The recent passage of Arizona’s Immigration law was triggered by a drug-related shooting. The war on drugs is the other side of the immigration coin, as Markos says:
There are two broken policies here — the immigration system, which desperately needs reform, and the drug war, which is costing people their lives and essentially turning Mexico into a narco state in order to irrationally keep people from smoking freakin’ weed.
The immigration problem is not going to be solved until the war on drugs stops. Thanks to everyone who entered the contest and displayed their amazing creativity to help bring it to an end. Please help us choose the final first, second and third place winners for our contest:

About Firedoglake
I like just say now and end prohibition again.
I can’t say mine. But they’re all good.
Prohibition; Stupid Then, Stupid Now
#1 for me is – Prohibition; Stupid Then, Stupid Now
But we’ll see what wins – can’t wait!
LOL!
*clink*
that is a good one. They are all clearly the cream of the crop.
There are some very good choices but I’m not saying which ones I chose.
Hi Jane! This is an important campaign that will be run over time in several states, so I’m lobbying for Campaign for Sensible Cannabis Reform. Grass is Greener says it well, too.
I can’t wait to see the graphic designs.
Stay discrete and mysterious. I like it.
You had several of the best slogans as I recall, Margaret. Both prolific and talented.
My fav was mine, but it never made the first cut, alas.
Legalize It, Don’t Fight It
GREAT choices selected, though.
Indeedy. Peg is one of my favoritest people, EVAH!
I can’t remember any of mine, but like the ones I voted for.
The Creed Bratton “Northern Lights” Cannabis Indica Initiative
(sorry, I just watched 3 hours of The Office)
You guys are going to make me blush. Thanks for the encouragement though. Now if I can just find an employer who feels the same way…
I hear you, but I dismissed chronic chronic as his deal. That dude is growing his own peyote.
drunks suck!
Flat had a bunch of really good ones too, as did many people here at the lake. Way talented bunch. So glad I’ve found a blog home. :-)
Good choices.
He’s been involved in many cults, both as a follower and as a leader. You have more fun as a follower but make more money as a leader.
It’s time for me to toddle off to bed. I’m in a push to lose my last twenty pounds of extra weight, (now 17 lbs), and that means disciplined rest as well as diet and exercise. Oyasumi Nasai kaji koinu!
That was a very good one indeed.
I like Campaign for Sensible Marijuana Reform. What it lacks in cleverness it makes up for in clarity.
Nighters Margaret.
Of course you won’t take my advice but fitness should be your goal. Target weights tend to be fleeting. I should know, I’ve probably gained and lost a 1000 lbs in my lifetime.
Thank you very much for not permitting my submission, “Potoholics Don’t Puke,” into the final list. Even I didn’t vote for it ;-).
Me neither — ‘ere….
I like Campaign for Sensible Cannabis Reform.
Where’s my Brownie Husband?
Jeez, rat, you should NEVER have allowed yourself to get to 1000 pounds in the first place!!
Munchies?
Might be exceptions. Always irritated me that if some idiot causes an accident and is found to have a blood alcohol level five times the legal limit the news will also report if he was seen taking a hit off a joint earlier that evening.
*blinks*
Why??????????
Perhaps overstating the obvious, it wasn’t all in one trip up and down the scale.
Regarding munchies, when I smoked pot every day I didn’t have them. If I’d gone without for awhile and then smoked I was more susceptible.
And grows mung beans in his desk drawer…

