Aloha, Suz…!
Suz!
aloha ct — how’s paradise tonight?
hey newton — how ya doing tonight? warming up down there?
grrr tuttle
got my box of CocoaPuffs™, and wearing footie-jammies
just plain hot!
How’s the ocean life?
*heh* Ya snooze, ya lose…! ;-)
Sticky here…!
not a cloud in the sky all day. got up to 72 today and if the breeze hadn’t been blowing cool ocean air this way, it wudda been downright warm. my landlord was mowing the lawns today with his shirt off for most of the afternoon, working on his tan :)
yuck.. muggy hot is yucky dood. guess paradise ain’t perfect after all
Some of us are humidity freaks. I don’t know how people survive in the dry heat.
Very humid for Cleveland, and I spent the entire day reading two birthday books about Paris. Graham Robb, Parisians, and Andrew Hussey, Paris, the secret history. Hot enough to spend the whole day under a ceiling fan. With tons of iced tea.
Great cartoonie!
Need some more trades to cool us off, it’s clouded over and it’s still 81 outside…!
avast suz
*shrudder* i don’t like either kind
hey ce — yikes… not enough ice tea in the world when its hot…
hey loohoo– glad ya liked it — how’s socal tonight?
ahoy sunny — how ya doing tonight?
Evening Suz and all. It was windy windy like crazy crazy here today.
hey bg — supposed to get some wind blowing in tomorrow night ahead of a couple days of showers mon and tue.
Gotta say, I love the Carly Fiorina bobble-head ad on the right side of the page.
Hope you had a happy B day Chris. I’ve a wonderful Paris book next to the bed – tons of architecture and city plan photos. Paris: a century of change 1878-1978, Norma Evenson, Yale Univ Press.
Be happy to pass it on if you’re interested.
hey thatguy — how ya doing tonight?
am still waiting for pix of ce wearing the birthday tiara
Sleepy. Hot weather does that to me. But the Carly bobble-head cracked me up.
Hey ThatGuy, that’s the real Carly.
The bobblehead is the one on CNN.
hi bg, Suz, everyone. Love the toon!
My dog is cowering in a hallway because of the thunder. Which is over now, but she’s comfortable.
Quarter for the juke…
No kidding. Is that a great concept, or what?
hey margot — glad ya liked it — how ya doing?
happy birthday Chris!
leeroy!
Doing great, hope you are too?
Overcast in SoCal. Great for the water bill.
I’m a total sucker for Paris maps — let me see if we have this book at work. Thanks for the offer! I did our Art & Fiction Book Club last month on Emile Zola’s the Masterpiece. We looked at a ton of maps!
Suze! Pups!
it’s been on a cycle of rain, drizzle, sprinkle, pour all day and evening here in Minneapolis. Everything is lushly green, but dayam. It doesn’t dry out long enough for me to stick more plants in the ground, like the dozen strawberry plants my daughter bought last week. But i ‘spose it’s all for the best, because i’m still under doctor’s orders not to dig, plant, paint, or otherwise exert myself. Wednesday is my next check up, maybe i’ll be released from purgatory.
had a great sunny day with not a cloud in the sky.
token is a’scared of the wind. he barks at it when it makes the house creak. ya would think he would figure out the house has not blown over after a year plus up here and its ok but…
Humid is really difficult for me CE, glad you have the stamina!
hey ndfg — woohoo to the end of purgatory!!! fingers and toes crossed for ya
Ha ha! No pics taken, but I was lovely for an old broad. Great birthday.
Margot! Happy summer in Ohio. Gosh the weather this week was both wonderful and dreary.
I know what you mean about the dogs being scared of the thunder. Mine freak too. One year (2004?) neighbors decided to have fireworks in the cul de sac. I thought my dog was going to lose it!!
Hey, Sweetie. Follow the doc’s orders, please!
Aloha, ndfg…! Best wishes on your prognosis…! *g*
How many people here are tired of seeing Carly FuckupHP’s head bopping all over the internet?
