Welcome to the lonely battle of fighting for the rule of law, right winger Andrew Napolitano. But the time for the right wing to make these arguments was probably 2004, not 2010.

An Open Letter to Joe Sestak |
| By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday July 13, 2010 12:00 pm |
Small businesses don’t need more bread crumbs, Joe, they need to get what they’re already entitled to. Which won’t result in one dollar more of federal spending, but could act as desperately needed stimulus money.

Our Vision for Improving Public Education |
| By: Randi Weingarten Tuesday July 13, 2010 10:00 am |
At the AFT convention last week in Seattle, I outlined a vision to save public education. Our vision is:
- That every neighborhood school should be an excellent school that all families know they can count on, every year, for all of their children.
- To build on what works, and replicate it for all kids, in all schools, in all communities.
- Of schools where good teachers can work together to meet each child’s individual needs, where students develop their unique talents through a well-rounded curriculum, where all children have the support they need to reach their full potential.
- For teachers to get the necessary support to constantly improve, in an environment in which students have what they need to succeed.
That’s in sharp contract to the vision of what I call the blame the teacher” crowd, which has made some inroads among politicians and the mainstream media. Their proposed solutions inevitably come down to affixing blame – usually on teachers – rather than fixing schools.

Ben Nelson Playing President Again; Wants Input on CFPA Director Before Signing Off on FinReg |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday July 13, 2010 7:20 am |
With Olympia Snowe joining Susan Collins and Scott Brown by signing on to the financial reform bill, many outlets have reported that this gives the Democrats the votes they need to pass the measure. That’s only half-true; Democrats may have the votes after a replacement Senator is named in West Virginia. But at the moment, the fate of the bill rests in the hands of none other than the still-undecided Ben Nelson.
