It’s becoming increasingly clear that all Harry Reid has to do to get re-elected is to simply quote his Teabagger-backed opponent, Sharron Angle, verbatim.
ANGLE: He’s 87 years old and has Parkinson’s and we have to pay more and more for his healthcare. I know he pays over 800 dollars a month in prescription drugs that we can’t get through his VA nor through Medicare — they just wont cover those things. And I know lots of seniors –
BECKER: Should they cover those things?
ANGLE: No, not if you’re working towards a privatized system. And he can pay for them. That’s my whole point. Even with the system we’ve got, it’s broken, its not covering for every cost that he has. And if he were dependent upon that, he wouldn’t be getting the healthcare he needs and that’s why we need to fix the system.
Now this position is perfectly consistent with someone who wants to kill Social Security, but it’s not likely to win many votes outside of the teabagging right.
That Harry Reid is a lucky guy.
[Ed. Note: See Jon Walker for Reid's first negative ad attacking Angle.]

It’s a sad state we’re in where the R candidate really does make Harry Reid look good
If only Hapless Harry had such an easy time standing up to the right-wing weirdos who are already in the Senate…
I don’t live in NV, but this is the point where you have to either vote for some other candidate who shows up the general election, like a Green Party candidate… or just not vote.
Some here say they’ll vote Republican just to make a point, and I get that. And that’s fine by me, if you can stomach pulling the lever for someone like this.
I will only vote Republic if it’s someone I can tolerate. Otherwise, in situations like this, I will either not vote or vote for a third party.
Someone like Angle? No, don’t think so. But also a no to Harry Reid.
But if you don’t vote for Reid you will inevitably get “no don’t think so” Angle. Your position makes no sense…
Let’s just hope ole Harry is savvy enough to work at getting re-elected and doesn’t “pull a dem” and manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of almost certain victory.
By the way, this woman Angle is a real bat shit crazy isn’t she!!
The TeaBirchers are all nuts…someone should fund a study to see whether or not fluoride fights mental illnesses.
Because I’d eat fluoride powder to keep myself from going that ****ing crazy.
There are no viable third parties, so voting for one is just a feel-good vote. NV suffers greatly if it loses Reid’s seniority.
…and that’s her whole point, see?
:D
The Gods work in strange ways, lucky for Harry.
Why can’t we have a discussion about whether Social Security and Medicare were good ideas or bad ideas that ought to be phased out, rather than point and laugh because people living on the dole aren’t likely to give up their loot? Oh right, because Sharron Angle is correct: Social Security and Medicare are completely broke and were obviously unsustainable bad ideas. The fact is, the purpose of Social Security and Medicare isn’t to help people; if you want to help people, you don’t support unsustainable programs like these that will inevitably leave millions in the lurch. The real purpose is to enable bribery of the electorate, and mocking people like Sharron Angle is just a part of that.
1. They aren’t broke, they are owed money the federal government borrowed from them to make war and cut taxes for rich people. It’s time to pay these programs back the money that was borrowed from them.
2. It’s not “the dole” it’s social insurance to protect the elderly, the disabled, and the orphaned. Or don’t you want to live in a society that does that?
3. Social Security is not unsustainable; it’s solvent until 2046. With minor changes to the upper limit of taxable income, it’s sustainable for another 75 years.
4. Neither Social Security nor Medicare is a ‘bad idea.’ They are very good ideas, unless you want to live in some Ayn-Randian social dystopia inspired by a serial killer.
It seems that the Rs are constantly working to find the next candidate that makes voting for a D an imperative. Of course in the case of Angle, even if she were elected and the Rs took control she would still be so bonkers that she would at most be the fringe vote that carries the standard R agenda without begin a driving force. Ron Paul never carried a lot of power among the Reps and Angle is far more crazy than he is. I’m glad I won’t have to choose between the lesser of evils, one of which continues the status quo and worrying about helping someone like this get into office. Face it, even the Rs aren’t stupid enough to kill the VA and admit it. Only the end-of-the-worlders, of the Alisa Zinov’yevna Rosenbaum, persuasion are this far gone. Even if she gets elected she has no chance of forming a consensus. The Rs keep pushing the boundaries of fascism and the Ds keep trying to emulate their ideas while getting rid of those pesky ideals that used to be referred to under various guises such as being a good Christian.
Having worked in a VA pharmacy as a fill-in pharmacist and having 2 brothers who spent time in their medical residencies in a VA hospital, the best thing we could do for the veterans is give them vouchers to pay for private care and reserve VA hospitals for service-related injuries and illnesses only. VA care, in general is lousy medicine. Too many docs, pharmacists, and nurses who can’t hold a position anywhere else. I used to observe while filling mail-order scrips while I was getting my Ph.D. and a significant number of the pharmacists who were full-time there went there for their careers to die. Having reviewed many vets meds when hospitalized at the private hospital I work at the cardiac care they get is a disaster. A lot of the psych care seems to leave a lot to be desired, as well. Hell yes, privatize as much of it as possible.
Although you are repeating the Republican talking point that Social Security is broke, you need to know that the Social Security Trust Fund has run a surplus for decades, including now. Destroying a social safety net is the LAST thing we in this country need…especially in this economy which may be a problem for years unless we change economic and trade policies. Throwing a trillion dollars at wars to kill, maim, and destroy when the “enemy” is global and should be dealt with through intelligence and police measures…now that is wasteful spending.
Sounds like she wants death panels.

The Teabaggers aren’t the “old boys” (of any gender) already in the club.
Sharron Angle Rand Paul gifts that keep on giving. Both these Tea Baggers should feature strongly in the Democrat attack ads in November along with this Looney Tune.

Social Security is paid for through payroll taxes, that is a tax you pay when you have a job, the opposite of “living on the dole.”
Yes, Medicare is going to blow up the budget, but that is because of continuing rising health care costs. By the time it happens health care will be eating up 1/3 of the GNP, any insurance will be unfordable.
