About Firedoglake
Aloha, Suz…!
Suz!
So, I’m reading the title of this toon, and laughing like a 12 year old.
Because I am, apparently.
OK, I will watch now.
Evening Ms. Suzanne.
Suz!
The Finale of Lost just started here…!
aloha ct — how’s paradise tonight?
hey newton — i think you will enjoy it :) how’s the west bay dood?
hey bg — how ya doing tonight?
Aloha, LL…! How’s Virginny…? *g*
Hot. Cold. It just can’t make up it’s mind.
You?
its the rerun of the first episode — just got over here. the finale is tomorrow nite…
LL! how’s va tonight?
Who’s watching the weather…? ;-)
wet not wet cold and not as cold. like november in may
Oh bummers…! I’ll be up top Tomorrow nite…! 8-(
rough nite dood :(
starts at 7 and is over at 1130
its my week to host lln tomorrow nite
It was really windy today, again. But we still have fruit on our trees. Apricots, rare. I have buds on some tomato plants. Garden looking hopeful.
Suz, LL, how’s everyone? Pretty day here.
i had gusts up to 58 this week — finally quieted down and my potted plants on the deck appear to have survived. in fact, my peony has a new flower bud and more leaf shoots. never had it do a second bloom before.
Aloha CT, aloha Suz — it’s a rainy night in the Old Dominion, nice and quiet :-)
hey margot — how ya doing tonight?
Hi Margot! *waving*
Suz, I loved the toon — very cool early 60′s hep-cat vibe ;-)
thanks ll — i was tappin’ my toes (in a non larry craig way) to the tunes in the toon. was hoping folks would like it
Well, you’ll still be able to hear it at least…! ;-)
I’ll have to watch it later on hulu or something…!
Btw, did you see my latest pics…?
those don’t load — seems to be stuck in a loop or something and the page doesn’t load :(
Had a great time talking on the phone long-distance to a friend who I’ve known since we were 3. She would rather I not refer to her as “my oldest friend.” lol
I just got a screen that said “Windows Live” and then a crash.
No, kidding. Nice stuff.
Try this…!
i don’t have windows live.. that must be why i can’t see em
You’re not liking your job anymore?
hahaha what term would she prefer ya use?
Are you a wreck over the finale tomorrow night?
Hey, Suz! Casper wasn’t in the toon (though it was a good one!)
hey loohoo — how’s socal tonight?
hiya Suz
Hello to newt and Loo Hoo :-) *waving*
It was downright cold here in SD today. Brrr.
it was shown as a separate cartoon on the casper tv show — madcap used the casper show to feature other characters besides casper
LL! long-time, no ya’know.
My peonies bloomed like crazy this year. Showy things. I had no idea they might ever bloom twice. I just planted a bunch of flower seeds. It usually gets so hot, nothing really does very well in the heat. I am trying some heavy mulching this year, hope that makes a difference. The tomatoes really go for it so far.
A ‘B’ side.
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
Still can’t see them…? It is Windoze as Newt affectionately calls it…! ;-)
Beautiful!
i used to get a buncha blooms all at once and then it was just leafs until fall. totally strange weather this year musta fooled it into thinking it is spring again.
not via firefox browser
For realz! Too much work lately, not enough play. Decided to take my whole 3 day weekend off, instead of working OT on one of the days like I’ve usually done. Nice :-)
I don’t know, I just try to go with “friends since childhood” or something like that.
excellent analogy newton
ask her that next time she says something about you saying that
Hey, right behind me is an Apple laptop running XP Pro.
That’s unusual, isn’t it?
It was awesome…! There wasn’t a cloud in the sky as I was headed up…! ;-)
Hey, girl scout! Nice to see you. How’s the dispatching going these days?
I had poppies that bloomed again, a couple years ago, after I cut them back. I didn’t know they’d do that.
seems to work for me via firefox.
some nice snaps, they are too
Nice to see you too! It’s going well, getting busier as the weather gets warmer.
n-v
I think I will blow off next Thursday for no good reason. It would be unique to be bored.
Can ya send an email to Suz with it…? Bitte…? ;-)
hey mac — how’s noo yawk city tonight?
Do it! It does a body good once in a while ;-)
CT, what are those forms in the photos? They look ceramic-ish.
