Good morning twolf. News doesn’t get any better, does it.
I was just listening to a Brookings panel on China’s economics on cspan2. Lots of couldas, shouldas, none of which is likely to happen, though no recognition of that by the speakers. I did learn one thing, though, which is that the Chinese corps, private or not, have a great deal of control over the economy (sound familiar). The speaker drew only one conclusion, which is that’s what prevents consumer spending spending from becoming a bigger part of the economy (40% in China vs. 70% in U.S.). What speaker didn’t point out is that accounts for a lot of China’s gaping income distribution disparity.
Thanks for the news and photos, TW. I like the kitty picture too.
Gosh, I wonder what it feels like to be the sole survivor of a crash like that.
Kitty picture? Where is it hiding? I need some cheer this morning!
Concord, MA has banned the sale of bottled water: democracynow.
Next to the thread title.
How are ya, Molly?
Why?
Plastic garbage devastating. Huge swirls of it in the ocean, along the roadside, etc.
Nope, no news but bad news.
Here’s something for you.
All I see next to the thread title is a photo of the big cap they’re planning to put over the oil spout.
I am fine, thanks. Recovered from back surgery 2 weeks ago, and staples come out this morning. Never took a single pain pill.
Did you read “House Rules” yet? My son’s fiancee, mother of a boy on the autism spectrum, thought it was excellent. I was anxious to hear her opinion, since she’s an expert on autism.
Remember the old ad, something along the lines of “modern living through chemistry”? The Pacific has an “island” of plastic debris the size of Texas.
Gotcha. I got myself something similar to this to take with me when I go out.
Not to mention the iconic line from The Graduate. The future is plastics.
I haven’t gotten around to getting that yet. Call me a bad mom, but I kind of already know what I need to. Fortunately, my son is on the high end of highly functionality and he’s doing better all the time.

Here’s a little something from Pete Seeger.

I wonder if they told them that before or after they granted them all of those waivers? “Here are your waivers Johnny. Now you be careful while you’re playing in the Freeway….”
Little black and white to the left of “Morning”.
My kids watched Sesame Street from its very first show. Very cheery clip! And you might like this one, too.

