Brooks & Dunn – Play Something Country
Late Night: 24/7 Smart – The Antidote to Stupid |
| By: watertiger Monday June 28, 2010 8:00 pm |
Earlier this year, Diesel, the clothing line, rolled out the most ridiculous ad campaign I’ve seen in a while: “Be Stupid.” As if this country needed the reminder? Ever since proud “C” student George Bush was appointed President, the United States has been on an inexorable slide downward into imbecility, thanks in no small part [...]

What Role Will Senator Murkowski Play in Climate and Energy Negotiations? |
| By: Josh Nelson Monday June 28, 2010 6:45 pm |
Speaking at a sparsely-attended luncheon in Fairbanks, AK on Friday, Senator Murkowski (R-AL) touted her failed effort to block the EPA from regulating greenhouse gas emissions as a ‘badge of honor.’ She went on to explain why she considered the maneuver, which went down by a 53-47 margin on June 10th, a qualified success. “We made our point. Forty-seven members of the Senate said they do not want to allow the agency to set climate change policy,” she said.

I’m not saying this is what’s happening. But if I were a big spook, I’d love to have someone with the skill set of Prince, off in a haven protected from American law, setting up an entity that can do what Blackwater does but do so with neither the legal oversight (as if that did us a damn bit of good) nor the requirement to be paid in cash.
Obama Catered to Scott Brown on FinReg, Now Brown Opposes the Bill |
| By: David Dayen Monday June 28, 2010 5:15 pm |
Brian Beutler reports that Hill aides told him President Obama’s Treasury Department sided with Scott Brown in the waning moments of the Wall Street reform conference committee, favoring his loophole for the Volcker rule designed to help asset management companies in Massachusetts.
The giant punchline to all this? Brown could very well vote against the conference report because of its four-year, $19 billion dollar bank levy to cover implementation.
Glenn Greenwald & Dylan Ratigan on Targeting American Citizens for Assassination |
| By: Jane Hamsher Monday June 28, 2010 4:30 pm |
Obama’s top Terrorism adviser John Brennan recently suggested that there could be “dozens” of Americans who have been targeted for assassination, and Glenn Greenwald appeared on the Dylan Ratigan show today to discuss the implications.
Low Tide for Ethics in the Gulf: Judge Feldman’s Conflicts and DOJ Malpractice |
| By: bmaz Monday June 28, 2010 3:40 pm |
Oiled up BP Judge Martin Feldman was required by both statutory and ethical considerations to recuse himself; at a absolute base minimum to disclose his appearances of conflict on the record; but he did neither. Any competent standard of lawyering would mandate the government to raise the issue if they are going to fight Feldman’s ruling; but they have not. The public ought to be asking what the hell is going on here.