Old broad?? Excuse me?
Now isn’t that wonderful!
Hi Margot, and HBD to CE! After alla the talk, I think a picture with tiara is in order.
hey senator — how ya doing?
Let her spend her billions…! ;-)
hey gw — how ya doing?
Not up to complaining about heat. Not yet.
Remembering last winter…..
I don’t see it. Where?
*shiver* 13 was my low this winter and it stayed there for several days… brrrrr
happy birthday!
shiver
It was just on this post but when I went back up there it was gone. I will go find it somewhere.
Happy Happy Birthday CE!
pirates!
Evening, gw! I arrived late to PUAC this AM, everyone was gone. How’d the election go?
Did everyone see the ad for John Boner?
Weird how that happens sometimes.
LooHoo
Here is Carly the Bobber.
portland hit 80 today — first time this year
Happy Birthday to our wonderful CE!
oh that is forking sweet
you betcha! i don’t want to jeopardize any of the healing that’s gone on! the garden can wait …
‘nuther pirate
thanks for asking, the good peeps won both runoff elections – for austin school board and for the community college trustee position. good news!
Excellent ad!!
I sent Jerry Brown a measly amount today. I wasn’t happy that it went from contribution strait to “sign up your friends to donate” without a thank you in between, and let them know.
oooooo let us know if you get a reply loohoo
Thanks all for birthday wishes — you make me blush.
Good night and sweet dreams!
Evenin’ Lakers!
I ran across some music from a movie I am rather fond of…”Caravans” with Jennifer O’Neal and Anthony Quinn, a favorite of mine (can anyone forget Zorba the Greek?)
Anyway here’s the song “Caravans” sung by Barbara Dickson who sang it in the movie.
The words really touch me and considering where we are today in this world, moves me to a more hopeful and lovely place.
Enjoy!

Great news! Congratulations.
Hi All
The Bay had a strong North wind creating was to make a very interesting row this afternoon. Sunny and bright children were playing the warm shallow water. One mom chatted a little then I unloaded the skull from the cart and went South with the wind to that side and turned into the wind heading toward Morro Bay (we are in the Soauth end or Back Bay. 550 hard short strokes later I turned back and almost flew with power of the wind and waves I had been fighting. The boat was moving so fast almost sailing as the strokes were long and perfect. very nice. The yoga breath distributes the energy nicely.
Yeah, and footie pjs disappeared from the stores. Guess the merchants thought they were a fad, not a necessity.
g’nite ce
hey starbuck — how’s your side of the coast range tonight? that sure is a pretty song
I’ll go check now. Doubt anyone’s working…
hey bb — sounds like a wonderful day on your bay.
Aloha and Happy B-day, CE…!
Very warm! The Rose Festival parade happened today but I didn’t go. Nice by you also?
Local elections are often the only bright possible moment in our so-called democracy, gw. Glad yours went well.
i would love to find footed fleece jammies at my local freddie. ya need em when it gets that forking cold.
You would think when it is a real sacrifice for people to part with money given the economic times that everyone would say thanks.
not a cloud in the sky — saw coverage of the parade on the tv machine and liked what i saw. i stayed home and watched the rise and fall of the tide and the birds flittering.
Got a thank you email with a reminder about how much emeg has to spend.
good…. but there should be a thank you on the donation page too. otherwise, it leaves ya with a bad taste in your mouth.
Didn’t watch the teevee either. I can’t get Channel 8 for some stupid, forking reason.
I got a birthday soon, first one my mom will not remember, and I won’t remind her.
Sounds scary exciting!
Hey gw!
they aired the entire parade earlier tonight :( maybe its available on their website
(((bg))) (((bg’s mom)))
About 40 minutes…but my new neighbor had his seven year old twin girls and they were going for a bike ride. He is a single partime parent and likes to take them camping. An ex college football defensive back.
On both side families with young kids that play hard all day and socialize with the little girl on the other side of the fence in their duplex. Nice to hear those happy little voices. Little garden maintenance, yoga reading, a nap and now a headstand for a while. Kept the breath in mind as much as possible.
