Harry Reid is the luckiest man alive. Just hours after the Teabagger-backed Angle locked up the Republican nomination, she took down all the content on her website. Why? Because it’s an abundance of crazy a bit too honest about what right-wingers really think.
Luckily, the good folks at Mother Jones snagged the Google cache for us.
On abolishing Social Security:
Social Security and its attendant Medicare are broken and bankrupt systems because we, as voting citizens, have allowed congress to transform these systems from insurance programs to and [sic] entitlement programs. [...] Free market alternatives, which offer retirement choices to employees and employers, must be developed and offered to those still in their wage earning years, as the Social Security system is transitioned out.
On drill, baby drill:
As a long-term policy, America must expand its own domestic energy supplies. Sharron Angle would legislate to repeal regulations that prohibit off shore drilling, drilling in ANWR and development of American owned petroleum resources.
On climate change:
Cap and Trade, which is based on an unscientific hysteria over the man-caused global warming hoax, steps over the constitutional boundaries of the federal government and is merely another way to tax the people.
On her plans to reduce the deficit by … cutting taxes!
As your U.S. Senator, Sharron Angle will introduce legislation in line with her economic policy of:
- Pay back the deficit
- Cut back on spending, taxation and regulation
On the UN:
The U.N. continually threatens U.S. sovereignty, with endless rhetoric and treaties and it has now become the “umpire” on fraudulent science, such as global warming.
On immigration:
Sharron Angle has been endorsed by Minuteman PAC.
[sfx: rimshot]
And so it goes. Republicans know this won’t sell at the box office — that’s why they prefer that these rather mainstream GOP views be hidden under more abstract dog whistles. Angle just doesn’t know how to “message” this stuff yet.
The useful thing about the Tea Party movement is that it has stripped all of those layers of Frank Luntz/Karl Rove/Lee Atwater paint off and shown us what Republicans really are.

Dear Sharron,
all my previous comments about banning fluoride were just snark
The sad part is that she likely won the primary in part because of these positions, and in part because the other R candidates self-destructed (chickens for check-ups, anyone?). These aren’t all that different than the spew that is thrown out (up?) by most R candidates at one point or another, they are just all gathered into a single place for the crazy to be visible.
There can be no denying that the teabaggers are just Republicans who don’t want to be called that anymore. I mean they whine about paying taxes while their taxes are being cut but when a Republican says something like this, we hear crickets.
Wow, someone to make Reid look good….a bloody miracle.
The teabaggers and Republicans are insane scum, of course.
Grrr….but negating the possibility of getting a real leader in the leadership spot.
The teabaggers are the GOP base. Period. Some of their leaders attempted to break away, but were successfully coopted and/or bought off by the GOP.
The biggest national group, Tea Party Nation (they’re the one most folks have heard of, with the bus tours and Sarah Palin and all) have in their bylaws that no Tea Party Nation candidate can be eligible for funding unless he or she vows to uphold the Republican Party platform.
Yep. Palin herself admitted that teabaggers are Republicans and if her muddy brain can see that, it should be evident to all.
Between Palin, Bachmann and Angle, I think we’ve hit the Trifecta.
“Sharron Angle will work toward making a basket of commodities (metals, oil etc.) as a basis for maintaining the value of the U.S. currency.” This is one of the most unusual ideas ever promoted by a politician. Make the currency and the economy dependent upon commodity manipulation. Why she didn’t throw in stocks (American of course) and home values is left as an exercise.
Oh and she is retro enough to join the rest of the older kooks in wanting to get rid of U.N. funding.
But in order to bring something new to the party she also suggested that it is unacceptable for both parents to actually hold jobs simultaneously. Now there is an interesting attitude for a libertarian. Of course it would be required once she gets rid of the department of education (shades of Ron Paul) and forces children to be home schooled.
Personally I think she and Randal Paul should get together and start their own party.
From McClatchy’s Tuesday article AIG’s problems far greater than Bush officials told public:
The reference is to one or more of AIG’s insurance companies that sell annuities. This is the equivalent of private retirement insurance, or private social security. The main thrust of the entire article is that the taxpayers are on the hook for bailing out AIG, which paid off its CDSs to Goldman Sachs and the other banks, as a backdoor bailout from the taxpayers. But the customers of AIG’s various subsidiary insurance companies will be left in the lurch, charged twice: once for the premiums on their annuities (or other insurance), which will never pay out, leaving them in poverty in old age; and second, through their taxes that Hank Paulson sent on to AIG.
Free market social security is not security. It’s a swindle, just like forced health ‘insurance’.
And yet..
Thanks to a 38.8% approval-52.3% disapproval rating (Pollster.com) from his own Nevada constituents, Harry Reid could actually lose to Sharron Angle.
To SHARRON ANGLE, people!!!
Harry Reid’s negatives would be bad for any incumbent politician anytime.
Those kind of negative numbers in the 2010 election environment are disastrous.
Margaret:
The only two I’ve seen in the hunt to replace Harry Reid are Chuck Schumer or Richard Durbin, so I don’t see much of a chance for real improvement (not that I can readily come up with better choices with appropriate seniority and support).
Hey, I’m no economic Master of the Universe, but I really don’t think it’s possible to “pay back the deficit,” since the deficit is the annual gap between revenue and expenditure. Either there is one, or there is not. Once the budget is passed, that’s basically it for the deficit. (although it can grow and shrink as the budget year goes on). I guess she means debt–but if he doesn’t know the difference, color me wary of giving her 1/535th of the key to the budget.
