Bombings in Uganda Kill 64

Bombs exploded in two locations in Kampala, Uganda on Sunday while audiences gathered to watch the World Cup final, killing 64 people including at least one American. At least 65 more were injured in the blasts. The police chief in Kampala suspected the Somalian extremist group Al-Shabab of being behind the attack.

America is a little bit safer today due to the heroic efforts of intrepid Pajamajournalist Patrick Poole who blew the lid off of an IslamoMuslim bake sale face-painting-for-the-terrorist-kids fundraiser in Memphis… and not the Memphis in Egypt where these sort of things are as common as camel poop. No sirree. It seems that Patrick Poole was poking around some Muslim websites looking for Girls Gone Burqualess when he discovered a weekend of food, folks, and fatwas down Memphis way.

When the Senate returns into session this week, they may have a final vote on the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill. We know that Russ Feingold is the only Democrat who opposes the legislation, so that’s 57 votes in favor, pending a replacement for Robert Byrd. There’s a path to 60 without the Byrd replacement. Susan Collins has already basically endorsed, and Scott Brown proclaimed that he “likes what he sees.” Even Chuck Grassley may break ranks and vote yes on cloture. But Olympia Snowe had an interesting reaction yesterday:

At the time of his defection on Oct. 11, 2000, Mr. Tretyakov allegedly had been working as a double agent for the United States for three years while he was the SVR’s second-in-command in New York. From 1995 to 2000, he oversaw all Russian covert operations in the city and had more than 60 intelligence officers under his command, according to [a book by Pete Earley on Tretyakov].