Chatted with the older guys at the car show down by the bay where I put in one has has a Christian prison ministry with only on return! Pretty good record.
I’m guessing that I’ll hear something tomorrow. I just was shocked when it went from confirmation of my contribution straight to gimme names of potential contributors without a thanks in between, that the campaign needed to know. We’ll see, and I’ll keep you guys posted.
i’m doing fine. the weather is mighty dense out there – it’s like soup. walked over to a neighbor’s for dinner – a new friend – her daughter was up from san antone and i got to meet her. we all had fun together. and the cats even let me pet them this time. purrs all around.
Sounds pretty nice Suzanne.
Give us advance warning and we’ll stand in for her. She’d like that.
Is it gay pride weekend everywhere or just in our town? There was a gay pride parade today.
kids make ya feel young again and ya can’t help but smile at those happy voices wafting on the breeze as ya enjoy your day.
When’s your birthday and how old will you be?
Weel, I guess tonight was time to sink into a gentle pool of wine and sentimentality. I need a fix like that once and a while. That music keeps me connected to another essence not much in evidence these days. The movie version is also delightful. The visuals tell it all:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzJQzD_2GeA&feature=related
june is the month for pride and each area figures out what weekend to hold their parade is my understanding. thers was talking about his upper new york state pride parade in a post last week iirc.
aww, thanks. She is getting so so thin. I try to get her to eat anything good and push the calories when all else fails. When she wants to quit eating, I won’t bug her, but til then, whatever she likes is good with me.
Congrats on 100!
we all do our own version of sentimental journey — tis good for our inner me to trip down musical memory lane
happy 100 sunny!
What day is today? Just kidding. And I will lie about my age, k?
today is the 12th still on the west coast, tis the 13th east of here….
and lie away :)
Now that really goes back! You ain’t that old! 78rpm record, no less!
spot on re local elections still possible. at least in austin.
memories of mom singing along in the kitchen while fixing dinner
Well, most of us don’t lie, bgrothus!! I’m, for example, 57. There’s a whole pack of us at Suz’ LLN!!!
sounds like a really beautiful day. and so is your description. :)
Loo. Glad you spoke up…. so stupid.
I loved Austin, gw. Really a great departure from what I expected Texas to be like.
Got you beat. I am 60!
hi girl!
I got you both beat…over 70!
i’m double nickle this year — 56 in october
I’m not a good liar anyway. I guess you and I must be about the same age, Loo Hoo. I always have to do the math, don’t really keep track of the number. Larue’s is the same, I think.
I am looking at the calendar, it will be Thursday, not one of my regular llns.
Hey, Sunny! I blame it on Jerry’s cheapness. The guy really is the essence of bargain basement, which will serve him well as long as he pays his respects to his contribution people!
surround sound motorcycles here this weekend in austin.
well, in case i don’t see ya thurday nite
hippo birdies two ewes
hippo birdies two ewes
hippo birdes deer beeeegeeee
hippo birdies two ewes
….. and mini s’mores…..
well, young lady, i will be 59 at the end of the summer. Which fascinates my 6-yr-old grandson no end. I think i need to get one of those caps that says “older than dirt.”
Ok, I’ll be 73 in Sept.
Okay, I’m 58 in Oct., so two years…big dealio. It’s all the same music!!!
Good evening my friends, long time no see.
I am watching my 96 year old Granny tonight and actually over extended myself for tomorrow to watch my OTHER 96 year old granny at the same time. Quite the prediciment, it got handled. 80 degrees here today, it is still hot at eleven thirty.
Thought I’d stop by and say howdy before I go all THUD and shit.
Smooches
Sounds not exactly gay, only a little bit partly gay maybe.
here’s your birthday tiara
hey busted *smooches back babe* g’thud dood, just in case it sneaks up on ya
Which means I lead the pack so far!
Christ, I am just a kid in here tonight at fifty. I do respect my elders though.
