Hi
hey bb — how’s your bay tonight?
Sssssshhh, I’m trying to watch a toon over here…
hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight?
Great, Suz.
Borscht Belt anteater LOL
How’s evvabody this evening? I am in 6 kinds of pain because the weather is changing again. I need to pop my last percoset.
i used to love these toons…. loved the self-depreciating humor. iirc, this is the most contempary cartoon i’ve posted — don’t think i’ve done any other cartoons from the 70′s

The Fray
hey thatguy — ouch and on a sat nite no less — fingers and toes crossed sun is better
My reaction too, I’m loving it.
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
hey margot — how ya doing?
Dang, Not even top ten… Ya snooze, ya lose…! ;-)
Weather is messing with my hip. NSAIDs are it for me, can’t use medication that works better with less renal toxicity again yet.
I don’t have offer yet, but I did get asked for information for background check, plus gave consent for pre-employment urinalysis. I hope my not recalling when I did my second Masters (think it was ’93, maybe ’94) isn’t going to be a problem. University can verify I did get degree.
Short version cloudy cool and threatening precipitation. Did not… until tomorrow.
My universal gym is rusted in spots so I took it apart, grinded and sanded the rust and flaky paint and am in the middle of priming before I paint it and reassemble it. It is good for hanging leg lifts, all kinds of bench presses and other exercises. It has safety bars if you try for more than you can handle. Keeps my mind off of the big bummer. The bay is cold and windy. How’s yours?
Really lovely.
Temps last week went from 80′s to 30′s Friday and we went nuts shutting up all the open windows. It was crazy. Today, a beautiful 70′s day with fresh air — yesterday snow flurries.
aloha ct — how’s paradise?
Sorry dude. I switched back to aspirin. It helped.
John Byner was so great in these! Thanks Suz.
“Like a morning in the girls’ bathroom at Itawamba High…during an outbreak of dysentery.”
hey wmd — my hip sympathizes :(
that’s good news that they are asking for more info for background etc. fingers and toes crossed for ya
cold windy with bands of showers blowing through. brrrr
hey ev — he was forking great :) how ya doing tonight?
The Fray
PBS
Dance of Spring – working on my income tax
yeah, they are spending money to make sure before making an offer. It’s a good sign. I really like the work I’d be doing.
oooh that will be a good one ce — didja catch the pbs The Buddha — aired this week up here and was really good. i learned a lot
I had to move the paint project to the backroom as the chemicals were very toxic. hand needed rubber gloves and used a mask. It is to damp out and I need to get this done before the re-carpet happens and I have to move everything.
hey mr why — ouch — i still have a few things to gather and had a call from the tax lady today reminding me that time was getting short.
Link please. I like Buddha talk. Got to stick some Butternut squash plants in the planters along with various seeds a Super Sluggo debugger. I may have some surviving veggie starters.
I didn’t — but it might be repeated. I love PBS
link for tv show… easily found via the google
And of course it wouldn’t be a ThatGuy visit without some killer music…
Doing fine here, just trying to adjust to very changeable weather.
Oh, I just finished reading a good book: Bone Rattler by Eliot Pattison.
We just had our annual “Merrie Monarch Parade” today…! A veritable plethora of babes on parade, literally…! ;-)
that’s good but this is killer
edit reply to thatguy
drove into town today and could see snow atop the hills surrounding town. i thought this cartoon had our weather this week down pat
Well you know how much I love ol’ Delbert and Lee Roy.
I’m asleep at the switch! I thought it was still late nite.
Suz, you’re everywhere. There’s a song about that somewhere!
Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller was good show on Wednesday. Ended up having date cancel on me, so I just waited at Fillmore ticket window and gave extra to first person that wanted it (I won two tickets from KPIG previous Friday).
Oh, and Shawn Colvin sang a duet with Patty, plus encore. EmmyLou Harris wasn’t present.
The snow at the peaks in the Gorge is startling!
Doin’ reasonably well, thank you.
There was a fox barking in the back yard earlier tonight, which always makes me a little concerned for my cat. Then again, the last time my cat saw him in the yard he took off after him and chased him out, so maybe I should worry more for the fox!
Other than that, just doing some analytical writing, and trying to decide how much real organizing and change (as opposed to enjoyable but ultimately ineffective chit-chat) can occur here at FDL. FDL’s set up more to have people read the diaries (which are generally excellent), and I’m more interested in actually mobilizing people to develop new social structures together and make things meaningfully different.
