It’s been crazy cool in San Diego, Petro! I’ve not had to turn on the air-co yet, and the water bills are fantastic! I know the pay-back is coming…

The Prairies have been in drought for years but this year, they’re flooded.

Steely Dan’s no great either imo!!! I so appreciate your knowledge and taste in music Macaquerman, strange that I’d disagree twice in one night!

Hey folks! I made Pad Thai again tonight. I ran out of rice vinegar and used regular vinegar. Still good.
hey spoko — love pad thai! how ya doing tonight?
Hello Suz and LooHoo!
Good evening and THANK YOU , Suzanne for that video!!!!!
I’ve got the” youngblood” musicians all saying they have The Animals on their IPods. I actually stole the cd from a good friend who loaned me one he found in the used record store. Just flat out refused to give it back. I love them.
But the youngbloods don’t know that The Animals were their age when they rocked these songs. They look at us and can’t imagine, does not compute.
My son just left for San Francisco today with his girl friend. First travel experience beyond family. I had to bite my tongue to withhold information and advice.!
My only suggestion was that when they go to Golden Gate Park they enter at Haight Street. And see if Hippie Hill is still there with the music and friendliness.
Such an apropos song.
hey openhope — how ya doing? glad ya liked it
Eye sees you!
Pretty good. My diary got “front paged!” woot! I would have picked a different photo. An attractive person getting blood drawn.
I’m listening for the second time. Code? Boz?
Anyone seen these? I love Blu.
happy 100 bg!
Saw Eric Burton and The Animals in a live concert in Reno in the little Pioneer Theater! Walked from home both ways, in the summer. It was an excellent time! And good music!
Tell us a tad about yourself. Location and interests?
you been trapped into a steely danitude
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A0wGO3c2T8
wow bg — never saw blu before – how forking cool!
You gotta see more of it, they are totally cool.
Jesus. Can we ever impart “wisdom”? Guess it’s just like when our parents tried! A futile endeavor!!!
how forking kewl pellora — haven’t seen your fonts in a while — always a pleasure
am still watching — amazing
Okay, pellora. Were you smoking joints at the time or not?
I dedicate this song to you, because if there’s anyone who “walks between the raindrops” it’s you.
Whoo bb on the 100!
Open Hope. Hot tip for you son. The DeYoung Museam tower in GG park is free, great view of the park and city.
Then he and she can go down 8th Ave. To Clement and turn left to go to the May Wa Asian Market. It is a real experience. Live fish, strange veggies, odd cuts of meat, chicken feet!
I usually take guests there after a trip to the park.
HA!
i used to live on 8th ave between balboa and cabrillo. loved clement street. want to see the new deyoung and academy of sciences — tis on my list
Doing well, actually. We’re finding balance after the storm as a family changing into “elder care”. It really sucks that Americans don’t have this stage in their culture because of the Pioneer-Move Forward-Leave your roots basis for our society. Not all Americans; but people my age had no idea we’d be caring for our elders in our middle age. At least not in my world. Wasn’t something marked on Life’s Calender.
I sometimes envy old cultures where that’s a common thread of life.In my imagination, an easier flow into the next stage of life. Except they tend to be less than progressive and view women as the providers of that comfort.. So there’s that.
HA not at I
Canfield did the gotcha on ya….. and he did it well…. that song is …lush.
Very cool!! Thanks. I’m going to write that down in long hand!!!!
Aloha, Pel…! How’re you and your mom doing…?
Eric Burdon is still hot, even though older, wider and silver-haired. Hot!
*sigh* there is always that….
Hi Pellora!
We’re doing elder care right now, huge. And it’s me and belch. One sister is participating. So not just a women’s thing BTW.
Here is the diary if anyone is interested. http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/59026
You know what’s coming next…
Hot hot hot.
Me three. I am waiting to see if Little Momma needs meds tonight, then I’m to bed. . .
hot
pretzels?
or chains