LOL!
WOW! Who has Two 96 y-o grannies? That could be very cool.
I am not up for old age if not in good physical and mental heath. No thanks.
Congratulations!!! So your music looked more like this?
Not quite so LOL at 72!
When I was getting ready to move here from Oregon, friends who knew Texas asked where I was moving to. I said, “Texas”. And they said, “You, in Texas? Where in Texas are you moving to?” I said, “Austin.” And they said, “Well, that’s all right then. Austin’s not in Texas.”
I am also an October baby but I’m 56 right now.
i got a 94 year old granny and two great aunt’s (her sisters also in their 90′s) on my mom’s side.
You get over here young man. Oh never mind! Hey Busted, good to see you.
Awesome! Thank you so much. I look forward to passing it along to the next birthday person.
Well, we can hunt and track you down on whatever threads on Thursday. Love to you.
About right.
Peter Yarrow has a son in Portland running an import business. Peter comes to the store and gives a concert now and then. The store is called “The Monkey and the Rat”.
Sorry, I don’t think 59 is old. Used to be, granted. But my dad is 81 now. I just don’t feel old–except when I stand up after sitting too long at the computer!!! Which I’ll do right now!
Patience my dear, it’s all about patience.
When they finally go to bed, drink heavily.
Smooches back at ya and yer grannies, dude!
Smooch honey, how ya doing?
I don’t think 72 is old either! I’ve already outlived my dad by 7 years, and am in far better shape than he was at 52.
Isn’t that nice. My music too. I’m 67.
In my book, whatever pleases is the right choice.
k to lie about your age. Your b day?… not so much *g* Is today your birthday?
So lucky. I hope they are in good health. It is so painful otherwise. A good friend of mine lost her mom this week, though she had alzheimer’s for a very long time. We all say it is a blessing, but it still hurts.
My mother has dementia, and it is so hard. She has been cut from the bridge game now. I don’t think she can physically make it out now, but it is still a blow that the bridge club has realized she just can’t really play any more.
When the doctors told her she could not drive any more a few months back, she was just stunned. “But I have never even had an accident or a ticket.”
jen the bride describes me as ‘a 17 year old trapped in an old woman’s body’. tis a pretty accurate description — my orthopedist says i’ve got the knee of a 85 year old, my eye doc said i had old eyes, and we are not gonna even get into what the ob-gyn said….
I have a self inflated bad image but I am actually one of the sweetest guy’s you’ld ever want to meet, just ask Suzanne.
*heh* I’m just a young, still-wet-behind-the-ears whelp at 43…! ;-)
Well, it gets light by about 5 AM here and I’ll be taking a trip somewhere tomorrow:
“I don’t know where I’m going
But I’m going”….
Nite all.
*vouching* and a true gentleman
g’nite starbuck
I recall that you recently saved Suzanne’s car, is that right? Suz is indebted for life, I think.
gw, I already told you that I think you look younger than I do. I finally quit coloring my hair last year, grey: the new blonde, they say.
Good to see you busted!
he did save me…. and acts like it is no big deal but it was huge
Eh, she is a sweetheart and it was just a hose, like I would leave a friend stranded, not.
I agree. My dad was 72 when he finally gave up his bush plane and his Harley.
like i know how to fix a hose? i know how to call AAA *laughing*
Congrats on your 67!!!
Cars are the last frontier for me. I don’t want to know them, but I do love my mechanics. I can pretty much get into fixing about anything–even a roof at this point. But cars. I just cannot get into them.
I am tying a “quilt sandwich” tonight. . .this is my most major quilt project ever, so far. For a wedding at the end of the month.
hand quilting or sewing machine?
You were a bit far away for me to come change a flat tire, glad I aired up the spare, even if I don’t remember doing it!
Love ya honey, it is that time, give me a call.
So sad for your mom, bgrothus. I think we need to form communes before we reach the age where the state tells us what we need to do. Enough of us in a central location, and we can hire the drivers, cooks, etc. On our own terms.
ok dood… will call ya this week — car goes to the tire shop tomorrow for tire and alignment and to the mechanic monday — what’s that brake thing i was supposed to remember?