So I’m considering starting my own place, but I just don’t wanna write all the code to implement the kind of interaction tools I really think are necessary (I’m too old and lazy and tired). I’ve been spending some time here at FDL trying to see if it can work within these constraints, but I don’t know that it can – FDL’s just not set up to let people conduct in-depth discussions with each other. That and the level of “veal pen + Mean Girls” commentary at FDL sometimes can make it hard to take.
How are you this fine spring evening?
dayam, good to see the ticket went to someone who appreciated it…. that sounds like it was one hella show dood
beatles here there everywhere?
the fellow I gave it to asked if I wanted anything for it; I told him he could buy me a beer if he wanted… he searched me out during the break to buy me a beer.
And it was a good show. Fillmore is a great venue. Free apples!
Oh please sing…

i’m doing better tonight ev — my mood has been pretty foul and cynical this week — hope to find my inner pollyanna again
hey emerson — how’s the east bay tonight?
No, more like a cell phone commercial~ Or sumptin’ like that!
The Beatles are better! LOL!
can ya hear me now?
I was very pollyanna-ish yesterday, told a friend that I expect the financial crisis after next will result in an end to finance being used for keeping score, that productivity and innovation over the coming decade will mean an end to scarcity and a realization that societies cannot afford poverty anymore.
I hope I’m right about it. Lot of work to be done to assure that outcome.
I can’t hear you!
Thank you so much for that.
starbuck, i put up the peony pics at my place — click on my name to see them
Now for a little “horsing around”:

my pleasure
How about the notion that a Consumer-based Society can no longer afford it’s consumption…? ;-)
Nice set, Suz! #3 my favorite.
hahahahahahaha *grabbing sides* hahahahahaha
Told you about it in the e-mail. Finally posting it!
thanks — tis mine too. am worried these winds are gonna blow the petals away — it does fold them in at night but i still worry
The score keeping – I’ve got more/I’ve got mine has to stop.
Yeah for your dream and that it will come true. Some people call it heaven. But I call it right living. Good for you too.
Hi Suzanne. Jack K.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzCF6hgEfto
Liven things up…
Into the groove with Laurel and Hardy.
Is this old school?
i have no idea why that made me think of this
We were shooting stuff including tulips in Oregon City today. Also learned more about John John McLoughlin there than I thought I would ever want to know.
He was a cool dude, however, with his white main of hair:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McLoughlin
I photographed his house about 30 years ago.
how kewl — iirc, he was talked about on a recent OPB oregon experience show
ooooo like that bar-kays
The Null Hypothesis Of Capitalism : “All resources are infinite.”
It’s actually a lot more natural than that, though – humanity grows just like any other organism grows. There are times when growth and expansion are natural and helpful and necessary, and there are times after the organism has reached its final size when the growth needs to stop for the health of the organism (unchecked growth in humans leads to acromegaly and gigantism and eventually death).
The consumption side is the same way – appropriate, sustainable consumption is good and necessary. Consumption that overshoots that level and can’t be controlled is called cancer.
Of course those two are linked, the overproduction demands the overconsumption and vice versa.
With enough collective consciousness we can realize we can let go of the need to grow (at least in the forms and ways of the past) because we’ve reached the right size, and we can let go of the need to consume ever more because we long ago reached the point where we had more than we need (inequitable distribution because of that localized cancer has other parts of the body starved, of course, but we have the capacity to bring the system into balance).
Time to go do some exercise…. ;-)
Speaking of Oregon Experience show, they are doing a show on Tektronix May 3rd, in which I have some work.
i’ll keep an eye out for it — remind me please.. my sometimer’s sometimes catches up with me and i forget to remember :)
It’s also called “Cancer”.
as i’ve gotten older, i have learned to do more with less. moving to the cabin helped me start the process, moving away from the cabin refined it. i moved up here with 2 suitcases of clothing and my pooter — everything else is still in storage. this past year and a half has taught me just how little i can have and still be ok.
The Laurel and Hardy dancing to the Gap Band is also really good. The creativity in seeing the video could synchronize amazes me.
iirc, i featured a alice in wonderland and pink floyd… and one other i can’t remember — when it works, it is really good. i think it takes a lotta work to make it the sync work
*Peak Oil* could play a role…! ;-)
Guess I’ll be off to bed soon. Been a rough couple of days. My #2 son had surgery yesterday that didn’t work. Bummer! Now he has to go back again.
Anyway, G’nite folks. You too Suz!
Peak oil a new band?
Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and Wizard of Oz synchronize – some Portland radio station put on a showing at a venue in Tigard back in ’96.
oh starbuck, i’m so sorry — i’ll include him in my prayers and am sending him warm positive healing thoughts. please keep me posted — and g’nite
Thank you Suz.
Later…..
yup i think i’ve featured dark side and wizard of oz before (money is playing in my head maybe that was it). i was surprised to find the pink and alice down the rabbit hole synch’d so well also
Some guys I don’t recognize, but I DO notice O’Connor either was not plugged in (he had line to the fiddle), or they failed to pot up his source, but the bottom line is O’Connor never had a lick that was heard on that whole song. Great picking aside from that! *G*
Howdy Pups, anyone left? I’ll catch up . . . .
Nice hit, toon wise, Suzers!!!!!!!
alice on the wall
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
WMD, what a GREAT review of the show, and your ticket escapade!!
Way to donate to the cause!!!!!
And a heartful full of best wishes for your job prospect!!!
Jobs are scarce, to be as close as you are must be maddening.
G’Luck!!!!
evening, Suz – firegods
Nice Elvis cover.
And on the subject of covers, I like this one better than Dusty’s original.
Ooh, My condolences to you and your son, Starbuck…! 8-(
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay tonight?
Showing kindness to strangers is a good way to live.
onmystars that joan osbourne is hot! she sure does give dusty a run for the money — this is one of the best covers joan has done in my humble opinion
Hoping the next one is the last, Starbuck.
On The Road, Allen Wise . . .
Allen Tinkles, Kerouac Waxes
My fav passage. Evah.
The sparkler dims . . . . sigh.
Kerouac.
It’s easy to be a bit impatient. But it doesn’t help.
i was surprised no one played this joan during es’ ganja thread last night
pretty good, thanks – how’s everything up north?
Right? I was shocked to come across that tonight as I was checking out John Byner clips.
That Joan is known for “One of Us” is a testament to the lack of skill of A&R part of the recording industry.
Hey Protect, good to see ya.
You stole my clip!!!!
What can I say, genius and appreciation of art knows no bounds.
Sointantly my fav passage from Kerouac.
Dang.
Still laffin now. Thought for SURE I’d scoop that one.
*G*
no kidding — i think her singing is way underappreciated
congrats on snagging the 100 emerson
hey emerson — my turn this week with a parent in the hospital
Starbuck bad luck wishing he is better fast.
oh no ppd — everything ok?
I hear we’re ‘sposed to be gearing up for hard rains, but the sat’s don’t show it to me, just a mild pattern coming on shore. Cloudy and windy a bit today, I guess the rain is tomorrow and Monday.
We’ll see, any rain and snow in the mountains is thankful to add to our CA needs.
And you, ma’am? How’s the critters and plants!
What happened Protect?
Joan’s Gary Wright cover is good too. It really boggles my mind that she hasn’t been promoted much, she sings with such soul.
Getting tired of people accusing me of shit!
(kidding) :-)
token is curled up in some unfolded clean laundry (his most fav thing in the world is fresh from the dyer clothes), bailey is curled up in her blanket — and the peony is in bloom. pix at my place
Very nice.
oh yeah that is smooth and sultry.
Yeh, yer on THAT one, for sure . . . .
I recall fests and shows long ago in late 60′s and up thru last year, where tickets happened out of nowhere, as did all the vagaries of being at a fest. ;-)
I’ll only admit, me and mine could not attend a fav fest last fall, and tickets mysteriously appeared in the mail from the fest office . . . ‘benefactor who wishes to remain unnamed’ . . . .
We think it’s a clever marketing tool by the fest owners, but if so, they DID single us out, and bring us in.
And I’ve never been so greatful in all my daze. After missing a fest, and our campmates, and the jams, and the whole 5 days of sharing food, camp space, time, music, Bushmills and more, to be comped in was a joy.
joan does a good dylan too
I LOVE John Byner!! His old show, petting the HUGE hairy mammoth leg, in his opening monologue!
And again, nice catch on one of my fav clips evah, of Kerouac and Allen . . . glad I’m not the ONLY one who’s ever seen it!!!
He told SUCH a great story . . . . . sigh.
Joan covers this too, but I like the original better.
oh larue i’m so glad those tickets appeared….that they missed you and wanted you there
i hereby nominate joan queen of covers. :) she really is versatile.
That is perfect. Tough place to sing with tourists on the way to their cars. Used to work a block from there.