That makes it officially muppet, Animal and Yokohama Novelty night.
Well, we have 4 months of rent in their assisted living situation in the bank for the old ones. Belch just got approved for a silicon treatment for his knee, versus a replacement, so we’re hoping that takes and the old one house sells prior to dipping into our personal savings.
We have about 5 months, depending on how the knee costs work out. It’s a nail biter.
yikes! i hope the silicon works — replacements are a bitch dood. took me a solid year to recoop from that surgery. fingers and toes crossed for him
and Hats and Hooters
No – I was thinking more along the lines of “Gaucho”
Oh, by the way, have you ever ordered BBQ Chicken Feet in an Asian restaurant when you where the only table of Round Eyes and the waitress was trying to guide away from that item in halting English. And then everyone is watching you eat them? Sometimes I curse my culinary bravery.
Lot to be said for cultural foods. Western cuisine has a few items that totally gross out a large population of the world.
I know how that is. . .My mother is thinner and thinner every week, some weeks are up, some not. She seems good this weekend, but she does not eat much. I am not on 24/7, but she wants to stay at home and I hired 24/7 care. So I am here Friday-Monday with her.
Yeah, but you can’t sell that to the youngbloods. :>
I have to say that my brothers have more patience with my elder-mom than I do. I was never cut out to be a nurse. A teacher of youngsters, yes.
I’ve heard that song but never knew who did it, thanks bg.:)
I was just listening to Low Sparks
little stevie
I remember when I first heard that. I went to visit my best friend in Gunnison, I think it was in the late spring, must have been 1972.
cheap, Kelly, but not free
and good luck with the silicone knee treatment. the results are usually pretty good.
That totally matters.
I’ll tell you, being there, and bedside when my sister passed totally made a difference. It really did.
One of the finer things, and most difficult of all things a person can do, is be bedside as the person you love departs this world. Sounds weird, but it’s true; the night my sister passed was one of the human tests that I feel me and belch passed together in a truly great manner, together.
If possible, have a pro with you. Someone from hospice. They know how the whole process works, and they’re invaluable.
Best, Kelly. I mean that. So hard for those of us in the boomer group. I get so pissed at the people wanting to deport immigrants. We need every one to help all of us aging folks!
Interesting that the birth rate in Mexico is now 2.1. There are not Americans enough to take care of us when we’re old. The Mexican-American birthrate is only 2.6….
I am a hard taskmaster. She had to learn to find her balance point and everyone else was being, “Oh, good, you’re walking. Let’s not think about the Macular Degeneration blindness and the fact that you fall. I was actually screamed at that Audrey wasn’t blind. She sees shadows and she fakes it. I know. We’re both artists.
I had to be the constant bitch that poked her in the back to find her balance point, who harped that a walker is not a shopping cart; Find Your Balance and the walker/cart is just a guide.
Fucking brutal!!!!!!!
I took care of my dad and was holding his hand when he breathed his last. I have done plenty of death in my life. It is a great teacher. And a gift, imo.
You gotta shake it baby!
Love that song.
as much and as often as we can.
good night to you and all.
g’nite mac
Yes, not just a woman’s thing. I’m being whiny.
My husband was incredible helping his parents through the last stages. Many men are incredible.
Mea Culpa.

