It is always great to see family.. My middle & youngest son made it to tonight get together…we all had a great time… of course Tucker was in seventh heaven with all the company.. sat on everyone’s lap one time or another…
Black Flies?? Things back there are early this year.. And boy I sure don’t miss the black flies when I lived in Maine… Little bastards have no respect none.. They think nothing of flying down yer throat and the bloody welts behind when they done biting ya.. Shit I don’t miss them at all.
remarkable weather between 65 and 90 F, a little rain on Sunday, but otherwise just beautiful — the lakes, the trees, the hiking & biking trails. Mosquitos weren’t invited to the reunion.
Thanks, but after picking up my car at my brother’s, I had to get home and work tomorrow morning. It was a great to be off for five whole days, though.
No no little black flies ya never know they are biting you because they have an anesthetic in their saliva.. so ya don’t know they bit ya till ya rub and find blood on your hand..
I’m not going to read Brooks. Conseratives are hypocritical all the time. Their ideas have failed the great majority of the people. I’m tired of spending energy refuting them. It’s redundent.
I want to embarass them and defund them.
pant pant
I just got back from re-booting, and Suz is right, it works wonders.
About that article…he’s such a pissant. I couldn’t stand to read the whole thing.
Speaking of embarrassing powerful people I created a series of questions and gave our man in LA (Michael) to ask to get BP to provide respirators to everyone working on clean up.
As with my Murdock question, I know how they will answer but I want the rest of the media to notice their answer.
I don’t want to ask it because I’m not on the ground. But I will if it doesn’t get asked.
I even have a communications trick we could use to force the issue.
I love to hash stuff out here so I’ll run it by folks tomorrow.
yay! glad it worked for ya margot. tis the first thing i do when i find stuff slowing down online…. if clearing cache doesn’t do it, the reboot usually does.
why does he even have a column anymore? his op-eds are always the same ole same ole
New Orleans, Louisiana (CNN) — A fisherman who was hospitalized after becoming ill while cleaning up oil in the Gulf of Mexico has filed a temporary restraining order in federal court against oil company BP.
John Wunstell Jr., is asking BP to give the workers masks and not harass workers who publicly voice their health concerns.
They have a real Catch-22 kind of thing going there. There’s crude oil to clean up, they don’t give you masks, if you bring one they send you home because “if it were dangerous enough to need one, we wouldn’t have you all out here working.”
Here is the idea. Instead of demaning BP provide all the clean up crew with respriator gear and hazmat clothing, just ask for WHEN they will be available and which OSHA rule will people be breaking if they don’t wear them.
Turn the question into. WHEN not an IF.
This puts them on the clock and if the say it’s not required and They aren’t providing them you move to medical questions, which is another area they are dodging.
Then you contact the manufacture of high quality gear and ask if they have gotten the order from BP yet and if they can fill it in time. You ASSUme that they are doing the right thing and are Shocked that they aren’t and other media ask why.
The key is you don’t do this at the local level. You set this up for the High level types who then have to dance. You get some one with a HR title or Sience background to answer the question. Who you ask is part of the game as well as where you ask.
This is activist journalism on the side of safety and health. So the question could come from a safety publication or a medical journal.
Trade press people who don’t have BP as sponsors.
I believe in helping journalists get good stories. Those are the people to drive this angle.
Lots of reasons.
1) denial
2) macho bs
3) fear of future legal if they acknowledge the risk now
4) remember air quality at ground zero and how Condi Rice’s office told whitmans office to lie about the air? Now put that scenerio in this situation.
5) optics. Really. People in gas masks are going to scare people. This will bring out macho asshats like Hannity who say that people are over reacting. Limbaugh will mock them for wearing masks.
I worked with toxic chemicals in Star Fleet and the RW asshats hate “whimpy regulations” Even if they save lives.
6) actual lack of resources. Get enough masks to the people is a distribution and management challenge but can Be solved with money.
I guess I understand all of that except #6. But the long term cost so far outweigh the short term costs, that it’s unbelievable anyone would accept them.
I wonder what the BP shareholders would think about this.
ZED!!!@☺☺

Well thanks, Suz – just returned from five days in Minnesota for a family reunion.
how was the weather? were the mosquitoes out in force or is it too early for that yet?
I got to play with that singer (Malford Milligan) a couple years ago on the Delbert Cruise. The man is as cool as he sounds, and is a force of nature.
You can’t spend what you ain’t got…you can’t lose what you ain’t never had
That’s awesome — what an opportunity that was!

In Minnesota, they’re the state bird
am feeling that way about a lotta things lately..
Yeah I know — lots of disappointment going on :-(
Are you talking about the horseflies? The bites that are PAINFUL, not itchy, for several days?
True dat and come in swarms so large they even take the car your in with them..
/s
But when I feel bad, I always turn to music
How about a little Elmore James?
Well now, quite the conundrum with our long time NATO ally escorting the Freedom Flotilla all the way to Gaza…!

When I was a kid, we always had reunions (apparently parents’ high school reunions) at Itasca State Park.
I sure remember crossing the river on those rocks every year.
Perfect…
*heh* I swear there’s a ‘too’ mixed in there…! I guess it was lost in translation…! ;-)
and there is always this
Itasca — headwaters of the mighty mississippi
Yes! We gotta hold on to those :-)
I was looking for the Sarah Vaughan version of this, but couldn’t find it — Billie Holliday will have to do:
Nice Work If You Can Get It

Good, thanks, hope you are too. Waves to sleepy LL, PPDCUS, nahant and anyone else I missed…my browser is taking forever to load
have ya cleared your cache or tried a reboot? using one or the other usually resolves loading slow problems for me
This article pissed me off like no other.
Sorry to be so nasty, Margot, but I’m sure you’ll understand. Hello!
david brooks can kiss my ass — he sure as hell wasn’t saying this shit when boosh/cheney were in charge
Everything he said was predicted on Saturday by left blogistan.
as it was during the bush years — or am i confusing him with some other blowhard

didja see this spocko?

Let us know if there is a way to amplify your work.
’bout time for me to head out folks. thanks for all the music and conversations and for letting me spend a wee bit of your holiday with you.
g’nite *poof*

Why in the world would BP NOT be giving (and recommending) masks for their employees at this point. Seems really stupid.
The key is you don’t do this at the local level. You set this up for the High level types who then have to dance. You get some one with a HR title or Sience background to answer the question. Who you ask is part of the game as well as where you ask.

Dayam, I hope I didn’t cause the sudden crash of relaxed politics…! 8-(
My scathing Israeli post was almost finished…! 8-(
I shall pick up where I left off and start over at the Seminal…!
