Koch Industries, a major backer of myriad right-wing causes, issued an unsolicited statement last night in advance of Tax Day claiming it has never provided funding “specifically to support the tea parties.” But when TPMmuckraker followed up, a spokeswoman acknowledged that Koch funds one of the most prominent national groups that organizes … tea parties.
Totally grassroots!

Seems like FDL is all tea party all the time. I, for one, have had enough.
Mornin’, BT, pups
Charlie Crist vetoed the onerous SB 6 yesterday, much to the chagrin of the FL Chamber of Commerce and what Jeb supporters are left in Tallahassee. The students and teachers in FL are grateful and may make an independent run for Senate for Crist a reality.
I’ll go along with anything that shows how these groups are funded.
He sure can’t run as a R anymore.
In another ‘who coulda anticipated,’ Wellpoint is merrily reclassifying administrative expenses as medical benefits: democracynow and here.
Koch just does not want to admit they spent their money buying sinking ship. Solai if your around one of your comments made my soon to be released Diary.
My boss, a friend of Jeb, is ticked cuz Charlie won’t return his calls. I asked him what the big deal was. I won’t pick up the phone at home when he (boss) calls me so he oughta be used to it.
Anyone has National Tea bagger crowd estimates I can’t find any.
In another shocking (not) development, UN finds that Pakistan neither tried to prevent nor investigated properly Bhutto’s assassination.
Krugman has a decent piece about Granny McConnell pimpin’ for the banksters.
I’m shocked. Shocked, I say.
I will say that Bhutto’s handlers should never have let her stand up in the goddamn car.
Didn’t know you were on par with Crist. Remind me to show you proper respect in the future. *g*
It’s just not FDL. NPR, CBS, NBC, et al can’t get enough of the baggers. Big rally in MI yesterday and public radio was most accommodating.
LOL
Known boss for over 25 years. We go at it all the time. He calls me with shit from Drudge and I just erase the message.
hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands.
Even more shocking news: UBS had (has?) a group in its DC office that helps PEPs (politically exposed people) hide money in Switzerland: democracynow and here.
Everybody wants to have the video or soundbite from when one of these clowns really goes off the deep end.
negroponte?
eCHAN the Tea Bagger failure tells us that the group both we and the GOP thought was their most energized voters isn’t that energized. Elections are about turnout if the GOP can’t get their base out on tax day then I admit I was wrong to worry about these guys.
It also tells us that Fox News can’t motivate their viewers despite a 24/7 all Tea Bagger campaign for months, a year?
And it tells us that 18% Tea Bagger support poll is Funkier than my socks and I have had smokers smoking and drinking all night ask me to put my shoes back on.
This changes everything about the election and begs the question just how bad a campaigner did Rahm pick to lose Ted’s seat?
Every Pollster should be changing their estimates of Dem losses in November.
It looks like the election will be a race to the bottom just whose side has the least energized voters.
The GOP’s election strategy of being the Party of No seems to have failed.
Not one item in the local rag that I can find. It’s all about Crist. Connie Mack quit as Crist’s campaign manager after the veto. This is gonna get really interesting now.
Link?
WMNF had a story about this the other day. They’ve found some documents that say UBS America was indeed involved in the illegalities going on in Switzerland.
I missed the name of the person who did the investigation, but I think he is Peruvian, or from some other S.A. country. Didn’t go into who actually did the assassination if I understood the headline properly.
snark it was methinks
Indeed
I want the names.
Despite their lack of any significant numbers they continue to be a threat. Dehumanizing and demonizing opponents and questioning their “patriotism” makes the emotional climate for murder and genocide possible.
Sorry Bluetoe2 need caffine:) Plus I was worried about rewriting my next diary.
Agreed I fear the Militias will be hanging around the voting booths come election day intimidating voters. Voting Districts get redrawn soon the GOP has to win statewide offices so they can marginalize expected minority growth in population.
The way the Ds & Rs are going, there won’t be many voters to intimidate.
WMNF saying there was one gathering, “large crowd,” in one of the parks in Tampa yesterday. One guy interviewed. When asked about govt re health care, defense, social spending, his beef was health care spending. Health care bill will be the cause of massive taxation on everybody’s kids. Not a peep about defense spending. *sigh*
Agreed both sides are not energized
Why is Koch funding the Baggers
The GOP engages the mob in the very way they fear we might everytime they scream class warfare. The thing is we don’t need lies to motivate we just need Dems with Stones and some MSM equal time.
Riiiight.
He’s funded all sorts of ultra reichwing shit over the years. His is one of the 5 or 6 families who’ve been trying for 30+ years to do away with the estate tax. The money they’ve spent on that effort would support all our unemployed for a couple years. IIRC some of his money also funded the Swiftboaters.
