At the Southern Strategy Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, the Frothy Mixture offered up a favorite wingnut talking point.
“We let America down. I say that conservatism didn’t fail America. Conservatives failed conservatism,” he said.
See, here’s where I’m confused. Just how did Bush Republicans fail conservatism?
Gigantic tax cuts for the rich, check. Gutting regulations, check. Huge increases in defense spending? Check. Bombing/invading countries? Check. Right-wing ideologues appointed to the Supreme Court? Double check. Declaring war on science? Check. Erosion of the middle class? Check. Giving Big Oil and Wall Street everything they want? Check. Rewarding polluters? Check. Weakening gun laws? Check. Demonizing teh gays and brown people? Check and check. Etc., etc., etc.
Sure, the size of government grew under Bush/Cheney. As it did under St. Reagan of California, Poppy, Ford, Nixon and Ike. Are they all conservative failures too?
Unless “conservatism” is now a one-issue ideology, it’s undoubtedly the case that conservatives like Bush and Cheney served conservatism very loyally.
Meaning, they royally screwed the country.

Ahhh…former Senator Man-Dog Marriage Sphinctorum of the Unconstitutional-Right-to-Privacy-Lifestyle never disappoints.
I dunno but seems to me that if Conservatives have failed Conservatism, then pretty much by definition, Conservatism has failed.
Neoconservative Corporatism was a failure then.
Neoliberal Corporatism is a failure now.
Next.
Moreover, Bush and Cheney set up such a conservative climate inside of Washington, that anyone to the left of Attila the Hun gets denounced as a leftist ideolog, and a program of assassination of American on presidential whim seems centrist and barely worthy of mention.
Shorter Man-on-Dog: I didn’t leave reality; reality left me.
And if Liberals fail Liberalism now because of the nonsensical belief that we can trust Obama to act in the best interests of the American people (rather than force him to act in the best interests of the American people), then pretty much by definition, Liberalism will have failed in the Obama era.
The Military Times did this poll:
It all sounds so nice! Ha ha! Unfortunately, I think the Republican Party will come roaring back, just as it did 6 years after Nixon resigned.
Keep sloganeering, Santorum. The right will continue to decline as long as you folks refuse to see why it fails.
I simply could not get through the day without advice from Santorum. s/
Conservatism can never fail, it can only be failed. Bring on the next puppet, to dance upon the stage that is conservatism.
Remember how much ongoing effort was needed to rehabilitate St Ronnie, who barely avoided impeachment with his “befuddled” excuses? Conservatives have decided to supercharge that effort, while discarding the failure that was Bush. You see, if Bush had only listened to Cheney….
Did so. nee ner nee ner.
Adherents never see failures in religous dogma.
very good!
Liberals can’t force Obama to do anything. At most, we can stay home in droves and let the Republicans take the field, just like 1994. We have no credible threat left.
waving to Mary~~~~
raining there yet? We are getting a decent downpour..
A return of the Republics can only be good for Republics and those dying to complain about them.
Just started raining about twenty minutes ago. The wind is big.
No good would come of that… Just try and vote for the best progressive ya can… but if ya stay home you just give in to the corporatist of both parties..
Never Give Up no mater What!! The values mostly expressed around here would make our country a better place to live for all Citizens not just the Rich.. Keep up the FIGHT!!
Blowing pretty good for a while but has slowed down for now.. but rain is getting heavier…
They didn’t get rid of all that spending on old, poor and brown people, because too many conservatives were hung up on that whole “if we piss off the voters we’ll lose our seats” bullshit. None of them had the balls to call in the troops and cancel the election if they needed to. THAT’s where they failed.
LA only has clouds. So far. We’re expecting the wet stuff later today or tomorrow.
Imagine the reaction if they had tried to cancel the election.
