Finally, some justice in New Orleans.

Late Night: It Just Gets Weirder |

Golly gosh gee willikers, a federal court says we can drop the F-bomb. Which probably means the justices saw this You Tube video and uttered several expletives for any number of reasons.
However the court’s ruling doesn’t give Mel Gibson a pass. Didn’t he realize he was on notice from Hollywood at the Golden Globes this year when he was made to do the intro for Inglourious Basterds after his famous anti-Semitic rant?
Tales From Bizarro World |

I’m beginning to think that I may have really been onto something with my theory about Michael Steele and the DNC switching places with their alternate universe doppelgangers – it seems like I’ve been reading an awful lot of stuff that only makes sense in a world where all of conservatism’s principles are true.
BP Begins to Cap Well; Legacy of Failure Remains |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday July 13, 2010 5:15 pm |
BP sucessfully installed their new, tighter cap on the Macondo well yesterday, and will now begin testing the valves and the other functions. The goal is to fully capture all of the leaking oil from the well, and officials believe they can achieve that goal. This would not stop the drilling of the relief wells, seen as key to permanently closing up the spill.

The competitive three-way race for the open Florida Senate seat has some interesting new developments. Charlie Crist is pushing to place an offshore-drilling ban on the ballot.
Appeals Court: An F-Bomb Every Now and Again Won’t Kill Anyone |

A federal appeals court today struck down the Bush-era FCC’s indecency statute, saying that “fleeting” obscenities made in live events or other broadcasts were acceptable under the First Amendment.
America to Congress: Start Packing Your Bags |
| By: Jon Walker Tuesday July 13, 2010 3:05 pm |
Voters have every reason to despise their current members of Congress. We have nearly 10 percent unemployment, no economic turnaround in sight, an overwhelming feeling that Washington is filled with corruption to benefit Wall Street at the expense of regular people, and a Senate stuck in endless gridlock, incapable of passing simple laws to help people.
And Nelson Makes 60: Financial Regulation Reform Could Be Law by Thursday |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday July 13, 2010 2:30 pm |
Multiple outlets, but led by Jane Kleeb at Bold Nebraska, have confirmed that Ben Nelson will support the financial reform bill. It’s unclear what Nelson got in exchange for his support, but that was a pretty quick turnaround. Maybe Harry Reid told him that his objection to no Senate input on the head of the new consumer protection bureau was totally ridiculous, because the position is subject to Senate confirmation. Perhaps Nelson just said, “Oh,” and moved on.