I have a friend in high school who got pulled over for DUI, but was charged with having seeds in the back seat carpet.
;-)
Thanks.
I was just whinin a bit . . . . I try not to do it often, it’s SO unbecoming.
lol
I like this too, as does Teddy (26).
My thoughts were, this is a serious issue and campaign, we got strikes against us already, no need for something TOO quippy and hip. I liked that one, too.
From the episode “Drug Testing.” Dwight shows Creed a picture of pot, Creed correctly identifies the exact strain causing Dwight to exclaim, “No stupid, it’s MARIJUANA!”
And was subsequently charged with cultivation…
Also got my first vote.
Doobs for Industry
I really like “Grass Is Greener”.
People! We are serious!
I have nightmares about the workplaces of my past, I don’t need them reactivated by their reality on tv.
;-)
that was my first choice too.
But fitness IS my goal. I am reaching for a body mass index, in this case, one of 23 and that means about twenty pounds.
I didn’t start watching the series until this season. I kind of like it that way, let a TV show run for several seasons and then I have the pleasure of getting caught up.
BMIs can be a tad misleading. People in my family tend to be short and muscular. Our height to weight ratio would never match the recommended BMI without prolonged starvation.
Hanging with the wrong crowd, I see. And still you haven’t learned, look where you are right now!
If they had looked in my back seat carpet, they would have found sprouts. I had a water leak in the back window.
So, maybe it was they who were hanging with the wrong…
Good choices all! I like Just Say Now best.
Mobile hydroponics.
See? Never do that ;).
I was always the head of the class.
But we are not Very Serious People.
Never would have but since I’ve grown accustomed to life without it is simpler. Anyway, my home is paid for and I can survive on my meager fixed income provided I don’t screw up badly, so I’m on the wagon until/unless it becomes legal.
I am overwhelmed with this program on Ovation: The Wonderful World of Albert Kahn. Can you see it? Europe after the fire.
I recall a co-tenant of mine weaving white plastic flowers into our backyard plant about, oh, a number of years ago. “Just to confuse any nosy neighbors or delivery/utility men,” he said. I pointed over the fence to the six plants in our neighbors yard, each twice the height of our little, but growing, bush.
“They problem is here, not with our plant,” I said.
We left the flowers on it, though — they looked pretty.
I spent so little time in class I still don’t comprehend how I managed to graduate. S’pose the fact that it was the 1970s helped.
I’m big on clarity too. Too bad yours wasn’t one of the choices!
If my teachers hadn’t wanted me gone so badly in ’76, I would have done 5.
My high school had this insane policy at the time, there was a tardy sheet just inside the door, if the teacher marked you absent the office would check the tardy sheet and say, “Oh, he just arrived a couple minutes late.” I’d actually arrive a couple minutes early, sign the tardy sheet and then cut class to smoke one of the eleven joints (because apparently ten wouldn’t have been enough) I’d rolled the previous night.
I may be turning into my father because I find at this point I have zero comprehension of my younger self.
Calling it a night, splendid evening to all.
OK, that is good!
nite rat
*grin*
Night night!
If ya like spy stuff, check out PBS and MI-5!
*G*
8th Season, Now.
A felony across state lines, I’d bet, too . . . ;-)
Suspected drug related shooting. Even a Texas Prosecutor would have a hard time making a case without a suspect or evidence but little details like that are no hinderance to taking away our rights.

G’nite, rat!
Suzanne is upstairs!
Late Late Night FDL: Ball and Chain
It wasn’t mine, it was just the one I voted for — it was one of the choices.
Rah, rah! Another way to impose regressive taxation.
And reduce the power of the police state, change our prison culture, reduce the cost of law enforcement, cripple the drug mafia, end the war on drugs, end the war on the war on drugs.
And get high.
I like that.
Good luck. I’m not opposed to the effort (or the use of herbs), just think there are more important things for a blogwide focus.
Creed: Four nights a week, I sleep under my desk, and then three nights I stay at my place in Toronto. They don’t know about this job up there. It’s a welfare state. Beautiful countries, both of ‘em.
I think “Vote Green” is awesome.
And the Marijuana never stole your 401k too.
They’re all fabulous though.
Legalizing marijuana is like the keystone action to cure all those ills – definitely worthy of making this our blog-wide effort!
Given the activist and aggressive nature of FDL, I think “Just Say Now!,” would be quite fitting. It could be especially good for whatever kind of graphic is produced for bumper stickers, buttons, Web ads, etc. You might even take liberties with the slogan and combine it with something like, “Legal Marijuana.”
Just my two cents…
