But one thing is pretty clear about where this all starts, a lot of Republicans hate governing as much as they love loving themselves. In a report that covers the period 2000 to 2008 (who was President most of that time? Oh yeah, Dick Cheney) a pattern develops.
Staff members at an agency that oversees offshore drilling accepted tickets to sports events, lunches and other gifts from oil and gas companies and used government computers to view pornography, according to an Interior Department report alleging a culture of cronyism between regulators and the industry.
Rubbing one out, instead of regulating, was not unknown of course.
…a new government report reveals that some high-level regulators have spent more time looking at porn than policing Wall Street…the report says most of these cases began in 2008, just as the financial system began to collapse.
I now shudder more to think what is actually in the minutes of Dick Cheney’s Energy Task Force, in addition to what I have been shuddering over.

Is watching porn a requirement to become a government regulator?
I makes finding a rent-a-boy easier I would imagine.
In keeping with “family values” the other hand must be planted firmly on the Bible.
Hey wait a minute — meth isn’t a mineral.
Don’t read that book to closely, lots of begetting going on, family values and such. /s
Did anyone see the Al Jazeera presentation of Robert Fisk’s address?
This was commented on yesterday but was overwhelmed by jejune conversations. :-(
I’m tired of psycho talk: “Obama is cool” by nature… as if that were an explanation. I’d much rather dissect his policies. These are actions (or omissions) of which he is guilty of:
(1) Non-accountability of his Minister of Interior.
(2) Not following scientists’ advice that NO dispersant is better than any dispersant, and certainly better than the dispersant being used by BP.
(3) Not concrete blame/transparency where it is due: Has the Obama administration publicly chastised BP for buying the dispersant from a subsidiary, therefore patting their pockets during cleanup?
(4) Not removing bureaucratic barriers so that the government of Louisiana could build their “dams”.
(5) Telling animal care volunteer organizations not to go here or there because “BP will take care of that wildlife: they are to do it”.
(6) Not putting in regulations such as Canada, which requires that a relief well be built at the same time as a production well.
(7) Not making immediately available financial support for families whose livelihood has been destroyed. What, do they have to wait six months or a year till BP moves to settle their claim? Sounds like the bureaucratic pace of Russia…
I voted for Obama. I am staying home during the next presidential elections. I will not vote Republican, but will never vote for this man again.
Obama is the best argument against not wasting your vote. The system can’t produce anything but a smooth talking, good looking know nothing.
But he’s a Genius, just not in anything that relates to the needs of the common man.
Good morning all.
I liked the part where the oil corps wrote their safety reports in pencil & the MMS guys traced over them in ink before signing them. On KO last night.
“A lot of Republicans hate governing as much as they love loving themselves.”
Thanks to the Repubs, everyone knows that government is the only solution to all the problems we created by treating government as the problem. Everyone but the Obama Administration, that is.
Thank you for that Fisk link. It really is bloody time for reporters to become reporters again and for editors to be rehired.
How many of Bush’s people are still there? IIRC, Bush switched some workers to a different category to make it impossible for Obama to get rid of them. It will take decades to undo the damage BushCo. did. Or, as we’ve seen, the damage is done…we’re screwed.
OT, Hysterical….Ms. Palin does not like her new neighbor who is also writing a biography…..she says she will put up a tall fence. What a nice welcome to the neighborhood….Ms Hospitality.
#7 Not making immediately available financial support for families…
This is really a sad statement regarding these families.
They should be taken care of and given relief immediately and let BP (yeah, right) make up the difference in the final settlement which should be around 2050.
O has no desire to undo any damage W did. O likes W’s ‘policies’ because they encourage all the right campaign contributions.
Check out TBogg for further hilarity. However, (I can’t believe I’m writing this) I agree with Palin. Everytime she steps out her door she’ll be photographed. I couldn’t live with that pressure.
Thanks nomolos, lots of reading there, Fisk does underline the importance of language, how it is used, and for what purpose.
Also OT, The Guardian has a huge article on Ireland’s economy, which in many ways is a microcosm of the U.S. in that the prevailing neo-liberal economic theories were (edit: and still are) operative. Ireland is the canary in that theoretical mine and may be used to explore other ways of addressing the economy in a less destructive way. Re-reading Naomi Klein’s “The Shock Doctrine” would also give the proper environment for understanding. All the best…
If the Genius wanted, he could have marginalized bush plants without firing them by giving them a windowless closet with no phone or computer to watch porn. They would have removed themselves.
obama has who he wants doing the corporate conga line dance.
Oh, this is rich. The SCOTUS, with 6 R.C.s, will decide whether Vatican gets immunity from sexual abuse cases. O, of course, backs criminals.
Respectfully disagree. Obama’s hardly all that I’d hoped for but he’s lightyears ahead of Bush. I think we’ve forgotten how bad Bush was. Bush’s whole plan was to put anti-government people in jobs that required governing.
You are very generous….though Ms Palin usually loves the camera! ;)
Should they all recuse themselves?
SCOTUS is completely corrupt, just like rest of USG. No solution.
Having read the minds of the Founding Fathers using their Original Intent™ beenie caps,
they’ve unanimously agree not to recuse themselves.
Reminds me of Carson’s KarMac, if that was his name, reading the future to tune into Original Intent.
Completely OT, the disenfranchisement of Eric Massa’s former
victimsconstituents continues apace.BP has more representatives in Congress than NY-29.
Amazing the advances in technology, Original Intent™beenie caps. Where before it was seance and ouija boards to do that very thing. /s
First call up on WJ sez Greenpeace causes the BP oil well blowup. I’ve got to turn off TV & read a book.
O please….tell us how that happened?
That’s funny, because I thought it was Steven Seagal.
Worst.Movie.Ever.
Except for all the other Steven Seagal movies.
Supporting my contention that large swaths of the U.S. public are the most ignorant, naive and easily manipulated electorate of any electorate in the advanced industrialized world.
He listens to Rush, that’s his latest rant.
Gawd– I wonder how Nino and Strip Search Sammy will rule on that one.
What’s the rationale? I turned it off before I heard the rest of it.
Any mention of Rush should always include his ridiculing of Michael Fox…the man has no conscience and or kindness or remorse.
I think it’s because Greenpeace fought having more oil wells on land, forcing oil companies to drill offshore. I didn’t say it made sense.
See that Obama went up to have lunch with the Republicans yesterday. They called him 2 faced and accused him of using them as a prop. I know he was a bipartisanship fetish but didn’t realize he apparently has a masochistic streak as well. Has he even bothered to have lunch with the “Democratic” caucus?
Thanks. I knew it wouldn’t make sense, just askin’.
In other Palin news, her choice in the Idaho race lost.
OT the GOP loves Money so boycotts are the way to hurt them.

