Btw, Fitz is a zed from the past…! ;-)
Hey, Suz! Warmed up a bit today. No socks and a sleeveless T tonight.
Hi guys. Just stopping by to give CT some grief. *grin*
Hey, CTuttle! Are you up or down tonight?!
our bananas split
Aach! I have to be so careful about watching anything anymore. I clicked on a youtube here two weeks ago and gave myself five viruses. It was a bitch getting rid of them. Hello LLN, and I don’t have a backlit keyborad, and am whining about it.
hey gnome — how ya doing tonight?
get on the line!!!
i’m barefoot and wearing a lighter long sleeves shirt. tis 63 and sorta foggy so there is some damp in the air that i’m chasing away with a small fire
Back to 78F…! Tough to be a meteorologist here in the Isles…! ;-)
evening, Suz
Good grief…! That is…! ;-)
hey ce — do ya have a lamp to turn on?
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay tonight?
evening, firegods
Getting ready to hit the hay, but waiting for my new little kitten to wind down. I rescued her a couple of weeks ago. She is turning into a real spitfire.
Evening all, that Mighty Mouse is mighty mighty! I forgot how mighty.
love new little kittens! gotta pic?
hey bg — how ya doing tonight?
Yes, I do. And I am doing so right now — but we are trying to watch “Public Enemy” at the same time. Light on, light off.
fine, Suz — massively busy week. Brought dad home from the hospital yesterday.
hiya CE
You’d think it would be easier for those cats to raise domesticated mice than to come all the way to Earth to catch some.
I’m just sayin’.
how’s he doing ppd?
Gnome! A new kitten? Come by Caturday tomorrow and tell stories!
Sheesh, I went off to do a few late evening tasks and come back to find Dr. Dick has gone off to bed. And the thread about anthro/feminism/disruption went merrily on without me. I’ll have to apologize next time I “see” him.
CT, was it your comment on an early thread that HI has no weather segment on its news, because any change in the weather is a news, not weather, story? That jogged me off my preconceptions for a moment.
hey cujo — how’s seattle tonight?
hey tejan — how ya doing tonight?
better, thanks — we still have a long way to go, though
FAIL Blog is a lot of fun.
CE, sorry about your viruses…that’s what I love about my mac. I guess most viruses are geared for PCs.
Flower pot, is an adorable bucket of trouble…! ;-)
AWWW. What’s her name?
Not as warm as yesterday, thankfully. How’s the coast?
Hey PPDCUS,
MrCE’s Mom diagnosed with breast cancer, for the second time, just this Friday. She is 82 and has had cancer three times already.
I was a tired pup today, gotta get some sleep tonight.
nice — overcast and cool with some sun during the afternoon :) love that fog bank off the coast
oh crap.. i’m so sorry ce
I’m good…watching the toon, now. Looooved Mighty Mouse as a widdle kid. Love the Walter Winchell mouse in this. Anybody else remember Walter Winchell?
Check out comment #5 at the Beach House – she was playing with the emoties. And pictures from when I first found her here. She has grown and gotten very brave.
Oh dear. Is she going to do chemo and radiation? So sorry, CE.
Dad’s 82. too. Mom’s 80 in August. It’s a challenge.
i do its time, america
ooooo whata cutie
I think cats use up most of their energy reserves in the first couple of years. Before you know it, you’ll be hoping she comes over to hang out with you before she falls back to sleep.
Thanks Suzanne,
We don’t know anything yet. Just sad. OTOH, she has lived an amazing life, and is a pilot, a lover of all things decorative in arts and furniture, and may survive this yet!
And yes, her name is Flowerpot because of where I found her. She is right next to the keyboard as I type. She may add a few comments. She tends to do that. Nope. She climbed up my back instead because a dog came in the room.
My mother turned 85 this May. When I spoke to her she said: “Isn’t it amazing that I’m 85!” – and I said, ” isn’t it amazing that you are 85, and that you KNOW it!”
gotta be optimistic. adding her to my prayer and warm positive healing thoughts list (right next to ppd’s dad)
high hopes
We just celebrated my aunt’s 85th b-day last month.
So sorry for mom hope she gets well with minimal discomfort.
Thanks, luv.
hey bb — how’s your bay tonight?
advice
CE, so sorry to hear that news. It is hard when people are really vital elders and then have difficult illness. It’s another thing when they are not so well to start with. I wish all of you the best.
I’m not sure I would be a fighter.
So how about some happy tunes gang? Damn, Suzanne, I have to keep turning on the light because I don’t have LIT keyboard!!!
Nico Pitney’s probable wedding song.
My mother turned 88 a little over a month ago. She knows what year she was born, but for some reason she thought she was 86. She keeps saying to people, “I was just so shocked to learn I was two years older this year.”
i think you will like that advice song — great songwriting humor (and i can dance to it)
Good night all. Mr. Gnome took Flowerpot into the living room to watch movies with him. Bucky my 115 pound “puppy” is in bed waiting for me! LOL
g’nite gnome

