Just moments ago, we met our goal of raising $50,000 for Firedoglake with 30+ hours to spare. This is amazing. More than 1100 people contributed an average of $42 to support Firedoglake’s independent progressive movement.
In fact, your outpouring of support has been so amazing that we’re setting a new goal and extending our deadline. It’s ambitious, but can you help us raise $60,000 by the end of the day on Friday?
If you haven’t yet contributed, can you step up now? If you’ve already contributed, thank you for your support – and if you can step up once more, you will put us that much closer to our goal.
Every dollar contributed to Firedoglake will go towards supporting the folks who help make this a great place: our moderators, writers, editors, and organizers depend on your support. We already hit our initial goal, and every additional dollar will make Firedoglake that much stronger.
Update: I want to step in again and say how thankful we are for the FDL community in reaching our goal. It’s really incredible: $50,000, ahead of schedule. To everyone who contributed, and anyone who supported us but couldn’t give: thank you. We can’t do this without you.

About Firedoglake
FDL readers YOU ROCK!
*Whew* You met your goal! I was worried that I’d have to pull out my wallet.
Yay – I’m SOOOOO glad you guys raised the goal!
I’ve hit it 2x so far for $75, but I’ll pop another $20, as I love stretch goals.
Keep rocking!
WOOHOO!
(well, there is a new goal available so you might have to pull it out yet) :})
Greed, much?
A bit disheartened to see you raise the target after the fact. Nice way to make those that contributed during the last few hours feel a little “less special” by sweeping their sacrifice under the carpet.
How about instead just applaud those that gave money willingly to the cause and not look greedy by extending the goal?
Or are you going to turn around and give this money to such winners as Kucinich or Grayson. They’ve done such a bang up job on the progressive side.
Oh,geez. I think your twin was here yesterday. Have you not finally learned that this money is to keep the wheels turning at FDL? No one is going to use for a cruise to The Bahamas. Just like you have bills to pay at your house, this place has bills, too. Please don’t start this again.
Man, I’m sure glad I waited to contribute until that goal had been raised!
It just wouldn’t have been worth contributing unless I was able to make the earlier contributers feel “less special” !!!

We’ll see by Friday, won’t we? :)
Rude, much?
A little disheartened to see you disparage goal meeting. Nice way to make those that operate the blog feel a little less special.
How about instead you just pony up, and not look petulant?
Or are you going to turn around and do nothing. You’ve done such a bang up job changing things your own self on the progressive side.
So glad that FDL is getting more of what it needs and obviously uses very carefully! But better to celebrate the reached goal as a sign of more people reading/caring, and then raise the bar next time around.
no celebration at all, just straight to more dunning?
damn.
mmmmmooooooooooooohhh
I am 200% in favor of FDL but I had the same sort-of-negative reaction to the immediate extension of the goal. So sry.
Me <–crankypants.
On edit: I contributed last week, BTW, so I am not carping from the sidelines.
Agreed, poosh. I guess that’s my feeling.

You, and others on this thread, are correct. We still think we can and should push to 60k, but more thanks were due.
So it wasn’t a case of how much was desperately needed, but how much can we get?
Part of the whole psychology behind having these sort of campaigns is to help the organization/charity reach their “goal”. To arbitrarily move the goal post after the fact is a bit unfair. They gave to help FDL, to help you reach that set goal. Now, you just look greedy.
It will be interesting to see if the approximate 1k you made since moving the goal post blossoms to 10k in the course of the next week or so.
You set a desired goal of $50k, the readers helped you reach it. To now say you need more after it is already in play is tacky at best.
I’m glad the readers were able to help you keep the lights on, but it is sad that you are now going for a new living room set too.
