Hurricane Creekkeeper, along with SouthWings pilot Tom Hutchings and his daughter Brinkley, fly out to the source of the BP slick to give us a bird’s eye view of the disaster. The sadness in his voice is heartbreaking, “We have to do something. We need every scientific mind in the country working on this, and not just those at BP who are trying to protect the resource.” (YouTube link, h/t to TalkingStick for the video.)

About Firedoglake
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Friedman, Kristof and Rich this morning. In “Lies as Wishes” MoDo says the truth about lies is that they’re sometimes aspirational truths. The Moustache of Wisdom, in “Bumper to Bumper,” says we’re driving bumper to bumper with every other major economy today, so misbehavior or mistakes anywhere can cause a global pileup. Mr. Kristof is in Mont-Belo, Congo Republic. In “Moonshine or the Kids?” he addresses being on the annual win-a-trip journey, and finding families without enough money to pay school fees, but with plenty for booze and cigarettes. Mr. Rich, in “The ‘Randslide’ and Its Discontents,” says the Democrats need a compelling response to the populist rage of the Tea Party movement.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got blueberry pancakes for breakfast. I’ve also got some cucumber salad with a mayonnaise/sour cream, scallion and dill dressing. The cucumbers are from the garden, the first time I’ve had success with them. Apparently the secret is lots of regular watering. The plants have gone wild! Have a great day.
Gov. Sarah Palin On FOX is the only person of consequence who will appear on otherwise boring, listless Sunday talk shows. Gov. Palin’s brand of charming banter, home-spun wisdom, acerbic humor, and lightning jabs at the lamestream media is always refreshing & informative.
Thanks, Elliott, that video of the oil spill from above is sickening. Mother Earth just gushing, what were they thinking.
and thanks, Marion, from Rich; “That Paul gave his victory speech in a “members only” country club is no contradiction to white Tea Partiers. Their anger is directed at a loftier club that excludes them as well: the big-government and big-money elites partying together in that high-rise penthouse. ”
Tho’t he told Rachel that he persnally didn’t indulge …
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
An Andy Borowitz Headline:
Thanks, Elliot. Good morning, everyone.
And then there’s this on Twitter:
he no doubt meant to say, “pubic property”.
Johnathan Alter on chris Matthews mentioning that the teabaggers are still about 20% on a good day, not gonna beat all those incumbents Noron says are past history unless we all get jobs. Alter says Pres.O was just stunned that the wingers really didn’t want to pull the country out fo depression.
“Mr. Rich, in “The ‘Randslide’ and Its Discontents,” says the Democrats need a compelling response to the populist rage of the Tea Party movement.”
Yea but…wasn’t that more or less what Obama was supposed to be?
The elections of 2008 were to a large degree the expression of America’s pent-up rage against the decimations of the Repubs. Things have turned around so gone so bad, so quickly, it’s hard to even remember our recent euphoria.
Some people’s recent euphoria. I knew Obama was a bounder from the get-go.
We are now in the position of having to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and form a populist movement against our own leadership. The Tea Partiers, of course, have no idea what’s going on.
The Mooning of America
O’s days of being stunned by corps and wingers should be over. He’s spending too much time contemplating the best path to success (I’m especially referring to the oil spill). He had better become more decisive and show some action or he’s in trouble.
I’m expecting the right to start becoming hyper-critical of BP (even though this goes against the grain) and nailing Obama for his inaction.
funny, I just got an ad for teabaggers as bailout crusaders, which is not where I see them at all, since that was started up by the right. of course, they’re generally fact free anyway. I think they go right up to Freedoms as libertarian, then fall over the Rule of Law speed bump, and fall apart.
What a sad day for NYT commentators.