Suz has bragged on an on about you, busted.
Suz just fell out of my headstand right into a shoulder stad after 4.5 minutes arms got tired finished with 5.5 upside down. I am so flexible not even a little pain. Might be tight in the AM but am planning three classes 8-12. 2.3 hours of Asanas sandwiched with 1 hour meditation in between. Will float through the rest of the day. Life gets more enjoyable with each breath. Meditation make the mind clearer and frees you from pain and sorrow (afflictions) If you use equanimity as you perspective. All very interesting way of changing how you relate to the ups and downs.
Bubble gummer…
nite Starbuck.
Good night, you old codger.
I’m fine, how’s you and the garden?
What?
I am a nice guy honey.
BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA
Like you advised Thers to enjoy the babies crawling over him…enjoy your youth and stay fit!
my arms would be screaming dood…. i remember how strong you are from when you helpled pack the pod
poor ct, he’s the baby around here tonight…
It’s a mudhole so far.I stuck some seeds in the ground and we shall see, been fighting with an ignorant asshole neighbor over the non existent property lines, he is still alive, so far.
Time for me to fall down, Good to see y’all.
A very smart one with college kids an a humanitarian blog. Right CT! G)
I have a lot of friends who talk about this often. I have no children, so I just don’t think the family care option will be available for me. Maybe we will all be dead from b-poison planet before we have to worry about it.
I will absolutely have a plan to get out of this life if I see that I will have to go out like my mother. Or my father for that matter.
But in the mean time, I think collective/communal living is the only way to do it. I’ll let you be in my commune, if you let me be in yours.
Wow! Those newlyweds are very lucky! Do you have pics to share?
Oh, I made a quick trip to Santa Fe to see my brother and sister-in-law again. My sister-in-law had had foot surgery and my brother was exhausted from having to do everything so I went to give him some relief for a few days. He decided to take me on a couple of little trips. One was to the Sanctuario at Chimayo. A very special place. And then the next day we went to see the cliff dwellings in Bandolier. That was fascinating. We stopped at a cafe he likes in Los Alamos for lunch. The cafe’s energy was great, but Los Alamos was really creepy other than the cafe.
Petrocelli is a meditation expert. I’m sure you and he would have a lot to discuss. Two good guys.
g’nite thud babe
Now that’s an idea I love – The FDL Activist Retirement Ranch.
I only wish my hairline hadn’t left so soon…! ;-)
organic gardens and super fast wifi at the FDL Activist Retirement Ranch and Commune
your brains needed the extra room (at least that is what ex #1 used to tell me)
Mahalo, bg…! ;-)
gw, the shrine at Chimayo was really powerful to me when I was little. I remember seeing it for the first time…all the little tiny crutches on the wall, left by children who had been healed. Those were polio days. I still have a little vial of the dirt from the shrine.
Aloha, Busted…!
More grains and vegetables. Less fruit and meat. See if that plan will keep you what hairline ya still got.
Dayem, and you did not visit the Black Hole while in LA? You missed the high point. lol. I wish I would have known, but I was probably not in town that day anyway.
I only had time to make a very simple quilt, a modified Amish type of plan. And no, it will not be hand quilted. A doily perhaps, but not this. I have a friend, who has been encouraging me to do “free quilting.” It looks great, but all the online sites say it requires much practice, which I have no time to do. So I think I will just try to do straight stitching. Even that will be a challenge.
It is my best friend from growing up, her daughter is the bride. They are like family to me.
i saw a burt wolf travel show on pbs about it a few years ago — he talked about how powerful of a spiritual pull the place has… and the dirt
It was very powerful for me too. And I took home some of the dirt too!
Yup. Every day, I’ve got more face to wash.
Sure! The real problem is finding the place-and the funding- without someone to lead the troops.
