Early Show: The Mynabirds “Numbers Don’t Lie”
Late Show: The Naked And Famous “Young Blood”
What’s on your mind tonight?
This one’s mine, the rest of yas can whine about it.
Pfffft
Eureka!
And now I can listen to the LLN picks, at my leisure.
Sniffing a grand bouquet of Merlot, and gaze upon the minions who will gather, for the LLN.
And pondering, who were the day’s folly in postings and comments.
Pups, let’s chat!
*G*
N Howdy, ES, our most excellent host!
If ya found it, I wonder, . . . . oh, never mind, not fit for even LLN and such.
Heh, how ya DOIN hoss!
*G*
No whining… not without me anyway…)
Good evening fire dogs.
No kidding…
Excellent. Got a major project behind me, the weekend is all downhill.
You?
Confetti and balloons! Happy Friday, ES!
Alan Grayson announced HR 5353 The war is making you poor bill.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-alan-grayson/the-war-is-making-you-poo_b_585343.html
Wouldn’t it be nice if nobody wanted wars instead they wanted to be compassionate. Greed and war need to be contained. I hope FDL supports him and his bill. He is doing something. Even Gates says MIC budget needs tO be reigned in.
Grayson has a special gift for naming his bills, doesn’t he?!
If yer a woikin man, how can a woikend be down hill?
As long as it’s not uphill thru hip deep snow both ways,
You party on, hoss, you party on.
You Know The Right Time
Dare anyone to cap this one, SBW and Animals?
Heh. *smugsuptall*
Who said anything about work?
:-)
Here’s what’s on my mind tonight: Were Rand Paul and John Lydon separated at birth?
I’m worried I dove into that early.
Do I WANT all them savings from end of war and troop deploys, to go to end of taxes?
NO!
I fucked up signed it.
I want the war shit to end, and our money spent on domestic development.
We don’t’ NEED tax relief.
Per person it’s fucking peanuts!!!
I want my peanuts going to help build jobs, infrastructure, education, and social services.
Fuck the tax shit.
Man, worst petition I ever signed and worst off the cuff decision I’ve made in decades.
Thanks for branging that one up, hoss.
Heh, you and Loo Hoo @11 got me scramblin early . . .
-)
“Whhhhoooooooohhhhhh the night time, is the right time . . . ”
Sang it people . . . sang it!
A grave disservice to buddy Lydon.
Evenin’
My Babe
You can run the table there, with Sonny Boy and Animals.
Lots of other songs . . . ’63 blues where the US Black Artists Meet Them Brits.
Insane, beautiful, and rightous.
Pivotal, music wise. The future from here would never be the same.
Hi bb, Amen and pass the peace!
I heard a couple minutes with Gates on cspan yesterday or the day before.
Gates promised nothing but budget growth for mic as far into the future as he could see. And said that President Obama is in full agreement.
Wassup, subdued one . . . ;-)
Hey hey, joeyess..)
Heh heh heh heh heh I’m SO pawned . . . -)
My question is (and I will google it), Who the heck is Buddy Lydon?
Mr. B got home, finally, last night. Been paying attention to him, excepting a wee bit this afternoon when he was at an appointment.
Lordy, the lake has a bunch of Randroids stirring up chop. Blech.
Jared Diamond http://www.ted.com/talks/jared_diamond_on_why_societies_collapse.html
I vote we invite him to the Lake to talk about anything he wants to talk to us about.
He has a sweet heart
our buddy Lydon. John Lydon. Johnny Rotten.
Jared talks about Montana as a potential failed state.
Better way but he does get the focus on the waste of war and that is a good thing. and the timing before the funding decisions is nice. Seems more like a protest than a serious bill.
ES. something about #1 that I like, despite that I don’t WANT to like it.
Intrigues me for my reaction . . .
#2 is ok,
You never cease to move my bar . . .
You force me to listen to stuff I wouldn’t . . .
I don’t often LIKE it, but I listen.
I think, that’s good for me, and others.
Ergo, your point of doing so, I reckon!
*G*
Just driving by – out!
Yup. keeping up with what’s new.
And I had the same reaction to numero uno. Made this middle aging male laugh and whimper..)
Song two put a happy smile on my face obvious expressions of frustration. The next gens keep getting a shorter end of the stick. Nice find.
Heh, I’ve seen the Randroids beat to shit, too . . .
I delight in this kind of carnage.
You and yours make food, drank, and partay.