That cucumber salad sounds great. *holding out plate*
Good morning everyone.
morning everyone, panera live blog to follow, I need to respond to this first;
WHY IS THIS NOT BROADCAST ON PROGRESSIVE BLOGS?
this is the reason there is still a leak, it’s the only reason
this oil well is a “gusher” gushers don’t exist anymore and there it is, so much crude it gushes from the ground
they are trying desperately to keep their gusher rather then save the eco system
we need bp OFF the panel, we need REAL scientists on it, we need to shut this gusher down PRONTO
and here it is
I’ve been doing great on my diet, great in recovery for my hip replacement, after about 8, I am about 8 months ahead of schedule, am already on the courts, hitting balls and enjoying the summer, out of pain and walking with no detectable limp
panera is empty, and they opened the place for me since I am the only one here, seems like such a waste of food though
have given up coffee, they have a bottom less cup of green tea and that’s what gets me going in the morning
overcast but warm and am enjoying sitting here by the lake
HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH EVERYONE!
Happy for you, Perris. I keep talking diet and exercise but so far it’s been a meager effort.
Hey perris, good on you.
that’s good to hear, perris. good going.
Trouble? Expect to hear an announcement in the days ahead that the CEO of BP will officially be taking up residence in the WH. They’ll keep Obama around because good help is hard to find.
Man after my own heart…congrats! I was driving and back to work a week after my knee replacement 5 years ago. I think it’s partly (with me) very high pain tolerance and very gritty determination.
Headed off on a bike ride. See y’all later!
Has Rand Paul canceled on FNS? I was hoping he’d bail on Press the Meat but still show up on FNS. No doubt DeMint told him that he could hardly cancel one appearance citing exhaustion but keep another at a friendlier venue.
I think Rand is done giving interviews…period. Okay, maybe on Fox once in awhile but that’s it. No more interviews, no more taking questions from reporters. He’s going to follow Palin’s example in 2008.
One serious question here…how does a libertarian justify wanting abortions banned. I would have thought that on that issue, libertarians and liberals would agree.
That one’s easy. Murder is murder. It’s not a choice.
The obvious question is will Kentucky voters, (who aren’t batsh*t crazy teabaggers), vote for a man who won’t speak with reporters, answer questions or debate his opponent?
Is that a typical libertarian point of view or is that something Paul modified to please the tea-baggers?
All I know is that it is his father’s position, so I assume it’s his. Has nothing to do with libertarianism.
I don’t see a snark tag. Are you sure you’re in the right place?
Actually I need to clarify. I have no idea how Ron Paul rationalizes no abortions with libertarianism. I’m assuming that it’s because he thinks it’s murder, but I don’t know that for sure.
Neither Rand Paul nor his father are true Libertarians. Their ideology is more like extreme right wing conservative points of view. I think Ron Paul started to misuse the word Libertarian to distinguish himself from other, more moderate Republicans. My brother and sister in law call themselves Libertarian too but they are extremely pro choice. Neither of them would suggest repeal of the Civil Rights Act or Americans with Disabilities Act. They acknowledge that sometimes government must intervene for the good of society, but they blame misbehaving citizenry for that intervention, rather than government overreach. Totally apart from what the teabagger Libertarian thinks.
They also believe in a sort of one strike rule, (like I do), which is that corporations who have demonstrated their lack of concern for worker safety and environmental protection one time should never be allowed to demonstrate that lack of concern again.
They just seem to cling to this idea that they can do without government in their own lives if they so choose. My sister in law just graduated medical school and my brother is a P.A. and a Paramedic and they have grandiose plans of setting up practice for indigent people on a true barter system. This is as much to poke the IRS in the eye as it is to do something decent for people. This is what I always think about when I think of a Libertarian. I may be wrong in that interpretation but the Pauls are more like wingnuts than anything else.
mMmm pancakes Good morning, everyone.
It was just sad watching that video.
LOL!
oh my.
go perris!
well, he’ll surely be at the next state dinner.
yes, Sarah Palin’s the replacement.
thanks for the Gulf overlook video, Elliott. ql has been posting it ever since I put it up – at some other blog.
