Anyone following the Administration’s shameful treatment of Shirley Sherrod also knows that the entire episode began with a premeditated act by Andrew Breitbart, an unethical right wing thug who knowingly smeared both Ms. Sherrod and the NAACP with an obviously and misleadingly edited video.

Maloney Letter Supporting Elizabeth Warren for CFPB Has 39 Signatures |
| By: David Dayen Wednesday July 21, 2010 6:30 pm |
Thirty-nine Democrats, including a substantial portion of the House Financial Services Committee, have signed on to a letter distributed by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) supporting Elizabeth Warren to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that will come into being as part of the financial reform bill to be signed today by the President. Warren, a favorite of progressives, invented the concept of a federal consumer protection agency for financial products, yet some reports with anonymous sources say top officials at the White House are resisting naming her to be the first director of the agency.

The results are in from the Nora Dannehy DOJ investigation into the US Attorney firings by the Bush/Cheney Administration. And, shockingly, the Obama/Holder Department of Justice just cannot find any conduct, not one single instance, worthy of criminal prosecution.
Paradox? What Paradox? Health Care “Wins” Come When There Are Immediate Benefits, Not Distant Promises |
| By: Jon Walker Wednesday July 21, 2010 5:00 pm |
There has been a lot of talk about the supposed “Obama Paradox.” It’s the idea that President Obama is raking up “wins,” signing into law big bills with fancy names (regardless of whether they will actually do what they need to), yet Democrats are still dropping in the polls. A big part of this problem is clearly the poor economy. No matter what accomplishments Democrats can claim, as long as official unemployment is around 10 percent and not dropping, polls will be poor. When addressing this paradox, it is important to realize that from a political perspective, one of the Democrats’ biggest “wins,” health care reform, is so currently ineffective, it’s almost as if they didn’t pass a new law at all.
If Climate Bill Stalls, Oil Disaster Response Gets Sidelined, Too |
| By: David Dayen Wednesday July 21, 2010 4:15 pm |
It’s becoming clear that we’re not going to see a climate and energy bill in 2010. Harry Reid has backed off his timeline of starting the debate next week, now saying “We’re going to make a decision in the near future.” John Kerry and Joe Lieberman are playing for time as well.
What does this mean for the other parts of the bill that were going to be shoehorned into a climate and energy package?

How Many Democrats Does It Take to Stand Up to Andrew Breitbart? |
| By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday July 21, 2010 2:45 pm |
Barack Obama ran his campaign on progressive messaging, but he basically despises liberals and hired a White House staff full of people who share those sentiments.
Rahm Emanuel’s “f*&king r%!rds” comment is symbolic of a multitude of anonymous slams against the left that are readily offered up by administration staffers to any member of the press willing to transcribe them. The White House does not want any whiff of association with the people who gave them their jobs, and it’s no wonder the President’s biggest supporters in the blogosphere are former Republicans.

| By: Teddy Partridge Wednesday July 21, 2010 12:30 pm |