One point Sharron made loud and clear:
Tea Party Patriots are citizens of the United States — not the United Nations.
Reid is toast.
looks like that crazy changey thing is going over swell in nevada.
its not their fault their so crazy and stupid. when the far right and powers
that be got their asses kicked in the sixties by a well educated and
intelligent citizenry they vowed that that would stop.they then dumb bed
down this country so they could do what ever they wanted brought in the
“great communicator” and the rest is history! if there’s a stupider place to live then usa circa 2010 i haven’t seen it! even people in third world
countries laugh when they come here and see how bad our educational system
is and how ill informed we are to the world around us!
So, too, Meg Moneybucks Whitman in California. She spewed right wing vile over the airways for the last six months, saturating both radio and t.v. with ads bought with $70 MM of her own money, a treasure chest filled by illegal bribes paid through swanky IPO deals from her grateful EBay client, Goldman-Sachs.
To reach 5% of the voting population that is Repub in the SF Bay Area, the rest of us were subjected to her obnoxious commercials. How will she ever walk that drivel back?
One way is Megs Moneybucks is afraid to do unscripted interviews. Just yesterday she refused an invitation to chat with Jim Lehrer on the PBS NewsHour. Jerry Brown was not afraid.
And apparently, they’re morons. Don’t forget that part.
Social Security is bankrupt?Last time I checked it had a 2.5 trillion dollar surplus and was solvent until 2040
Wait…
1) Privatize Social Security.
2) Repeal restrictions on oil drilling in protected areas.
3) Global warming is a hoax.
4) Cutting taxes will reduce the deficit.
5) The U.N. threatens U.S. sovereignty.
6) The Minutemen are just a mainstream group of concerned citizens.
Aren’t these . . . the beliefs of the Republican Party in general, as more or less outlined in their platform?
We should ask why this women will spend 150 million dollars to get a 160,000 dollar job.
This Whitman character is a corporate plant for shady things to come.
Angle is a Southern Baptist which won’t make her a favorite of the Mormons.
Yes, but they usually don’t say so quite as explicitly. That’s why I wrote:
Did she also wipe her ties to Scientology and promotion of L Ron Hubbard’s “science”?
Because that’s creepy as hell, alongside from the teabagger rhetoric.
Gonna wash that crazy outah my hair, Gonna wash that crazy outah my website…
See, all gone… now I’m not crazy anymore…
It is really amazing how Republicans and Teabaggers are so clueless about files and images and videotapes on the Internet and how they will last forever…
Back at Mt. Lebanon Junior High School and Senior High School in western Pennsylvania in the late 1950s teachers and administrators would threaten us with “that will go into your Permanent Record Folder…” I suppose that it is too late to call them up and ask them if they still had my “Permanent Record Folder”…
“Angle is a Southern Baptist which won’t make her a favorite of the Mormons.”
Seeing as I don’t know much about the area, does Reid get a lot of LDS support?
Indeed. What is UP with E-Meg? I don’t watch much tv, so I fortunately missed most of her nasty ads, but she certainly had tons of them out there.
Why someone as wealthy as E-Meg – from all of her shady deals and white collar crime – wants to be Gov of CA is one of life’s little mysteries. I figure all of her wealthy cronies have encouraged her to BUY this job and do better than Ahhhhhnold at slashing and burning everything and anything that benefits ANY serfs. And then: ta-da!!! Reduce taxes even further the very top, whilst increasing it at the bottom.
It’s gotta be something like that, plus other stuff that I don’t want to imagine.
As far as someone like Angle is concerned: she is just another member of the Republican party these days. I think they were always this racist and nutty. I go back to the days of the original John Birch society, which never really died out, and none of this junk is much different.
What seems to have changed is that Republicans *used to* mostly have that sort of British upper class kind of behavior and demeanor where one had certain beliefs and attitudes, but one didn’t voice certain “ugly” things out loud.
These days the Republicans are in lock-step with certain elements of our society who never understood the so-called “social niceties” to begin with, and with the unleashing of RushGlenn et al, the muzzle is off and all this racist tribal junk is spewed forth with abandon, and what’s more our media makes a real effort to shine a light on it for ratings and making money and stuff.
Really, none of this is new other than that it’s just being spoken openly, rather than behind closed doors. Don’t like it, but at least it’s mostly all out in the open for all the world to see. They can scrub Angle’s website all they want, but with the Internet, it’s all still out there.
Caveat emptor.
As a former Nevadan, I find it Hi-larious that an actual candidate for Senate has said she wants to outlaw liquor and Social Security, since both of those items are pretty high on the list or priorities for about 90% of Nevadans, between the casinos and the retirees.
I’m sure all the rural Nevadans who are typically of a libertarian type “leave me alone” bent will think She Can Go All The Way. But that’s not where the money or population is in NV.
I am impressed, though with the speed of the GOP machine to tell her to cut the weirdo crap. I figured it would take a little longer than 24 hours. Now we’ll see how “principled” she really is.
Why are you impressed with the speed of the GoOPer machinery. They probably got her in a back room away from her “advisors” and told her no play, no pay. It remains to see how long before her Tea Party constituency starts calling her out for “selling out” or gets onboard with the republican machine which is where they are most comfortable anyhow.
Just hiding the dog whistle doesn’t mean she’s any less a bitch. */snark off (sorry punaise)