I’m sure that a few winks from Sarah will convince the FNS viewers that Paul isn’t really ducking them….that he’s really just tired from all of the “gotcha” questions from those awful, filthy libruls. Also.
Listening to the lead in to Fox News Sunday, Wallace doesn’t mention that Rand Paul canceled, act as if Palin was the regular guest. even tho he asks Palin about the to-do about Rand Paul
gregory telling me Rand cancelled and put his chances on the line. No, didn’t make the connection quite that obvious.
I know I should not reference Big Orange Idiots, but they are funny. “With All Due Respect, James Carville Is No Expert On Oil Spills”, by NedSparks uses a Bushie I shill to defend Obama’s epic failure.
I do not mind bashing Mr. Matalin, but the sycophants also must bash “leftists”. Some Kossaks are in denial, but at least we can laugh at the greatest human environmental disaster. Maybe the Oil Companies are not human. The Barack Adminstration does not seem human. Some comments,
Afraid to ask, but, what was Palin’s take on Rand?
:)
Funny Wallace asked Palin adapted versions of the questions he had for Rand Paul, Palin a surrogate supporter
Note to MTP via Gregory blames media’s liberal bias, Cornyn saying he needs to be home with KY voters. role of gov’t in our lives will be a question, says Cornyn, voters worried – and Gregory saying should have tho’t his views thru. Cornyn applauds for clarifying his view. Not a politician, carried thru to logical end and views … ooops
she justified his positions, btw she borrowed a necklace from Wilma Flintstone.
*sigh*
It’s hard for some people to wake up and smell the oil spill, isn’t it?
I was just wondering if Greg the Wanker was going to even mention Paul.
Essentially, he just said Rand blew the campaign becuase he blew off MTP.
I’ll never watch MTP again. At least not until they remove Gregory. He really is loathsome and useless. His stated goal is to be a Villager, why that should qualify him for what is by definition an adversarial role is beyond me.
He probably didn’t help his campaign much because Gregory would have let him get away with refusing to answer questions with an eye on the guest list for the next Republican function in DC. That being said, I seriously doubt MTP will have that much influence. They are the librul media after all….
He’s all over Sestak for being part of the establishment and responsible for the deficit and TARP and all. Watch MTP for same reason I watch Rand on Rachel, to know what’s the joke.
Listening to Jessie Jackson’s “Keep Hope Alive” it appears the black community is beginning to turn on Obama. It’s imperative to keep chipping away at his carefully crafted persona and expose his true agenda.
Don’t get me wrong Ruth. I’m not finding fault at your watching MTP. I just gave up trying to stomach Gregory. I can’t do it, there isn’t enough Pepto Bismal in the world!
That’s my response to many wingers, altho I try to steel myself.
What is? The Pepto Bismal thing? Yeah, it’s just that being unemployed I can’t really afford to buy a new television and the last time I watched Gregory repeatedly interrupt Rachel Maddow and when he went through the entire show without letting her complete a sentence, my set nearly didn’t make it to “To the Contrary”.
‘The Pepto Bismal thing’ – yep. Kinda like their lips are moving and everything coming out is blatantly false. Try as I like, my stomach revolts.
All you poking at Paul and that party, I ask you to take the log out of your own eye? How about those Democrats? How has anything they’ve done been working out for you? I’m not a teabagger or even a conservative. The “New Democrats” are not liberal enough. At least Paul has a new direction for us on foreign policy. What about Obama and Pelosi? What is their plan? More back room deals and a continuation of what hasn’t worked in the past 8+ years? Wow.. So happy the Democrats are in charge.
Go ahead drink the Maddow kool-aid.. You’re all myopic fools.
Gigot now telling us that pRES O is responsible for driving us all rightwards. not sure I’ll see much more of this.
Kirsten Powers, on the Fox News All Star panel just gave Hume the fits over the AZ immigration bill. Was hysterical, she left him muttering…
