Styx — Renegade (live Chicago 1996).
What’s on your mind?
spur! how ya doing?
‘Kin 3rd Zed . . . no value.
Howdy LLN I’m On Time Ya Bastids!!
Suz, hold the court, it could get ugly . .
I don’t feel confessional tonight.
So we won’t go into the part where I describe my one STYX show.
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
hey newton — how ya doing? i love how these guys look like they are having fun on stage.
HR screen with another company today, 2nd phone screen with company from last Wednesday tomorrow, on site with today’s company on Friday.
when it rains it pours. Sure hope I get at least one offer out of all this.
has cooled off a lot. drove over to the coast this evening and it was FOGGY
hey wmd — i sure as hell hope so too. you are seriously overdue for some good news for a change. how ya doing?
hey nahant — how ya doing?
Doing OK. My son has been encouraging me to work on fitness; bought me an exercise bike in December, then paid for hydrostatic weight tests. I did my second dunk yesterday. I’ve lost 17 pounds of fat, gained 5 pounds of lean mass since April 23. Gaining lean mass is really good, it means my metabolism will be getting faster and future loss will go faster.
I Was Born In The Desert
Ok, not so STYX or topical . . .
But it’s happening in the jams local, and the local putz’s can’t get it right despite they call it for the 1920′s Version They Know From Original Writer.
I’m tellin ya, an out of tune fiddle and voice is a horrid thing to deal with.
I was born in the desert, raised in a lions den.
How effin hard is THAT!
Now, don’t be mean.
Glam rock led me to punk rock which led me to opera. And just about all of those are despised but delicious fun if you do them from the inside.
*where are my goddamn heels?*
I can still play Renegade and Pieces of Eight and Grand Illusion from memory – hah!
So many things on my mind tonight. Is Glenn Beck’s impending blindness caused by gonorrhea, contracted via “money shot” from Andrew Breitbart? I’m not making any accusations, that would be irresponsible. I’m just wondering.
Also, Brammo’s upcoming electric motorcycle looks pretty damn cool, but not as cool as the things Ducati’s coming out with. Nor is it as cool as Fugazi releasing 15 years worth of live shows online, available for download. Which is poised to be on the verge of happening.
And in that vein, I’ll be in the Waiting Room.
hey kelly — how’s denver?
hey loohoo — how’s socal tonight?
Was about a girl AT the show, not…
I went because…
No, never mind.
without petitioning for forgiveness, how can you be saved?
hey mac — how’s noo yawk city?
It’s bizarrely cool. After being bizarrely hot. Go figure.
do them from the inside.
do them from the inside.
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, . . .
You need to sing more rock n bluegrass, hoss.
“If ya can’t believe me, don’t make it hard to believe in you.
“If ya can’t believe me, don’t make it hard to believe in you.
You all know we need each other,
Darlin I know that it’s true.”.
I was born in the desert, raised in a lions den . .
What’s cookin hoss!
hotter than the wrong side of the Styx
hey hannibal — how ya doing? haven’t seen your fonts in a while…
g’nite all (slithering off)
No – you need to sing some more opera.
I’m mailing you some heels and pearls – wear them, or else.
Enter with panache, I always say.
I’ve been pretty good, just enjoying life. I actually logged into Facebook today, which I haven’t done in months. I stayed on there for a whole minute before logging off in disgust.
Lord, one of them greats . . .
I’ll try to get with the program, I been all over Seminal and I’m diggin my fav bluegrass stream.
“Carry your weary head to rest,
Doncha cry no more.”
n’yet but maybe soon?
I listen to the music of Colloidal Silver.
Keeps me fit as a fiddle.
Hey Larue, how’s the midnight writer?
hey plove — how ya doing tonight?
Did He Say Ducati? Killin me.Gimme A Desmo 900 Any Day!
Well, it has been on my mind. At first I thought it might be oral gonorrhea, perhaps given by Dick Cheney, but figured that was pretty unlikely, given old Dick’s health, he likely can’t get an erection. Let alone turn Glenn Beck’s face into a glazed donut.