I have a girlfriend with four sisters. They all own their homes free and clear. She can’t understand why they all need these big homes, and why they don’t just buy a property together. We’ll see. Crazy how much money they’re all spending instead of pooling expenses.
What’s the Black Hole?
hey wigwam — how ya doing?
happy 200 loohoo!
200?
I would like to see four sisters who want to live together. Someone around here calls their relative “war on war off.” I like that name. It fits my relationship with my sister. I adore my sils though.
I had an earache when I went to the Sanctuario left over from my ear not clearing for a long time on the flight and I put some of that dirt all around the outside of my ear and that was the end of the earache.
That sounds like a great trip…spiritual places and the life styles were so healthy and peaceful. Going bananas Navajo style is spitting on the ground that is outta control fort them. Old Spain in Santa Fe is very interesting. Lived in Abuquerque… special places.
like the zed, but 200 comments later.
My dentist fixed that by getting his transplanted from the back of his head. Came out good.
hey spocko — how ya doing tonight?
Less fruit…? Oh noes…! When I’ve got mangoes, lychee, papayas, rambutan, jack fruits, bananas, etc, available…?
wow
Great. How ’bout you?
We’ve been having the finest weather possible: June Gloom.
Is that your dad’s warehouse?
*heh* Haven’t heard that one before(surprisingly)…! ;-)
Headstand promote hair
Looks like the noes win then. :)
I used to have a bumper sticker saying “Black Holes are Out of Sight,” but I never drove through Watts with it.
today was the first day portland hit 80 — and the first day in june that it did not rain in portland. was nice out here on the bay.
teh google has a lot, here are some photos
I mean really. Do we all need separate kitchens and living rooms? I’m happy with a good sized bedroom, closet and bathroom. I never sit in my living room or dining room, and I’m in the family room for Tweets, Keith, and Rachel. I’d much prefer to watch with friends, and still have the privacy of my own room. I wouldn’t want to be into communal eating, unless it just spontaneously happened, but I don’t need my own appliances, etc. There’s got to be a more earth friendly way to live! Not to mention, cheaper!
that was a powerful place long before the Conquistadors came, or so I’ve read.
Hey CT. I apologize for the drive by last night. I was going to get back here, but got carried away arguing with an old friend who thinks that the Gazans have it coming for various reasons that make no sense.
burt said something similar.. that it is special going back way way back — betcha dr dick knows more about it
Hey! I did it!
I had this idea when my dad, aunt celia and uncle irving were all still alive with one in new york city and the two others in the suburbs in different directions from the city that they could buy one piece of land with three small bungalows for them and a bigger place for me so they could all come together for meals and see each other a lot. i would cook and help them. by that time they hardly ever saw each other any more – it was too hard for them to travel. they were the 3 youngest of 8 siblings. they were all too set where they were, but i loved fantasizing about it – especially when the fantasies included the south pacific as a setting.
I bet ya still didn’t get through to him either, eh…? 8-(
’bout time for me to head out folks… be sure to clean up a wee bit when ya head out and leave a light on along with a pot of coffee ready to brew for those early risers wanting to read ellie’s sun morning talking heads….
thanks for letting me spend a wee bit of time with ya tonight.
g’nite and le poof
Cute.
The one I always wanted was “If you don’t like the way I drive, get off the sidewalk.” I never had the nerve to get it though.
Good. I’ve Connected with the former bassist for the Black Crows in Louisiana. He has done videos on the need for respirators and has been out on the water collecting samples. He has talked to workers. I’ve asked him to pursue some questions on air quality monitoring locally and he has agreed.
That could be true, they range from Long Beach to San Diego. Could be warfare if they lived together!
So our commune needs a central spot for cooking and tv, and rooms well separated for sleeping!!
That’s the thing, it gets to the point where people are too old and set in their ways. Think it is hard to change now? Just wait.
It sounds like about now is the time to be planning this sort of arrangement. There have been lots of intentional communities all along. I think we have to really plan how to do it now.
Aloha, Suz…! Pleasant dreams…!
I mean it for real, too.