hey another year older
and, of course, deeper in debt
is about as good as it gets.
happy
Dat be a cute little kittah! Nice other stuffs too.
Thanks so much — you are a dear to respond. MrCE and I have four living parents, and we, at the age of 58 and 59 (that’s us). Every day is worrisome, and I thank my little brother for being near my parents in PA.
Walking Spanish Down the Hall.
Oh, Gnome, Flower Pot is adorable. So glad you found her.
My grown-up crew has almost learned to walk across the keyboard only on the edges, so as not to hit keys. When they “forget,” it’s usuallly F1 that gets banged.
They are relatively quiet these days, being 6 years old (!) (where does the time go?) Were two on my lap, now just one – washing herself.
I got a couple of packages this week and left the boxes out for their enjoyment – the boxes have been occupied ever since. Just right, apparently.
you say happy to me, I think who’s happy?
Back Bay was super sweet tonight light West wind tide in and calm. Did a double over and back twice good form higher stroke rate and good recovery. Came home and wrote some docs for Low Income Housing that IRS wants. Happy Happy and your bay?

CE, so sorry about your mother, and PPDCUS and others dealing with elder parent issues.
My mother, 91, has survived her gall bladder surgery of last month, and after a couplemiserable weeks, has gone back to her own apartment (in a retirement community) as of yesterday. She’s not walking to the dining room, but friends stocked her fridge, and she has a nurse coming every day, even the weekend, and will have occupational therapist next few weeks also.
And as of Wed., she’ll have me, too. I’m booked to fly out Wed. p.m., and return home a week later. As I told her, my main job will be to keep her from doing too much housework.
She put things away – stuff she brought from hospital, mail b rought in by a friend, etc., yesterday and today she’s so tired she “did nothing.”
I told her “nothing” is what she’s supposed to do, and she said the nurse told her the same thing.
Doubtless her stubborn refusal to goof off is part of why she’s still around. *g*
A woman on my FB who went to HS with me got sick and died this week. She has two cats that need one home. . .very tough and unexpected.
Can happen to anyone anytime I guess.
tis good she is back home among her friends and familiar things. recovering is hard work and she will appreciate you doing all the things that need doing– she can concentrate on getting well.
Heart of SATURDAY Night!
sad bg. is why we gotta enjoy every moment we can. i hope her cats find their one home together.
nice one.
Wow, good for your mom. Best wishes to everyone working with elder parents. My dad will have back surgery soon too.
Oh, that’s a shame, and as the caretaker of cat kids, one of my nightmares. I hope they are able to find a home. I keep saying this bunch is my last, in hopes they will not outlive me.
It helps having someone in the family close to the early bird specials, CE

Libya Sends Aid Ship To Gaza…
Mac and I are having quite the conversation…! ;-)
Picked upa couple interestng books today (at the library). Mostly for fun, because I’ve been fascinated with Pompeii since I can remember: Fires of Vesuvius; Pompeii Lost and Found” by Mary Beard. Interpretations based on the most recent excavations.
And – more political – “The Closing of the Western Mind” by Charles Freeman. Subtitle, the Rise of Faith and the Fall of Reason. A good description of what I often fear we are in danger of repeating 1000 yrs later.
And now I think I will go to bed and read awhile. In a few days I’ll be getting up much, much earlier!
iirc, i featured that video up top a while back.. maybe last year. derek is an outstanding guitar player — married to susan tedeschi (who i’ve also featured up top a couple times)
didja?
I’m a caretaker of feral cats. . .if something would happen to me, there would be no way to find them homes. One of the cats has been with me 9 years and still cannot trust being touched. One of these days I will figure out how to post some photos of the furry ones.
I know someone else who was in a bike accident about 2 weeks ago, TBI, has not gained consciousness yet though has had a few moments of awareness. Back in ICU tonight. Life is so strange sometimes.
Must leave all,
Thanks for the great thread.
yeah, but the mods say that you talk too much
g’nite ce
happy 100 mac

Two nights inna row, Suz, ya losing your touch?

