My dog is a jack russell and weiner dog. She is the most interesting dog I have ever lived with. She hoards things under the bed. Dozens of things. And she worries alot but she is a lover.
I had two rat terriors about 10 years ago. I think they’re part jack russell. Anyway, Millie Bean could not be kept inside the fences. Eventually, she disappeared and I suspect she was a coyote’s lunch. I had fencing put underground, on top of the yard, everything I could think of, but she still escaped…
That ended his hot-shotedness for sure. Now he’s just trying to sue over healthcare, far as I know. I’ll never forget how sorry his performance was following Obama. The red and white tie in front of the curving staircase…but mostly the voice!
He’s wonderful… someone removed my favorite youtube of his… which I posted here years ago. I had the pleasure of meeting him and playing his nearly hundred year old guitar one evening in Memphis.
I was talking to a friend about Code Pink following Rove around at book signings. I like the interruptions, but I also want to there to be “very serious people” there to explain why they are following around Rove.
If you wanted to, grab the best of Emptywheel’s stuff that demonstrates that Cheney is a war criminal and go to the event. If the TV want to talk to MOS (Man on the street) you can very thoughtfully say what you think.
Calmly state why you think that Cheney should be on trial for war crimes and point out that this is something that he is acting as if he is one because he has restricted his travel to countries that might charge him. So you aren’t the only one who think this. Even Cheney is aware of his exposure.
I would LOVE to see a MOS interview like that at a protest about Cheney.
Greetings, Pups (and ‘specially kenergenx, our newly former lurker)
Just a quick drive-by because I have good news! Finally, finally landed a job at the Univ of Wa last week. Formal paperwork this week, no start date yet, but very soon now, I’ll be a working stiff again. Whew. This has been a long haul.
Well I plan on attending as a protester. I was among the veal pen when king george showed up. Also when the scumbag Ollie North spoke. I was a coward when my ex worked at the org. I could not jeopardize her job. Please forgive me!
I fear for wikileaks too, sunny and newt, but the cat’s out of the bag. How could we go back? Fearless reporters are back…as are the whistleblowers. Maybe the governments and corporations will think twice now. I am in awe.
Here’s a letter I’m working on. I’m thinking of a could of letters targeted to different functional groups and specific people within the company. This would be for the HR and Brand people.
Dear Starbucks:
Sometimes you end up hanging with the wrong crowd. In this case the Open Carry gun crowd. Maybe you thought that they were harmless. Or maybe you thought they were exciting or edgy. Maybe you didn’t want to hurt their feelings by saying they couldn’t come over to your house for dessert. It’s also possible they acted like bullies deciding to shake you down. Bullies don’t care about you or your brand. They want what they want and if you change your mind about associating with them they will make you regret it,
I don’t know the reasons you decided to let them in your stores, but you did. And now you don’t know how to get out of your position without it getting worse. I’m here to help.
You see, I’m all about helping companies protect their brands by staying away from people who might taint them.
Also, if you handle this as I suggest, you can get out of becoming the home of the Open Carry gun crowd and not get the entire NRA to boycott you.
The key? Look at your own stated values and follow them. Let’s review:
Our Stores
When our customers feel this sense of belonging, our stores become a haven, a break from the worries outside, a place where you can meet with friends. It’s about enjoyment at the speed of life – sometimes slow and savored, sometimes faster. Always full of humanity.
Our Neighborhood
Every store is part of a community, and we take our responsibility to be good neighbors seriously. We want to be invited in wherever we do business. We can be a force for positive action – bringing together our partners, customers, and the community to contribute every day. Now we see that our responsibility – and our potential for good – is even larger. The world is looking to Starbucks to set the new standard, yet again. We will lead.
Now I ask you. does inviting the open carry people onto your premises make your stores, “a haven” for your other customers? Does it become a “break from the worries outside” or does it bring the worries inside?
Are you being a good neighbor when you become the “go-to” place for people with weapons who aren’t law enforcement officers? Have you asked your neighbors what they think of your policy? I have. In three different communities. Walnut Creek, San Mateo and Palo Alto. 90 percent of the businesses around your locations didn’t like it. Is this the “good” you are hoping to bring to the community?
You say that your mission is: to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.
Just how does letting people with guns come into your shops nurture the human spirit?
Maybe it nurtures the people with the guns strapped to their hips–but what of the rest of the customers?
..
..
I’ve got more but that my start for those specific people.
The lie /coverup alone should have a bunch of people from McChrystal on down thrown out of duty.
By “thrown out of duty” you mean “awarded the Medal of Freedom,” don’t you?
(We award it to those who have been most successful in helping their fellow human being free themselves from this mortal coil.)
And it’s still a veritable stonewall tonight out in the MSM, given the importance of this story. Not that that’s surprising – the MSM are simply the marketing department of a larger corporate enterprise. But it’s sickening to watch the complicity in action.
Wonderful, spocko. I’m involved in a local Coffee Party, and we decided no Starbucks for our meet ups for this very reason. You may want to give them a heads up on that…
Hey I understand. If you want to get on camera it’s possible. You just need to think like a reporter/producer/camera person.
Camera people come in and look at the crowd, get shots of the interesting signs. The reporters look for official “spokespeople” or wait until one of them approaches them. ‘Hi, if you want to talk to someone why we are protesting I’d be happy to talk.”
Practice your reasons out loud a few times before hand.