Just listening to Flight of the Chondcords
if you breathe my toke I’m guaranteeing you choke…
an out of tune fiddle and voice is a horrid thing to deal with.
Not if there’s firearms handy.
hey talcott — how ya doing tonight?
Yeah, they’re coming out with some new toys. A new 848, and they’re long rumored Vyper.
hey db — how ya doing
Let alone turn Glenn Beck’s face into a glazed donut.
Heh. You know how that’s done, right?
I’m doing right fine.
Tickling the molecules.
I will not be a victim.
N my wife won’t wear them, either.
But I WILL help you sang harmony in the grass/blues/americana.
And once you learn, I’d stand by your side vocally, a 3rd or 5th or 7th away above or below.
And I mean that, Margaret.
That’s a great song!Kind of reminds me of the song in this cartoon.
I just want to know, Suz.
Hi Folks, I’ve got 2 cups of buttercream frosting and no cake to put it on. What do I do with it?
hey spocko — how ya doing? make brownies or cupcakes?
OH forking dawg’s sake ya didn’t.
That’s as bad as Kelly goin high heeled SF Two Tuns Of Fun on us all.
evening, Suz – firegods
I made a chocolate layer cake for the inlaw’s anniversary and the recipe made about 2 cups of frosting too much. I might make another layer cake, it was dead easy and tasty. The frosting was complex and touchy. I won’t be making it again anytime soon.
Or I’ll just eat the frosting out of the bowl. :-)
What a DELIGHT to see yer fontage!
Yeah, but this jam occurs at an artist’s colony, and they insist on non violence.
Frankly, Frank, I thing that a bit of throttling of the beast in the late evening shadows in the darkness would do us ALL a favor.
Alas timing is everything.
Rock on DB, thanks for all ya do!
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay?
Walk like a man
ya could use some to top off a bowl of ice cream instead of whipped cream
‘artist’s colony’…Good lord, what’s the world coming to when such creatures congregate freely and openly in the midst of civilized men?
I always dreamt long ago as I was riding Truiumph 650′s, and Honda 750′s, of being on a ’71 Norton Commando 850 (kit).
And I dream of the Ducati Desmo still, the 900 of the 80′s.
And I dream of the BMW’s that can do 160mph and out corner any Jap Bike at that speed in the 70′s and 80′s.
I always rode the wrong bike. I couldn’t afford them Euro Monsters!
God they were monsters, and apparently, still are!
Yeah . . . . ;-)
like a woman
Yeah, we did this a while back ..
Angst, it’s what Devine don’t have for straight people!
Straight teenagers, for that matter.
Oooo weeee oooo weee oooo . . you can’t beat that shit, hoss.
those were the days
Yep, it’s a grand thang smack dab in the middle of Sacramentomato!
And they pick and host jams weekly.
I bring beer, they play and sang, and let me do so too!
I’m tellin ya, it’s gotta be commie!
160? Hell, there’s video of a guy on a BMW doing 186 on the Long Island Expressway.
what happens when ya don’t bring beer?
Boy, this takes me back. I actually went to one of their concerts, although by accident. My nephew and my son were going and ended up with an extra ticket when someone else that was supposed to grow dropped out. So they invited me at the last minute and I thought, what the heck. Although they were not one of my favorites, I thought it would be a fun excursion going to the Chicago Amphitheater. I must say, I liked the group a lot better after the concert than before; enough to buy an album.
One group I saw in concert that I really didn’t like after the concert was Steve Miller Band. Saw them in concert at Comiskey Park with the Eagles and Pablo Cruz. Both the Eagles and Pablo Cruz were great, but Steve Miller Band was terrible. I figure their true claim to fame was due to good studio musicians and plenty of doctoring of the sound.
I’m selling my 2003 boxer.
Heh, made me laff . . . .
When I don’t bring beer, or whiskey, I don’t get there . . .
Dang ya made me laff . . . saved keyboard, though . . .
hey ann — how ya doing? been a while since i’ve seen your fonts gal…
Russian (?) Bear Footin
Bury me on my ’86 Honda V65 Magna.
