Featuring new videos from Nigel Hall and Grace Potter and The Nocturnals.
What’s on your mind tonight?
Aloha, ES…!
Oh, I like Grace Potter!
Evening, CT…)
Wassup Daddyo, and howdy ES, also! *G*
And CE! Howdy!
Yeah, I like that one a LOT!!
Hi CE, me too. They posted a few good new vids over the last few weeks. I’m glad i waited on this one.
I got some pics of the gorgeous sunset up here on the mtn…! I’m gonna see how to up load ‘em…! ;-)
You still in Nawlins…?
We saw/heard Karan Casey tonight. She and her three band mates were wonderful.
Oh! And hiya all!
Ivan Oleander has a great report on our drive down to Venice, Louisiana on Monday up at seminal now.
Just got home a few hours ago. Do you have a flickr account? I like mine, but am always interested in other options.. especially if I could post more photos and larger file sizes..)
The song has me hooked early, the rhythm and such, but when they cut to the live work it just opens up and takes off!!! Really, really nice and fresh music!
Hi Chris!
Hey ES, I love love Nigel Hall.
Hey Margot — how is everything? I thought I’d die of cloud cover until today!
Yo pups!
I liked that half point cut to live as well.
Likes me that Nigel tune
Hi Margot. Isn’t he great! We are going to have to keep our ear on him for sure.
That’s a truly fine upright, don’t you think? Got a nice sound. Showed the vid to the mister and he said there’s one at church in an unused room. He’s thinking of grabbing it and “dumping” the old Storey and Clark one we currently have.
Same. Very nice.
Hello All here at LLN,
The clouds parted and the sun came out — it was finally almost 70 degrees and I didn’t give a good goddamn about politics, for a whole hour. What say you?
Yep – it does need a good tuning job though; often the case with those beasts.
The tuning block goes “soggy” so to get them to “speak” correctly you gotta unstring the damn thing, and put some shims in the hole where the tuning pin goes back in, then re-string and re-tune it.
But the bass on those tall boys is just so nice…
We’ve had warm Santa Ana’s here. Was 80 at 8 o’clock, but is cooling, finally.
It’s so nice to be home in time for what may be the last couple of cool nights of Spring. But we are getting heavy (possible flooding) rains tonight and tomorrow… so enjoy that sun while you can.
You never fail to amaze me. Chris says that re-stringing is labor intensive and the instrument better be worth it.
Maybe we’ll drop this spinet and grab a “tall boy”.
I want it to stay like this all summer. Perfect!
Citizen demi:
Please go see the comment I left ya at the bottom of the last thread…I gotta go ta bed, don’t have time for this shit.
Wow, the pics and his descrip of things . . . BP sure comes across as ham handed heavy on everything.
Oh, ES, I hope that flooding is not happening. Our rains here were weird, full of hail, driving rain, falling trees, icy temps and so very strange May weather. Buh, bye rain, please!
You know how you can tell? Tune the C below middle C. Wait for, or make a major temperature change.
If the C you tuned held it’s pitch through the temp change, the pin block is good, and no shim/re-string required.
Otherwise…
Laure, Kelly,
Hey, you guys .. so smart and fun.
Larue, sorry
They (Buckingham Palace) own the wildlife cleaning stations.. which as Ivan mentioned were abandoned except for the little security guard who ran us off. I really had to struggle to keep from laughing in his face… his uniform was about two sizes to big for him. I got one half-assed photo of him because I didn’t want to stick the camera in his face until I was finished trying get him to give us info.
Why on earth would anyone want to run folks off from a wildlife rescue/cleaning station unless it’s not really doing what it claims?
Well we really didn’t get our April showers this year.. so as long as nobody gets hurt.. I’ll take what we can get before summer sets in.
Oh, my. I’ve been chastised. ROFL.
Isn’t that insane?
But I guess it’s not. After Cynthia’s post, now I’m thinking the Feds and BP etc all don’t want any fact discovery that they can’t control.
ES, This group was just on Jimmy Fallon, and is sold out in my town tomorrow! Mumford & Sons
The oil people are a hard culture…I spent a week working on a rig in Wyoming throwing chain the guy in the engine house tried to thro!w us off rythm and injure us. No housing so slept in jail…then they did not want to pay me. Hardened crowd of hard drinkers.
Interesting post shows their attitude toward the environment. Mordor
Then there was Enron. (
(hope oilfield guy is not reading this)
ES – are you still down on the Gulf? Best dead fish pics yet, though there will be a lot of competition soon.
Hey ya, Eureka. I’m taking off. Really. But, I wanted to share a new to me artist with you.