Just let me approve yer recipes . . . lol
Send food, and chafers, we’re between checks!!!!
*SMIRK*
*G*
Allman Brothers, Who?
Sonny Boy, and Yardbirds.
LORD!!!!
Jared Diamond Conflict of interest, short term interest of decision making elite vs long term interest for society as whole especially if elite can shield themselves from the consequences of their actions.
Then he links that idea to America.
Not exact transcript.
Yeah, but I got fooled by my own perogatives.
I need to get OVER that shit . . . I was fooled again.
I should be able to DO better . . . I grabbed at a straw.
AGGGGHHHH!
Ya know?
Hiya TCU… who’s Jared Diamond?
Where’s my flan!!!!!!
He wrote Guns Germs and Steel and Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed
Though I agree with your position on taxes. I love Grayson’s framing on this (wingnut head explode) and am more than wiling to play along as far as signing a petition goes.
Let’s worry about taxes after the war/occupation funding is eliminated…)
I am listening to his seminar on collapse of societies. We strongest survive so how can compassion help the weaker societies?
This describes the Bush years perfect. Jared points out that societies often collapse because they use up all their resources he uses the example of the petri dish and germs. I think it applies to unregulated free markets like Rand and Ron talk about.
Well instead of eating the weaker societies war we can focus on more sustainable ways to get the food, power and resources we need.
Organic growing vs Farming with chemical and the soil erosion that follows. Green Power vs Dirty power. Recycling vs mining.
We need to think ahead and act before economic necessity forces us to act/it makes economic sense.
Then we need to spread the knowledge and not charge for it.
China and India need Hybrid and electric car tech to fight pollution. They need our best organic farming ideas.
One answer is sustainable communities. Growing you own foods and planning consumption with resources. While Jared defines the causes of societal demise, many others have pressed for solutions. Organic growing, reducing carbon footprint and lowering personal demands and recycling have been around for decades. Lots of effort but falls short as consumption grows with population and economic growth.
Thanks, I needed that . . . ;-)
Compassion helps us pollution in China effects us and melts the polar ice caps. China is getting richer a famine in China well they could out bid us for our own food and the Free market types would let them.
The rich love bidding wars. But its better to prevent then from happening in the first place.
Gotta run, Pups, thanks ES for a great 2 Fer once again, and thanks for the Pups comments.
*poof*
niters Larue
Ahh but America thanks to the economy is not consuming like it used to. Plus we still consume more resources than other developed countries by a wide margin so I think we have room to cut back.
America does not recycle like the Japanese do. Also the more green power we have the less pollution which means lower healthcare bills and the fuel is free.
All in all I see room for improvement its both possible and necessary America has no reserves to fall back on after years of war.
We need to build our reserves.
Nite
Hey ES! You back home?
Discourage conspicuous consumption a tax on luxury goods like Diamonds. Double that tax on wasteful luxury goods like Hummers they waste gas.
An Asset tax would be a good idea for the top 5% just take 10% of all their most liquid (easy to turn into cash assets)
Hi Sunny, I am indeed. Left NOLA wed evening and drove into ES Thursday evening. Just in time for the last glorious two days of Spring.
By the way that was a great trip for you to embark on and ring back a perspective on the way the disaster is being handled. The unseen critters beneath the sand are the ones being wiped out. The bottom of the food chain. If they are eaten the toxins will poison or cause endocrine disruption and non viable off spring will result. The scientist that are working this disaster do not seem to understand the domino effect on the food chain. The dolpins and porpoises (mamals) are pathetically victims poisoned by the toxins in the waters that are cumulative. Cumulative effects in small quantities can kill or cause cancer.
Nite Folks:)
evening, firegods
g’evening, ES & Pups!
We need a t shirt design contest with that slogan Nite for real bye.
I’m glad I went. Sure was hard to leave when I was just getting to the point of really being able to dive in and help. But Dotty and I agreed we were really fortunate to be far far away from the air.. lots of sickness popping up down there. Wal Mart pharmacies were out of basic antibiotics! Of course those were to treat flu symptoms… The symptoms are the same, but it’s not the flu that the chemicals/dispersants are causing.
It’s a real mess.
Evening PPDCUS and ndfg..)
Are people getting sick on the coast only or are they sick in New Orleans?
i have been feeling sick and helpless about the whole mess. And wishing i could troll (in the fishing sense) some BP execs behind a boat to soak up oil. Sorry mods …
So i do what i usually do when faced with such far-away problems. I start digging up more of my yard for veggies for the family and native plants that birds, insects, and various critters find nourishing. Doing what i can to promote biodiversity.
