have an entirely different constituency than I care about. They are, in fact, evil.
Nobody wants ‘em this time of year. Come May-June they’ll be in high demand near University campuses.
dayamitalltohell mary, that is just so fucking wrong.
i figured he didn’t care when obama didn’t even say my name in his canned response
What a lovely young woman and she can sing, too.

Bedtime for me, goodnight pups, good luck Mary, hope things turn out okay….
let me ask stephanie — she was tuned into a lotta the helping folks out organizations in pdx when she was there
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay?
g’nite teddy
Thanks Teddy. night.
pretty good, how’s everything up north tonight?
Good night, Teddy.
Good for you, the some-blue. It’s early morning in NC, but I understand. 80 degrees now at 1:47. Every day is hot, most days also humid, some days oppressive. You have to live here in summer to know how evil that peculiar institution of slavery was. Otherwise is just a history-book abstraction.
doing ok — i sure do like the temps up here a lot more than i did in the bay area (at least my summer temps — laughing).
my mom’s family is from ky — spent a lot of my youth in the south. the combo of heat and humidity made me miserable.
Did you originate in NC? I was born in winston salem and have a ton of relatives in NC.
Wait a minute. Didn’t you live in NOLA, too. And SF? Are you sure you aren’t me?
yup and yup and nope — you’re a blonde and i’m a brunette
You don’t have to call me…
the perfect country and western song (once he added that final verse)… iirc, i have that album on vinyl in the pod
I am not a real blond. I am grey and used to be a brunette. But you are taller than me.

I’m off to visit the sheets. Good night, folks.

this is mine — i forking love the accoustic version
hey bb — how’s your bay?
I wuz never a fan of castrati rocknroll.
His memory is coming back. His communication skills are better.
Vegas is mucho mal. Dark.

i copied and pasted the url for this thread in the comments so you know what it looks like and where to find it in your browser
The FDL site is very friendly in a Macish kind of way. I tried and succeeded the ‘block’ quote reply first time, figured all the other menu-reply items work the same way, and there’s always ‘Preview’.
Tar balls. Next gen mutations…yeah all better for them…the heat is off.
And here I haven’t locked my door in 20+ years. I don’t even know if I still have a key.
i’m a pc kinda person and found it easy to use. the chain thing is what you use to embed the url but that lesson is for when you are ready for it.
’bout time for me to head out folks. thanks for letting me spend a wee bit of time with ya tonight.
g’nite all *le poof*
How’s the job market there?
Nite Suz !
Erm, that’s the trickie I said I can’t do yet. I can cut/copy/paste better ‘n Bat Masterson or William F. Cody. No left/right mouse button, ever. Presently a trackpad very much like the iPhone’s tactility.
‘Nite, stay well, and thanks mucho!
My non-virtual name’s initials!
The murder rate probably is gang-war killings. Charlotte has always been a trading mart terminal. It’s a major node for drugs.
Did you Ever read the design of every day things?
Great book.
Nope. Tell me: is it still relevant, and is it genuinely useful despite its being somewhat ‘dated’?
I’m very averse to merely good writing; I seldom bother with any writing that isn’t excellent in every way.
Is the mic on? *tapping* Is this working?