Gotta go…see all later.
Cool!
How is Obama using them as a prop? Obama has given them everything George Bush would have?
The R’s accused him of using them as props.
Yeah Ireland is in deep doodoo. The attraction of instant riches was too much for people to resist and consequences were of no consequence.

John McCain loves the immigration law lets see if he loves his wife’s money?
Stiglitz (in Freefall) defines financial engineering as creating financial products that provide above average returns long enough for their creators to benefit, before they blow up. And he would add, now the financial system is so corrupt, their creators don’t even care, as they know the taxpayer will bail them out.
Props? sure in some sadomasochistic dungeon fantasy of being died up helpless unable to do anything.
But I thought the GOP loved victims who don’t fight back?
You jest of course. Coloured water is more like it!
I thought that was called a Ponzi scheme and it is supposed to be illegal isn’t it?
There’s nothing Republicans love more than money.
So the parasites are going to eat as much as fast as they can now? They do know chances are we can’t bail them out again?
Obama touches Social Security the older White Male Tea Baggers will go nuts. Obama can’t end the war so where will the money come from?
Details never seem to trouble financial experts.
It’s only illegal when the little guy does it.
You’ve drank Natural light I see. First time I drank it I thought I had blown my last $5 my first day of college on a pitcher of non alcoholic beer.
I was not pleased.
Thats why boycotts hurt and in this economy no company can afford even a 1% drop in sales.
They don’t care about ruining the U.S. economy. They’ve got theirs stashed in the Cayman Islands. So they’ll continue their behavior until that happens. If it wasn’t this time, they’ll press ahead for as many times as it takes.
I told my money manager friend that all investment research should be on the short side. My caveat is that it is easy to recognize the problems LOOOOONG before they actually hit. And every dip in the market is still viewed as a buying opportunity. So there’s plenty of time to prepare for the final disaster.
If we do a big enough boycott maybe we can get the beer company to strip Cindy of her beer franchise because she costs them to much money?
Its that bad everything on shorts?
The most I see is a sleight pause in our governments downward descent. Bush was two steps towards the brink, Obama is
one step backa pause.and that final disaster will harm those who can least afford it. The plutocrats will be just fine, regardless of party. The future of the U.S. may well make “The Lord of the Flies” look like a monk’s retreat.
I don’t understand your Q.
Oooo. Monk’s retreat. The imagination runs wild.
All investment research should be on short side I took to mean your shorting stocks. Your shorting with everything in your portfolio?
You need to read more carefully. I typed all investment RESEARCH, not all investments. Then my next sentence is critically important about the time horizon before moving from research to action.

Ok
democracynow headlines covering sinking of S. Korean ship. I haven’t seen any evidence that it was done by DPRK, just assertions. Anyone know of a good source?
Last night Nova on PBS had a program about super volcano’s one of which is in Yellowstone. One volcano in what is now Sumatra erupted 75,000 years ago and it’s effect on global climate. Quite fascinating.

“7. Not making immediately available financial support for families whose livelihood has been destroyed. What, do they have to wait six months or a year till BP moves to settle their claim?”
According to Adm. Thad Allen (Coast Guard, National Incident Commander), BP has provided grants to the affected states to cover immediate needs of the affected families. No info that I can find on the amount of these grants so far, but payment disbursements to the families are and will be at the perogative of the state.
I saw that show if that one goes off global cooling will have everyone running to Mexico.
6 months to get their cash? Thats insane people will be losing their houses by then. Home, Car etc loans they all have penalties for late payments will the banks waive those payments?
Just what is Obama doing about this?
OT, here’s an advertisement mocking BP.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/25/bp-mocked-with-hilariousl_n_588937.html
Good source? I read three or four accounts yesterday before I found one that included any statement from the north, and that was just a basic unattributed denial. I saw a photo of what appeared to be the south Korean ship lifted out of the water by a crane, so there ought to be some hard physical evidence. I’m half expecting the thing to be immediately cut up and sold as scrap.
A link to the BP live video feed. Appears they haven’t started the “top kill.”
http://www.bp.com/liveassets/bp_internet/globalbp/globalbp_uk_english/homepage/STAGING/local_assets/bp_homepage/html/rov_stream.html
It looks like mud is now mixed with the oil escaping the leak. Must be trying the “top kill.”
Stella I can safely ignore, but Hoegaarden and Leffe? What a catastrophe!