Very good Tom. He must keep his good stuff from YouTube. Hard to get really good Tom for some reason.
Well, ya do have the evening off, tomorrow nite…! ;-)
and thanks to you for some great Tom Waits
I woulda spun one, but I can never find the one I want.
always looking for his “What’s New, Pussycat” cover. hard to find
monday is my fav day to have off….
its hit and miss — there will be nothing for a while and then a bunch show up. i always have to check to see if the video i plan on using is still available or have to find a substitute video.
I recall a concert in a little basement bar in MadTown with Tom Waits. Those were the days, eh?
That too…! *g*
oh you lucky dog — never saw tom. wow, a small venue even
Yep, I don’t even know if 100 people were there. I have no idea why I was there all things considered. I think wunna my roommates musta turned me on to it.
i saw george strait in a small club before he was doing arenas — was about 30 feet away and i was near the back of the room. i loved the intimate feeling ya get for the music in small venues.
strait
I saw him at San Diego State in a small theater in about 1975. Got to talk with him back stage before he sang, and my boyfriend and I had a shot of Jack with him!
Good evening folks! I’ve got a fresh pitcher of awfully good iced tea here. (and yes, this week I did have to break down and install the AC both at home and at the studio)
Hellfire. I ain’t much of a country girl, but he might get my attention. . .
hey beard5 — how ya doing? is that the long island or the southern sweet tea?
What a neat toon, thanks Suz.
Hugs to Christine E.
That rocks. I know he made a recording of a show he did at a place called Rafael’s Silver Cloud that was out on the highway near me a long time back.
Hey folks! I’m up in calistoga this fine evening. My old boss invited us to visit. Wonderful house. They are amazing people. It is so nice to talk to them. He is great at looking at the big picture and then acting on it.
The weather here is hot 92 vs 68 in SF. It’s a nice change.
I told my long story about the clean up and the respirators and he suggested I pitch the people at 3m on.a program to give some away. I told him I tried that idea with the lung association and they did nothing. He said, “ah but the sales VP at 3m has a PR budget!”
Now that NIOSH has started recommending respirators for off shore people they will have someone to support the need and not feel that they are defying BP. And make no mistake, a big supplier like 3m doesn’t want to cross BP. They need cover.
I thing a program to give respirators away after fitting and testing world be good. Then, when BP starts following the NIOSH rules they will sell masks. There are only two main suppliers. MSA And 3m. I just don’t want it to backfire on one Company. Oh maybe if I approach both of them! Joint giveaways!
hey margot — glad ya liked it. how ya doing?
*heh* All My Ex’s Live In Texas…
It’s sweet tea, but brewed with PG Tips, that way it’s strong enough to have some ooomph :)
hey spocko — maybe talk to fire departments… many times, they have drives for safety equipment…. and safety workers tend to stick together when it comes to being safe, whether public or private. and dang near everyone likes firefighters.
Very cool. Thanks!
amarillo
Oh, and I’m doing pretty good up here in the melting granite state. (why yes, the rocks are getting a little soft around the edges) Just finished an embroidered playing card.
yikes… and yay! gotta picture to share?
that’s a fantastic idea, and thank you for your diaries, they’re so well-written.

Here we go… the big picture and Ready for my closeup, Mr. DeMille
spocko, good luck with Bamboozle Plenty. They sure are working it.
Have a good night all, don’t let the kittehs break stuff while everyone’s hopped up on caffeine and sugar.
El Paso…
I’m fine, but I think the AC gave up the ghost. It was a valiant AC, served us well. (sniff)
So tomorrow I go to buy another cheap window AC.
g’nite bg
A great English tea (and notoriously strong stuff. 3 teabags is enough for 2 quarts)
that is delicious! such fine needlework

oh double crap!!!
what the heck is that guy wearing in that vid?
i’ll have what he’s having (laughing)
Thank you, that one was a lot of fun to work on. I’m currently working on the ace of hearts. and I decided I didn’t need to play it safe anymore.
There has been much maniacal laughter coming from my studio this week (*insert evil laugh here*)
*heh* Cool Water…
evil laugh
Ack, no AC! (It’s been in the 90′s up here in NH. I, delicate northern beard that I am, am not well adapted to those temps)
Wow! What do you do with them?