When Russian immigrants started coming to Israel and were given subsidized housing with each family getting an apartment, the women were really upset. Apparently in Russia, the kitchens in the apartment buildings were communal so even though each woman was preparing food for her own family they were all in the kitchen together while they cooked.
Nite Suz, you are the hostess with the mostest, always. Sweet dreams.
Awesome job, spocko…!
HA!!! Night Suz.
yes, they have it coming to them. just like the jews had the holocaust coming to them.
i’ve connected with the people organizing the jewish boat that’ll be going to gaza in july. i heard back this morning where to contribute. i definitely want to give them money. they said if they get enough, they’d maybe send a second or even a third jewish ship.
Good for you. Thanks Spocko.
Count me in.
The oceans are so full of trouble now. I hope you keep us posted on the ships you talk about. We need to promote peace however we can.
Kewl, gw, maybe the 50 ship flotilla is a possibility after all…! ;-)
evening, Suz
Yes, but where? I live in San Diego because I figure I can survive with no air co or heat.
Great Job, spocko! I really believe that one person can accomplish a lot by just keeping after it. That is what I have learned. Of course other people are always just as important to keep the ball rolling, it does take a team, but one person pushing is often what it takes to get things started.
Thank you!
Aloha, PPD, you just missed her…!
hiya, CT – sorry I missed her – how’s everything in the islands tonight?
Agreed!
My Aunt Celia was living at the end with threadbare carpets that had been duct taped for safety because she wasn’t willing to have things be different than what she was used to. Various relatives brought rug samples to her and she had the money, but she just didn’t want the change.
Cousin David just totally overruled her one day and added a second phone in her studio apartment. The first was in the hallway where she had to stand to talk on the phone and he put the second one on the table next to her favorite chair. She never agreed to it, but he just did it anyway. Later, she did appreciate the convenience.
My goal is to help him get the message out since America love celebrities.
What I want him to show is the monitoring station on land and they ask questions of the EPA so that people realize that the placements aren’t on the boats, the chemicals are only tested singlely and nit combinded and even that the level of Safe is too lax.
BP will only listen to OSHA and OSHA only listen to EPA.
I also talked to the VP of the largest oil cleaners on the west coast to ask him what he would recommend for workers
and what they wear. Interesting conversation.
All kinds of people will try to go to the easiest places. I once spent a summer in the NWT of Canada b/c my father was convinced that when the times got rough, one should go where the least number of people would go. But survival in those places is also a bleak and unforgiving disaster for those who do not have the skills.
I know we are not discussing that element here, but I think we are really facing a very different life from what we have imagined. Things are not looking like they will be getting any easier.
Back yard gardening is really not farming. . .I think we have to be looking at how to develop a culture of helping, going back to our roots. Where we are going now does not look very hopeful to me.
It’s hopeless, as you well know. Never in my life have I seen such an example of the “emperor’s-new-clothes” mentality. It has permeated our society ever since Leon Uris published Exodus — per the Wikipedia:
i think i heard about them from a comment edward teller made on one of the gaza diaries. i started crying when i heard there was going to be a jewish ship and i knew i just had to support it. they’re going to be bringing musical instruments for the children and teach them to play. at least, that’s the plan.
Muggy…! Doing some serious background reading on AfPak affairs… Since the Gaza atrocity I’ve been neglecting it…!
san diego’s wonderful. what’s the price of land like? in my perfect fantasy, we’re talking on the beach. margot, where do you live?
My mistake was “living every day as if it was your last”
imagine my surprise when I woke up hung over and broke!
I really shouldn’t have taken that advice. And
they told me “live in the now man” sadly my landlord
lives in the future.
The carpet, hilarious. mainly b/c about 10 years ago, I was bugging my dad to let us get new carpet for their bedroom. The carpet in there was from the house we moved from in 1960 or ’61. He would not hear of it.
Last fall I was so annoyed by this weird dust that was around the house. I could not figure out where it was coming from. Finally I realized it was that damn carpet.