Niters May all your troubles be little ones.
Sweet!
g’nite bb
Well, I’ve been staying up until my cat came home. He’s inside now. Time for bed.
good night all. Maybe next weekend I’ll be celebrating accepting an offer.
g’nite wmd
Good Luck, wmd…! ;-)
Byner did the voices in Suz’ toon tonight. I could’ve sworn one of them was Jackie Mason, then remembered that Byner did a whole Sullivan show impersonation and Mason was included.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6iTgkpjJpA
Now they are — nearly a week of meds helped
One final video.
Suz, have you ever seen this warning at Wiki…?
Weasel words…? ;-)
thank goodness ppd — continued well wishes for a speedy recovery
i’ve seen it before… iirc that same warning was on the srv link i used thur nite.
not sure why they do that
ohmystars, that took me back dood
thanks, Suz
My sisters’ and my favorite Sulliivan comics were Byner and Richard Pryor. They killed it every time.
Sounds good now, Protect. No more hospital visits planned, right?
I’ve liked Osbourne over the years. I tend to favor Michelle Shocked, cuz of her more bluegrassy/acoustic side project. Michelle’s cover of ‘The L&N Don’t Stop Here Anymore’ is sweet on that project but Youtube don’t have it by Michelle. I encourage folks to google Michelle and her bluegrass project, which name I don’t recall at hand.
Another Joan, folks should google up, is Joan Armatrading, whom I grew up (on the radio) with in the 70′s, and check out ‘Show Some Emotion’ project, especially.
Yer officially, now, killin me, Emerson . . . srsly.
lolololololol
sunday nites hurt. one tv and 3 channels. ed sullivan or the fbi or bonanza. we quickly eliminated bonanza and ended up alternating weeks between ed and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr
What IS it about pets and their need to mark fresh laundry????
*G*
I’ll wander by yer place tomorrow for pics, thanks for the tip!!!
*G*
The Sufist Sangs Teh Song!!!
*G*
i think he is after the warmth. and he does have a weakness for soft textiles… lingerie is a close second to dryer clothes.
We’re out of the woods on this issue, but we’ve got some other follow ups next week.
There was a 6-second delay in that post going through. *g*
And what about you-calling me a woman? Dood, I’ve been talking to you for a year and a half!!
Good lord, I burned thru about 5 copies of that Dave Mason album and still don’t have a one of them.
It was one of the greatest, and easily overlooked after a few years, sadly.
His guests, band, and songs are legends for us high schoolers.
Look At Me Look At You alone is likely responsible for more lovemaking and births than Carol King’s Tapestry or Joni Mitchell’s Blue . . . .
*G*
*innocent look*
*heh* Weasel Words…!
You’re all in my thoughts. I’ll send off the strong energy blast your way. Where are your parents?
Suz, thanks, it was incredibly humbling when it happened.
We’re not gonna make it this Spring Memorial Weekend, sadly.
So, hopin for better employment and such for Fall.
And yeah, I miss my pickin pals from Santa Cruz, at this fest and a couple of other ones.
Still, they got me goin music wise, and I got time to practice to impress them!!! lol
Yep!
night all – be well
John Byner was a hero, talented beyond belief.
Another Canadian.
He set a stage for many others, early on.
Hah!! The trigger finger!
g’nite ppd
thanks, emerson – everything’s five minutes away so we’ve got it covered
Was he from Second City? That whole group is sick.
night Suz
‘K, now we’re talkin a HORNY pet?????
*G*
Great! Sleep well Protect. You can probably use it more than you think.
Did I mess up the gender thang again? It’s so hard to tell anymore’s.
I need an FDL scorecard!!!!
*G*
*mybad*
I want one of them . . . you buyin or sellin?
lol
he is an it but seems to forget sometimes.. hence the need for the snoopy hump errrrr stuffed animal. always the snoopy — never the laundry or lingerie
I SWORE before I clicked I’d likely see Zappa Lyrics or clips . . .
But ya ripped my flesh, once again . . . ;-)
the innocent look or a mod screening your post?
zappa weasels
Good question, I don’t recall him from SCTV, only from his late night show on the networks.
I forget when it was . . . but he was great.
Loved his smiley snark, reminds me of what that other Canacuckistanian I love has goin for him.
Ok, update, here.
I was NOT thinking of John Byner, but David Steinberg who hugged the hairy foot! He WAS Canadian.
And the other dude that Steinberg reminded me of, of course, is Martin Short.