Have a few friends listen. Ask them what the shortest most powerful thing you said was, that is the part that might be picked up.
Learn to say that part well. Watch and see who else they are talking two before hand, sometimes the person who says the same thing best gets on TV.
I’ll be working in a lab that studies neutrophils. These are important immune cells involved in inflammation. Too active and they cause auto-immune effects that are nasty and most commonly treated with prednisone.
So, I’m back to the lab bench! Huzzah! Money will still be a bit tight, but nothing like living on UI and what’s left of the 401K!
Thank you all for the congratulations and good wishes.
I have other letters that are hard hitting financially, when you want to change a corporations behavior you need to appeal to both the soft and hard sides. I’ve been talking to insurance carriers about the cost of insurance after “an incident” sadly until there is an incident it will be “nobody could have anticipated…” hypothetically fears aren’t as strong as having to pay real settlements.
Command responsibility, sometimes referred to as the Yamashita standard or the Medina standard, is the doctrine of hierarchical accountability in cases of war crimes.[1][2][3]
The doctrine of “command responsibility” was established by the Hague Conventions IV (1907) and X (1907) and applied for the first time by the German Supreme Court in Leipzig after World War I, in the trial of Emil Muller.[4][5][6]
The “Yamashita standard” is based upon the precedent set by the United States Supreme Court in the case of Japanese General Tomoyuki Yamashita. He was prosecuted, in a still controversial trial, for atrocities committed by troops under his command in the Philippines. Yamashita was charged with “unlawfully disregarding and failing to discharge his duty as a commander to control the acts of members of his command by permitting them to commit war crimes
.
“On 23 February 1946, at Los Baños Prison Camp, 30 miles (48 km) south of Manila Tomoyuki Yamashita was hanged.” (Wikipedia)
But what it the responsibility of the members of a congress that will not throw such leaders out of office? And, what is the responsibility of people like Pelosi to unilaterally block all efforts to remove war criminals from office?
And what is the responsibility of an electorate who tolerate such leaders?
Um, Mary, it looks like she’s on a bed. With pillows. Spoiled much??!
Duh! She sleeps with me. So does Wally, The Best Dog Evah and Tucker, the maine coon kittah. But not Ron. He snores way too much. Just ask the animals.
And CNN gave far more coverage to an Easter egg hunt and anguished Sandra Bullock. Oh, those cute kids! And poor Sandra! And most important of all: March Madness!
(CNN has just bumped this story to the middle of their front page, after hiding it behind a single text link all night.)
CNN’s headline: “Video shows deaths of two Reuters journalists in Iraq in 2007″
Yep, those two guys just…died. Maybe from dehydration (that’s when all the fluid runs out of your body, right? Blood’s a fluid!). And no other connection to anything else at all. Certainly no US involvement, or accusations of murder, or years of denial and coverup. Nope, no, nooooo.”
While Loo Hoo says the cat’s out of the bag, it isn’t if the world doesn’t know about it.
I’ve been seeding the torrent of the long video all day.
Hey, I’m going to pull “Diva” and launch into What’s On My Mind Tonight”. Just got an opportunity to check in.
We just went through a scary, crazy man gone off the deep end incident.
The fucking SWAT and deputies were a fucking joke!!! My son and another neighbor were First Responders, not because they were trained “government sanctioned”, but because they were the only ones with the balls to respond and roll the work trucks out of the garage before they turned into bombs.
If you think you’re getting your money value per tax dollar….think again.
Also, it would be very good, as a Homeschool Mother who’s taken a lot of opinionated hits because of our choice in parenting, here on FDL, well, it’d be good to hear a “Thank you for raising a son who can save the neighbors property knowing there’s a potential shooter. Keep his cool when he turns around after the fire’s under control and a fucking SWAT guy has a rifle aimed at him. He says,” What’s up?’.
They want to know where he would hide if he were running.
He says,”Did you check the green house over there? That’s a good place.”.
The Man-in Charge says,” Well, no, I haven’t done that personally.”
He says, ” If it was me I’d go up on the mountain.”.
They say they’ll start there in the morning.
5 minutes later 3 guys with rifles surround the green house.
Security is one fucked up illusion.
Command responsibility, sometimes referred to as the Yamashita standard or the Medina standard, is the doctrine of hierarchical accountability in cases of war crimes
…as defined and prosecuted by those in power.
Accountability is only for the losers.
When winners commit war crimes, it’s called “victory.”
Those defendants who were in compliance with German law but had violated international law were found guilty at Nuremberg. Consequently, Nuremberg changed forever the anarchic context in which the nations and peoples of the world related to one another. Nuremberg held that national leaders are responsible for what they do as heads of nation states – under international law. It held that individuals have rights under international law, which are not dependant on nation state recognition. Nuremberg held that there are enforceable international norms governing the conduct of armed conflict and that individuals are answerable for violating these norms.
Another vital contribution to international human rights is found in Jackson’s endorsement of the principle of universal jurisdiction. As Jackson so movingly stated in his opening statement on November 21, 1946, “the real complaining party at your bar is civilization to pass these defendants a poison chalice is to put it to our lips as well.”
Unless we hold Obama and Bush to the same standards that we did Yamashita and Goering, the accusation that Nuremberg was yet another case of “victors’ justice” is irrefutable.
