Memorial Day Memory Hole: After Israel Forgets “Exodus”, White House Forgets “Shores of Tripoli”. Will Obama Remember NATO?

By: Kirk James Murphy, M.D. Monday May 31, 2010 7:15 pm

Last night, Israel’s leaders and commandos forgot the past Leon Uris drew upon for his fictionalized celebration of their nation’s creation. The IDF’s witless, merciless repetition of their nation’s pre-history ensured predictably tragic consequences for the humanitarian flotilla attempting to penetrate Israel’s deadly Gaza blockade. As of this writing, the IDF are reported to have killed up to twenty and wounded scores more civilians aboard the unarmed flotilla. In this lethal campaign of attacks on unarmed vessels in international waters, Israel’s leaders and armed forces aped the the British Navy’s successful prevention of the Exodus’ attempt to break the British blockade of Palestine in 1947.

Remembering Soldiers with Invisible Wounds

By: Rayne Monday May 31, 2010 6:30 pm

On this Memorial Day, I hope and wish that all our soldiers now at home and those who’ll come home soon can expect the same. Remember them, and remember that they need you now and for a very long time to come.

FDL Movie Night: The Nature of Existence

By: Lisa Derrick Monday May 31, 2010 5:00 pm

Why are we here on earth? What the meaning of existence? What is man’s purpose? What started the Universe? Where was God during the Holocaust? What is Truth? Should people have sex before marriage? World Watches Raid on Relief Flotilla as Israel’s PR Machine Flails

By: Siun Monday May 31, 2010 4:14 pm

Israel is quite happy to spread around the latest IDF videos which claim to show the events on the ships as Israeli commandos attacked. Left out of those video accounts is the essential, core fact that the ships were in international waters at the time – and had in fact specifically decided to alter their course to avoid just such a confrontation during the night.

Don’t Mess with Daniel Inouye: Case Drops Out in HI-01

By: David Dayen Monday May 31, 2010 3:22 pm

Democratic moderate Congressional candidate Ed Case showed he couldn’t act against the interests of Hawaii Democrats. His positions against working families in Hawaii made him unelectable to his base, and Sen. Daniel Inouye made sure Case wouldn’t get away with it by withholding his support. The DCCC’s surrender of this special election turned out to be the best option for all involved.

For money and business opportunities. What better way to grow than to eat a competitor?

By: Michael Whitney Monday May 31, 2010 11:55 am

At least nine fishermen hired by BP to use their boats to help with oil cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico have been hospitalized with serious heath problems, including one who “busted his skull” after collapsing on a dock.

When asked about this clear pattern of illnesses of workers who come in contact BP’s oil and chemical dispersants, BP CEO Tony Hayward callously dismissed the health problems as “food poisoning.”