Ah, Sacramento, hotbed of sociamalism – next you’ll be telling me they have paved roads and such there, not like the real America.
hey rond — geez its like old home week tonight! how ya doing — been a while dood — you still in florida?
hiya suz, helluva par-tay tonite!
hey teddy — how goes the packing? i’m kicking it old school this week with my videos.
Buckley’s Pop was a hero. A wierd, and strange misogynistic fuck, but a great scribe of things real.
Tim Buckley’s Happy Sad was one of the best 8 tracks of my time.
His Kid Is Kewl.
Hey Suzanne…oh yeah, melting down to a puddle, even worse than usual for FL in summer. I saw some bike-talk, and had to chime in. Been lurking a lot, just haven’t had much to add. How’re you?
not melting :) love life on the coast and am enjoying the soft summer days
Hoss, I’m still dreamin, and I’m still too cheap . .
Yeah, running late tonight. Usually up at 5:00 or 6:00 AM, so it’s almost bedtime, but when I saw STYX, I thought it was worth a word or two before bed.
there’s some links upthread to some of their other songs too ann.
God I hated boulevard bikes!
And that’s one of them!
But lord that V65 would last for miles and miles . . .
My old 750K Model Honda died a few times at 60K miles.
Top and bottom ends just worn out the way I rode it.
I found pickers, hoss, they are easy prey, just like at fests.
Food, likker . . .
Never mind the politics, the hot bed they ain’t, to my surprise!
Conservative Pickers! What a downer.
My favorite STYX tune-
Suite: Madam Blue
that cut is a house fave here.
this one, two
The thing about the big Magna, though, it’s just as good going cross-country as cruising the boulevard.
There are not any songs from Goodbye/Hello and Happy Sad I don’t like.
Awesome music, wierd, and so was Timmeh.
A shame his son really never got to meet Pops.
A shame Pops Buckley left us way too soon.
Interesting, he made it out to the right coast . .
And you know of him.
damn. I missed the 100.
ah double crap.. i did it again — can ya tell its my monday
We are getting close to the end, the movers come a week from Thursday.
I know they hope the surprise scaffolding that appeared on the sidewalk yesterday is gone by moving day. “Look, a maze!”
hey senator — how ya doing?
Fine and dandy. And yourself?
Sure! But I’d do a BMW xcoutry, any day, before a V65.
If I had my druthers.
For handling, gas, mileage, turning, cornering, comfort, suspension, performance and mountain and desert capabilities.
Even a 650 BMW.
oh lardy — big bulky objects and mazes are usually a bad matchup
Oh shitz, ya done it again.
kicking back… token is curled up at my feet. bailey cat is on ‘her’ chair.
aawww. sweet critters.
Ted, er, um, MR. Partridge, yer movin?
Just how painful are the memories?
How long ya been where ya are?
Sigh, I HATE moving . . .
Bless ya, yers, and good luck with teh moveh . . .
And I meant that.
With that harmony, if yer kewl, we is kewl . .
I’ll take the 65, and keep that other 12 grand in my pocket. :)
“If I Had My Druthers”
One of the greatest gal groups of all time, and one of their best.
Geebuz so far gone from The Shirelle’s ya frighten me.
And it’s a classic!!!
time is on
i gotta say i do have some strange musical associations dood. sometimes it does give me pause…
oooooo love irma
Reminds me of this, long back then . .
A Twilight Zone
another classic … such a dark song with a driving beat
Well, ma’am, I gotta tell ya, at camp jams, that’s a desired quality.
Keep it coming!
another dark song i love
Nobody’s going to listen to this whole thing, but it’s absolutely my most favorite song to play live, ever…and do people freak out when you play something like this:
Pink Floyd: Echoes
Good lord, when men were men, and women were women . . .
Eh, sorry . . .
Yeah, Dee Dee Sharp!
Gal sangers of the early 60′s.
Too many to get me started . .