If someone in the chain of command doesn’t put a leach on the troop they may turn on anyone. We have streets full of vets with more on the way. 1/4 of the homeless that is an equation for trouble. Lot of suicide and troubled people with little help.
Unless we hold Obama and Bush to the same standards that we did Yamashita and Goering, the accusation that Nuremberg was yet another case of “victors’ justice” is irrefutable.
I’d say it’s already clear we haven’t and won’t.
And now that I think about it, isn’t the phrase “victors’ justice” redundant? “Justice” is simply the enforcement of the rules of the powerful, by the powerful.
It’s “justice” in the same sense that the Pentagon’s primary activity is “defense.”
Yes, 3 hours after he dosed the men trying to collect on money owed for work done. He threw 5 gallons of gas on them and tried to light them with a Bic, but it wouldn’t work. So he ran into his house and got his 45 pistol while they were running for their truck. He stared shooting and one of the guys laid down in the truck. He reached in , pointed at his head and pulled the trigger. He was out of bullets. He ran back for more ammo and they got the hell out of there and into sanctuary at the Fire Hall. When the police responded he shot at them.
We had a grapevine of phone calls tracing him in the community. “He’s headed for North Beach”, “He’s going towards the mountain.”. That’s where his victim lived and he torched their property.While they were sitting in the Fire Hall with cops and Fire Fighters. Who would not respond with a shooter out there.
Fuck, they had 2 big tank like vehicles, 30 deputies including SWAT…my son passed 5 cop cars at the bottem of the hill when he went up to put out the fire. Not one of them cruised past. Until it was over and the SWAT guys showed up to point a gun at him while he was working on the fire.
I watched Both Olbermann and Rachel tonight and neither of them covered this story. Rachel covered the horrible night raid in Afghanistan, but Keith did not. (Unless I missed something when I fast forwarded.)
Maybe all justice boils down to “Good is when I steal from you, and Evil is when you steal from me.” But I’d like to think that there is more to it than that.
I’m okay. The huge bummer is the victim was having money problems and they’re insurance lapsed.
The oldest son is a friend of my son. He saw the gas thrown. He saw the gun pointed at his Dad and the trigger pulled. He was helpless to fight the fire. He is handling it so incredibly well, under the circumstances.
The fucking right wing Fundamentalist Christian, Woman Hating, dangerous man is in custody and going away for a long time.
The hard part is knowing that what he did is going to impact this family for a long time,too.
Rachel said like playing a video game with people really dying.
For those Apache Pilots that’s exactly what it’s like…! 8-(
We ground-pounders know otherwise and have to deal with the consequences face-to-face…! Did ya notice that the grunts tried to evacuate the children immediately…?
This idea of holding Obama and Bush on the same field really worries me. Bush/Cheney etc. created this nightmare. Obama isn’t anywhere near in their league.
Obama has lots of considerations, nationally and internationally. If you think Obama is an evil man, as is Cheney, let’s hear it.
Start to finish: Attempted homicide.
Evading arrest
high speed chase through the community
30 cops with cool equipment show up
cops lose suspect in high speed chase but community keeps tracking through the Grapevine
Suspect torches victim’s property
Fire crew does not respond
Openhope’s son and another man respond and put out the fire
We house the victims overnight with big dogs and more guns than I’m comfortable with.
Asshole gives up at 6 the next morning.
I watched Both Olbermann and Rachel tonight and neither of them covered this story.
Ugh, Maddow. She’s best described as a perineum.
Maybe all justice boils down to “Good is when I steal from you, and Evil is when you steal from me.” But I’d like to think that there is more to it than that.
I’d say there is more to it than that.
“Good” and “evil” are both simply limitations of one’s ability to see – and in the end, illusions.
There is only what happens, and one’s willingness to feel it.
I think you might be a whore, though there is nothing wrong with that…I loved wayne Gretsky, and yes I think sid crosby, is a stand up guy, if thats who you meant?
Oh, forgot the best part. The media reports that not 2 but 4 people were dosed with gas. As does the Sheriff’s department. The Fire Department is pointedly mentioned as controlling the fire. In every story.
Unfortunately, the Grapevine’s robust again. ” Did you hear the sirens? No, me either.”
After the panic comes the fun part of piecing the story together.
A whore…? ;-) I was born in Edmonton and lived in Boston and Denver, at various times in my life…! Pre-Elway Denver and I’ve been to Fenway a few times…! ;-)
I’ve seen a lot of places around the world, too…! ;-)
hope you didnt take offense to that, I am Sorry if you did, seriously sorry, I don’t want to make enemies as a virgin fdler. If it helps I’ve been drinking too much and am lacking sleep :|
If you think Obama is an evil man, as is Cheney, let’s hear it.
I don’t know how to compare evil people. I just know that when a commander-in-chief deploys troops and commanders that have a reputation for brutality against civilians and prisoners and keeps them in place when evidence to support that reputation arrives, either that commander-in-chief removes those troops and commanders or he/she is guilty under the doctrine of “command responsibility,” just like General Yamashita, whom we hanged.
Well, just as a counterbalance, remember that this is the same commander in chief negotiating treaties to rid the world of nuclear weapons. If this commander in chief is not re-elected, and a republican-any republican-is put in his place, that will not happen.
It is not easy, it isn’t what we would want, but oftentimes it is what is politically possible.
Imagine if McCain/Palin had been elected for just a moment.
There is nothing perfect possible, only what is really possible.