I bought some new carpet, hired people to install it and took everything out of the bedroom (only room in the house with carpet), cleaned and painted, then put in the new carpet. Under the old carpet I found a note in my father’s distinct writing that said, “Rug Reversed Jan 29 2000.” TEN YEARS more. That thing was so threadbare it was shocking, all the dust was the darn thing disintegrating. I saved the note.
*heh* Maybe that’s what’s wrong with me, I never read ‘Exodus’…! ;-)
I agree. My own picture is as much off the grid as possible. Solar. Rainwater harvesting. Food growing. Bicycling. Of course, the background music for that is getting as healthy and in good a shape physically as possible.
Co housing…sharing the equity. Central kitchen and recreation with private bedroom bath or some scheme with plenty of garden space maybe a green house to start seeds early for several growing seasons. Less work for everyone more free time. Good sustainable and affordable options.
spocko, you are the best! I so admire your strength and fortitude.
hmmm. i didn’t realize that book was commissioned. or that it had that much of an effect. hmmm.
now you’ve got me grinning and laughing. your dad and my aunt clearly belonged to the same tribe.
gw, I have some friends living off the grid near Silver City. I have not been there, and I don’t know if they are open to creating a kind of community there. They are not growing crops, but they are restoring the land.
They had a wild time recently with a fire, very scary. But they are doing the off the grid life.
At the ripe old age of roughly 20, I tried to read it and threw it across the room. Basically, it’s a Zionist version of an old-school western, i.e., the kind of western where the Indians are stupid, evil savages who like nothing more than shooting arrows into blue-eyed, blonde-haired children. “If only they were willing to live together in peace like we were, none of the awful massacres would have happened. We did have to protect our families. And when that gold was discovered on their reservation, we knew they’d be more comfortable in New Mexico.”
The bullshit of the ethnic cleansers is always the same.
are you thinking you might want to visit and check it out? i just went to google maps. it looks like it’s just south of the gila national forest. 4 1/2 hours drive southwest of albuqerque.
Thanks. The event can feel so massive and we can’t do anything. The media probably aren’t
looking to expose the EPAs limitations for
the purpose of better lung health. I am. And Johnny Colt has been on the ground videotaping what he sees, hears and smells. I’m going to see if I can get some experts to make sure he gets in some tough questions.
On grand isle there are three mointoring stations. They are not in the water with the workers. The VP of the WC oil cleaning crew said that he has Monitors on his boat and the protect their workers at the higher level to be safe. Should we doom workers in LA a lifetime of lung problems?
I’ve been longing to spend a much longer visit in new mexico with free time to wander about. i might have to hurry if i want to set up base camp at my brother’s. they’re thinking of moving. this week they’ll be taking a trip to tucson to check that out.
Living in the present does not preclude planning for the future. Making good decisions is a present event. I think here and now does not mean bad or no planning.
I can go whenever it would be convenient for them, right now I have to stay on the scene with my mother. She cannot get her sleep on tonight, poor dear. I imagine I can try to get down there later this summer or in the fall, depending. . .
Same old, same old…
Here’s a great site I found today…
Loved this entry…
“A Friendly Note to Many of Israel’s Defenders “
i am so glad you’re pursuing this, spocko. that was my first concern about this disaster – that the people working on clean up would get sick. now, with it as extensive as it is, i’m guessing everyone in the gulf is at risk from what they’re breathing. i had no idea what to do, but i really like your idea and the energy you’re putting into it.
Why should I listen to you when I know The Secret?
I need to manifest and monitized my strength and forititude. I will start speaking on the topic, “How to make money battling Corporations.”
This was particularly rich…
Very interesting site.
Silber doesn’t pull his punches…! ;-)
Waaay past my bedtime, pups. Off I go. See you on the morrow.
I gotta bag this scene with alla you sleepless folk. Thanks for keeping me company, I must try to sleep and hope little momma can have a dream herself.
Take care til next time. Hang in spocko, you are doing a great job.
Aloha, gw…!