Mutabaruka
Cool. we’ve covered them here a time or two…) I thin a new album is coming out soon.. hopefully that means good new vids for us.
Kelly – I hope you know that it wasn’t you who made me feel chastised.
zzzzzzzzzzz
I will watch Jimmy tonight, in your honor.
Hi ET, Met with Dr Ott ever so briefly on the trip Ivan covered. Gave her a warm hello from you.
Just got home (ES) a few hours ago.
Our host.. head of United Commercial Fisherman was a really great guy. If I would have had the time I would have followed with a camera for days. Anyway, he and the captain handed out cameras to a bunch of fisherman today and said go take a lot more pics. So stay tuned! Dotty and Ivan will cover it all.
Anyone tried posting at Huffington Post? I’ve posted there for 4 years and, just now, made my first negative post regarding Obama. Here’s what I wrote:
“I hope Obama works as hard and fast on this as he did on Wall Street regulation, closing Gitmo, ending the war in Iraq and reversing the Bush tax cuts!”
Here are the responses I’ve gotten so far (in a matter of 3 minutes):
“You mean with the republican obstruction?”
“I’ve vanquished 4 tro//s today. I’m sh00ting for 5. ;)”
“Hard to do any of that when the party of NO continues to say NO.”
And this from an actual HuffPo moderator:
“maybe one day, when you grow up, you’ll see how wrong you were…”
I’m really surprised by this. I usually have positive things to say about Obama (and, must admit, the negativity on this site drives me nuts as often as it has me nodding my head in agreement), but with one “misstep” I’ve discovered Huffington Post does not welcome anyone with even moderate criticism of the President.
‘BP owns me…?’
But why worry? Surf’s up.
;>)
Holy cow! What a video.
How did BP come to own those stations? Is it mandated they have them, in their lease/permit?
Sorry, I’m gobsmacked about this ownership . . . I guess they own everything.
And the respirators that fishermen can’t wear . . . how do they get away with that from OSHA, etc?
I’m not saying we wouldn’t get our hair mussed, ES.
;>)
I can’t tell what for . . . but then, nerves have been frayed for a month or so daytimes, amongst some long time regulars. Who’s more proggy than who and why . . . coupled with shit disturbers from Orange Satan, and a couple or more paid neocon shills . . . . but somehow, the Pups have let themselves get bent out of shape with one another.
Oh well. *G*
“As The Stomach Churns, These Are The Daze Of Our Lives.”
Well, own might not be the best word. Or it might be.
I read an article in the Sunday Times Picayune about it all before driving down there on monday with Ivan. The article said it was Buckingham Palace’s baby.
You think they should try to nuke it? Some folks say the Russians have done it successfully several times.
There are shit disturbers from daily kos? Really?
Yeah, it’s seemed like that to me for a LONG time, given the Govt response to it all early on (no punishment, no daily fines, letting the leak continue, enabling BP to SAVE the well, etc. Once that well is plugged, they can’t go back!).
And in all the apparent cover up’s/info suppressions from WH to Industry thru agencies galore since day one, I wonder if there’s a mountain of corruption beyond what even WE can think likely exists in all of this.
Failed oversight, special privilege granted to drillers, those who seek drill permits/leases. Going back a LONG time, money has changed hands, by the billions, I’d say . . . considering the profits at hand to be had.
And they claim their shit’s not orange.
Been Veal Pen starting day one. Most are, the big one’s anyhoots.
FDL really stands alone these days, post election.
I’m okey dokey. Thanks, though. :)
There are compelling arguments for conventional explosives also being made – But it’s not like a well blowout on dry land. A nuke might finalize things better, but BP will no doubt fight it until the plumes reach the Grand Banks – after that, well, you know…
;>)
I just don’t get it, the Brits have invaded again, and have co-opted our Coast Guard, too! ;-)
Damn, that Cheeto dust is pernicious.
;>)
Okay… Mauna Kea…!
Cutting off our food and oil supply. You think they are in cahoots with the Chinese?/s I hear a lot of wal mart shelves are poorly stocked these days.
*G*
I’m trying to check into their advertisers . . . ;-)
But their ratings are so low few watch them anymore . . . .
*G*
;-)
Your office?
Something like that… It was spectacular day for shots as there were no clouds on either Mauna Loa or Kea on the drive up…! That’s like once a decade event…! ;-)
There’s been a lot of discussion in a lot of places of what happens down deep as opposed to what happens on land.
And, they can’t get an atomic weapon, or any others, down the present bore hole, too small.
And, there’s doubt about the caving in up top occurring . . . to an extend enough that it will seal the hole.