My Canadian Wife, bless her little heart, reminded me of all this moments ago.
Sigh. Dead cells. *rollseyes*
Thank dawg for honey.
I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu…! Aloha Oe…! *g*
So, how about them Giants, 4-1 after tonight!!!!
*G*
All that, Yellow Snow, and Dental Floss.
Lord, one of the greats.
And a warm fondue to you, too . . . *G*

If you’re going to stay up this late, you might as well boogie all night.
Little Feat with some lovely backing vocalists.
Love Martin Short. Steinberg was amazing too and is still a great producer. He also used to be tailed by the CIA and FBI in the Smothers Brothers days.
I bow to yer wow.
*G*
other mothers
Wow. Suzy Creamcheese!!!!
Da Frank . . .
ska-weeee dixie chicken!!!
One of my favorite harmonizing songs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNqv85coyTw
Killin me.
A band I never thought I’d ever see, along with many over a decade or so that I did not festivate or show.
I missed some great live music in my misses.
2005 I got to see Little Feat, Strawberry Music Fest, outside of Yosemite.
Man, THAT made up for some missin music, outside of I never saw Lowell George.
But, there they were in ’05, and top shelf, loud, in the music meadow with 5,000 of us camped out and packed in to see them close the night. They all boogied, all 5,000. Start to finish.
What a show!
other suzie
Yeah, now that I recall Steinberg from Byner, he WAS a political misfit as were The Smothers Bro’s.
And as we all know, back then, they and we, were all under surveillance.
Not much has changed.
*sadicon*
Yayyy! El Cerrito representing!
Dang that’s a nice cut that never gets play!!!
Well done.
*G*
linda
NIce one…
As a song, it’s made for harmony.
I always liked Linda’s version, though.
She was so pretty. First time I saw her, I thought,” She’s not from Cal-she’s a brunette.” We ALL thought that back east.
more linda
Reminds me of high school breaks in spring, from San Mateo.
We busted up to Clear Lake, or Berryessa Lake.
Two guys had ski boats.
Everyone else kicked in beer, firewood, money, gas money and such.
Camp out for a few days on the lake, ski all day, and you know the rest.
I learned about open fire grills and fresh meats and such from them times.
Had never experienced it all.
And CCR and Suzie Q was the fav tune du jour, along with some Spirit and Fresh Garbage and Stevie Miller’s Livin In The USA album . . . sigh. What fun. I was only 16 or so at the time, ended up at 18.
take the money and run
Heh, I got to see her at age 13 at the San Carlos Circle Star with the Stoned Pony’s, doing Silver Threads N Golden Needles and Different Drum.
I had an older sis who had to take me, and I knew the top 40 radio at the time!
*G*
My honey and I went about 2002 near Sac to see Linda with the Jazz Band she was doing. Same incredible voice, different genre and songs.
Good, though. REALLY good.
newer livin
Yeah, and then there’s this line:
“Yessir Brother Sherrif and that’s yer wife in the back of my bus.
Cus I’m a gangster.”
*G*
REALLY old Stevie Miller.
*G*
When Boz Scaggs and Norton Buffalo were in the band.
Yeah. That old.
*G*
The last time I was there was for Luther on New Year’s Eve.
The first time we heard of Linda was when Different Drum came out. She can sing.
Great thread again Suz, as always, and great music and vids, and great comments from all Pups.
But I gotta *poof* . . .
Stay warm, well fed, and happy all of yas.
We do it again!!!!
Another Suzie, sorta.
g’nite larue
Closer.
I was 14 when Different Drum came out, and the girl of my dreams shattered my life and broke up with me by giving me back ‘the bracelet’ and a copy of that song and Brown Eyed Girl.
Best broken heart I ever had.
*G*
Niter’s all . . . . .
Steve Miller wasn’t big in the hood. Seemed big everywhere else.
congrats on snaggin the 200 mr why — i thought that was gonna be suzi quatro… i like it
maybe a west coast kinda deal. lotsa big names on each coast that were unheard of on the other
YOu’re better off with Canadians, Larue. Nite.
its late and i have to get up early. thanks for all the good tunes tonight everyone
g’nite all
One more for the hostess with the mostest.
oh my not heard that in years — thank you
*poofing in a cloud of smoke*
Never heard that song. Is that really Graham Nash?
Nite Mr. Why and Suzanne.
Lots of mine violations. What price does Massey, Blankenship and Massey’s stockholders pay? Does it amount to negligent homicide?
