I will watch Beyonce in a minute, but I have to say that I loved the Justin Timberlake special at Madison Square Garden some years ago. Heh, before dick in a box.
8:00 AM technical screen interview. Supposed to have some code emailed to me to discuss, seems a little strange. I asked about collaboration software to do live mark up, but no, just talking on phone.
Went to Grand Isle. Talked to a bunch of people. Meet more folks on the plane home who have been working the spill. I hope to have a diary up about it in the next few days.
When I had my wisdom teeth out, back in the dark ages, it was done in a hospital. I was 18, I think. My hospital roommate was a gypsy/Rom girl just a little younger. I was freaked out to learn she couldn’t read at all…think she had never been to school.
She was never alone, though; family around to keep her company all the time. She wasn’t exactly friendly toward me, nor unfriendly.
I just “took delivery” of a “broadband 2 go” gadget from VirginMobile; decided to buy it at the last minute and it got here tonight (well, I had to go get it since I was out when attempted delivery.)
Looks like a thumb drive, as which it also doubles. Supposed to just plug it in to USB and log on. It’s 3g, like a phone.
I should have tried it out by now, but so much driving around today I just pooped out.
Anyway, I hope to have internet even in my mom’s house, for the first time.
Hope so! So, since I won’t be cut off as usual, why aren’t I signing off and taking out the garbage, etc., etc.?
Guess I’d better. May check in later. Talk amongst yourselves. I know I’ll miss some good tunes.
Fully sunny day so stayed in the moment and still got stuff going getting some momentum but fragile. Helping people in a dowb econ should be a good business plan.
my sister is within the 5 min zone for our mom and stepdad — they moved to arizona to be closer to family… just in case. they were living in palm springs and my brother and i were in the sf bay area at the time. they like the hot so they chose arizona and my sister.
Hey Suz,
I find it very strange that no one mentions that Harvey Pekar died. I’ve left a few mentions in this thread, but nada. Am I too old? Harvey called the museum and we chatted just two weeks age. Sorry.
Thanks. Yes I chose the name because of the tradition and because I am such a blabber mouth. The village where Kofi Anan grew up in African also had the tradition and I got the idea from an article he wrote about the healing of conflicts through palaver..
Chris, I’m sorry to say I don’t. I looked him up yesterday, looked up American Splendor, but I didn’t recognize anything about it. I do remember R. Crumb, though.
Givin’ God and the fish a break for awhile…not goin out again ’til later this week…goin’ up in search of the monsters of the frshwater deep: muskies and big Northern Pike. But the Norske war canoe has fuel pump problems so I might hafta hold off ’til next week.
Still eatin’ on the Walleye from Lake of the Woods though.
I think we can all rise above who got the official 100. There are (apparently) more important issues in the world! Like wtf happened with bp tonight? Really, why the delay in good info?
This is what I sent out to the Facebook group BP we Demand Respirators for All Clean up Workers
Hi Folks:
Does anyone here know someone who is a firefighter or EMT in the Gulf Coast? Officials in the Firefighters Union or Association? I would especially like to talk to someone in Venice, LA or Grand Isle, folks who have had experience with safety equipment and might have training in hazmat situations.
Although NIOSH now recommends respirators for some workers, OSHA is still not requiring it for all. BP is waiting for OSHA to require it so they will be forced to provide them.
Until OSHA requires respirators I thought about convincing a respirator manufacturer to provide masks for people on burn boats and other workers close to the spill. The manufacturer would want someone they trust to distribute and fit the masks. Suzanne at FDL suggested firefighters and their Union or association. I think it is a great idea.
If a local firefighter group is willing to distribute and train people then I’ll go to the two big mask manufacturers. It would be a good act of PR for the respirator manufacturer. I would coordinate the donation, promote the act to the community and the media and describe why it is currently necessary.
That’s my tentative plan, any connections would be helpful. I think that using social networking stuff to help people is a good thing.
Right now I’m trying to downgrade my ipod touch to 3.1.1 from 4.0. and it’s not working.
It’s a fairly complex process but I’m sticking through it because 4.0 keeps crashing. Very annoying. It’s almost like Windows! Maybe this is their way of driving business to the Microsoft Zune.
Yes. I got two responses with suggestions. One guy is a firefighter and author who I met at a conference. Another one is from someone who knows someone.
I asked the firefighter to help me think through the process of approaching them. I want to think about what THEY need to make this work and also if it actually already fits into one of their training/public safety programs.
Since I know that they are also usually in the need of equipment what I might see about is if the manufacturer will offer some gear for the them in exchange for being the distribution point and the for the photo op.
good — yanno, some of the bigger departments are not on the gulf coast — places like fdny and chicago and la county have a lotta pull among other firefighters — hope ya can pull some of them on board. the added pressure of fdny saying they are on board carries a lotta weight.
Parasite that I am…
The new firmware for the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod Touch has seriously spit the bit, and my clients are furious. I am getting a ton of work back-grading their hardware, and soothing their nerves.
Meanwhile, I have a model of my own that has lasted so long that it doesn’t qualify for the upgrade that started the whole mess.
It’s a good thing. Huge tech influence grinds to a halt while result of hubris rains down in buckets.

