the coast range is between the coast and portland no matter which way ya go… i hope on 6 to 26 — takes about an hour and a half to two to get to portland — astoria is about an hour north of me so it is shorter and faster to take the direct route

*waves* the eye is on long-term healing mode now (silicone oil to hold surgery in place for 6 months to a year, once the oil is removed i should be back to normal vision). Still wearing an eye patch because otherwise i have very strange double vision which makes it difficult to go down stairs or drive. The upside is that the eyepatch makes me irresistible to males … in the 2-8 age range. They think i’m AWESOME! Sigh.

LOL!! My folks dragged us through the high Rockies backpacking every weekend of the season. We sang those songs by the campfire. Bless the 60′s, when mountains were empty of tourists and the fish were native.

I was thinking about a lot how things actual happen in DC vs how we think things happen. And I was thinking about how the “real” media use blogs for story ideas with out attribution. I want to use the media’s disdain for bloggers to force them to verify various people’s thoughts on Warren.

What triggers it was seeing how Dday’s question in a teleconference became, “real news” not because he asked the question, but because of who responded.

I was also thinking about tboggs article today about the conservatives ginning up stupid excuses to attack Warren. “Sloppy with data”

So I thought about how we could help flush out the stupid excuses in advance of the hearings so that we could beat them down.

I was thinking about using something like the Citizen whip tool but with a twist.

One thing I noticed about the public Whip process that Mike Stark found was that people really didn’t want to be on the record. When they did they used weasel words to avoid consequences if they change their mind in the future. Part of the problem was that Mike’s work wasn’t consumed by the “real” media like Politico and “The Hill” If they don’t do the work they need to confirm it. If they don’t read about it in their own publication it probably doesn’t exist in their mind.

We could gather both support and questions about Warren from lower level staffers. They would be recorded (recording them makes them crazy but it also force the issue upstairs to media people at a minimum.)

My thought was that after we get either yes or no on Warren and a quote about how they think or feel about her we let all the various media outlets know these people’s views.

The point of this is that then the various “real” media will need to confirm this (because they can’t accept the view of the DFHs) During this reconfirm process it would force the deciders to come up with more BS reasons than the ones I got from lower level staffers to confirm or not confirm her. The MSM would also have to keep going back to the real reason why she is not going to be confirmed. this would force Geither over and over again to say, “I don’t have a problem with Warren.”

This would be the first step.

To be clear, I do not believe that I will flush out any real reasons Warren will not be confirmed but we could flush out all the nonsense excuses like “sloppy data” from McMegan that tbogg mentioned. As you know, all this stuff is really done behind the scenes in private calls and meetings that we are never going to be in.

Part of the goal of this process is to draw out right wing bile for Warren early and then Warren and the rapid response confirmation team could be set up to help her bat down the BS. But I’ll bet she doesn’t have a rapid response team. However I think there is much love for Warren in the blogoshere and the media and we could unleash our people to bat down the nonsense, (in public at least) and the press will be willing to at least hear our batdown of BS to the charges.

The problem isn’t getting her confirmed — Obama could allow the GOoPers to tell him who to nominate and they would oppose their own nominee. It’s just how they are.

The problem is that Wall Street doesn’t like her, not even a little bit. And on economic matters, Geithner and Summers and Bernanke have Preznit Obama’s ear. Since Wall Street doesn’t like her, Obama’s economic troika isn’t going to back her nomination.

Maybe Bernie Sanders and Russ Feingold and Al Franken can make the man see the sense in this nomination fight. But I truly believe that the first fight has to be to get her nominated. And we all know how much my fellow Hawaiian wants to listen to liberals/progressives.

That make sense. I was thinking about how they hire people to prep Kagan to answer questions. But how do they deal with public perceptions thrown out by the right wing media. They are always on the defensive. I want to actively court the “problems” with Warren. OR conversely find out if the conservatives want her. I think that she would be the kiss of death to conservatives but you would need to find out why they don’t like her. Harvard? Because she is seen as a liberal? On the other hand she could be used as a tool to hurt Geithner. One think I’ve learned is that you don’t know the answers until you ask the questions and then you deal with the data.

So I can spin both support for Warren and lack of support for Warren anyway I want, but I need to find it first.

I also am very very aware that it is the behind the scenes lobbying that is where the real heavy lifting happens. We could show just what a shame all their support statements are. Or, she might actually be confirmed because they already know that she is hampered by being under the Fed and under the thumb of a former ABA lobbyist.

I think we can make it clear to the conservatives that even if Warren gets in, they have already won. They didn’t get anyone doing real WS reform and reform at the consumer level is “chump change”.

One thing about Warren is that the press really like her, and they don’t like the people who would work against her. This will help when it comes to them doing their job and reconfirming the sound bites of support on non-support.