Unfortunately, the energized people are heavily Republican:
“Polls of the most highly energized voters are even worse for Democrats. Recent NBC/WSJ polling found that Democrats led by three points among registered voters. But among those most interested in the November elections, Republicans led by 13 points.”

A real class act I’m glad the baggers have failed him.
Yep – Red Meat
We can only hope to elect more D’s as they’re doing so a great job in leading our nation.
Amy’s guest in the last segment was immigrants’ rights person. They finished the segment contrasting the news coverage of the tiny TBers, vs. the complete absence of coverage last May 1 of the 200,000-500,000 who showed up in DC for immigrants’ rights.
Is Rachel saying that a political organization is taking money from a corporation???
Wow, that’s quite an expo-zay!
It’s a good thing left-wing groups never do that.
How does covering 1/2 million people protesting for reform serve the interests of the corporate media. Tiny TBers are there for the corporations and they show their appreciation by their coverage.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Irak: 4,390
US KIA Afghanistan:, 1,044
Iraki and Afghan casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2010: 13,020 and counting
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
Does anybody recall how Amy’s employer covered that event? or is she simply looking at how others covered it.
Amy is her own employer & dn covered it.
DN! isn’t part of Pacifica anymore. Her syndication is the primary source of funding now I believe. Amy’s an enterprise unto herself.
Damn. Go to make tea an’ ya bet me to it. Owe ya one.
thanks for the clarification SD !
I’ve got twinkle fingers this morning.
New post up top…
SD and/or eCahn, have you been following her coverage out of Indonesia?
Looks like the same policy against ‘terrorists’ as in Pakistan
I don’t miss DN! eCAHN catches it live but I wait until it’s on my radio at noon or watch it online. Amy and Indonesia are joined at the hip for all time. The Indonesian army tried to kill her and another reporter she was working with. She did a segment on it last year I believe.
She had some coverage last month, showing the continuation of the US policies from the 60′s on forward to now.
Same shit, different labels.
400,000 ‘commies’ killed from the 60′s to the Tigers, now the Indonesian (US funded) teams are targeting our current enemies.
We just gave them a ton of military aid to
oppress the peoplefight the terrists. There was discussion on one of the shows regarding our President’s personal knowledge of the situation there, that he had to know of the Assassination Squads. Allan was questioning what the heck is going on, Obama and Michael Posner are preparing to circumvent the congressional restrictions on the aid to the killing squads.
This practice just never seems to go away, doesn’t matter who’s in the W.H.
Rachel Maddow does it again. She is constantly exposing and kicking the right wing in the teeth. Maddow does not have to resort to Glen Beck type hysteria nor the lunatic babble of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, she presents the facts, she is making like a journalist. She needs to hold a journalism class for cable news reporters; they desperately need to follow her example.
As far as wealthy right wingers supporting the Teabagger movement, it is nothing new. Many prominent businesses, fearful of the left, bankrolled the Nazi Party in Germany. The same thing happened in Chile, leading to the overthrow of a democratically elected government and the murder of President Allende. Fascist movements have always had an appeal to the wealthy right, as the KKK had a vast amount of support from Southern businessmen. The wealthy right provide the money, stay behind the scenes, and let poor whites and struggling middle class do the dirty work.
and it’s appeal may be spreading out just a bit, maybe?
“Many prominent businesses, fearful of the left, bankrolled the Nazi Party in Germany.” Very true. Pappy Bush’s Dad and JFK’s Dad were among Hitler’s fans and financial backers in the 30′s. American banks helped re-arm Germany during the Depression here. They couldn’t be bothered helping the American economy with Roosevelt in office. Sound familiar?
Many times the image people have of Hitler is of a Tyrant from the get go. But that wasn’t reality then, he came in as the Unifier, the savior of the German country that was going down the tubes.
Then, after solidifying his base, and expanding his executive power, justifying using new powers in order to save the country, became the Tyrant and Fascist.
Henry Ford was another stident Nazi supporter — and did not stop (at least publically) until the U.S. entered the war.
He was also a life-long anti-Semite.
That’s the Peas and Pod thing again
Na, he was nasty piece of work from the start. He got into office with less then 35% of the vote and then proceeded to kill off or imprison any and all opposition from the get go.
I don’t believe he came into office saying “I’m a Fascist and I’ll be using Tyrannical powers, murder, assassinations, kidnapping and genocide (just to mention a few)”
He used the chaos of the moment coupled with Nationalism, Vilification of the Opposition and Disinformation.
(maybe we’re agreeing)
As will I. The stories about the manners, bigotry, etc., of the Tea Partiers are a bit repetitious, but who is pulling the strings is interesting.
Imagine, major polluters don’t want people to have access to health care, esp people too sick to work. They also don’t want anyone getting tests and medical evaluations that are not done by For-profit health care companies that they are not controlling at some level. Hmmm I wonder why.?
