How can senior members of a church that emphasizes confession and penance be so insistent on blaming others for its sins? And how could senior members of a church so obsessed with controlling the consensual sex of others have been so cavalier about the non-consensual sex of their own?

Tomorrow at 2:30 pm, the Senate Commerce Committee will meet to discuss the administration’s National Broadband Plan. However, given the court ruling last week that the FCC can’t regulate the Internet under its current classification, the focus will be on net neutrality.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner uses the Washington Post’s op-ed page to tell us “How to prevent America’s next financial crisis.” His solution is to support the Senate bill, which mostly trusts those who failed last time to get it right next time.
What Happened to the Employee Free Choice Act? |
| By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday April 13, 2010 3:46 pm |
The fate of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) over the course of the past year and a half has been largely determined by the White House. Rahm Emanuel would not let it come up for a vote until after health care was passed, and by that time the Democrats no longer had 60 votes in the Senate. But its evolution is also intimately tied to the electoral prospects of Harry Reid and Arlen Specter, and unless you understand one, you can’t understand the other.

With Health Care, the Time Is Still Now: Democrats Should Seize Opportunity, Push For Better, Sooner State Waiver |
| By: Jon Walker Tuesday April 13, 2010 11:55 am |
The newly passed health care law is not popular, and Republicans are starting to line up behind a political strategy of calling for its repeal. While true repeal seems like a legislative impossibility, the political strategy might work. When forced to choose between the false duality of this new health care law or no law, a large portion of the American people line up behind repeal. The relatively good news for Democrats is that most Americans don’t like the bill, but would prefer to see it significantly changed instead of repealed. This creates the perfect political environment to push for a better and quicker optional state waiver.

Feeling the Heat From Afghanistan (Part 2): Lame Duck Incumbents |
| By: Josh Mull Tuesday April 13, 2010 9:42 am |
In this political climate, it’s not safe to support the war. Whether it’s a mainstay facing a primary challenge like Harman or a lame duck on the way out the door like Delahunt, if they can’t join the mainstream and move to end the war, their reputation is toast. This is the choice politicians are facing in 2010. Either they’re with the mainstream American opinion, or they’re supporting the killing of civilians and the incipient cover-up and escalation of violence.
