…to imply that stunts like [racist signs] are such a pressing problem that they will be one of the few selected for action by the NAACP is to concede that there isn’t much real racism to worry about.
And apparently as evidence of this, the paragraph continues…
It’s the sort of headline-hungry act that shadows the NAACP’s other priorities — one example being Michelle Obama’s admonition for African-Americans to “increase intensity,” which is now being spun by Limbaugh et al as a call for more racial outrage…
You seen NAACP, your complaints about racism are totally causing racist behavior in racists, how dare you.

About Firedoglake
Just another example of the deterioration, ignorance, and downright meanness of our sick society.
With his blond hair and blue eyes ,Beck looks like the ideal nazi .
Ironic isn’t it?
Last person in the world to be calling anyone a racist.
There’s no known cure for the itching and embarrassment of TNR eruptions.
Tell Dave if Racism isn’t a problem then he should go to a Tea Bagger rally with his own sign promoting inter racial marriage go on Dave prove us Lefties wrong!
I of course want to see video of what happens to Dave after he shows everyone his sign InterRacial Couples Hate Obama!
Bullies hate it when you defend yourself. Bye Folks:)
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd and Friedman this morning. MoDo, in “Sultan of Swagger,” addresses George vs. George: Steinbrenner really met his match with Costanza (and Seinfeld). The Moustache of Wisdom, in “The Spies Who Loved Us,” says the good news is that someone still wants to spy on us. The bad news is that it’s the Russians.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got toasted Thomas’ English muffins and your favorite jam. I’m running late this morning, so I’m off to try to kick it up into a higher gear and get ready for work. Have a great day.
In a just world, every wingnut in America would be flogged daily for the way they talk.
Some are, and their floggers charge them big bucks for the privilege.
But yes, it’s amazing, the lengths to which conservatives will go to bury the fact that racism is and always has been a driving force in the nation’s politics. That’s why the Cons freaked out when Michael Steele dared say what we all know but what Republicans don’t like to hear said out loud in public: That the Southern Strategy, far from going away when Nixon did, has in fact been part of the GOP’s toolkit for over forty years.
Since the years of domination by the wingers managed to prove out their ideology, that favoring the rich would bring us all prosperity, and it is dismally, fatally, Wrong, now all that is left of the right is racism, or so it seems. Oh, and homophobia.
Now Attaturk, doncha know the Tea Party is just a bunch of “loosely affiliated groups” and there are bad seeds everywhere.
Why, I’d betcha that there are more racists who hate Whitey in the NAACP than in all the Tea Party groups around the country since we all know there’s no longer any white racism left (except for those small groups who didn’t have a daddy who’d whump ‘em for saying bad things when they wuz kidz and ya can’t blame those folks for not knowin’ better).
(comment based on actual conversation recently conducted)
Weigel’s a fucking idiot. And he knows which “opinions” pays real cash money.
How nicely Weigel’s comments dovetail into Palin’s latest Rebecca Mansour-penned Facebook scold of the NAACP! He also yesterday used Andrew Sullivan’s own blog to browbeat Andrew Sullivan about asking questions about Palin’s wild ride baby story. Weigel used the same reasoning as Tammy Bruce, ” if Palin says it’s so it must be because Palin doesn’t lie, so anything you hear about Palin that doesn’t sound true isn’t”.
I predict Weigel is positioning and will join the Palin 2012 campaign as Press Secretary. Speaking of the Palin 2012 campaign, ET wrote he has heard she will announce her run for the Presidency at the Reagan Library on Feb 6, 2011, Reagan’s 100th BD. Sounds bizarrely possible doesn’t it considering Rupert Murdoch is on the Board of the Reagan Library. Notice how often she has mentioned Reagan in recent Fox appearances and in her Facebook screeds.
I know progressives have avoided the story as much as the MSM as too icky, but there is pretty compelling photographic and other evidence Palin was never with child.

The NAACP senses—knows—that the electoral momentum is building inexorably against President Obama. And they hope to slow it by playing the race card. They’re desperate. But the weapon isn’t what it used to be, thanks to greeting-card overuse.
Plus this: “If black Americans are suffering due to our current economic woes, Obama’s own policies are hardly helping them. The NAACP can’t bitch about ‘the Man’ anymore because the Man is Obama. And so instead it turns its racially monolithic vituperation on the Tea Party, which has never been in power, and has had no impact on the economic condition of black Americans—except to advocate policies (smaller government, lower taxes, radically reduced deficits, etc.) that would likely improve the standard of living of all Americans (blacks included). In fact, the Tea Party is a greater friend of black Americans, one might say, than the administration, and is much more representative of America than the NAACP.”
What is the basis of their allegations? Speaking from experience, I will say that the claims they seem to be relying upon are false. The NAACP has once again been duped by the left.
MoDo picks on George v George, but not George v Rush? Chicken.
So glad you’re here to speak on behalf of all the persons of color in the U.S.
So, so glad.
Like you’re a member of NAACP or something.
I am speaking as an individual.
Are you asserting that only people of color have the absolute moral authority to speak out against bigotry? The NAACP, the Democratic Party and ‘progressives’ seek to demonize, marginalize and silence the voices of many individuals who are speaking out against the growth of government into more of our economy and the private sector, spiraling deficits, corporate bailouts and entitlement programs that are projected to consume our entire GDP is not reformed! There is nothing racist and bigoted about THAT!
Playing the race card is akin to the fable of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf!” and the villagers are no longer listening.
Only 12% self-identify themselves as ‘progressive’ while upwards of 5 times as many people consider themselves to be ‘conservative.’
If Obama and the Dems are having trouble selling their economic “victories,” it’s because the public has become wise to the fact that these ‘accomplishments’ are nothing more than spin.
Um, yeah. So if you and your teabagger peeps are such big proponents for minority groups, why aren’t minorities beating down the door and swelling teabagger ranks?
“Playing the race card” is exactly what racists call it when they get called on their racism, by the way.
As for your number crunching on stats: many progressives also call themselves conservatives. I’m a fiscal conservative, for example; I abhor corporate welfare.
LOL.
Up is down in your wonderland.
Oh no, girlfriend, it’s that way in your white bread world, where the only real problem is brown people who don’t have the money to buy artsy-fartsy useless crap and have the temerity to say so.
If only those brown people would just go to the back of the bus and shut up, everything would be hunky-dory.
I’m not saying that and if you are attempting to project your own bigotry onto me you have failed.
Kind of hard to know what racism is when you’ve really never experienced it, isn’t it? It’d also be quite difficult to know what’s projection and not, making the use terms like projection unrecommended.
Rayne, girlfriend, you can’t win with indie. My fingers itched to respond to that first one, too, but I’ve learned my lesson with him/her. Indie does not respond to facts (nor bother to find out the facts actually listed by Ben Jealous that led to the NAACP’s statement).
It’s another case of do not feed.
Now, luckily, my plane will be boarding soon so I won’t be tempted further. Have a good day, everybody!