The Most Wonderful Summer Of My Life.
Baby I’m Yours.
It’s My Party.
Judy’s Turn To Cry.
A bizzillion others.
and now, a short break for a commercial message.
Yep . . . good call.
In the vid biz, it was a big hit back then.
Early times for MTV.
wow rond — i can see why. tisn’t the usual floyd cover. how cool dood.
where there is one there are two
I remember when I could dance like that. Fun!!!!!!!!!!
Good and you? sry to link and then come back later, but enjoy reading FDL
threads in one pass ;)
By the way I love Styx what a great post! I defend them all the time to my
snob friends(and Tchaikovsky amongst others). I confess to actually liking the
‘syrupy’ love ballads the most. Have a great night everyone!
what a find…thanks for that mac
Thanks. It was awesome. We used that same 2001 clip, projected on a screen, while playing it live. Peoples’ mouths would hang open.
Yep. So much of what they did was dark.
But what incredible musicians, and Morrison to front.
I got nuttin but praise for them all.
Morrison, Manzerak, monster git picker Krieger, and Dunsmore on stix.
They went insane in their time, and I recall Led Zep 1 and 2 shortly following it, that was nutz.
And then there was Creadence Clearwater with THEIR first release, all at what seemed the same time.
And there was all the other stuff. From ’65 to ’71.
Insane, all of it, insane.
Never such a glory of music and such mixing genres to make new stuff.
glad you enjoyed the video talcott. g’nite and hope to see ya again soon
My favorite comment from the linked video:
It’s like having an orgasm while having an orgasm.
Now, that’s a good song.
this song was my first ‘non-radio’ exposure…. heard it on an 8track player in a metallic rust 69 dodge charger and my boyfriend (driver) and i were both wearing yellow tinted aviator sunglasses.
We did that stuff and more in junior hi school . .
Line dancing, The Stroll . . .
God the perils of a Junior Hi Dance . . .
And the joys when ya KNEW the English Leather got her to ask you to hit the floor!
Hi Suz and everyone, had to reboot and damn Firefox wouldn’t open up for 40 min. grrr
I can honestly say, I don’t even know that song!
hey margot — are ya running the most recent version? 3.6.6?
In New Orleans we did the gator. don’t ask.
much obliged and glad to be.
The girls were doing ‘Heaven Scent’ and to this day, it still slays me . . .
I’m such a putz . . .
Wear Yer Live Like Heaven . . . ;-)
The dance or the love?
now ya understand why i have such a crystal clear memory of it… it hooks
‘night, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
hadn’t heard that in an age.
aces, Suzanne, aces.
No, I usually wait awhile…you think it’s not too buggy?
PS I’d never heard The Spy before either, great song!
I am SO slow, about the tintened sunglasses and such.
‘K, I get it . .
Still, never heard that one, regardless of any influences . . .
first song, second side of the album morrison hotel iirc. i think i have every note of every song on that album memorized
Lord, what kids.
Lil Maggie! Jam It!
it was 1970 — charley had just come home from his year in nam. what can i say :)
ya coulda said ….Baby, please
I gotta fly, birds and puppers.
Niters to our most excellent hostess, and all you LLN’ers!
We do it again tomorrow, dawg willin.
Wow . . . I was just sending off high school pals to Nam . . .
And two I know didn’t come back and a few that did, were never the same.
And I was worried about the draft, at 17.
And never went, at 18 or 19.
Those days shaped us, from ’65 as grade school kids, to ’71 as we graduated from hi school.
Before, and after, too.
Us boomers . . .
Again, niter’s Suz . . . thanks for all you hostess . . .
My first album was the Doors first album. A little shop in town played it non-stop, that’s the only record they had.
my first album was meet the beatles along with a record player. christmas of 5th grade i think. i used to save up my allowance to buy albums and stretched that paltry sum with a lotta 45′s i picked up at the thrift stores.
about time for me to head out myself. thanks for letting me spend a wee bit of time with ya tonight and for creating the soundtrack to go with all the conversations.
g’nite all *le poof*