I remember I was at a party on Stanford in Albuquerque. I just had to sit there until the song was over…if I’d had a digital read-out on my forehead it would be flashing, “Processing…still processing…”
I’m still wondering why the White House is so out of touch and actually believes their First Priority domestically is the Deficit, followed by the Afghanistan Escalation on the foreign policy front. This is a recipe for disaster in November.
Response is so different depending on the individual. If someone has been a lazyass forever, one response. If someone has worked hard and stayed active, another.
i read your
as a comment on other old cultures and not so much now.
many of the lines between the sexes have fallen. there are still lines to fall.
hey duanev — welcome to late late nite — don’t recognize your moniker so if that is an error, my apologies.
how ya doing tonight?
Wow! How hard was that? Or how was it a teaching experience as you said?
Once you experience that, it’s inescapable how you look at life.
My dad absolutely FREAKED out the night Jen passed. He could not relate to me at all, because I had witnessed passings firsthand before, because he had never had a passing in front of him at all, much less his favored daughter.
And it’s strange – to this day. I have an equanimity he doesn’t, and he’s really a bit jealous about that. I tell him he’s fortunate. He says I’m unfeeling, when that’s so not true. I just have more experience, and he’s unwilling to acknowledge that.
Nite, Mac.
shake rattle roll
Must be a military/state/political decision.
shake shake
Well, my father was bigger than life, and he lives on, I know. But for me, he died in bits and pieces, and by the end, he had suffered and was ready. I think it makes a huge difference when there is time to become prepared, as one can do with a lengthy illness.
When I was 21, my youngest brother died, unexpectedly at 16. THAT took some processing. After that, I had a lot of perspective.
You really got me now
that’s the same video as your 165 bg
crap. I meant you got me now.
oooooo that’s one i’ve not heard in a while… great tune
One thing of beauty, despite my atheism, that I think is so appropriate for passings:
Panis Angelicus
Can you get rid of that booboo? Shit. I didn’t mean for that to happen. Fuck. Now I can’t sleep at night.
(MODNOTE: the link is removed)
Yes, there are lines to fall. But my husband could provide comfort because his sister was holding everything together. While engaged in a complicated relationship with another sister. Nothing brings that conflict into the Raw like crisis. Same in my situation.
It always seems to come down to Tribal. Our culture rejects Tribal. How can Empire do otherwise?
Without Tribal we are NOTHING.
as forest gump would say, i’m pretty tired.
i’m gonna head out for the night folks. thank you for all the music, converations, and for letting me spend a wee bit of time with ya.
g’nite all and *le poof*
Beautiful. And on that note, I too shall poof.
Good luck to all for the trials and tribulations of our time.
Shit, I can’t watch that stuff anymore. My father and his friends/co-workers did all the work on that shit.
What a fucking waste of minds and lives!!!!!!
From the glory of Apollo to the depths of Hell.
You MODS are the best. Thank you.
I should say they worked on these projects as the Best and Brightest Minds. Sucked in during the “50′s.
It never ends, this War Machine. No matter what incredible device someone invents to further the good of mankind, the War Machine will twist it into Evil. Fact of Life.
Fine. How are you?
Eisenhower was right. But it’s such a glaring contrast. The defense budget is more than twice the rest of the world’s, combined. More than half of our discretionary funding. Yet, we’re told to expect Austerity from the deficit commission. Of course its stacked with Pete Peterson acolytes, and that Evil Simpson guy…
I feel as if there’s nothing I can do to protect the United States of America dissent into Corporate Tyranny. Nothing I can do to protect her from her evolution into chaos and the karma of the violence she was birthed in.
Wow. That’s depressing. There’s got to be something.
That’s what I said protesting in the streets for 9 years.
Time to think small and local, imho.
All great empires fail.
Oh, and support FDL every time they need help. Until it hurts.
Yes. The elites are famous for overreaching, aren’t they? History may not repeat but it sure does rhyme. And, on that note,I’ll now go finish watching “Shock Doctrine”. I’m sure that’ll cheer me up! Goodnight!
In my thinking History Repeats constantly. Almost like a Religious thing, it’s so constant.
No point in cheering yourself up with the Shock Doctrine. That’s daytime/caffeine reading. And SO Scary!!!!!
That book freed me from the underlying fear that I was a paranoid/delusional/creative thinker.
Turns out that I just base my opinions on Alternative Sources.
“I’m free. I’m free. And freedom tastes of reality.” Thank you, the Who.
Dear mod,
I’m sorry that I abuse your kindnesses from time to time,[ feel almost bad about that] but, did FDL have a construction bump or was something very weird going on ?
I ask that because for a while the FDL site was coming up a white screen.
I feared Obama’s capitulation on all things Constitutional was reaching the the most intelligent sites.
I fear Blackout.
There is no fear in love
Good morning, pups. It’s Ms. Collins and Mr. Herbert holding down the fort since Mr. Blow is off today. Ms. Collins recognizes that it’s now the silly season. In “The LeBron Angle to Everything” she says our American duty does not lie in celebrity name-dropping. But let’s talk about LeBron James and Lindsay Lohan. Mr. Herbert, in “Restoring a Hallowed Vision,” says a new union president’s vision draws on important lessons of the post-World War II era.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got waffles with maple syrup. I’m off to water the garden before it gets too hot to venture outside. It’s 82° already, and it’s not going to get any cooler. Have a great day.