8:00 AM technical screen interview. Supposed to have some code emailed to me to discuss, seems a little strange. I asked about collaboration software to do live mark up, but no, just talking on phone.

hey, am I here yet? or am i still on the fringes?
Wow, I’ve never been first! And I can’t really stay, drat. Gotta pack to catch a flight to MD to help out my mother tomorrow.
So far behind on chores it’s ridiculous. Still gotta write a note to my cat sitter and tidy up.
The only negative about having a cat sitter is you know somebody will see your place while you’re gone, so you don’t wanna leave it a mess. *g*
How’re you Suze? Spurious, hzven’t seen your nom in a long time. How are you?
hey senator — sizzlin! you still in n/o or back in sac?
The choreography is pretty cool on this one.

I still want to hear about that creamware jug you have … near Winterthur (am I right?).
It’s worked out so far, by design. I’m the one who’s within the five minute zone.
Do you live with or near your folks?
Fully sunny day so stayed in the moment and still got stuff going getting some momentum but fragile. Helping people in a dowb econ should be a good business plan.
Hi CE
my sister is within the 5 min zone for our mom and stepdad — they moved to arizona to be closer to family… just in case. they were living in palm springs and my brother and i were in the sf bay area at the time. they like the hot so they chose arizona and my sister.
Hi Suzanne. Doing good as long as the air conditioning keeps working.
We play the five minute defense.
helping folks is aways good :)
Hey PPDCUS,
Heat is tough, but we are coping.
HA! Could have been for all I know. I keep thinking Count Basie, Ella, something! Youtube isn’t helping out.

Closer than I care to believe.
talking stick — in case you were unaware of a lln tradition, the commenter who lands on the lucky 100, 200, etc., gets a hearty congratulations.

I thought that American Splendor might have spread the word, but not much it seems.
I think there was probably a comment waiting on the Lurking Mod’s approval. he was 100 for a moment.
Thank God FDL doesn’t have cameras.
Chris, I’m sorry to say I don’t. I looked him up yesterday, looked up American Splendor, but I didn’t recognize anything about it. I do remember R. Crumb, though.
Another quarter.
Exactly, Suz. Sorry CE, I’m ignorant.
that cake reminds me of that candy that was a bunch of colored sugar dots on a strip of white paper.

Not too close to Rome. I am in Dawson County on Lake Lanier which is more NE. Rome is a nice town. We are mostly NASCAR around here.

I got a little cheap Toshiba laptop and the battery is incredible. Far surpasses my mac laptop.
Good night, newt.
And Suz, I’m sorry, Twilight Zone I thought was great!!!! Sorry I came across a bit negative . .
not a problem… they were a two hit wonder iirc — and i’ve always loved a good drum line
Yeah! Great song.