Solidified Lava…! You see all the cinder cones and craters too, eh…? ;-)
Interesting. I had old friends from Minnesota over today. Folks I spent many summers with on Grace Lake. It was so cool that my mom got together with her friend from high school, and we “kids” spent so many summers together with. Hadn’t seen them in 30 years, but it all clicked!
how cool loohoo. a day catching up on memory lane with old friends is always fun
the weather’s lovely and the house is filled with the smell of freshly baked bread from some marathon bakefest held here for some reason known only to the lady of the house and her cohort.
Somewhat unusual. It can be cold (and by that I need socks!) through June. It’s just strange that it can be so hot one day, and cold the next. Blue skies one day, and rainclouds the next.
I’m talking about the things in front of the sunsets. Are those buildings? I don’t think it’s lava. . .
I’m into the primroses for that same reason.
*heh* Last night’s Graduation was quite the stroll down memory lane…! Let me tell you…! ;-)
i love the smell of freshly baked bread. *sigh* that sounds delightful mac
Got my tickets to go see Levon Helm later this summer at Wolf Trap — so excited!
They’re, from left to right, Subaru Telescope, the twin domes of Keck Observatory, and, Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope(CFHT)…! ;-)
oooooo ll that’s gonna be so much fun — you will provide lotsa details for us here at late late nite who can’t go, right?
OK, that makes sense.
I sure will Suz — John Hiatt is opening, should be a great show!
*more sighs*
Doing well, thanks Suz
they probably look slightly larger “in person” than they do in the photo.
Speaking of which… Whenever the Grad gets back with the cam, I’m gonna post some of her pics of the event…!
Evening pups. Kinda rainy but pleasant today.
Took a pass on the farmers mkt today — still have tomatoes and strawberries left from last week… and tons of asparagus. Gotta stop over shopping.
*heh* They most certainly are…! The twin domes of Keck alone would fill Giants Stadium…! ;-)
Do you catch Bill Egnor’s Sunday Seminal baking class? Fragels(?) aside, he whips up some good-looking stuff.
hey sunny — ours doesn’t start up until the middle of june :( how ya doing tonight?
Sigh indeed, I’ve been a Hiatt fan for a long time and have never had the opportunity to see him.
I think I’ll probably see more shows as I near retirement, and go into retirement in the next 3 years, than I ever did when I was younger…
hey Sunny!
i missed it :( will look for them in the future
It’s just unbelievable how old ladies will say ANYTHING that comes to mind! All social screens are blown up!
Can’t beat that! Homemade bread is the best.
tis nice when ya can let it all hang out when hanging out with old friends… and when they forget that ya once were a kid who was shielded from that when ya were younger, well that’s a real eye opener
I’m seeing that…. looks like manmade pots.
Drop a coin into the slot:
Twenty Flight Rock
So cool! Give us the low-down LL!
3rd stone from the sun
I definitely will — it’s not until later in July, but I’ll surely report!
I may not know… most of been a dozen of ‘em baking…they went through 50lbs of flour… and all I see is one foil-wrapped lump in the kitchen.
and I ain’t had but the smell…. *sigh*
Doing good…. wired, but nicotine free :-)
It don’t get no better than SRV…
yay!!!
happy 100 ll
Gawd, I remember that!
Hi Sunny. I’ve got my garden growing to where I’ll need to take some to the food bank. Last year was my first year of gardening, and I didn’t realize how much would come back from last year’s seeds.
hey! How’s that fine kitty?
You and I may be of an age then! ;-)
hahaha — second time I think I’ve snagged that! Thanks!
Would it be really out of line to suggest sausage gravy on toast?
That’s exciting!
Oh she’s just as sweet and cute as ever, thanks — and we just celebrated her one year anniversary in her new home :-)
That would be correct.
Has anyone here ever done any genealogical research on line? I was trying it today, and nothing but frustration. I keep finding these places that want a credit card, and I just don’t want it that bad. But I hear there are free places.
Really looking forward to that show Margot :-)
Whoo Hoo LL!
Haven’t done any serious research, but there are forums out there which seem to be free — Genforum, I believe, is one. Once in a while I go looking at various forums to see if anyone is looking for a particular name in my family.
Did you try whatever the Mormon Church has? I know that they keep pristine records, and a lot of people use them.
i’ve tried some dabbling but ran into the same credit card wall. i’ve not been motivated enough to really dig into it since my sister, who did our family geneology stuff pre-computer, is now online. i’m hoping she will do some online research.
Mmmmm, cake!
cake
not at all. specially if the I get to throw in a little hot paprika. sounds right fine.
*snap* *snap*
Krazy man, the bop’s the rage!
Love the princess hanging low and snappin her fingers.
Great toon!
Wassup LLN!