Hiya, ES, pups.
Just home from our monthly Mat-Su Democrats’ dinner. We’ve moved it from Wasilla to Palmer. We checked for another restaurant in Wasilla that wasn’t as sleazy as the one where we had been meeting for years – it was truly bad. But all the rest were even worse. Now we’re meeting at a nice, new semi-organic restaurant in Palmer, with a decent wine list. Got a great rundown from officers who attended the state convention. Not much happiness about Obama at the convention, or at our monthly dinner.
It seems to be worst among those who go out on boats. Though I would be very concerned anywhere. Including hundreds of miles inland… I just noticed our prevailing winds are coming from that direction tonight and tomorrow. Very unusual.
A friend of mine said the same thing to me the other day. Really, all a body can do is stay informed and hope that soon people will figure this out. There are days that I think I should not get back on the computer every. Just stay outside by the river.
Was among the first things I did when I got home, plant more herbs and veggies. I’ve got to go solar too.
I am concerned about my brother, sister and parents. Particularly my parents. They have edged into mild senility and might not notice the effects.
Ron and I are moving and we were considering New Orleans. Don’t think so anymore.
Geez, ET. Glad you could get a decent place out of Wasilla. Depressing times, and I’m glad you have a good wine list.
So very glad you went. There is an unsettling coup de gras atmosphere around this.
Since Katrina I’ve had a St Louis Cem photo up as a screen saver…. intended to take it down when all was well. Alas.
Is DIane Benson going to run again?
Me too on the space around the duplex I rent. I also reuse water more than once then water those veggies after a little aeration to reduce the oxygen demand. When you feel love for Mother Earth she gives back too.
Got to go visit with my inner self for a while (meditate) Be happy as you are peace love and joy despite the kreyas (afflictions).
If the danger is such that people need to leave the area, the EPA needs to inform us. Thanks for the work you and Dotty have done.
She is running for Lt. Governor. Her opponent in the primary is a DINO, the mayor of Nome, who, though only a recent Democratic Party member, has the support of the old school Dem pols in Anchorage.
Dr Ott and the Captain are mentioned along with symptoms in this article.
Captain Gary went out to sea monday before last… he’s in real bad shape.
Oh damn. I am sorry.
Looking at the EPA oil spill report page… you would think it’s all just wonderful. Not.
I gots to go to bed. Niters.
Thanks for that resource.
Niters Mary
I’m out as well.
Good night firedogs
Night, folks.
Nite everyone…
Uh-oh… I just get back from my daughter’s graduation and everybody left already…! 8-(
Good morning, pups. It’s Mr. Blow and Mr. Herbert, since Ms. Collins is off today. Mr. Blow, in “City of Tears,” says Detroit is down, but Motown is not out. Mr. Herbert, in “More Than Just an Oil Spill,” says the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is threatening an ecosystem the same way that big corporations like BP threaten our political system.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup. There’s also two big jugs of iced tea in the fridge — one unsweetened for all you Northerners, and a jug of sweet tea for those of us down here. I cleaned out the window boxes yesterday evening, so today is the day they get their new liners and plants. I have a feeling I’m going to be taking advantage of that sweet tea! Have a great day.
Good morning, Marion. Your home always sounds so welcoming. I’ve got bread if you want to make toast. And there may be some jelly in the fridge. Oh, and some leftover pizza.
Did you see yet that James Carville and Chris Matthews ripped Obama over the oil spill. “Lackadaisacal and Naive”.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
Good morning all.
Despite much sleep last night, I’m still tired from planting the last trees in mid-80 degree sunshine, so I’ll hang back & kibbutz for awhile.
Marion, cleaning up planting my herb garden is on my agenda for today. It got postponed because trees took longer than planned.
Good morning, all. Haven’t been around much this week because a work assignment has scarfed up most of my blogging time. Today was supposed to be “plant the 6 flats of impatiens and other stuff” day, but we had a lot of rain yesterday and everything is still wet and there are standing puddles in places in the yard. Will have to see what the day brings.
Seems like Rand Paul and BP have sucked all of the oxygen out of the news.
Rand Paul has served as comic relief. The oil spill is making me sick.
The news about the spill gets worse with every passing day. Our coastline will never be the same. And there are other rigs drilling even deeper, run by the same people.
Elena Kagan has hardly been mentioned the past few days — at least in anything I’ve heard or read.