EV, it’s not a false dichotomy in that the electorate attempted to halt the prior regime’s malfeasance, what’s wrong is that both party Apparatchik’s are knee deep in this extrajudicial quagmire…! 8-(
It is a false dichotomy when it’s used as it was to rationalize the current state of affairs.
(I don’t know, it might not be in Canada ;-) ).
It’s precisely because there aren’t even two parties – only two shifts working at the same slaughterhouse – that such “but don’t criticize this one, think how much better he is than the other one!” self-delusion is so injurious to the entire country.
Name anyone on Obama’s team who’s doing anything next door to what Addington has done.
Umm, that would be…Obama.
He’s actively continuing and expanding Bush’s policies, both domestically and in our wars around the world.
This is not even a close call.
And that people continue to be in denial about it, just as people were in denial about Bush, is what allows the rapes, torture, murders and illegal wars to continue.
It’s precisely because there aren’t even two parties – only two shifts working at the same slaughterhouse – that such “but don’t criticize this one, think how much better he is than the other one!” self-delusion is so injurious to the entire country.
Something similar to what Nader has been saying for some time now…! ;-)
Admittedly, he hasn’t cracked down on the surveillance. But he is winding down the war in Iraq as was negotiated. Not his war, but wants to save face for the US…and hold out hope for American companies to do business there, rather than have us blackballed.
Afghanistan is Obama’s war to be sure, and it’s been screwed up from top to bottom. No clue what he should do there, other than to just get out.
Here are the headlines from major establishment media outlets about the WikiLeaks video. See if you, were you a casual reader, would have any idea what happened, who the guilty parties are and why the whole thing is so important.
Google News: nothing
Yahoo News: nothing
AP: “AP Top News”
CNN: “Video shows deaths of two Reuters journalists in Iraq in 2007″
WaPo: “Web site releases video of Baghdad attack that killed 2 journalists”
NYT: “Video Shows American Killing of Photographer”
MSNBC: “U.S. pilot seen firing on people in Iraq”
CBS: “Disturbing Iraq Video Leaks”
FOX: nothing on the front page
(though FOX also had the most accurate, if doubting, headline on the story buried inside)
FOX (inside): “Video Appears to Show U.S. Forces Firing on Unarmed Suspects in Baghdad”
.
For contrast, here a headline (albeit a buried one) from some other “coalition” outlets:
Times of London: “Leaked video footage shows Iraq journalists killed by US gunships”
[Obama is] actively continuing and expanding Bush’s policies, both domestically and in our wars around the world.
This painful fact disproves the oft-heard contention that Obama has turned out to be a “centrist,” or even a “right-center” President. It’s time to get real.
If Obama had succeeded Dwight Eishenhower and continued most of Ike’s policies, Obama could fairly be called a centrist President.
But Obama’s predecessor was not Dwight D. Eishenhower. His predecessor was the most right-wing, neocon President ever. By any logic, this makes Obama a neocon. I think we should call him Chicago Blue Dog No. 1:
zippy zeddy do da.
Eureka, Sea Change is tremendous.
Good evening…)
It’s pretty good. Never heard of them before this vid.
I definitely want one of birdman’s hats.
I’m beside myself. : DICK Cheney is speaking here in my home town
Take him an orange jumpsuit!
Turin Brakes?
Is that what I had in my Fiat 125?
I’ve been a lurker here. Yet I cannot stand to stay silent anymore
evening, ES & firegods
I sometimes ignore the video and tune into the tune.
But this one reminds me (for better or worse) of the chilling last battle in Saving Private Ryan… using toy soldiers.
Oh, now that you mention it, I can smell them burning now…)
Claudio Montuori!
Do you know where I can get one, without first wearing one myself?
Me, too. I was watching to see how it ended. Like the movie or not.
Good, welcome. Lurkers of the world unite!
Are you in a big city? Heck, these days army surplus should have racks of them.
Hi Mary, isn’t he great?
I love the Birdman of Lisbon. CLAUDIO!!!
Evening, ES and Pups.
Welcome, then. ‘Tis a fun place.

Nope, I’m between nites up there, I was up top last nite and I’ll be up there tomorrow nite…! ;-)
Nope, but a tin foil hat, and a kevlar vest does come in handy from time to time. :)
All the pavements in Portugal look like this in the birdman photo. We were there when the country was putting the subway in Oporto, jack-hammers were deafening. Still lovely country and fabulous food.
Oh, I love Harvey Birdman. Steven Colbert as Ken , uhhm I fergot the character name, doh
Or better yet, here, although you may have to do some searching, kenergenx.
I like them both too. Hi Loo Hoo, ES, Chris, kenergenx and everyone!
Good evening PPDCUS! And a warm one here, finally.
Margot!
Lovely evening.
Yeah, I got a chill.
I’m so tired of him.
It’s planting time, according to my neighbor. He’s 80+ and mows lawns every day, so I expect I will take his word.
Gotta give him credit, Brooks is a first rate ass.
Most boring man on the planet.
Thank you, loo hoo,[{gotta let my firedog out (a16 yr old mutt, half wiener, half Boston terrier] I don’t think I want to go to Syria!

ES, did you watch the wikileak vid…? I was sorely disappointed at how readily they where given the permission to go ‘weapons hot’…!
I’ll plant the lettuce seeds in the clay planter this weekend. The porch is like a greenhouse before we lift the storm windows.