Just in case Larue is lurking —
Jack-a-Roe
the drive up coffee shack i use makes the bestest biscuits and gravy — even better than my aunt blue’s, may she rest in peace and never know i said that.
speaking of the devil… hey larue how’s sac tonight daddio?
Presto!
This is the one, I think…! ;-)
heh — it’s like I conjured him up outta nowhere!
OH LL YOU HIT ME TO MY QUICK!!!
*breathless*
*G*
For you, then . .
The Lucky One
*bows*
magic
Oh this is beautiful, and I hadn’t heard it before…huge thanks!
*bows back*
*sigh* He was about due, M’dear…! ;-)
Probably the best place to start is the Latter Day Saints (LDS/Mormon Church)…. they acquire and share info as part of their mission. And they deal in primary sources.
Try this link.
;-)
Very COOL!
Hi Suz and company. Today I witnessed a day of joyfull children bouncing up and down and inventing games in a rented air house for birthdays outside of my living room window.Their energy was encroyable (incredible}. That is what my yoga teacher says is our natural state. All day they jumped and emitted sound of joy. It was wonderful!
Weather has been very gusty wind all week. Got in a good weight work out for runners tonight. Plenty of room for improvement. The prana practice (controlled breath) is great for running and weight training.
The princes that loves jazz can really bat an eye lash when around the trumpet cat! That was very funny for me as she morphed from princess into hip cat. And a happy ending! Yeah.
Being a yogi is not as easy at it appears another day for that.
Thunderboomers outside right now, better shut down…thank you Suz and pups, g’night all!
Aloha, LL…! Good luck…! *g*
g’nite ll — stay safe
That could be the one, I’m not sure. Looks authentic, though.
Snap daddy kewl, so kewl I got my shades on at night, man.
Kewl like it was lo 60′s today, never happens in May.
Kewl like Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Kerouac, Will Burroughs, Neal Cassady.
That phreak Ken Kesey was a latter beat daddy, too . . . but shunned.
Jack’s Close, *snap* *snap* Where’s my black turtleneck and black beret.
hey bb — looks like another system is gonna hit here or south of me and hit you mid week. glad ya liked the toon. how ya doing?
May I offer another . . .
Haunting, Dobro Laden, Always Alison, Always Her . . . . Passion. Always.
*sniff*
larue’s trippin’ down memory lane :)
Into White?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJNH6l9APJU&feature=related
oooo i like that mac
Very pretty, Larue. I got to see Alison a couple of years ago with Robert Plant, and man, was that wonderful!
And may I say, I first heard of this song in Fall ’01 at our first Strawberry Fest. Camp jam fav by folks that are now dear friends, some gone, some still with us.
It was one of the FIRST songs I wanted to learn, when I got my dobro in Spring the next year.
I truly HEART this song . . . . if one youtube’s it, there are a few other versions that harken a bit more to it’s older Celtic origin . . .
But Dawg and Jerry . . . this is it for me.
You broke my heart, and mended it again to the quick with this one.
*bows*
Very. very nice!
Hey, thanks for the hints about the family tree. Still not getting anything.
I’m trying to find out some info for my mom. I probably would be better off digging around the house for old family papers at this point.
Have a good one everybody. I woke up exhausted today, need to hit the hay.
fav allison
I can give him one of my GI issued black berets…! ;-)
g’nite bg
now that’s what i’m talking about
A wee boppin beat bit . . . ya noticed? ;-)
just a tad.. former highly trained observer yanno… *wink*
I found some info on findagrave dot com. I have a very computer-savvy and industrious second cousin out there who entered in a lot of info.
rootsweb dot com is free, too.
Primo latin Soul doncha know I feed on this.
some ti to feed on
Dayam, pretty gruesome name…!
Didn’t see that tour, way too pricey for us.
But we DID get to see AK and Union Station twice out here from ’02-04.
They command HUGE fee’s to show up.
$60K.
So I count myself lucky I saw them.
What’s so phreakin funny is I used to see her and the same band (other musicians then) in SF at pubs in the early 80′s when I lived on The Peninsula.
She was a brunette, looonggg hair, and quite pudgy by at least 70 lbs then. And that hi voice of hers just cut to the quick and yer heart, even then.
Musician wise, I think she’s one of the greats with all the abilities to play a fiddle, sing, arrange, and determine what sound and songs SHE wants to use, as a band leader.