I refill my plastic water bottles with filtered tap water (have sulfur in my well water), until the bottle gets too groaty to use. Means I buy about a dozen bottles/year, which I figure is pretty conservative.
OH Duh! Wasn’t looking THERE. *rolls eyes*
Mornin’, twolf, pups
Watching the hearing yesterday I had to wonder if most capitalist pooh bahs suffer from male pattern baldness.
Thanks. Cute kitteh. A tuxedo? I love kittehs, but my two youngest granddaughters are allergic and asthmatic, so I hang out at Caturday for vicarious kitteh luv instead. ;-)
That’s nice.
Southern Dragon shared this Pete Seeger song recently.
Male pattern stupidity, too.
You do know that that was written for the IWW, doncha? *g*
Speaking of balding pooh bahs, did y’all see this from Krugman?
A Goldman Observation
Sorry, linky wasn’t working…is now, I think.
Male pattern greed certainly.
Little lion cub that shares a home with a puppy.
Oh, my, God. That is the cutest face in the world. If that doesn’t have everyone here smiling, someone’s dead.
G’Morning, dear. Still feeling loved?
Good morning all. Thanks for the linkfest, twolf.
It occured to me yesterday while following theh finger point over the oil volcano that there was not 1 problem solver on either side of the Q & A. No wonder nothing is going well for those folks.
Here’s another. He is a cutie, isn’t he.
Loved by my cat at the moment but that just be the liver I gave her for breakfast. :-)
What? No Simpsons tonight? We’re friggin’ doomed.
Jeff Sessions showed ample reason for him to retire.
Mornin’.
A big bunch of Who Could Have Anticipated ‘ers.
Mornin’ I only caught bits and pieces of the hearing. Seemed to me to be pretty meaningless. The oil is still leaking and the disaster is no longer a headline at the major news outlets.
A Ferengi. How appropriate.
Yup, a tuxedo kitteh. One of two brothers we adopted from a bush across the street.
Yeah, I went away kickin’ myself for wastin’ my time. Watched all but the time it took me to walk home for lunch.
Sure am glad I don’t have a kitteh-giving bush anywhere around.
Yep. Far more meaningful I’m sure were the open checkbook events before and after the “hearings”.
I adore da big dose. (I haz to talk funny wit da kittehs.)
Absolutely.
Oh boy he makes me want to hug him. Unfortunately he’ll grow up to be not so huggable.
You are a Cat Magnet.
It is possible to mortally wound Mother Earth.
She’s been stabbed by the most greedy among us.
This is a national problem for the Government to solve instead of the rich greedy oil bastards trying to preserve their profit stream before just stopping the flow.
The oil could have an internal purpose ,such as insulation or lubricating the plate movement, rather than being here to fuel the FUVs and heating the Mc Mansions.
Ohhhh, I dunno.
My sister & BIL just lost their tuxedo kitty to liver cancer after a long surgery and feeding through a stomach tube for 3 weeks. They finally had him put down after going through all of that. Very sad. He was a rescue cat, and they still have two plus a little dog also rescued from the side of the road.
A very dim bulb indeed.
Heh. It was a very prolific kitteh bush. Homes found for all though.
Not sure my homeowners association would go for that, not to mention my allergic grandchildren or their chocolate lab. Heh.
poor kitteh
Good morning miss demi.
Ya think?
For you, scooter: dim bulb.
If we could figure out how to put the oil spill(ing) in to the plates that have been causing all the recent earthquakes, we could win a Nobel Prize.
Thank. Good chuckle from that one.
Sure wish Crist would either veto or sign the onerous ultrasound bill passed by the FL Reichstag in its last week. I’d like to see Crist make an even wider gap between himself and the Rethugs with a veto.
Another Dim Bulb. (hint, it’s another blond.)
When they learned — after the surgery and the feeding tube and a sudden turn for the worse — that he had cancer and would have to endure chemo and probably live only a few months anyway, they had him put down. They were really torn up about it. He was a beautiful cat, and my favorite of their brood.
That would presume some sort of sentient creature with a “plan”. But lubricating plate movement is obviously unnecessary because the plates have been drifting around for billions of years while the material that would eventually become oil was laid down around 600 million years ago or so.
Man, talk about hypocrites.
Looks like the Rethug national convention is gonna be in Tampa. Far out. Don’t have to pay for a plane ticket to get arrested.
“You know, for these conservative pundits, this may be their ‘choke on a pretzel‘ moment.”
Good Morning twolf and firedogs -
demi and ms molly – we caught this fascinating (and inspiring) documentary last night:
http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/horse-boy/
folks in and out of the autism community rave about the book as well. boy what a great story – touches on so much
oldnslow – the academy they set up upon their return from Mongolia is in Elgin (!)
I’ve had 2 on feeding tubes. Vet tech once told me she had never seen a cat with a feeding tube survive. Yang survived but succumbed to Cushing’s Disease a few months later. Gigi’s tube was removed when an xray showed cancer. She left us that afternoon.
Cool!
Had no idea! Sure did enjoy the documentery though.
Everyone has a story, and schools should teach them. How do we know who we are without knowing our history.

Interesting new feature on google finance this was found on the front page of Hal’s google finance chart.
my initial response was, oh, another formulaic, but feel good autism story – uh, so much more -
Speaking of schools, my sister got her official and final lay off notice yesterday. She had taken an early retirement buy out from NBC, went back and got credentialed and has been teaching 4th grade for 5 years. She’d be more bummed than she is, but she’s so po’d at the whole district and system right now.
It’s sad. Pets are family.
Thanks for this — it is very interesting. I am going to pass it along to my (future) daughter in law. Her son seems, the rather limited number of times I’ve been around him, to be a very normal 7 year old, but Dana has told me of the intense therapy required to get him to this point. He’s an adorable child, right now struggling with the upcoming wedding, because “kissing is icky” and he doesn’t want to see my son and his mom kiss (of course, they live together and kiss all the time, but apparently he averts his eyes).
In AZ, the only story acceptable is a white one.

New post up top…
No steps forward. Three steps back. Discouraging, ain’t it?
Whats the next step tell women no women studies courses? They might find out about the glass ceiling and being paid less than men.
Does AZ really want this a lawsuit seems likely and if we have to win by proving we are oppressed well AZ is really helping us with that one.

That’s a funny one. Love the onion. And love this thread. Thanks for giving us a chance to smile a few times before the day begins.
Love the “Cats against clay.org” ad.
as I was sharing with demi, it was so much more than I thought it was going to be – one of the most fascinating moments was that of an anthropologist saying shamans, (no matter where they are found in the world) all seem to share non-neuro-typical childhoods – wow. can’t wait to delve in to that :D