That’s the truth!
Hi big!
David Brooks embodies the lack of interest in the real world that lives in The Village.
There was this moment of Brooksian clarity, but it passed quickly.
Oh man, did I. I didn’t see the 38 minute clip (just the 17 min), did you?
Words defy me, CT. We are country without rule of law. As if we didn’t already know.
Oh crap I didnt’t mean Boston terrier, I meant the kind on the Frasier show. sorry
Something has been chewing on my tulips! I suspect it’s deer, but cannot be sure.
Eddie.
Gotta get the deer to work on the wisteria.
*heh* proving the old adage that even a blind pig will stumble upon a truffle once in awhile…! ;-)
Hey Margot! Glad you liked your golden heart.
I like the green precious in that ring, whomever sent the link
No kidding.I have considered borrowing a goat for that.
Isn’t he though. Like he thought of something new and special.
Ooh, I watched the 17 min. one, didn’t know about the 38 min one…! Mahalo…! Tomorrow nite I shall peruse it when I’ve got the faster broadband…!
I’ve got little baby plants coming out that I’m having to thin. I promised myself I’ll do a better job of keeping up on the weeds this year.
Jack Russell
Loved it, thank you.
The wild West…Shoot first and ask question Later.
Like the Country song first things first we’ll talk later. Legalized murder.
Some Pixies for all the birthday boys & girls.
yeah That’s it.. good lord I could not think of that, talk about brain farts
evening, Margot
I have a neighbor who got 3 of those puppies, all siblings, at the animal shelter, and they are constantly patching fencing.
Hey PPDCUS
I loaded the short one at EW’s before I knew about the longer one (link here). Heh. Will load the long one while I sleep.
Yes!
I’d not seen that before. A moment of truth.
Night all — need sleep.
To Brooks’ credit, Jindal was famously atrocious.
My dog is a jack russell and weiner dog. She is the most interesting dog I have ever lived with. She hoards things under the bed. Dozens of things. And she worries alot but she is a lover.
Haven’t heard too much from Little Bobbie lately, have we?
Wow… what a combo
ES – two fine choices to open the program this evening. Thanks.
Cool…! Damn… Just reading the subtitle pisses me off…! 8-(
Not once in the 17 min version were they receiving any incoming fire… *gah*
I had two rat terriors about 10 years ago. I think they’re part jack russell. Anyway, Millie Bean could not be kept inside the fences. Eventually, she disappeared and I suspect she was a coyote’s lunch. I had fencing put underground, on top of the yard, everything I could think of, but she still escaped…
Remember how Garry Trudeau portrayed Bush 41? The empty thought-bubble?
omg, thats my dog
Do you have pics?
Off to lull myself to sleep with Tony Furtado. Night all.
That ended his hot-shotedness for sure. Now he’s just trying to sue over healthcare, far as I know. I’ll never forget how sorry his performance was following Obama. The red and white tie in front of the curving staircase…but mostly the voice!
Goodness, where’s my manners…? Aloha…! Welcome to the Lake, where the waters run wide and deep…! What neck of the woods do you hail from…? ;-)
but she’s so old, I have to consider, oh shit when she,if suffering :(
Glad you liked them, MrWhy.
don’t worry C, I’ve been lurking so long I’ve felt welcome1
Nite CE and MrWhy. We’ve made it to tax free day (or whatever they call it).
None of the people I saw appeared to have the body language of a fighting, much less attack stance.
time for some sleep – night all
He’s wonderful… someone removed my favorite youtube of his… which I posted here years ago. I had the pleasure of meeting him and playing his nearly hundred year old guitar one evening in Memphis.
Nor even any weapons…!!! 8-(
There certainly weren’t any RPG’s…!
Night and thanks for the music.
It was a massacre. Absolutely sickening. Thank you, wikileaks.
*heh* What took so long…? *g*
Didn’t I mention that Darth Cheney is speaking here. for a mfg and business assoc. (read like chamber of commerce). My Ex used to work there.. ewwww
I fear for wikileaks.
As do I. They are one serious threat to keeping this crime spree bottled up.
oh, I don’t know, but I’m really shy. Now I’ve had a couple beers, seems to have allayed some fears
Did you hear about all the shirt they experienced prior to that video’s release…?
The lie /coverup alone should have a bunch of people from McChrystal on down thrown out of duty.
Lurves that ‘Dutch Courage’…! Cheers…! ;-)
I was talking to a friend about Code Pink following Rove around at book signings. I like the interruptions, but I also want to there to be “very serious people” there to explain why they are following around Rove.

Just a quick drive-by because I have good news! Finally, finally landed a job at the Univ of Wa last week. Formal paperwork this week, no start date yet, but very soon now, I’ll be a working stiff again. Whew. This has been a long haul.
Best to all!

Congrats on the 100!
Hey Spoko, Just wanted to tell you I laughed out loud when I returned to last nights thread…. and read your reaction to the quake.
Save your files! lmao.
Even better, have printed copies of an citizens arrest/indictment… read from it and hand it out.
Congrats Funny D!
Awesome news, Funny D…! Congrats…! *g*
Um, Mary, it looks like she’s on a bed. With pillows. Spoiled much??!
WOW FUNNYDIVA! Fantastic news. What will you be doing there?