Let’s imagine a bigger hole, in Tiber Field, regardless of the explosives used . . . where’s there some 3-6 Billion Barrells of oil and half that volume of gas. The stuff BP drilled down to 11K below ocean floor (although info says they exceeded their permitted depth to 30K) to get at, that blew up on them.
Oil and gas, at 30K, under that kind of psi. And BP fucks up and makes that hole bigger.
Ugh.
Worse than that ill fated brown acid, I believe.
Wow! Look at all that green in the foreground!! Beauty of a pic, eh!
Where’s our Stonewalled Jackson!!!
Saddle road is at the 5,000 ft level straddling both Mauna Loa and Kea, it is extremely arid clime altho it is usually very cloudy, with very little moisture falling…!
Daily Kos was my favorite for a long time, but then Markos went crazy and started talking about primaring (or however you spell it) Kucinich if he (Kucinich) didn’t vote against his convictions on health care. That’s when I went back to FireDogLake. But I really think some of the comments go so nuts here against Obama that they start sounding like teabaggers typed them.
Obama’s been disappointing, but he’s certainly a huge improvement over Bush. And arguably better than Bill Clinton was as President (but Clinton holds a special place as I feel he basically sold out the entire damn Democratic party). I think we’ve arrived at a place where real, solid Democrats cannot become President. It’s pretty depressing.
Interesting. Of course bp has their top people on it. Figuring out how to spin each action. The top hole pluggers? Not so much. The top people trying to catch the oil maybe but the real efforts are going to suggest all the tricks to get the oil first before plugging it.
We have both pro and anti Obama, that go virulent, at FDL/Seminal.
For the most part, they ain’t folks I’ve come to know since Hamsher/Wheeler blogged Libby Live.
MANY new folks since then, have become as regular as any one before.
And there’s been an influx of crazy. And the regulars have had falling outs.
All in all? FDL is THE leading, and only, real progressive minded blog with any large amounts of real progressive minded readers and posters. And that’s my opinion.
Mostly, when people talk shit, make an accusation and can’t provide for any factual basis to support their shit, they get ignored or told they got shit. It’s very democratic in that manner in these forums and I like it a lot!
*G*
I’d HARDLY call Obama a huge improvement over Bush, all you have to do is look at Hugh’s list for Bush, his list for Obama, and they are parallel and nearly identical on most issues.
I disagree with Obama being better than Clinton, too, although lots of Clinton’s positives were because of a strong employment trend, despite the obvious tech losses and more he helped offshore thru deregulation.
As to who gets elected anymore, it’s whom ever the system allows and enables.
We the people really have little to do with it anymore.
And aside from the voters, there ARE no solid democrats, havent’ been, for decades.
All our politics, all our politicians have been corrupted thru the corporate oligarchy.
That’s been detailed for a decade or more, hell, I was studying the rise of the oligarchy in College in ’88, so it was common knowledge back then.
And I’m a DFH who knew all about the rise of the oligarchy post WW2 . . . . ;-)
What…? All those Newfies will invade us…! ;-)
Oh, NO doubt about that, I’m with ya completely. So are most Pups/Progs.
This was NEVER about plugging the gusher.
The minute they have to plug that sucker, they can never go back and re-drill and extract from that spot.
So, all the wheels of corruption are in motion from industry to our government to enable future extraction, not plug the thing.
And there’s stirrings in courts I read today with lawsuits to prevent deep water drilling off our coastlines.
Course, there’s a couple of deepwater holes at 10K ft or 11K ft that are actually PRODUCING product at this time. I see them as ticking time bombs, the minute a larger than expected gas bubble comes up and sparks.
These beginning legal actions would shut those holes down. HUGE losses of profits for the industry. I don’t see THAT happening . . . but we’ll see . . . public patience is frayed on all issues. Things can change overnight, if the general public decides not to take any of it anymore.
I think the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s general publics have proven that. And while I understand these times are different, they are full of MORE info for the general public, and times are getting harder, MUCH harder jobs and life wise.
Ergo the the fraying is digging deeper into the fabric of the masses.
I gotta run, always a delight to chat with ya, and again thanks for all you do with YOUR might efforts!
Give ‘em hell, hoss. *G*
Better THEM than BP!!!
Nite CT, DB, and any other sandman challenged Pups . . . zzzzzzzzzz
Aloha, Larue…
This is f*cked up…
Holy crap! Well at least they have some work. That will come in real handy to cover their hospital bills so it’s a win win for both the hospital and BP. The humans? Not so much.
More Riki Ott…
Okay that’s just evil.