It’s a standing giggle to watch Rickie “man-on-dog” Sanatorium spew his fantasies all over the floors of conservatives living quarters and then watch as they try to cover them up… This man is living, breathing proof that anyone with an IQ over 15 in the conservative ranks can get a platform on Cluster-Fox…

REPUBLICAN PARTY PLATFORM 1956 – DISTORTION BEYOND RECOGNITION
http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=25838
“The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves in their separate and individual capacities.” — Abraham Lincoln
“In all those things which deal with people, be liberal, be human. In all those things which deal with people’s money, or their economy, or their form of government, be conservative.”
“[T]he purpose of the Republican Party is to establish and maintain a peaceful world and build at home a dynamic prosperity in which every citizen fairly shares.”
“We shall ever build anew, that our children and their children, without distinction because of race, creed or color, may know the blessings of our free land.”
“We believe that basic to governmental integrity are unimpeachable ethical standards and irreproachable personal conduct by all people in government. We shall continue our insistence on honesty as an indispensable requirement of public service. We shall continue to root out corruption whenever and wherever it appears.”
“We are proud of and shall continue our far-reaching and sound advances in matters of basic human needs—expansion of social security—broadened coverage in unemployment insurance —improved housing—and better health protection for all our people. We are determined that our government remain warmly responsive to the urgent social and economic problems of our people.”
DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM 1956 – REMAINING TRUE
http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=29601&st=Democratic+Party+Platform+of+1956&st1=
“We recognize monopolies and monopolistic practices as the real barriers between the people and their economic and political freedom. Monopolies act to stifle equality of opportunity and prevent the infusion of fresh blood into the life-stream of our economy. The Republican Administration has allowed giant corporate entities to dominate our economy.”
“The addition of all necessary classrooms for our primary and secondary schools; the construction of needed new homes, with a proper proportion devoted to the re-housing of low and middle income families in urban and rural areas; the increase of benefits under the Old Age Assistance and Old Age Survivors Insurance Programs; a substantial expansion in hospital facilities and medical research; and a doubling of our programs for resource development and conservation.”
“We condemn the Republican use of our revenue and money systems to benefit the few at the expense of the vast majority of our people.”
“We pledge ourselves to achieve an honest and realistic balance of the Federal Budget in a just and fully prosperous American economy.”
“The Republican tax policy has joined hands in an unholy alliance with the hard-money policy. Fantastic misrepresentation of the Government’s budgetary position has been used to deny tax relief to low- and middle-income families, while tax concessions and handouts have been generously sprinkled among potential campaign contributors to Republican coffers.”
It’s interesting to review that list and see how successful Obama & pals have been in working towards those conservative goals.
At the very least, with most of them they’ve just continued those “successful” conservative policies [e.g., tax cuts and wars].
And that effort continues unabated.
I read somewhere that one or both houses of the California legislature had approved a measure setting aside a day each year to “honor” Reagan.
Current honorees are John Muir and Cesar Chavez.
Perhaps some of our CA pups can enlighten us further.
Oh, I understood that to be the employment requirement.
It’s interesting that I can tell a Blue Texan post just by reading the headline. Sarah Palin, John McCain, Sean Hannity, Tea Party, et al. In regards to this one:
Aside from SCOTUS (so far) and weakening of gun laws (no strengthening lately), everything above can be applied to Barack Obama.
I guess my concern should be assuaged since he put another Catholic on the Supreme Court and signed a bill that, come 2014, will effectively outlaw insurance coverage of abortion services.
You just keep on telling your minions and yourself that, ok, man on dog Santorium. The rest of us sane people will just keep on trying to dig ourselves out of the hole “Conservatism” has left us in.
Was not those tax cuts supposed to increase the size of the national economic pot, grow economy and grow jobs when the bill was passed.
Am I permitted now to give at-least a grade F to that theory and call it a stupendous failure.
Then why are we still continuing those tax policies even now. Can we get back to the progressive taxes we had till end of 1960s when we were fiscally responsible, paid off our debts, dollar had strong underlying strength, had huge buying power and most importantly our society was more egalitarian.
Really officer, I’m not normally this way. It’s totally out of character for me to drive fast on drugs while drinking a martini. Can’t we just let this one go and I’ll promise to never do it again?