She’s a legend, to me. She’s set the tone for music and taken it forward so far in her time, that others are still catching up and using what she’s done in ALL aspects, from tone, to instrumentation, arranging, producing in the studio, and women who have followed her, are leading bands and using her model for success as well.
Like Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss changed how things got done in Nashville, and that’s a hard ass fucking town for women, and all musicians. Alison owns it. Flat out, owns, Nashville.
There’s not a male artist that can say that.
I’m honored you and others like it . . . she’s special to me for many reasons. One of the best. Ever.
You speak my heart, Suz . . . that’s a sweet one.
Folks still don’t know about this music, and it’s 15 years old, with this band, and 25 years old, goin back to SF and her older daze.
She’s a gift. A monster. A mover, shaker, and she changed how shits done in the business and in Nashville.
Lots of folks know know that, but she’s a rebel and the best ever since Dolly in that fashion of dominating and telling them BOYS, how HER shit’s gonna get done.
You picked about my 3rd or so fav in her best 10. And you know me, I’m a dobro fan, with Jerry Douglas in her band. And I put at LEAST 3 of her songs up there in my favs with Jerry just playin back up. Yep, she’s a delight.
My Daughter’s senior class song, in which they did an admirable job singing…! ;-)
Got one, non military. Turtleneck, too.
*SNAPSNAP*
;-)
Steady as she goes. Late night is jammin tonight hope your jammin too. I’m into a yoga practice which is a frame for successful living. Strength, compassion, purity and clean living with an eye toward service. And respecting the god within you.
ala your true self. That is a big bite out of the apple so am pretty occupied. Hopefully will start to produce some results.
*smiles*
Just got back from the benefit, we raised $331 for Nashville musicians who’ve lost all their gear.
Not a king’s ransom but since there was no cover and all donations were voluntary, I’d say we did ok.
Wish some pups would have come out but oh well…
all admirable goals bb — and you sound like you are enjoying the journey, always a good thing
hangin’ low
http://gosmellthecoffee.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/mice.jpg
hey thatguy — that is wonderful. i sure wish i cudda come and did send out the info to some bay area folks i know.
when every penny is needed, every penny helps dood.
Epic. Simply epic. His Caravan album was one of those along the jazz greats.
And Samba Pa Ti is one of THOSE songs.
I’m quite surprised it hasn’t been done as much by others such as tunes like Spain, etc.
I had a blast, too, played with some people I haven’t played with in a LONG time. VERY fun.
Next time. Another guy and I are talking about doing another one on a larger scale.
Hoss, where was this?
yay and double yay!!!
Sweet sweet thoughtful sensitive groove. Have to start callin you the librarian of love. You pull them out like rabbits out of the hat.
Santa Clara. I mentioned it to you last week.
*blushing*
I’ll leave some Tears
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhlZCzzoTVY&feature=related
OK, heh, short term memory loss thang ya know . . .
The Nashville folks and TN folks are getting overlooked cuz of Deepwater Horizon Gusher.
Good on ya for helpin them out.
Abraxas is one of my fav from Carlos.
another southern city and state left to drown *sigh*
Youse dig le Zhazzz?
Hmmmm . . .
Stephane and Django are legends.
Le Hot Club and all that.
I’ve got live digital (transfer from tape) of Grisman’s Original Quintet hosting Stephane in about ’84 I think, at Great American Music Hall. I was actually there one night out of two. I’m not the taper. The taper did great work off of FM. YEP, it was broadcast . . . incredible. The only time I ever saw Stephane.
Hmmmm. You like Le Zhazz, do ya . . . .
here ya go
Yeah, and if the poor people weren’t enough, there’s the whole Nashville Scene, Opry, Museums, and instruments and history that have been destroyed. Others have spoken of this above, in comments.
It’s sad.
Here is a sweet song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNtT6iVUy7E&feature=related
Jardin d’hiver means winter garden.
Carlos has soared for decades like few others.
*bows*
Nice pick.
ooooh that is smooth margot
bb’s pick, i just found it for him
I apologize for this drive-by, but it’s getting brutal out there. Today, Glenzilla laid Obama’s ass bare.
What the hell can you say to that?
so what
hey wigwam — nice drive by :) always a pleasure to see your fonts
Hold up, Larue! Allison used to compete with my long-time-ago neighbor, Stuart Duncan. They both still travel together and recently with Robert Plant! Good music, for sure.
(And I used to babysit Stuart!)
Had an uncle was a recording engineer for Columbia Records. He did a lot of their jazz stuff in the fifties and sixties. I got to hear all sorts of stuff. Got to watch him work with everyone from Miles Davis to Moby Grape.
how forking kewl mac *jealous sigh*
Cafe Royale Pickin, sweet.