Omg, how cute. verry similar to mine. sorry no digital photos available. (mines alot more grey but with a longer snout)
Hey Hey Funny….”Good Job”….G)
Congrats, Funny Diva. So, so happy for you!!!
There’s this from 2008..
But it’s sickening to watch the complicity in action.
congratulations!!!
Wonderful, spocko. I’m involved in a local Coffee Party, and we decided no Starbucks for our meet ups for this very reason. You may want to give them a heads up on that…
ES, Uruknet has even more wikileak background info on the tragedy…!
FunnyD
I really doubt that the msm will stop following tiger around, but don’t worry I’m well versed on the reasons why us socialists hate cheney and gwb
No Shirt, I’d not seen that one, I was referring to the Icelandic adventures…! ;-)
Ooooh. Good to know.
Someone said CBS news touched on the story briefly after the coal mine and Tiger Woods.
Ohhh that’s a great idea. Go to a Tiger press conference and talk about Cheney in the hague!
I think I forgot the snark tag (/s) lolsorry
Thank you for your enthusiasm for such important work. Go get ‘em!
congrats funnydiva, I’m happy that one of us unemployed found a job.
Per the Wikipedia:

But what it the responsibility of the members of a congress that will not throw such leaders out of office? And, what is the responsibility of people like Pelosi to unilaterally block all efforts to remove war criminals from office?
And what is the responsibility of an electorate who tolerate such leaders?
I’d love to go sightseeing, the Cheney in the Hague, ~~~EDITED IN MODERATION~~~
~~~ModNote: We request that even violence of the fantasy variety remain just that, and away from these pages.~~~
sorry mods, if I pushed the envelope. but I feel its appropriate for him
Duh! She sleeps with me. So does Wally, The Best Dog Evah and Tucker, the maine coon kittah. But not Ron. He snores way too much. Just ask the animals.
And CNN gave far more coverage to an Easter egg hunt and anguished Sandra Bullock. Oh, those cute kids! And poor Sandra! And most important of all: March Madness!
(CNN has just bumped this story to the middle of their front page, after hiding it behind a single text link all night.)
CNN’s headline: “Video shows deaths of two Reuters journalists in Iraq in 2007″
Yep, those two guys just…died. Maybe from dehydration (that’s when all the fluid runs out of your body, right? Blood’s a fluid!). And no other connection to anything else at all. Certainly no US involvement, or accusations of murder, or years of denial and coverup. Nope, no, nooooo.”
While Loo Hoo says the cat’s out of the bag, it isn’t if the world doesn’t know about it.
I’ve been seeding the torrent of the long video all day.
We sure need the trials!
Can’t watch the rest saw 4 minutes.
My God, what have we become. NYT online right now has it off to the left a fair way down their fp.
DOn’t blame you… it gets much worse.
Sadly, I caucused and voted for ObamaRahma precisely to prosecute Shrubco…!
Next time I’ll continue my past tradition of voting for Nader…! 8-(
As more apologies are necessary, Im a bit slow on this (missed your comment), from around EErie, PA
Time for me to turn in.
Good night fighting firedogs.
Hey, I’m going to pull “Diva” and launch into What’s On My Mind Tonight”. Just got an opportunity to check in.
We just went through a scary, crazy man gone off the deep end incident.
The fucking SWAT and deputies were a fucking joke!!! My son and another neighbor were First Responders, not because they were trained “government sanctioned”, but because they were the only ones with the balls to respond and roll the work trucks out of the garage before they turned into bombs.
If you think you’re getting your money value per tax dollar….think again.
Also, it would be very good, as a Homeschool Mother who’s taken a lot of opinionated hits because of our choice in parenting, here on FDL, well, it’d be good to hear a “Thank you for raising a son who can save the neighbors property knowing there’s a potential shooter. Keep his cool when he turns around after the fire’s under control and a fucking SWAT guy has a rifle aimed at him. He says,” What’s up?’.
They want to know where he would hide if he were running.
He says,”Did you check the green house over there? That’s a good place.”.
The Man-in Charge says,” Well, no, I haven’t done that personally.”
He says, ” If it was me I’d go up on the mountain.”.
They say they’ll start there in the morning.
5 minutes later 3 guys with rifles surround the green house.
Security is one fucked up illusion.
…as defined and prosecuted by those in power.
Accountability is only for the losers.
When winners commit war crimes, it’s called “victory.”
Its not a fantasy, but I understand your position. I apologize
I am confused. There was a fire started by a crazy person?
It is very difficult to watch.
*heh* Exactly…! Mahalo…! I was about to tackle that part of ww’s great comment next…! ;-)
Aloha, ES…!
Per http://www.roberthjackson.org/the-man/speeches-articles/speeches/speeches-related-to-robert-h-jackson/the-evolution-of-global-justice/
Unless we hold Obama and Bush to the same standards that we did Yamashita and Goering, the accusation that Nuremberg was yet another case of “victors’ justice” is irrefutable.
*aah* The heart of the Rust Belt, eh…? Btw, whom do you root for…? Buffalo or Cleveland, or even Pittsburgh…? ;-)
(00) holy crap, hope to see your update here wow hope you are ok.
If someone in the chain of command doesn’t put a leach on the troop they may turn on anyone. We have streets full of vets with more on the way. 1/4 of the homeless that is an equation for trouble. Lot of suicide and troubled people with little help.
And see if you can find it on the front page of Google News. I’ve checked the US, UK, Ireland, India and Pakistan – all have nothing.