it was forking 95 on the oregon coast this week — on the forking coast! i was miserable as was everyone else — no one has a/c on the forking coast

Brilliant idea. Especially since one of my issues was distribution.
In my ideal world there would be someone to ensure they had a health test, someone to fit them, someone to train them in use and care.
The line I got when I talked to the oil spill clean up VP was that companies are afraid of lawsuits. So they don’t want to give them away with out training and signed waivers. I understand the fear, but I think if we can get some firefighters/EMTs in on the program it might help give us a distribution point.
The reason this has to be done this way is because the threshold triggers are out of date. The ppb or ppm of things like beneze are too high if you follow NIOSH rules but not high enough if you follow OSHA rules.
It is what OSHA says that will change what BP requires of workers.
cry baby!
Excellent! Just Like Me.
given how fdny was fucked after 9/11, all fire departments are hypervigilent about that kinda stuff.
and its really hard to argue safety with firefighters — they are recognized as experts and folks trust them and like them. if you could get fire departments big and small bringing pressure and reminding folks again about how the first responders and clean up workers were fucked after 9/11 — i think it would pack a powerful emotional punch. especially if ya get a supplier who adds their voice to the choir.
janis!!!
beer
Hopefully selling them, along with the other art I do. I’m hoping to have a show this fall “Text and Texture” a combination of my calligraphy art and my embroidery.
The three of diamonds has an interesting future ahead of it though. (more evil chuckling) It looks like the New Hampshire Republican offices will be renting it for one of their conference rooms. Muwahahahaha!
reeeaal nice, don’t think I’ve ever heard that. thx.
how cool beard! i hope the show will also be available online for those of us on the wrong coast
Dang! Suzanne is psychic! (I just took down a beer slushy from the freezer)
great advice. everyone in NYC loves the fire dept (except the cops)
well, what with ya having no a/c… (laughing)
Oh the evil laughter is because the NH Republicans will likely have the speakers and campaigns all in that conference room. And some of the art will be made by a seriously liberal gay artist, and they’ll be paying me for it…muwahaha!
I still can’t believe we haven’t heard anything from Kathleen Sebelius on this.
9/11 changed a lotta that — i even stopped calling them foundation savers
bwahahahaha
Cool! Any more pics?
I appreciate that. I always love to hear that about my writing. I spent a lot of time with professional writers who I’m usually in awe of. Because of that I love hearing that my writing works for people. What people don’t know about me is that I’m actual an accomplished speaker. I’ve done stand up comedy and coach people to give presentations. One of the things I miss about doing standup is you know quickly if your material is or isn’t working. With writing I don’t always know.
My old boss and I were just talking about comedy writing tonight. My humor is often tied to timing and How I say something not necessarily what I saw. For example I once cracked up an entire conference with a perfectly timed, “excuse me?”
One thing I’ve noticed in the SW, they tend to play El Paso, instead of New York, New York to close out the evening festivities…! ;-)
how cool spocko.
Not of the current projects unfortunately. Although tomorrow I may take some pictures of the parts for the ace of hearts. It’s hard to get the scale right though. I may need to photograph them on a dime so people know just how big they are.
by jove, i think we are gonna snare the elusive 200 tonight folks
(*prepares a humane trap with brownies and chocolate martinis as bait*)
Rest assured, you shall M’dear…!
Great idea. I’ll contact the firefighters in a town say “hey, if I can get the folks at 3m to donate 100 respirators and supplies would you be willing to be the distribution point and provide some fitting and training for people who want to were them in the gap between NIOSH’s recommendation and OSHA’s requirement?”
Thoughts on roadblocks to this idea?
All I Need Is A Miracle…
In November, an autobiography of Mark Twain is coming out! (Part one of three)
The only possible roadblock would be if BP controls the fire department too…
contact the firefighter union or association first…. don’t directly approach the dept….the brass might have to be schmoozed by the union or association
wow recently discovered

One of the reasons I was so sad that Netroots Nation rejected my panel was because I knew it would have been informative and funny. I’ve performed infront of crowds of 1,500 and was paid. I Coached people who have lead panel sessions. I’ve created or focused content for lots of people. But I couldn’t tell them that. I was just Spocko some guy who did some thing years ago.
Zed and 200…? Congrats…!
real carefully (whew)
such a disappointment — i am glad i’m not going — their rejection is just another reason i’m not going to break my streak of not attending every netroots nation that has been held