I’m still a big fan of 60′s Brazilian Zhazz.
We All Know This
And of course, Astruid and Joao Gilberto . . . .
Later in life, I fell in love with Flora Purim.
Flora With Stan Getz
Flora Her First Solo Ablum
Flora, One Of My All Time Favs. 500 Miles High
Ah.
It’s simple.
We’re fucked barring INCREDIBLY huge and systemic change.
And that will come as this is all unsustainable.
Change is inevitable. Whether we create it, or it’s forced on us by life’s foibles.
But this shit’s unsustainable.
Rome and USSR are proof.
There are others . . .
Way back in 1215, habeas corpus was recognized as the basic foundation of the Magna Carta… It is the only thing that truly constrains a capricious and arbitrary ruler…! 8-(
Oh shit, that’s the stuff . . . damn, that’s the stuff.
Where’d you come outta jazz and all that . .
Damn, that’s some fine music . . .
And I’m a BIG fan of Sketches Of Spain . . .
Girl, you constantly amaze . . .;-)
*G*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMlZiuQ31DI.
happy 200 loohoo!
Yer killin me, Stuart’s a legend, too!!!
From Bluegrass Album Band, to fiddle championships, and decades now of studio work, touring with folks.
Yer killin me. Just killin me.
*G*
Stuart has risen to the status of being among the elites of the musics.
Bobby Hicks, Vassar Clements, the fiddlers for Bob Wills in his day, Bow Wills himself, Kenny Baker.
Stuart sits with them all. He’s a hoss.
Yer killin me.
I love it, LLN folks know THE GRASS!!
WHOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!
took tap, ballet, and acrobatics (as they used to call gymnastics) from age 6 until i discovered boys didn’t have cooties– after which i switched to modern dance
Dang, Suz… Poor ES barely ekes out a hundred…!
of course we do — how long ya been schooling us dood?
How would anyone know what to say about that? So sad that our President has disappointed us in such an important time. Not what we voted for at all.
he’s had nights where he has more comments than i’ve gotten ct — tis just the ebb and flow of the lake
Miles to Grape?
That’s killin me.
Heh Jerry Miller. Omaha. Naked If I Wanted Too. A few others.
Miles, what can I say. Suz nailed one of his best earlier. Say What.
You amuse . . . . ;-)
True… Especially if Larue is particularly verbose that nite…! ;-)
Wowsers!!!
and lets face it, i can be a real chatty cathy on line
Sadly, since BushCo, The Magna Carta is history. And Obama has taken NO steps to bring it back.
Which means, were now living in a country that favors and proclaims and professes laws and liege of the earlier 1200′s!!!!!
*heh* I do recall a nite or two where ya hit the 100 and the 200…! ;-)
I”ve got about 30 hours of 90′s American Music Shop (Marc O’Connor host) with a few IBMA awards shows hosted by John Hartford. Stuart Duncan is all over them like the link you posted.
He’s a hoss . . . *G*
’bout time for me to head out. i’ll be hosting lln tomorrow night (i’ll be popping in during commercials until lost is over) and hope to see ya then.
thanks for all the music and conversations tonight, and for letting me spend a wee bit of your evening with ya.
g’nite all and thanks again
A different Lee Hiway Blues.
David Bromberg
Love me some Bromberg!
*G*
Aloha, M’dear…! Pleasant Dreams…! *g*
Always our honor and pleasure to have you hostess us ma’am!
*G*
It’s truly sad at how much has been chipped off of the bedrock of liberty, l’egalite, and fraternite…!
Yer killiin me hoss . . . need some blue/newgrass music and dvd’s?
That slack key has GOT to wear on ya after a while I’d think . . . ;-)
Yep, it is my hoss LLN friend . . . frightening too.
Only comfort is it’s not sustainable.
But I don’t have children or grand children, like you and many others.
So I’m often quite flippant about it all.
When I stop and think, OTHERS have generations coming behind them, they have to account for?
That’s when I sometimes weep at it all . . .
Bless you and yours CT . . . it’s late, I gotta git.
Thanks for your thoughts, and all the other Pups, too,
Love this town. Keeps me sane . . . ;-)
Thanks, Suz, and night night.
Nice one.
First for me!
Aloha, Larue…!
Qui! Bon Soir mon amies
Native Americans plan for seven generations. Europeans are so nearsighted.
Our natural law is being usurped…!