The US has told now AFP that the video is old news.
As history is written by the victors, so is justice…!
“Our interpretation is your new reality.”
- unnamed guy in the uniform and shades
I’d say it’s already clear we haven’t and won’t.
And now that I think about it, isn’t the phrase “victors’ justice” redundant? “Justice” is simply the enforcement of the rules of the powerful, by the powerful.
It’s “justice” in the same sense that the Pentagon’s primary activity is “defense.”
Yes, 3 hours after he dosed the men trying to collect on money owed for work done. He threw 5 gallons of gas on them and tried to light them with a Bic, but it wouldn’t work. So he ran into his house and got his 45 pistol while they were running for their truck. He stared shooting and one of the guys laid down in the truck. He reached in , pointed at his head and pulled the trigger. He was out of bullets. He ran back for more ammo and they got the hell out of there and into sanctuary at the Fire Hall. When the police responded he shot at them.
We had a grapevine of phone calls tracing him in the community. “He’s headed for North Beach”, “He’s going towards the mountain.”. That’s where his victim lived and he torched their property.While they were sitting in the Fire Hall with cops and Fire Fighters. Who would not respond with a shooter out there.
Fuck, they had 2 big tank like vehicles, 30 deputies including SWAT…my son passed 5 cop cars at the bottem of the hill when he went up to put out the fire. Not one of them cruised past. Until it was over and the SWAT guys showed up to point a gun at him while he was working on the fire.
Al Jazeera is on it…! ;-)
I watched Both Olbermann and Rachel tonight and neither of them covered this story. Rachel covered the horrible night raid in Afghanistan, but Keith did not. (Unless I missed something when I fast forwarded.)
As far as which sport? Uhm I love Hockey and am a Pittsbg Penguin fan since 199ies everything else I dont really care. How about you, sir, or ma’am
Maybe all justice boils down to “Good is when I steal from you, and Evil is when you steal from me.” But I’d like to think that there is more to it than that.
The Pens, home of perhaps the most stand-up player ever.
Nice history you have there.
Thank God the Bic didn’t work and he ran out of ammo…!!! *g*
Sir… I’m a polyglot fan…! I’m a Edmonton Oiler fanatic, A Cardiac Sox Diehard, and a rabid Bronco, living in the Isles…! ;-)
I can’t watch the whole thing either. It’s like watching America in a crime that’s too great to imagine.
Rachel said like playing a video game with people really dying.
I’m okay. The huge bummer is the victim was having money problems and they’re insurance lapsed.
The oldest son is a friend of my son. He saw the gas thrown. He saw the gun pointed at his Dad and the trigger pulled. He was helpless to fight the fire. He is handling it so incredibly well, under the circumstances.
The fucking right wing Fundamentalist Christian, Woman Hating, dangerous man is in custody and going away for a long time.
The hard part is knowing that what he did is going to impact this family for a long time,too.
Thanks, ES. Night.
Whoa. Slow down. Start to finish, what happened?
To be brutally analytical, the stupid fucker had a gas/oil mix in the can he threw. You can’t light that with a Bic.
Praise the Lord. /s/
175 comments what a lively blog for ES tonight…Good night folks. Have a nice lifetime.
wow, i can’t come up with words to ameliorate your suffering, hope everything turns out ok
nite BB
For those Apache Pilots that’s exactly what it’s like…! 8-(
We ground-pounders know otherwise and have to deal with the consequences face-to-face…! Did ya notice that the grunts tried to evacuate the children immediately…?
This idea of holding Obama and Bush on the same field really worries me. Bush/Cheney etc. created this nightmare. Obama isn’t anywhere near in their league.
Obama has lots of considerations, nationally and internationally. If you think Obama is an evil man, as is Cheney, let’s hear it.
Start to finish: Attempted homicide.
Evading arrest
high speed chase through the community
30 cops with cool equipment show up
cops lose suspect in high speed chase but community keeps tracking through the Grapevine
Suspect torches victim’s property
Fire crew does not respond
Openhope’s son and another man respond and put out the fire
We house the victims overnight with big dogs and more guns than I’m comfortable with.
Asshole gives up at 6 the next morning.
Ugh, Maddow. She’s best described as a perineum.
I’d say there is more to it than that.
“Good” and “evil” are both simply limitations of one’s ability to see – and in the end, illusions.
There is only what happens, and one’s willingness to feel it.
Everything serves.
:-)
I think you might be a whore, though there is nothing wrong with that…I loved wayne Gretsky, and yes I think sid crosby, is a stand up guy, if thats who you meant?
If you mean me, by stand-up I was referring to Mario.
Oh, forgot the best part. The media reports that not 2 but 4 people were dosed with gas. As does the Sheriff’s department. The Fire Department is pointedly mentioned as controlling the fire. In every story.
Unfortunately, the Grapevine’s robust again. ” Did you hear the sirens? No, me either.”
After the panic comes the fun part of piecing the story together.
A whore…? ;-) I was born in Edmonton and lived in Boston and Denver, at various times in my life…! Pre-Elway Denver and I’ve been to Fenway a few times…! ;-)
I’ve seen a lot of places around the world, too…! ;-)
Wow, you just called CTuttle a whore. Are those fighting words?
That’s who I thought you were referring to Newt…! ;-) I’m rather partial to Sydney myself tho…! Go Canada…! *g*
Lordy. Strong son you have, openhope.
Time to put down the beers and go for the coffee pot, dude.
hope you didnt take offense to that, I am Sorry if you did, seriously sorry, I don’t want to make enemies as a virgin fdler. If it helps I’ve been drinking too much and am lacking sleep :|
Yeah, and handsome, too. Says his mother. :>
I will take pride in that he’s a good person to have your back.
I don’t know how to compare evil people. I just know that when a commander-in-chief deploys troops and commanders that have a reputation for brutality against civilians and prisoners and keeps them in place when evidence to support that reputation arrives, either that commander-in-chief removes those troops and commanders or he/she is guilty under the doctrine of “command responsibility,” just like General Yamashita, whom we hanged.
lol Have yet to go to bed, which I am now henceforth going
Seconded.
I sometimes wonder…
I took no offense to it…! ;-)
Sweet dreams, all.
oh no, yes mario . I think I have messed up replies, sorry newt. See me at 200
Sports-whore is a common term, although in the written context above, treads a little heavier than it’s intended meaning.
I, on the other hand, am a Sports-slut.
Aloha, Sleep tight…!
Well, just as a counterbalance, remember that this is the same commander in chief negotiating treaties to rid the world of nuclear weapons. If this commander in chief is not re-elected, and a republican-any republican-is put in his place, that will not happen.
It is not easy, it isn’t what we would want, but oftentimes it is what is politically possible.
Imagine if McCain/Palin had been elected for just a moment.
There is nothing perfect possible, only what is really possible.
Aloha, M’dear…!
We’d already been ‘bomb,bomb,Iran’ by now…! 8-(
An admitted slut! Newt!
One could argue that Bush was mostly a sociopathic simpleton, and thus to a degree ignorant of the effects of his murderous policies.
Obama, however, is clearly cognizant of the policies and their effects – and chooses to continue and escalate them.
Of the two sociopaths, I’d say that makes Obama far worse.
That kind of argument is a false dichotomy.
One might just as well justify Obama’s policies by saying “Imagine if Hitler/Sharon had been elected for just a moment.”
Is it better to use hanging or lethal injection to execute an innocent man?
Been called a band whore, ’cause i’ve been with so many. On that note I bid adieu. much love to you all!
nite kenergenx
You knew that!
i am outa here you guys. nite all
EV, it’s not a false dichotomy in that the electorate attempted to halt the prior regime’s malfeasance, what’s wrong is that both party Apparatchik’s are knee deep in this extrajudicial quagmire…! 8-(
Aloha, newt…!
That is not an argument I make. He had Addington right there to help him persue murderous policies for Bush and Cheney.
Name anyone on Obama’s team who’s doing anything next door to what Addington has done.
It is a false dichotomy when it’s used as it was to rationalize the current state of affairs.
(I don’t know, it might not be in Canada ;-) ).
It’s precisely because there aren’t even two parties – only two shifts working at the same slaughterhouse – that such “but don’t criticize this one, think how much better he is than the other one!” self-delusion is so injurious to the entire country.
Umm, that would be…Obama.
He’s actively continuing and expanding Bush’s policies, both domestically and in our wars around the world.
This is not even a close call.
And that people continue to be in denial about it, just as people were in denial about Bush, is what allows the rapes, torture, murders and illegal wars to continue.
Something similar to what Nader has been saying for some time now…! ;-)
Admittedly, he hasn’t cracked down on the surveillance. But he is winding down the war in Iraq as was negotiated. Not his war, but wants to save face for the US…and hold out hope for American companies to do business there, rather than have us blackballed.
Afghanistan is Obama’s war to be sure, and it’s been screwed up from top to bottom. No clue what he should do there, other than to just get out.
*Ding* We have a winner…! ;-)
Well, just hurry up and get out of Iraq too.
While I’m waiting for the cat to come in…
Here are the headlines from major establishment media outlets about the WikiLeaks video. See if you, were you a casual reader, would have any idea what happened, who the guilty parties are and why the whole thing is so important.
Google News: nothing
Yahoo News: nothing
AP: “AP Top News”
CNN: “Video shows deaths of two Reuters journalists in Iraq in 2007″
WaPo: “Web site releases video of Baghdad attack that killed 2 journalists”
NYT: “Video Shows American Killing of Photographer”
MSNBC: “U.S. pilot seen firing on people in Iraq”
CBS: “Disturbing Iraq Video Leaks”
FOX: nothing on the front page
(though FOX also had the most accurate, if doubting, headline on the story buried inside)
FOX (inside): “Video Appears to Show U.S. Forces Firing on Unarmed Suspects in Baghdad”
.
For contrast, here a headline (albeit a buried one) from some other “coalition” outlets:
Times of London: “Leaked video footage shows Iraq journalists killed by US gunships”
.
Manufacturing Consent, indeed.
(Cat’s in, so goodnight.)
Night, EV.
This painful fact disproves the oft-heard contention that Obama has turned out to be a “centrist,” or even a “right-center” President. It’s time to get real.
If Obama had succeeded Dwight Eishenhower and continued most of Ike’s policies, Obama could fairly be called a centrist President.
But Obama’s predecessor was not Dwight D. Eishenhower. His predecessor was the most right-wing, neocon President ever. By any logic, this makes Obama a neocon. I think we should call him Chicago Blue Dog No. 1:
